Education Qualification

A candidate must be a Graduate from any discipline from a recognized college/university or equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government. The candidate must have English as language in SSC/HSC/Intermediate and Graduate level. The candidate must have proof in certificate of passing the qualifying exam.

• Minimum age should be 20
• Maximum age should be 30.

It means that if a person is running at a speed of 20km/h and he runs for 2 hours , he will be covering a total distance of 40 km.

Distance = 20 * 2 = 40 km

• Distance: When an object is moving with a certain speed in a particular time, the displacement made by an object called the distance.

Unit of Distance : Generally, Kilometer (Km) and meter (m)

• Time: Time is a quantity which governs the order or sequence of an occurrence. In the absence of time, the actual sequence of any occurrence or incident would be lost.

Unit of Time: Hour and Second are mostly taken as the unit of time.

• Speed: Speed is defined as the distance covered per unit time. In other words, it is the rate at which distance is covered.

Unit of Speed: Km/hour and Meter/second

Important Formulas for Time, Speed and Distance

• Speed, Time and Distance:

Speed = Distance/Time , Time = Distance/Speed, Distance = Speed * Time2

• km/hr to m/sec conversion:

x km/hr = x * 5/18 m/sec

• m/sec to km/hr conversion:

x m/sec = x * 18/5 km/hr

• If the ratio of the speeds of A and B is a: b, then the ratio of the the times taken by then to cover the same distance is 1/a:1/b or b:a
• Suppose a man covers a certain distance at x km/hr and an equal distance at y km/hr, then average the average speed during the whole journey is (2xy/x+y)km/hr

Relation between time, distance and speed when one of them is kept constant

• 1. Speed is constant distance covered by the object is directly proportional to the time taken.
  2. Time is constant speed is directly proportional to the distance traveled.
  3. Distance is constant speed is inversely proportional to the time taken.

Tips to Solve Speed, Time and Distance Problems:

Practice is the most important steps to solve time, speed and distance problems. Apart from practice, you also need to know basic concepts and short cut tricks.

Example with Solution:

Question : How many minutes Raman will take to cover a distance of 400 meters if he runs at a speed of 20 km/hr?

Answer & Explanation :
⇒ Raman’s speed = 20 km/hr = 20 × 5/18 = 50/9 m/sec
⇒ 400 × 9/50 = 1⅕ mins

Question: In a 100 m race A runs at a speed of 1.66 m/s. If A gives a start of 4m to B and still beats him by 12 seconds. What is the speed of B ?

Answer & Explanation :

Time taken by A to cover 100 meters = 60 seconds
⇒ Since A gives a start of 4 seconds then time takes by B = 72 seconds
⇒ B takes 72 seconds to cover 96 meters
⇒ Speed of B = 96/72 = 1.33 m/s

The Main exam also consists of an English Language Descriptive Writing Test.

• Questions : 1 on essay writing & 1 on letter writing ( Total : 2 )
• Maximum Marks : 25
• Time Allotted : 30 minutes

Descriptive Paper is just qualifying in nature; You don’t have to deal with the stress of maximising your scores.

In IBPS PO Descriptive Paper 2017, a letter can be asked in the form of Personal or Business letter. Remember, that a letter addressed to an official is a Business letter whereas the one addressed to your friends/family is a Personal letter. Firstly familiarize yourself with the formats of both Business and Personal letter.

Important parts that need to be included in both the types of the letter

The most important thing while writing a letter is the format. There are few things you must include in the body format of the letter. These are to be followed in order (top to bottom):

1. Date: include the date and day of writing the letter.
2. Sender’s Address: Here you must include sender’s address and email.
3. Inside Address: Here you must include the address of the reader, to whom you are sending the letter.
4. Salutation: You must include the colon at the end of salutation. References like “Dear Sir/Madam”, “Dear Mother, or simply “Sir” etc.
5. Body text: Here state the reason for writing, mention the solution, opinions, we need to add about 2-3 paragraphs of the body.

• In the first paragraph of the formal letter, you must introduce yourself and state the reason for writing the letter.
• You don’t need to introduce yourself in an informal letter. Just stating the reason for writing the letter would suffice.
• Contains an introductory paragraph, ‘body’ explaining the subject in detail and a concluding paragraph.
• Convey information in a right way. Write that is the most crucial part of the letter which is also be considered as the central message of the letter.
• There are certain rules you should know about the complimentary closing of formal letters. If you know the name of the addressee and begin the letter with “Dear Mr. Abc”, etc. then stick to signing off with ‘yours sincerely/truly’. If you don’t know the name to whom you are writing and are addressing the recipient as “Dear Sir”, “Dear Sir/Madam”, etc. then close the letter with ‘yours faithfully’.
• But we advised the safest and the best practice to write ABC or XYZ instead of mentioning your name in the letter.

Always write essay in following manner-

• Introduction: It should include the Background and the history of the Subject.
• About: It should include the details, concept, and theory of the Subject.
• Positives: Here you must state the advantages of the subject which should include various benefits caused to the different sections of the society, Indian economy, women, and country overall. At last, state what impact it has worldwide (if any).
• Negatives: This should be covered carefully and include any harm it has caused / will cause to the people, economy of the country.
• Suggestions: Here you must mention any improvement in the subject for the better. The suggestion should be good and must reflect positive changes in the future.
• Conclusion: Here you are required to summarize all the points you have mentioned above.
