Strategy and Study plan : RBI Grade B Phase 1 Exam

Here we are giving detailed preparation tips and strategy for each section separately.

Reasoning: This section is of high difficulty level. You will get 60 questions of 60 marks. The trick is to approach these kind of questions with an open and clear mind. Attempting reasoning questions at first always works good as your mind will not be cluttered.

Priority Areas of Logical Reasoning:

Following topics are important, because usually atleast 4 questions come from each of these.

  • 1.Blood relations

  • 2.Sitting Arrangement

  • 3.Coding and decoding

  • 4.Input output

  • 5.Inequality (x>y and y<z)

  • 6.Data sufficiency

  • 7.Number series- find the next number

  • 8.Assumption and inferences

  • 9.Syllogism

Solve each type of question. This will give you enough confidence to attempt every section.

Quantitative Aptitude: In this section there are 30 questions of 30 marks. The questions are usually of moderate difficulty level. The questions are direct (in most cases) but would require sufficient practise and focused mind.

Read the questions carefully before attempting. Often in hurry we get down to solving questions with just half reading the question only to figure out later that there might have been a shorter way of solving or may be a totally different question is asked.

Practice trigonometry, Geometry and algebra questions as these topics are not common for other banking exams.

Priority areas in Quantitative aptitude (QA)

  • 1.Operation on brackets

  • 2.Linear equations

  • 3.Average + alligiation

  • 4.Ratios

  • 5.Profit, Loss, %, SI and CI : all can be solved if you’ve clear concept of % calculation.

  • 6.Arithmetic and Geography progression.

  • 7.TSDW (Time speed distance and Work)

  • 8.Permutation, Combination, Probability

General Awareness: There will be 80 questions of 80 marks in this section. The main focus of this section will be on Economy related questions. You can expect nearly 75-80% questions focused on the economy. The remaining will be from current affairs and GK.

A major share of questions will come from Economic survey, Union Budget of the current year, RBI policies, any major economic policies launched by the government etc. Also familiarise with Goods and Services Tax in India.

You should know the basic economic terms and their implications. It would always help to know the trade relations between India and other important nations or organizations, recent international pacts, Major financial organizations, RBI dealing with other nations, RBI control over Indian economy, banking system, financial / money market dealings and operations how RBI handles and controls these etc.

English Language test: This would be comparatively simpler section if you have a good hold over the language and the grammar. This section has 30 questions of 30 marks.

Expect questions from vocabulary, antonym synonyms fill in the blanks correct the wrong part of the sentence, comprehensions, word substitution etc. For English you need to read as much as you can. It is recommended to keep an oxford dictionary in hand while reading.

Improve your reading speed and understanding what you are reading. You can refer news papers, editorials, magazines etc. Brush up your grammar from school grammar books.

Priority areas in English

  • 1.Vocabulary

  • 2.Grammar

  • 3.Sentence correction

  • 4.Reading Comprehension

General tips:

  • (a)Take Practice Mock test papers.
  • (b)Take at least 4-5 practice papers daily. You can score high in Reasoning and Quant section with daily practice.
  • (c)While practising mock tests, keep an eye on time as time management and selection of questions will definitely fetch you good score.
  • (d)Concentrate on speed and accuracy. If you solve less questions but with accurate result then it is better than solving more questions inaccurately. Also, you should attempt sufficient questions to clear the cut offs.
  • (e)Be self confident and maintain a healthy schedule.

Wishing you All the Best !!

IBPS PO 2016: Tips for efficient time management

Time and tide waits for none”. Managing time is a crucial part of any examination. It can decide your factor of success or can also prove to be the reason of your failure. It depends on how wisely and judiciously you use it. Time management is one of the frequently faced challenges in any examination and it has to be taken care of wisely when it comes to IBPS PO Mains 2016 examination.

The IBPS PO Mains paper has five sections (total of 200 marks):

  • Quantitative Aptitude

  • Reasoning Ability

  • Computer Awareness

  • General Awareness (with special reference to banking industry)

The total time alloted is 140 minutes. Please note that you have score the sectional cut off individually to pass the examination. You need to manage time very well because proper time management will help you attempt all the four sections. Divide the total time into four time slots i.e. Try to save time in the English and general awareness section and devote this saved time to Quant and Reasoning sections as they are time consuming.

Ideal time allocation (Section wise): The following table gives you the ideal amount of time which should be spent on every section in order to accomplish “Proper time management”.

Subject

Time Allotted (in mins)

Quantitative Aptitude

40

Reasoning Ability

Quick tips for efficient “time management”:

  • Give importance to each and every section: This should be kept in mind that every section is equally important. Never skip any of these sections and try to secure the cut- offs of each section.

  • Speed up your calculations: Try to speed up your calculation speed as it can save a lot of your time. Use tricks for speeding up the calculations.

  • Avoid sticking to questions: Make sure that you spend not more than a minute on each question. Do not stick to a particular question and waste your time on it. Rather than wasting your time, you can go forward and solve the questions you are comfortable with.

  • Get comfortable with online platform: Try to get handy with the online platform. It will make your hands faster and enable you to finish off your written test within the time limit.
