  • Sentence Rearrangement/ Para Jumbles

  • Spotting of errors

  • Grammar Basics

Those topics can be categorized into two groups:

  1. The topics which require good English

  2. The topics which don’t require good English

a.The topics which don’t require good English:

English is such a section to which if you devote an hour daily, it can be a scoring section in the exam. Some of the topics which require good English skills are as follows:

  • Reading Comprehension- For this topic, develop a habit of reading passages and answering questions based on them. In order to score well in ‘Reading Comprehension” passages, practice reading comprehension questions from sample papers and previous year papers.

  • Gap Fillers/ Cloze Test- Try to understand the theme or approach of the sentence and you can easily fill the gaps in the sentences using simple words.

  • Para jumbles- A healthy practice of para jumbles can make you easily solve para jumble questions in the exam. This topic doesn’t necessarily demand good English.

b.The topics which require good English:

There are a few topics which necessarily need good English. Some of the topics that require good English are:

  • Grammar Basics- The grammar topics require good English skills because if you are sound at English only then you will be able to answer grammar questions. The best book for grammar is “Wren and Martin”

  • Vocabulary- There is no way of developing vocabulary without good English. If you are sound in English, you can very well score in vocabulary. Read articles and newspapers to develop your vocabulary. Follow a standard text book like “Objective General English” by R.D. Sharma.

The above will help you mark your strong and weak areas.

IBPS Clerk Prelims 2016: Tips for English
