Tips to crack “Reasoning Section” of IBPS PO Prelims

  • Focus on the important ones- Try to focus on the topics which are important and give less importance on the topics which are not important. Some of the important topics of this section are:
  • Alphanumeric series
  • Substitution coding
  • Syllogism
  • Sitting/Seating arrangement
  • Inequalities
  • Ranking
  • Blood relation
  • Puzzle

  • Follow a topic wise break up:

The following break up of questions will help you in efficient time management:

  • Time Allocation is crucial: If you are good enough in your reasoning skills, you should attempt it after attempting English section (or Quant as per your convenience). We would suggest to attempt English first followed by Reasoning because this approach will keep you in the right track of time management. 20- 25 minutes can be an ideal allocation to this section which implies approximately 35 seconds per question. Try to figure out the questions which are less time taking and attempt them first and attempt the time taking ones at last. On the contrary, if you are among those people who are not that good at reasoning skills, we would suggest you to go for this section at last and ideally allocating 15 mins.

  • Solve time consuming questions at last: The questions from the topics given below are the most time consuming ones. Try to attempt these questions at last:

  • Seating Arrangement
  • Complex Puzzle
  • Floor Puzzle
  • Input Output Machine

  • Solve sample papers: Solve different standard sample papers and mock test which will give you an idea of the pattern of questions asked. Moreover, you will get to practice and this will increase your pace and accuracy.

  • Confidence is your greatest weapon: Be confident about yourself and believe that you can do it. It is you and only you who can fulfil your ambitions. Remember, Take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway!

Stay tuned for more updates. We anticipate your preparation to be up to the mark. All the very best!

Top 6 Time Management Tips for IBPS PO 2016

“Good time management is a good motivator, from my perspective”- Charles Smith

IBPS PO 2016 exam time management tips

In the exam hall, I was all set to start with the paper. The examination was of 1 hour and the first thing which came to my mind was “One hour is more than enough. I can complete the entire paper”. I started with the questions which seemed tough and lengthy. As the questions were really tough, I was stuck at many points and ended up wasting a lot of time gazing at the diagrams of the questions, randomly guessing the solutions and scratching the head of my pencil on the forehead. The remainder from the teacher which was “Last 10 mins” was like a last minute monster. I was very confused of what to attempt and what not. I still recall the experience as one of the “worst time management” experiences.

  • Time allocation matters! : If you are good at solving aptitude section, you may attend this section after attending quant section and then solve this section within 20 minutes. But, we sincerely advise those who are weak in aptitude to attend this section at the end and should dedicate 25 minutes of total time for this. This section will prove to be a “scoring area” which will help you with the overall cut- off marks.

  • Easy ones are the first: Always start with the questions from the following sections as they are relatively easy and are less time taking:
  • Data Insufficiency
  • Simplification
  • Arithmetic: Questions on Percentage, Profit and Loss, Ratio and Proportions, S.I. / C.I., Averages, Ages etc.

  • Probability
  • Quadratic Equations
  • Arithmetic Topics : Mixture and allegations , Time Speed, Time and Work and Distance
  • Another DI Set
  • Number Series

  • Questions are cunning! : Students in most of the examinations make a common mistake while solving the questions of numerical ability. In hurry, they don’t read the complete question which actually tricky. As a result of this, they end up making mistakes which were extremely avoidable. So, we advise all the aspiring candidates to go through the questions carefully before solving them.

  • Risky shortcuts can be threats! : Avoid risky shortcuts (the tricks which you are not sure about) as they will make you come up with an incorrect answer and you will end up hampering your performance.

  • Avoid making random guess: Do not make random guesses unless and until you are 100 percent sure about it. It will adversely affect your total score. So, be careful about this.

  • Work hard on weak areas: Make a note of the areas in which you are weak and practice those sections rigorously. This practice will make you confident with these sections and you will able to make an approach to solve the questions from this section with ease.

  • Believe in your potential: Self-confidence is the biggest asset which will help you make the most of your calibre. So, believe in yourself that you can definitely do the best and see the magic work!

Try to answer only those questions which you are sure about and skip the questions which you are not sure about.
  • Check out the ‘English Language’ section of the previous year’s IBPS PO Prelims papers. It will give you an idea of the questions asked.
