The National Institute of Design (NID) is one of the premium institutes in the field of design. NID is situated in 7 cities of the nation Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Bangalore, Kurukshetra, Bhopal, Jorhat,& Vijayawada. An entrance examination is held to select eligible students in various UG and PG courses in the field of design.

  • The Maximum Age Of The Candidates Must Not Be More Than 20 Years. There is a relaxation in the age limit of three years for reserved category candidates. This is for only undergraduate candidates.
  • For postgraduate applicants, the maximum age limit of the applicants must not be above 30 years, with relaxation in the upper age limit of 3 years for reserved category applicants.
  • Courses offered by NID in 2020 is Des (Bachelor of Design), GDPD (Graduate Diploma Programme in Design) and M.Des (Master of Design).

NID ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The eligibility criteria for NID entrance exam for BDes/GDPG Course states that candidates who have passed or who will be appearing for their higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examination from any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce etc) from any recognized board  such as CBSE, IB, ICSE can also apply for the exam.

Candidates will find below the NID entrance exam  eligibility criteria for BDes & GDPD course admissions.

  • Both Indian & foreign nationals in overseas are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates appearing in their qualifying exam are also eligible to apply they have to provide their passing certificate at the time of admission.
  • Applying candidates maximum age can be 20 years as on 30th June 2020. SC/ST/OBC candidates will get 3 years of age relaxation while PwD candidates will get 5 years of age relaxation. This is for BDes/GDPD COURSE.
  • From Des COURSE candidates maximum age can be 30 years as on 30th June 2020.SC/ST/OBC candidates will get 3 years of age relaxation while PwD candidates will get 5 years of age relaxation.

For B.Des & GDPD Programme

  • There is a prescribed upper age limit of 20 years as on or before 30th June 2020. There are 3 years of age relaxation for the reserved category.
  • Candidates who have passed/appearing (10+2) exam from a recognized educational board are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who are appearing in there qualifying exam have to submit proof of there passing there qualifying exam at the time of admission.

For M.Des Programme

  • There is a prescribed upper age limit of 30 years as on or before 30th June 2020. There is 3 years of age relaxation for reserved category.
  • Candidates who have passed/appearing a bachelor’s degree in any discipline under the 10+2+4 (or more) system are eligible to apply.

OR

Diploma in design under (10+2+4) system.

OR

Candidates who have passed there bachelor’s degree in any discipline before July 2019 under the system 10+2+3 are eligible to apply.

NID APPLICATION FORM

Given below are the steps to apply for NID 2020: 

SIGNUP/REGISTRATION

  • Students can obtain the application form through online mode only by visiting the NID official website, i.e. www.nid.edu
  • Fill the application form by entering the information like Mobile No., email ID, Date of Birth, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Qualification details etc.
  • After entering the details, students are required to upload their scanned photo and signature along with the other required documents.
  • Now save all the information to complete the registration process.

PAYMENT OF APPLICATION FEES

  • To obtain the application form, candidates have to submit application fees it can be paid online & offline both.
  • Candidates can pay online the application fees via credit /debit card.
  • Candidates who want to pay offline the application fees they have to pay via Demand Draft drawn in favour of  ‘ALL INDIA MANAGEMENT ASSICIATION’ payable at New Delhi.

NID 2020 APPLICATION PROCESS FOR FOREIGN NATIONALS

Overseas candidates can apply for NID 2019 and will have to appear for the subsequent stages of selection (Studio Test and Personal Interview) at NID Ahmedabad Campus. The candidates would need to submit the following documents at the time of registration:

  • Attested copy of pages of the passport of containing candidates’ details.
  • For B.Des. program – The candidates need to submit attested copies of their SSC, HSC mark sheets. For SSC appearing candidates, it is important to present bonafide certificate.
  • For M.Des. program – The candidates need to submit attested copies of their SSC, HSC, marksheets and graduation certificate

NID DAT 2020 ADMIT CARD

Admit card for NID 2020 will be obtained online and can be downloaded from the candidate’s legitimate account generated during the registration process for NID examination.

