The SSC CGL 2016 Tier I examination is round the corner with hundreds of hopes and aspirations associated with it. The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts examinations on an annual basis to fill its vacancies throughout all its organizations across the country. The SSC CGL 2016 Tier I exam was initially scheduled in the month of May 2016 but later it got postponed to August 2016. After taking a look at the pattern of the examination, let us take a look at some of the useful preparation tips (section wise tips):


 

General intelligence and reasoning:

  • This section is one of the most scoring sections in the entire paper. So, try to practice vigorously questions from the frequently asked topics of this section.

  • It has been generally observed that this section takes less time than that of the quant section in SSC exams. So, go through different references and practice questions as this section can turn out to be the “Scoring shot” in the entire paper.

  • Go through different reference links and go through different links to find out different tricks associated with solving reasoning questions. Those questions will help you solve the section within a short span of time and save a lot of your time.

  • Important topics: Semantic Analogy, Symbolic/Number Analogy, Semantic Classification, Venn Diagrams, Symbolic/Number Classification, Semantic Series, Figural Pattern – folding and completion, Mirror Image, Water Images, Number Series, Coding and de-coding, Problem Solving.


 

English Comprehensive:

  • This section focuses on testing the language skills of the candidates.

  • Focus on topics like errors, misspelt words, one word substitution, reading comprehension and close test as these are the sections from which maximum questions are asked.

  • Practice synonyms and antonyms as well but try to spend minimum time on them as there will be a few questions asked from this topic.

  • Candidates have a misconception that this is a difficult and less scoring section. But this is actually a very interesting and scoring section.

  • A candidate can easily score well in this part by mere focusing on five to six sections.

  • Important topics: Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Spellings/ Detecting, Misspelt words, Idioms & Phrases, One word substitution, Cloze Passage, Comprehension Passage, Active Passive Voice.


 

Quantitative Aptitude:

  • This is the trickiest yet on of the scoring sections of the paper.

  • Go through all the important topics of this section and practice questions from some standard papers and previous year papers as well.

  • Candidates are requested to save some times from Reasoning and English sections and devote the extra section here so that you will have more time to solve the questions from this section.

  • Candidates are advised to not solve time taking questions. Please attempt the questions which you are sure and do not stick to the questions which you are not sure about as this habit will waste your time.

  • Important topics: Decimal and Fractions, Relationship between numbers, Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest (Simple and Compound), Profit and Loss, Time and distance, Time and work, Use of Tables and Graphs: Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar-diagram, Pie-chart, Trigonometry, Geometry.


 

General Awareness:

  • This is a region of utmost uncertainty regarding expected questions as the syllabus is extremely vast.

  • Go through newspapers and recent articles on a daily basis which will help you stay updated with all the latest events and happenings.

  • Candidates are advised to attempt only those questions they are sure about. Do not attempt questions which you are not sure about as negative marks will have an adverse effect on your score.


 

Given below are some quick preparation tips for the SSC CGL Tier 1 examination:

  • Prepare a section wise study plan and follow it. Take one topic at one time & practice more questions on that topic to make it your strength in exam.

  • Revise questions from the important topics asked from each section. While revision, play pay extra attention to the topics you are weak at.

  • Make strategy according to your preparation in the examination hall. Manage time wisely and ace the examination

  • Before filling your options on OMR sheets, take a final look on questions & recheck your answers periodically.
