NID 2023 Notification, Exam Dates & Eligibility

The NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Institute of Design for providing admission to UG and PG programs in the Design category.

The admission is provided based on your performance in the two stages of the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) i.e., DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

NID 2022 Latest News!! 

  • The B.Des DAT Mains Studio Test is scheduled to be conducted on Saturday, 18 June 2022 between 9 AM to 1 PM. The NID Studio Test will be conducted in the following cities viz. Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata & Pune.
  • The candidates will be provided with an interface to choose a test center of their choice between 4 pm, Wednesday, 25 May 2022 up to 4 pm Friday, 27 May 2022. The exact timings of the Studio Test and the address of the Test Centre will be communicated in the Admit Card.
  • The DAT Mains test center will have to be selected by the candidates themselves only. Allotment of the DAT Mains test center will be on first-cum-first-serve basis. Candidates who fail to submit their test center preference will be allotted the test center automatically by the system based on the number of seats available at the respective test centers. The discretion to allow any test center rests with Admission Cell-NID Ahmedabad. 

NID 2023 Entrance Exam Dates & Schedule

The National Institute of Design will release the official notification for the NID 2023 exam on the official website. The entrance exam is conducted in two stages:

  • Prelims
  • Mains

Both the stages are qualifying in nature. To apply for the exam, your minimum age should be 19 years.

If you hold citizenship from a country other than the Republic of India, you are eligible to apply under the overseas category.

NID 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Only those who will satisfy the criteria set by the exam conducting body are eligible to apply for the exam. Your candidature will get cancelled if you do not satisfy the Eligibility Criteria for NID Exam 2023.

Age Limit: 

As per the official notification, Indian Nationals belonging to the general category and general EWS category must have been born on or after 01 July 2002 whereas those belonging to SC/ST/OBC-NCL category must have born on or after 01 July 1999 to apply for the NID entrance exam.

If you belong to the PwD category, you must have been born on or after 01 July 1997 in order to be eligible for the admission process.

Educational Qualification:

  • You must have completed the final examination of 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board (AISSE/ICSE/CBSE) in order to be eligible for the exam.
  • Those who are appearing for the higher secondary examination in the academic year 2023 can also apply for the NID DAT exam.

How to Apply for NID 2023?

The entire application process for NID DAT 2023 is only through online mode. There are four stages involved in the NID application process i.e, online registration, filling the application form, uploading documents, and paying the application fee.

  • Visit the official website of NID i.e. www.nid.edu
  • Click on the "New Registration" tab
  • Provide the valid mobile number, email ID, Date of birth, and click on the submit button
  • After registration, login credentials will be sent via email to the registered email ID and mobile number.
  • Re-login to the portal using the credentials received after registration.
  • Fill the application form by entering all the details correctly. 
  • Upload all the necessary documents in the specified format.
  • Pay the application fee either online or offline mode. 

NID 2023 Admission Process

NID 2023 Admission Process is a 2-tier procedure that includes Prelims and Mains. Qualifying both stages will result in getting admission into the desired NID.

Registration

  • You can proceed with the application process, only if you satisfy the eligibility criteria.
  • Make sure to keep all the required documents ready in hand before proceeding with the process.
  • You can pay the application fee either online or offline.

NID Prelims Exam 2023

  • The first stage of the Design Aptitude Test is a written test that comprises objective as well as subject questions.
  • The time duration of the preliminary exam is 3 hours.

NID DAT Mains 2023 (for M.Des)

  • You have to score above the cut-off in the prelims exam to get shortlisted for the mains exam.
  • This stage comprises studio tests and interview conducted by the exam authorities. 
  • In the studio test, you are given practical assignments that need to be completed in a given time. 

NID Final Result

  • Based on your performance in prelims and mains, the final merit list is prepared by the authorities.
  • You will be offered admissions at different NID across India if you get qualified in all the stages of the exam.

NID DAT Reservation 2023

The National Institute of Design follows the reservation norms for all courses offered by them. The category-wise reservation of seats for all courses as per NID Reservation policy is as tabulated below:

NID Reservation for Overseas Category

There is a provision for a 15% reservation of supernumerary seats in B. Des. and M. Des. Programs for the overseas category.

If you belong to the NRI category (Non-Resident of India), then you need to apply as Indian Citizens.

As per the notification, the NID exam involves two stages: prelims and mains for both B.Des, GDPD, and M.Des. However, depending on the prevailing pandemic situation, NID may change the schedules or the structure of the paper pattern.

How to Prepare for NID 2023?

NID DAT Prelims consists of both objective and subjective type questions. So you must ensure to prepare equally for both types of questions. Here, we have provided a few tips to enhance your NID Preparation.

  • One of the important tips by toppers is that you should practice how to sketch objects and human figures.
  • Make sure to be thorough with the detailed syllabus and pattern of the exam.

NID 2021 Exam Review

  • As per the paper analysis, the exam was a moderate level of difficulty.
  • In the general knowledge section, questions related to Padma Shree Awards were asked.
  • There were questions based on the half triangle, half-square, half-hexagon, and Tongue Twister in the aptitude test.
  • Also, the drawing questions were quite lengthy.

NID 2020 Exam Review

  • As per the student's feedback, the exam was a moderate level of difficulty. All questions were doable. 
  • The majority of the students said the question paper was lengthy as they had to attempt 6 subjective questions. 

NID 2019 Exam Review

  • Most of the students who appeared for the exam said the pattern of the exam was changed and it was conveyed to students.

NID 2023 Counselling

Only those who will qualify in both prelims and mains exams will get shortlisted for the counselling process. The National Institute of Design conducts the counselling process in 2 stages and as explained below:

Online Consent by Qualified Aspirants

An online consent has to be sent by you for being eligible for the next stage of counselling. Based on the online consent, the merit list will be released and uploaded regularly on the official NID website.

Online Uploading of Documents

After the release of the final merit list, you need to upload a few documents in jpeg format for the purpose of verification. The documents required are as follows:

  • 10th mark sheet
  • 12th mark sheet
  • Birth certificate
  • Graduation degree for admission to M.Des.

The uploaded documents will be verified by the information mentioned in the NID application form. In case of any mismatch, your admission is liable to cancellation.

No. The National Institute of Design will release the NID Notification 2023 tentatively in October 2022.
There is no limit on number of attempts until and unless you fulfill the eligibility criteria. 
Yes, those who are appearing/passed Higher Secondary (10+2) in any stream are eligible to apply for B.Des in NID DAT 2023. 
For BDes upper age limit is 20 years. Relaxation of 3 years for reserved category candidates. In case of MDes upper age limit is 30 years.
Candidates appearing/passed higher secondary (10+2) from a recognized board are eligible to apply for BDes. Bachelor’s degree in 10+2+4 scheme in any discipline from a recognized institute/college is required to apply for MDes program.
Mode of Exam: The exam will be conducted offline mode.
Duration of Exam: 3 hours
Medium of Paper: The exam will be conducted only in the English language.

Yes. You can apply for NID 2023 with my parents mail ID but it should be active.
No. Maths is not required to apply for NID. However, you should have some basic knowledge to solve problems related to calculations.
To secure admission in the National Institute of Design, you need to appear for the NID Entrance Exam which comprises two stages: prelims and mains.
No. NID entrancee exam is conducted only in offline mode i.e. pen and paper mode.
In the NID exam you will be tested on topics like Creativity, Comprehension, Knowledge and Visualization, Drawing Skills, Memory Drawing, General Mental Ability, etc.
No. The difficulty level of the NID entrance exam is easy-moderate.