Candidates can follow the steps given below to download the ADMIT CARD of NID DAT 2020:-

  • Visit the official website of NID Entrance Exam.
  • Click on NID DAT Admit Card tab/link.
  • Fill the required information such as email address, DOB, Roll No., Application No. and finally, verification number and click on “Submit” button.
  • Click on ‘Download Admit Card’ and Also Save it For Future References.
  • Take a print out of NID ADMIT CARD 2020 on an A4 size paper.

NID EXAM CENTERS

 The candidates are allowed to choose and disclose the NID 2019 exam centre of their own option in the NID 2019 application form. But the NID 2019 alone will make the exam centre allocation for the NID 2019 examination. The examination cell has the right to include or remove any of the examination centres and allocate a test centre that is not selected by the candidate during registration.

The requests or any other application for modifying the test centre will not be encouraged by the NID 2019. The overseas candidates can attend the Design Aptitude Test, Studio Test and Interview in Ahmadabad only.

  • The exam assesses candidates designing skills, creativity, reasoning ability and problem-solving skills. The exam is conducted for three courses – B.Des, M.Des and GDPD. Each has 2 sections having MCQ and subjective questions.
  • Des/GDPD course exam is divided into 2 sections i.e., section A which contains 64 MCQs and Section B which contains 3 Subjective Questions.
  • Des course exam is divided into 2 section i.e., section A which contains 59 MCQs and Section B which contains 3 subjective Questions

NID EXAM 2020 RESULT

NID Mains exam result for M.Des will be releasing in the month of May 2020 while B.Des. & GDPD result will be releasing in May , 2020. The candidates can check their results online by following the steps mentioned below:

  • Go to the official website – results.nid.edu
  • Click on the link NID RESULT 2020
  • Enter roll no. and application no. and click submit.
  • The result will appear on the screen
  • Take the printout and keep it for further reference.

 NID 2020 CUT OFF

The cut off of NID 2020 will be released after the declaration of NID results. The candidates get admission in 4-year undergraduate or diploma courses and 2.5 years postgraduate courses in design after clearing all the stages of the exam. The expected NID 2020 cutoff is as follows:

NID 2020 COUNSELLING

The 2 step counselling process of NID 2020 will be conducted in the first week of June 2020. The shortlisted candidates will be able to participate in the counselling process. The 2 steps of counselling are as follows:

  • The online consent is to be sent by qualified candidates from June 2020 for being eligible for the next step of counselling. Based on the online consent, the merit list will be released and uploaded regularly on the official NID website.
  • Once the candidates' name has been mentioned on the merit list, they need to upload a few documents in jpeg format for the purpose of verification. The documents required are as follows:
  • 10th mark sheet
  • 12th mark sheet
  • Birth certificate
  • Graduation degree for admission to M.Des.

The uploaded documents will be verified by the information mentioned in NID 2020 application form. In case of any mismatch, the admission of the candidate is liable to cancellation.

NID 2020 RESERVATION

NID 2019 has reservation norms for all the courses offered by the National institute of Design. As per the latest notice, the newly brought EWS reservation is also applicable. The category-wise reservation of seats for all the courses as per the NID Reservation Policy is given as follows:

The Persons with Disability (PwD) will be given a 3% horizontal reservation of seats from the parent category in each programme cutting across all sections i.e. SCs, STs, OBCs (Non-Creamy only) and General category.

To avail the NID 2020 reservation the candidate has to keep in mind that it will be provided to only those candidates who have 40% or more category as per the rules and guidelines issued by the Government of India.

NID 2020 Reservation for Overseas Candidates

There is a provision for 15% reservation of supernumerary seats in B. Des. and M. Des. Programmes for overseas category candidates. The candidates belonging to the NRI category (Non-Resident of India) shall be required to apply as Indian Citizens.
