How to prepare effectively for IBPS 2016 Exam?

  1. Subject-wise preparation

Most of the subjects in IBPS need either practice or reading, and hence, your biggest asset is your time.

For English comprehension and grammar, practice as many papers as you can. There is nothing to route-learn here. For vocabulary, refer to the notes of a coaching institute or a teacher or the online IBPS preparation websites, and try using those words in your daily life. Mugging up is quite a waste of time for this subject.

General Knowledge:

Make newspapers your best friend; but do not try to learn the entire news by heart. Brush through the daily happenings and keep abreast with the world around you. This would cover the current affairs for you. However, for other general knowledge questions; books for the specific subject would be your best bet.

Mathematics/Quantitative Aptitude:

Considering this is an elementary level Math, brush up your concepts and practice. Practical subjects require maximum practice.

Logical reasoning:

Both these subjects require you to apply your mind in various situations. Practicing your study material and previous years’ IBPS questions will give you a good grasp over this subject. However, during the exam, it is important to apply your own mind and keep yourself relaxed.

  1. Are your notes and study materials in place?

Since the course of IBPS is quite vast, it is necessary to have your reference notes in place. Smart work is the key so do not try to learn everything under the sun, but instead concentrate on the study material and notes provided by the experts of the industry.

Online IBPS preparatory mock test series and sample papers are surely worth a try.

  1. Do your own SWOT analysis?

One of the most common and frequently asked questions includes asking previous years students on how to study for IBPS. There isn’t any specific methodo study. You have to identify your strengths and weaknesses, and work around them. For instance, you might have a brilliant grasp over English grammar but your vocabulary perhaps needs some work. Or, you might be a Math whiz, but your general knowledge might need some brush up.

Needless to say, your weak subjects would need more time. We would advise studying a relatively easy subject and a difficult one, alternatively. This way you would be able to cover up your weaknesses, and at the same time, give time to your strengths as well.

Every student has his/her own way of studying; and the concentration span may also vary from person to person. Some students can study for 8 hours at a stretch, while some might need breaks after every 45 minutes. Figure out your concentration span, and follow it. Taking a break, and set up a reward system for completing the task at hand, to judge your performance. This can be quite a positive motivation that you might need. Do not beat yourself by comparing with others. Set your own regime and stick to it.

  1. Set a timetable and put a reward system in place

A wise man once said that failing to plan is planning to fail. You know the deadline and you know the course. Set a timetable on a daily, or even better; hourly basis, and stick to it. The key here is to keep it realistic.

Again, identifying your strengths and weaknesses will help you devise your timetable suitably. If your attention span is of 1 hour, set your timelines 1 hour at a time, and give yourself feasible breaks. If you study one subject at once, set your goals according to the same scenario.

One way of ensuring that you stick to your deadlines, is by removing distractions while studying, but framing a suitable reward system for analyzing your own performance. It’s much like dieting – the reason so many people fail to maintain their diets, is because they remove all temptations at once. It’s great for a few days, but old habits die hard. What’s your sin? Whether it is watching television or playing games, do not cut off completely. Reward yourself with it when you finish your goal, but make sure that you reward yourself honestly. We have worked under negative motivators and fear of failure or punishment, for so long, that we have forgotten the power of a positive motivator. Use it!

  1. Test yourself

Giving mock tests and practicing last years’ IBPS question papers without referring to your course material can be a good check as well as a revision. Occasionally, and especially after you complete your course once, test yourself through these papers. Such mock exams can be found at online IBPS preparation websites.

However, make sure that you do not get de-motivated if you don’t score as much as you expected. They are called practice papers for a reason. Giving yourself random checks will help you identify which areas you need to work upon and where your expertise wins.

Once you have set your goals clearly, plan well and go for it. Remember, you are a human being and not a robot. You are bound to make mistakes. The key is to keep calm and understand that things might not always go according to plan. It is important to adapt, adjust and accommodate. Happy studying and all the best!
