National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a reputed institute in fashion education in India. It conducts NIFT Exam to offer admission into the Bachelor of Design (B.Des), Master of Design (M.Des), Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech), Master of Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech) and Master of Fashion Management (MFM).

  • NIFT Application Form shall be available from the last week of October 2019.
  • Candidates can apply for UG or PG courses through the same online application.
  • Applicants with a minimum age of 17 years can apply for the UG courses while for the PG courses the minimum age is 21 years.
  • The application fee for general category candidates is INR 2000 while that for reserved category is INR 1000

  • NIFT 2020 comprises the written test, situation test, and GD/PI. There are two papers in the written exam – CAT, and GAT.
  • For B.Des and M.Des courses, the GAT exam will be 2 hours. On the other hand, the duration of B.F.Tech, MFM & M.F.Tech, GAT exam will be for 3 hours.
  • NIFT Admission is provided to the qualified candidates in various campuses located in Chennai, New Delhi, Bhopal, Gandhinagar, Kangra, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Raebareli, Shillong, Kannur, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Srinagar, and Patna.

The NIFT 2020 Exam Dates are announced by the official authority. Below mentioned are the dates of some of the important events related to NIFT Exam:

NIFT 2020 Eligibility Criteria

Only the candidates who satisfy the NIFT eligibility criterion can apply for the entrance exam. The eligibility conditions for both UG and PG level programs are given below: 

Age Limit:

  • Not more than 23 years as on October 1, 2019, for General candidates (Relaxation up to 5 years for SC/ST/PWD candidates)
  • No age limit prescribed for PG programmes

Academic Qualification:

For B. Des. Programme: 

  • Successfully completed or appearing for 10+2 qualifying examination or equivalent from any recognized Board

For B. F. Tech Programme:

  • Successfully completed or appearing for 10+2 qualifying examination or equivalent from any recognized Board, having studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as a subject combination

For MFM Programme:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized Institute/University.

For M. F. Tech Programme:

  • B. F. Tech. from NIFT, OR, B. E/B. Tech. from a recognized Institute/University.

NIFT 2020 Application Form

The NIFT 2020 Application Form will be accessible from the fourth week of October 2019 on the official website and the last date for submitting the Application Form will be the fourth week of December 2019. Applicants are required to visit the official website, i.e. www.nift.ac.in and follow the steps listed below to complete the application process.

  • Register on the official website before proceeding to fill the NIFT 2020 Application Form. Upon successful registration, the applicant’s login credentials will be sent via email to the registered email address.
  • Log in using the credentials to access and fill the Application Form. Fill in all the mandatory fields with correct details.
  •  Applicants will need to upload scanned copies of their recent passport-size coloured photograph and signature in black on white background in JPG/JPEG format
  •  After uploading the required documents, the Application Fee can be paid online via Credit/Debit Card or offline via demand draft. In the case of offline fee payment, applicants need to draw a Demand Draft of the requisite amount in favor of ‘NIFT HO’ payable at New Delhi.
  • Applicants must send the Demand Draft along with a printout of the filled-in Application Form duly completed in all respects (via Speed Post/Registered Post/Courier Service) to:

NIFT Application Fee

  • For General/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) - INR 2000
  • For SC/ST/PH candidates - INR 1000
  • Foreign Nationals (only online payment accepted)- USD 1000

NIFT Application Form Correction

  • In case candidates have made mistakes while filling the application form, the corrections can be made after the opening of the application correction window. The Application correction is expected to start from the last week of December 2019 to the 1st week of January 2020.

NIFT 2020 Admit Card

  • The admit cards of provisionally eligible candidates for written test will be available for download from the official website in the second week of January 2020 on the basis of information provided by applicants in the NIFT application form.
  • After clearing the written test of NIFT 2020 Entrance Exam qualified candidates need to appear for the situation test Exam In the month of March 2020 for UG Courses and for admission in master’s programs they need to appear for Group Discussion/ Interview round.
  • Candidates need to download Admit Card for situation test Exam from the NIFT official website 
  • NIFT 2020 Admit Card is a necessary document without which candidates will not allowed to appear for the examination.
  • In case of any discrepancy in the particulars of the candidate or his/her photograph and signatures shown in the Admit Card and Confirmation Page, the candidate may immediately approach the concerned authority.

