SSC CGL 2016 Selection Procedure
The Staff Selection Commission conducts the Combined Graduate Level examination every year for the recruitment of employees for various posts in the Ministries and Departments of the government of India. Every year lakhs of aspirants, predominantly first-timers who are unaware of the procedural workings give this examination. This article will provide the candidates appearing this year the necessary information regarding SSC CGL 2016 Selection Procedure.
Scheme of Examination
Recruitment through this examination will be a three tier process. The movement to each level is subject to the previous level’s performance. The candidates eligible for the subsequent levels of examination will have to clear the eligibility criteria of the previous level. The three tiers are as follows:
- Tier 1: Preliminary Examination (objective MCQ pattern)
- Tier 2: Main Examination (objective MCQ pattern)
- Tier 3: Interview/ Computer Proficiency Test/ Skill Test/ Document Verification
Tier 1
The tier 1 is a preliminary examination which is compulsory for all the candidates. Only those candidates who clear this examination will qualify for the tier 2 examinations. It is an objective type written examination and tests the basic knowledge and skills of the candidates. Its salient features are:

The exam is bilingual and the time limit is 2 hours (120 minutes).
Tier 2
The tier 2 examination is known as the mains examination. It is also an objective type written examination. The candidates who clear the minimum cut-off qualify for the next level of examination. The important features are:

- Paper I and paper II are compulsory for all.
- Paper III is compulsory for the posts of Statistical Investigators Group II and compiler.
Tier 3
It is the final level of selection. The candidates who qualify the tier 1 and tier 2 will be eligible for tier 3 which will include Interview/ Computer Proficiency Test/ Skill test/ Document verification.
After the conduction of all three tiers, the All India merit list will be announced and the candidates will be allotted the posts accordingly.
