SBI PO 2017: Time Management Tips & Strategy by Toppers

sbi-po-2017-time-management-tips-strategy-by-toppers

SBI has changed its pattern of exam for the Mains, the pattern remains the same in preliminary exams. You can allot different amount of time for each section as per your convenience.

The time allocation given for each section in this article is after researching at our end by interviewing various toppers of SBI PO. Below are the time management tips for SBI Prelims (online):

  • Reasoning: 20 Minutes
  • English: 10 Minutes
  • Quantitative Aptitude: 28 Minutes
  • 2 Minutes to review

Your own style of time allocation depends on the areas where you perform better. If you are strong in Math, chances are bright for you to quickly finish answering the questions in that particular section. So, you may end up spending less time in the Quant section. Thus, allowing you more time in the sections which may be a challenge for you.

If you already have a strategy in place, you may just stick on to that.  However, you may use this time allocation strategy as a guideline. Mock tests, online SBI Bank PO papers help to improve speed. Self-assessment helps to improve your ability to clear the sections in stipulated time. Always, save sometime for mock tests on a regular basis. You are best person to prepare a time management strategy to overcome your weaknesses.

SBI PO Mains Exam consists of the below sections along with a descriptive section too:

  • Start with something that is easier for you. English Language followed by reasoning & computer knowledge should be good to go. Test of English language has been allotted 40 Minutes of duration for 35 questions. As per the toppers guidance, this section can be finished in 30-35 Minutes.
  • General/Economy/Banking Awareness needs to be allocated 35-40 Minutes.
  • Reasoning and Computer Knowledge is allocated 60 Minutes. Allot more time for Reasoning than for Computer Knowledge. The time you saved in English language could be used here in this Reasoning section. Ideally, this section can be wrapped up in 60-65 Minutes.
  • If you are thorough with reasoning as well, then it is a time saver. You could use the saved time in Data Analysis & Interpretation. If you take a look at the pattern, duration for this section is 45 Minutes for 35 questions which means there are chances that the questions can be tricky, so prepare for the worst.

The time management duration mentioned here is purely based on the data of the candidates who perform well. Just in case, you are not performing well in any of the sections, you must focus on those areas while preparing next time. All the Best.

Success story SBI PO 2016-17: Selected Candidate

SBI PO Success Story 2016-17 Qualified Candidate

The competitive exams are round the corner, and the aspirants might have started their preparations by now. We get to read so many tips and tricks for preparation. This article intends to put forth a success story of a young and dynamic graduate who was kind of a rolling stone until he decided to prepare for SBI PO exam.

Rasheed Habib, a qualified B.Tech (EEE) who passed out in 2013 got a job in some private organization. He was not satisfied with his job and so left it in 2014 to start his preparation for Government jobs. He knew it was not easy, there must be some guidance. He was in dilemma whether to go ahead with GATE or Banking exam preparation. He has taken his friend’s suggestion in trying his luck in the Banking exams.

He gave an attempt in IBPS clerk 2014 which did not yield good results, failed miserably even in GATE. He finally decided to seriously prepare for the Banking exams by supporting himself with some additional guidance to make a successful attempt for SBI PO exam.

His preparation turned out fruitful and he passed out with excellence. Here are his marks in SBI PO:

  • Reasoning - 27.5 (cutoff-6),
  • DI - 15.5 (cutoff-6),
  • GA - 27.75(cutoff-10),
  • English - 18.5(cutoff-4),
  • Descriptive - 27 (cutoff-17.5)
  • Interview- 39 (cutoff-18)

TOTAL - 54 (cutoff - 44.43, OBC)

There is always something called dedication without which one cannot achieve success at this rate. His attempt in SBI PO Mains was a failure, tried his luck in many other competitive examinations and primarily PO exams. His principle was “If you are not succeeding in spite of full effort, then don’t change the aim, just change the way”. When he failed miserably in IBPS Mains, he thought he should go back to some private job as he failed interview by cut off 1.5 Marks (OBC). He got amazing support from his family who encouraged him to give another attempt. He analyzed his marks as well as his weaknesses. He was lagging in General Awareness. He has not particularly taken any coaching until then. He somehow found capsules (app) online that has enabled him to make his preparations further and better. That way he successfully cleared the SBI PO Mains and interview.
