Interestingly, you have to write the Mains exam in pen and paper mode. The total marks for this paper is 300, and you will get 2 hours to complete the paper.

SSC JE 2017 Eligibility Criteria – SSC JE 2017 Exam Pattern
You have to be between 18 to 27 years of age for the Department of Post (for Civil and Electrical) and MES (for Surveying and Contract). For MES (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical), the maximum age limit is 30 years. Furthermore, the maximum age limit is 32 years for Central Water Commission and CPWD (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical).
Also, you need to have a B.E./B. Tech/Diploma in the concerned discipline from a recognized University.
Additionally, for MES department, you need to have minimum 2 years work experience in the relevant field.
