The National Institute of Design conducts an entrance exam every year for offering admissions into Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), Masters of Design (M.Des.) and Ph.D. in Design. The NID Exam 2021 is conducted in two stages Prelims and Mains.

What is the Eligibility criteria for NID DAT 2021?

Candidates willing to apply for NID 2021 Entrance Exam need to follow the eligibility criteria explained below:

  • Age Limit: Candidates above 20 years as of July 30, 2021, are not eligible to apply.
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have completed or appeared in the final examination of 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board (AISSE/ICSE/CBSE).

How to Apply for NID 2021?

The entire application process for NID DAT 2021 is only through online mode. There are four stages included during NID Registration 2021 i.e, Registration, Filling the form, uploading documents, and paying the application fee.

  1. Visit the official website for completing the registration process. 
  2. Provide the valid mobile no., email ID, Date of birth, etc. while registering.
  3. After registration, login credentials will be sent via an email to the registered email address.
  4. Login to the portal using the credentials received after registration.
  5. Fill the application form by entering all the details correctly. 
  6. Upload all the necessary documents in the specified format.
  7. Pay the application fee either online or offline mode. 

NID Admit Card 2021

Candidates who have completed the application process successfully will receive the admit cards. The NID 2021 Admit Card is the mandatory document that has to be carried to the exam hall. The admit card can be downloaded by following the below steps:

  1. Visit the official website of NID – admissions.nid.edu.
  2. Click on the link  “NID 2021 Admit Card”.
  3. Enter the login credentials and click the submit button.
  4. The Admit Card will be generated on the screen.
  5. Take a printout for future reference.

NID Admission Process 2021

NID 2021 Admission Process is a 2-tier procedure that includes Prelims and Mains. Qualifying both the stages will result in getting admission into the desired NID. Check out the detailed admission process:

Registration

  • Candidates satisfying eligibility criteria can proceed with the application process. 
  • The registration process is in online mode. 
  • Make sure to keep all the required documents ready in hand before proceeding with the process.
  • Candidates can pay the application fee either online or offline.
  • Also, it is important for all candidates to take a print out of the form for future reference.

NID Prelims Exam 2021

  • The first stage of the Design Aptitude Test is a written test that comprises of objective as well as subject questions.
  • The time duration for the preliminary exam is 3 hours.

NID DAT Mains 2021 (for M.Des)

  • Candidates who have secured marks above the cut off are eligible for the mains exam.
  • This stage comprises of studio tests and Interviews conducted by the exam authorities. 
  • In studio test, candidates are given practical assignments that need to be completed in a given time. 

NID Final Result

  • Based on the candidate's performance in prelims and mains, the final merit list is prepared by the authorities.
  • These candidates will be offered NID Admissions at different NID across India.

How to Prepare for NID 2021?

NID DAT Prelims consists of both objective and subjective type questions. So candidates must ensure to prepare equally for both types of questions.

  • One of the important tips by toppers is that candidates practice how to sketch objects and human figures.
  • Make sure to be thorough with the detailed syllabus and pattern of the exam.
  • List out all the important topics you need to focus on.

NID Exam Analysis & Students' Reaction

NID 2020 Exam Review

  • As per the student's feedback, the exam was a moderate level of difficulty. All questions were doable. 
  • Majority of the candidates said the question paper was lengthy as they had to attempt 6 subjective questions. 

NID 2019 Exam Review

  • Most of the students who appeared for the exam said the pattern of the exam was changed and it was conveyed to students. 
  • As per the pattern informed by authorities, the exam had to include 30 marks subjective and 70 marks objective. But, in the examination, this was reversed.

NID Exam Result

The result for the preliminary exam will be declared in the month of February 2021 while the mains result will be out in May 2021. Candidates can check their results from the official website by following the below steps:

  3. Enter roll no, the application number, and submit.
  4. The result PDF will be displayed on the screen.

NID 2021 Cut Off Marks

Generally, the cut off marks will be released after the results. Candidates must remember that scoring above the cut-off only will result in getting shortlisted for the merit list.

NID 2021 Counselling

The National Institute of Design conducts the counselling process in 2 stages during the first week of June 2021. Candidates who have been shortlisted can appear for counselling. The 2 step conselling includes:

Online Consent by Qualified Candidates

An online consent has to be sent by qualified candidates from June 2021 for being eligible for the next stage of counselling. Based on the online consent, the merit list will be released and uploaded regularly on the official NID website.

Online Uploading of Documents

After the release of the final merit list, candidates need to upload a few documents in jpeg format for the purpose of verification. The documents required are as follows:

  • 10th mark sheet
  • 12th mark sheet
  • Birth certificate
  • Graduation degree for admission to M.Des.

The uploaded documents will be verified by the information mentioned in NID 2020 application form. In case of any mismatch, the admission of the candidate is liable to cancellation.

NID DAT 2021 Reservation

The National Institute of Design follows the reservation norms for all courses offered by them. The category-wise reservation of seats for all courses as per NID Reservation policy is as tabulated below:

The Persons with Disability (PwD) will be given a 3% horizontal reservation of seats from the parent category in each program cutting across all sections i.e. SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy only), and General category. 

NID Reservation for Overseas Candidates

There is a provision for 15% reservation of supernumerary seats in B. Des. and M. Des. Programs for overseas category candidates. The candidates belonging to the NRI category (Non-Resident of India) shall be required to apply as Indian Citizens.

The NID DAT 2021 Exam is expected to be conducted in the month of February or March 2021. 

Is there any limits on number of attempts in NID DAT Exam?

There is no limit on number of attempts provided candidates fulfill the age limit criteria. 

Can a student from Class 12 Arts stream apply for NID Entrance Exam 2021?

Yes, candidates appearing/passed Higher Secondary (10+2) in any stream are eligible to apply for BDes in NID DAT 2021. 

What is the age limit to apply for NID DAT Exam 2021?

For BDes upper age limit is 20 years on or before July 30, 2021. Relaxation of 3 years for reserved category candidates. In case of MDes upper age limit is 30 years on or before JUly 30, 2021.

What is the education qualification required to apply for NID DAT 2021?

Candidates appearing/passed higher secondary (10+2) from a recognized board are eligible to apply for BDes. Bachelor’s degree in 10+2+4 scheme in any discipline from a recognized institute/college is required to apply for MDes program.