NIFT 2020 Exam Centers

Candidates are required to select only one examination city according to their choice during the application process.Once selected the candidate will not be able to change the examination center opted and nor any request for a change in examination center will be entertained by NIFT that reserves the right to cancel any of the Examination Centres tabulated below:

NIFT 2020 Exam Pattern

NIFT 2020 entrance exam seeks to check the knowledge, aptitude, and skills of the candidates for the program chosen by the candidate. the entrance test consists of Written-test, Situation Test, and Group Discussion/Personal Interview. The written test is further divided into Creative Ability Test (CAT), and General Ability Test (GAT). Candidates can attempt all the questions as there is no negative marking.

Written Test

  1. Creative ability test (CAT) for B.Des and M.Des:

CAT (Creative Ability Test) tries to assess the observing power of applicants in the growth of a concept, as well as their intuitive skill to design. Important elements of the CAT are the illustrative abilities and creativity of candidates in using color.

  1. General ability test (GAT):
  •  The overall aptitude and quantitative, communicative and analytical abilities of the applicants will be assessed in the GAT (General Ability Test) apart from general knowledge and current events.
  • Exam Duration for GAT written test will be 2 hours for B.Des & M.Des 3 hours for B.F.Tech, MFM & M.F.Tech

Situation Test

A candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability as per the given situation with the material provided is evaluated in this exam.

Group Discussion/ Personal Interview: The final stage of NIFT 2020 will be the Personal Interview round wherein Interview Panel on the basis of the candidates’ academic and co-curricular achievements, creative and lateral thinking ability, communication skills, and finally, career orientation and aptness for the selected program will evaluate the candidate.

NIFT Syllabus

  • The GAT consist of topics such as Quantitative Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Analytical and Logical Ability, Problem Solving Approach. 
  • The CAT includes topics such as Design Ability, Observation Power, Creativity in Thought Development.

NIFT Preparation

  • Create a practical study plan by Giving more time to topics that you find difficult and keep a buffer so that you can complete some pending revision.
  • The important thing is not to waste time over questions which seem to be difficult. Finish off all the sections which you are really good at so that you can dedicate more time to the difficult ones.
  • If you are planning to give your exam in the 9-12 slot, you should practice solving papers at the same time so that your mind is trained to be super active during that period.
  • Practicing previous year question papers during the last couple of months before the exam. 
  • Analyze your exam preparation level by attempting mock tests.

NIFT 2020 Result

NIFT 2020 Result for the written test will be declared on the official website in the first week of March 2020, after which the situation test for the candidate will be conducted in the month of April/May 2020.

The result can be downloaded from the official website by following the steps given below:

  • Step 1: Visit the official website of NIFT, i.e. www.nift.ac.in.
  • Step 2: Click on the tab ‘Result 2019’
  • Step 3: Enter details as demanded on-screen.
  • Step 4: the result would be displayed on the screen.
  • Step 5: Download the result and obtain a printout.

NIFT Cut-off

NIFT 2020 Cut-off is the closing rank set by NIFT Participating Institutes and the same will vary across NIFT campuses. The cutoff list will be released after the results are announced. There are 16 NIFT campuses in India all of them will release an opening and closing rank for various courses.

NIFT 2020 Selection Process

All eligible candidates would have to go through an examination process. The process for each programme along with the weightage assigned to each test in the final merit list of the entrance examination is tabulated below:

NIFT Admission Procedure

NIFT Counselling 2020 is expected to commence from June 2020. Candidates are required to register through the official website in order to participate in the counselling process, Only those candidates will be eligible for counselling rounds who will have a common merit rank. The candidates need to enter their choice of campus for the counselling session.

  •  For the GD and PI Interview rounds, candidates have to download call letter online by entering their application number, date of birth and roll number.
  • At the time of counselling, document verification of the candidates will be also done.
  • Though the institute does not charge any fee for the primary round of counseling, however each subsequent round of counseling would be charged at the rate of INR 5000. Further details of counseling like the mode, dates, and procedure will be available on the official website in due course.

Documents required in originals along with photocopies for NIFT 2020 Counselling process:

  • All-Academic Certificates up to qualifying examination. In case of final exam appearing candidate whose result is due, all original mark sheet of the previous semester/years needs to be presented along with the date sheet/admit card for examination.
  • Demand Draft of requisite fee in favor of ‘NIFT HO’. Payable at New Delhi has to be submitted. The candidate’s name, counseling date, contact number, program name, NIFT Rank and Roll Number should be clearly mentioned at the back of DD.
  • Proof of DOB
  • Documents in the prescribed format, in support of the claim of reservation.
  • Parents Income Certificate as the basis for Tuition Fee funding.
  • Medical certificate in the prescribed format issued by a Registered Medical Practitioner.
  • Affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper of Rs.10/- for seeking only provisional admission in case the qualifying examination result is due.
  • Anti-Ragging Declaration and Declaration regarding Fee Refund.
