IBPS RRB Assistant multipurpose, Officer Scale-I & II Study Plans & Strategy

IBPS has recently called the aspirant candidates for the recruitment of RRB assistant multipurpose for the post of officer for scale 1 and scale 2. The recruitments are done to post the deserving and qualified candidates in the public sector banks and the government financial institutes across the country. There are total 1650 posts available under different categories.

Before we jump to the plans and strategy to prepare for these exams, it is important to know the eligibility criteria.

RRB Officer Scale 1: Candidates who have degree from the recognized university and proficiency in any local language along with computer awareness can enroll for the scale 1 job. However the preference is given to those candidates who have degree in agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, engineering, management, law, economics and accountancy etc.

RRB Officer Scale 2:The recruitment authority has different eligibly criteria for officer scale 2 (general banking officer) as it seeks for the candidates having 50% of aggregate marks in graduation and the preference is given to those who have degree in banking, finance, agriculture, marketing, animal husbandry etc. For the Scale 2 (specialist officer), the candidate should have degree in electronics / communication / computer science / information technology and minimum 50% aggregate and one year experience. The candidate will have to thoroughly prepare for the professional paper.

Understanding the Exam Pattern and Topics Distribution

The candidates need to understand the exam pattern first for these recruitments. It will help them to understand how to allot time for different sections according to their score weightage. Let us undergo the basic sections of the pre level of assistant multipurpose, Officer Scale 1 and scale 2 (general banking officer) and find out the topic distribution in each section. We can understand the importance of topics in different sections which we find pervasive in all the three exams at pre level.

Reasoning Ability: This section comprise of the topics like seating arrangement, puzzle, coding decoding, coded inequalities, blood relations, syllogism, input output, alpha numeric series, data sufficiency, tabulation etc.

1. Scoring Topics: Puzzle, seating arrangement, syllogism, coding decoding are such topics that are highly scoring. The candidate may find them difficult but the best part is that these questions come with 4-5 sub questions based on one. You can invest your time in solving the puzzle by writing down in tables and similarly you can draw proper sequence of seating arrangement with right approach and fetch good marks.

2. Difficult Topics: The topics which have high difficulty level include input output, puzzle, coding decoding. You need to practice on these topics thoroughly before you go for exam. These topics need extensive exercise of brain on different types of questions as you cannot solve them with the blind stroke.

3. Practice Basic: Arithmetic Operations: Learning the multiplication tables, squares, cubes and tricks to do arithmetic operations fast will help you to solve the questions based on numeric series, coded inequalities and tabulation.

Quantitative Aptitude: This section comprise of the topics like data interpretation, permutation and combination, probability, ratio and proportion, mixture and allegation, profit and loss, percentage, discount, number system, sequence and series, time and work, time and distance, simple interest, compound interest, surds and indices etc.

1. Highest Scoring: The topics that can enable you to fetch highest marks include data interpretation, permutation and combinations, sequence and series, number system and simplification. The candidates must focus on the data interpretation as it alone contains 15 marks of questions.

2. Difficult Topics: Mixture and Allegation, Sequence and Series and Simplification are bit of difficult level and can take some time to solve. However regular practice and understanding of the concepts would help you to solve these questions on time.

3. Learn percentage table and arithmetic tricks: To tackle the quantitative aptitude the candidate should have strong hold over basic calculations. You can learn tricks of doing basic arithmetic operations in less time. And it is advisable that learning the percentage table, multiplication table would help the candidate to solve the high scoring data interpretation topic in least time.

English: This section includes topics like comprehensions, grammar topics like verb, noun, pronoun, preposition, vocabulary check through one word substitution, synonyms, antonyms, cloze test etc.

1. Highest Scoring: Reading Comprehensions and Cloze Test are the highest scoring topics and the candidate need to develop regular reading habit and work upon the grammar topics to fetch marks from this area.

2. Working upon Vocabulary: Learning the words from word bank that includes the type of difficult words asked in general competitive exams would help the candidate.

General Awareness: The section of general awareness includes the current affairs dealing with the economy of the nation, developmental policies, banking awareness, Indian constitution, budget, banking schemes. The thrust is mainly on the fiscal policies, banking sector and economy in this section.

1. Reading Newspaper: The candidate should read newspaper regularly and mainly focus on the business and economy section. Make sure you know the latest appointments made in the banking sector and finance ministry and other crucial ministries. Keep yourself abreast of the latest fiscal and national developmental policies introduced by the government.

2. Basic General Knowledge Magazines: The candidates can go through the general knowledge magazines for competitive exam and can learn the latest developments and appointments in the government and crucial institutions.

Computer Knowledge: In today’s digital world, it has become imperative for the government employees to connect with masses and perform regular functions through computer technology. And such skill is tested in the RRB exams by the recruiters.

1. Basic Computer Knowledge: Candidate must be aware of the hardware, software, basic computer programmes, and security tools and should also have decent knowledge of the computer such as history of computer, inventions in development of computer etc.

2. Latest Technology: The candidate should be aware of the latest developments in computer technology and new inventions being introduced such as new software, window programmes.

Smart Strategy to Crack IBPS RRB Exams

  • Practice Mock Tests Daily: It is important for the candidate to go through the mock tests regularly as it will enhance speed and will give strong control over solving the questions. The candidate should set the timer and solve each question within limited time however make sure you do this time bound practice only when you have strong grip over topics and you just need to pace up the speed.

  • Keep yourself Updated about Government Policies: The government schemes, especially in the banking and finance sector should be checked regularly. The policies introduced by the government also need to be checked.

  • Keep Updated about the banking rates: The candidate should know the latest rates as set by the RBI, like Cash reserve ratio, banking rate, repo rate, SLR, teaser rates.

Achieving Goal through Wise Study Plan

1. Refer to Previous Year Papers: It is basic to refer the previous year papers so that you can understand which topic has what weightage. It helps you to grow confidence and understand you own level of performance.

2. Check the Changed Trend in Other Exams: Being in present and analyzing the latest trend is the smart strategy. You must check if the government recruiters have brought any change in the pattern they ask questions in other exams, you can refer to present year question papers of other IBPS exams.

3. Precise Study: You must know what your goal is and accordingly you should hit on the mark. There is no point of understanding deep concepts and multiple theories if that is not required in exam. For instance, in quantitative aptitude you should know that most of the questions are asked on data interpretation and mainly from arithmetic section so you should not waste time on the advanced mathematics section and learning the formulae.
