Sure Shot Tips and Tricks to Crack RRB NTPC 2nd Stage 2016 exam

The RRB (Railway Recruitment Board) will hold a 2nd stage Computer Based Test (CBT) Mains examination i.e. RRB NTPC 2nd Stage Mains. Candidates equal to 15 times of the available vacancies will be invited for the RRB NTPC 2nd stage CBT. The invitation of the candidates will be based on the merit position in the CBT held during 28th March 2016 to 3rd May 2016 (1st stage CBT).

The criteria of final selection will be merely based on the merit position obtained in the RRB NTPC 2nd stage ‘Computer Based Test (CBT)’ and/ or results of Aptitude test/ Typing Skill Test. The normalization of marks will be based on the extant rules in 1st and 2nd stage ‘Computer Based Test (CBT)’.

RRB NTPC 2nd stage 2016: Section- wise syllabus and tips to crack RRB NTPC 2nd Stage

The RRB NTPC 2nd Stage examination will comprise of three sections: General Awareness, Arithmetic and General Intelligence and Reasoning. It is vital for us to go through the section- wise syllabus and tips to score the cut- off in individual sections:

General Intelligence and Reasoning:

  • This section is meant to test a candidate’s ‘Logical and mental aptitude’ skills.
  • It can be a perfect scoring section when you practice enough enormous questions from various sources.
  • This section will consist of 2 questions on puzzles (minimum)
  • It will also consist of questions on direction sense, syllogisms, coding decoding and inequalities along with questions from other sections.
  • Make a plan in which dedicate a few hours to every important topic of this section.
  • Use shortcut tricks to solve questions from these section. This approach will make you solve the questions faster.
  • Important topics from this section:
  1. Related word/letters/numbers
  2. Series with one term missing
  3. Blood Relations
  4. Distance/Direction Sense
  5. Coding and decoding
  6. Odd number/letters/figures/number pair
  7. Trends & Operations – Missing number

Numerical Ability/ Arithmetic Ability:

  • This section is meant to test a candidate’s ‘numerical/ mathematical’ skills.
  • It is most time consuming section of all. But, you can perform well by practising questions from different sources and text books. Practice can make you score well in this section.
  • This section will consist of 2 questions on DI (Data Interpretation) and rest of the questions from ‘Arithmetic’
  • Frame a plan in which dedicate a few hours to every important topic of this section.
  • Follow the approach of ‘easy questions first’ while solving questions from this section. After attempting all the easy questions, you can attempt the tougher questions later.
  • Use shortcut tricks to solve questions from these section. This approach will make you solve the questions faster.
  • Important topics from this section:

  1. Number System
  2. Algebra
  3. Trigonometry
  4. Geometry
  5. Mensuration

General Awareness and Current Affairs:

  • This section is meant to test a candidate’s ‘general awareness’.
  • It is most unpredictable section of all. The questions asked can be from any random topic.
  • This section can be the one which can attempted quickly as compared to others i.e. max 12- 15 mins. Meanwhile, you can also score good marks.
  • Keep a note of recent events (both national and international). Read newspapers, watch news and read magazines which will help you in this regard.
  • Keep a record of important news related to economy, polity, sports, census, stock market, awards and honours etc.
  • Skim through the previous year papers to get a sense of questions asked and weightage of different topics.
  • Important topics from this section:
  1. Economics/Budget
  2. Politics
  3. Indian History
  4. Geography
  5. Current Affairs: News related to events/people, Awards, Sports, etc.
  6. Books
  7. Indian Railway (History, organisation, current news etc.)
  8. Concepts of science (Class X standard): Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Environment, Fundamentals of computers (MS Office, Computer Fundamentals of Hardware and software, Terminology related to web etc.)

  • Apply shortcut tricks- In the exam, try to solve the questions using shortcut tricks. This will enable you to solve questions faster and save a lot of time which you can devote to tough questions.
  • Know your strength and plan- Figure out the section which is your strength and plan accordingly.
  • Manage time and enhance accuracy- Manage your time along with accuracy. Increase the speed of solving and enhance accuracy which will help you. Don’t waste time by sticking to questions which seem tough as it will affect your performance
  • Practice mock tests: Practice mock tests which will enable you to understand the pattern easily. It makes analysis easy for you as which section to attempt first and which to attempt later.
