Overview: Get ahead in your design career with our insider's guide to UCEED Seat Allotment 2026. Crucial dates, seat allocation strategies, and exclusive insights into top design institutes - all in one place.
UCEED seat allotment is the final stage of admission process into B.Des program at participating IITs through UCEED entrance exam. Once the results are announced, shortlisted candidates participate in a centralised counselling process and the seats will be assigned based on your current year's UCEED rank, category, and institute preferences.
There are three rounds of seat allocation for UCEED 2026, and the seat allocation through UCEED will be completed once the UCEED seats are filled.
If applicants are allotted their FIRST choice of institute, they can either ACCEPT (‘freeze’) the offer or DECLINE it. If they choose to DECLINE the offer, they will NOT be considered for subsequent rounds, and their current seat allocation shall be CANCELLED. This seat will be filled during the subsequent rounds (if any) of allotment, as per the UCEED Seat Allotment rules.
The seat allotment process will be conducted online as a joint admission process to 7 participating universities - IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Indore, IIT Roorkee, IIT Hyderabad and IITDM Jabalpur. But, how many seats are available for UCEED?
For year 2025, the total seats available across all the seven participating institutes are 245. The total seats for 2026 UCEED admissions may be more or less than 245 and will be confirmed by the institute on it's official website with the exam announcement notification.

Check: UCEED vs CEED
1. The UCEED Seat Allotment is done based on the Common Rank List (CRL)
2. Separate list is prepared for different categories (GEN, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC,ST, PwD)
3. Bring a candidate under reserved category doesn't guarantee admission. However, a higher rank will increase the chance of getting into B.Des of top IITs. For ex: A general category candidate with rank 25 will have higher chance of getting into IIT Bombay than anyone from any other category with rank 100.

The following rules will govern the UCEED Joint Seat Allotment process:
1. Your application will be cancelled if you do not remit the seat acceptance fee before the deadline or decline admission. These vacant seats will be filled in the subsequent rounds of UCEED Seat Allotment 2026.
2. If you are allotted your FIRST choice of institute, you can either ACCEPT ('freeze') the choice or DECLINE the offer. If you choose to DECLINE the offer, you will NOT be considered for subsequent rounds.
3. Suppose you are allotted your SECOND/THIRD/FOURTH choice of the institute. In that case, you can opt to either ACCEPT ('freeze') the choice or ACCEPT WITH THE OPTION TO BE CONSIDERED FOR UPWARD MOVEMENT ('float') the choice for the subsequent round(s), if any, of the joint seat allocation.
4. If you choose the 'freeze' option, it means you have ACCEPTED the offer and do not wish to participate in further rounds of seat allocation, and you will NOT be considered in subsequent rounds of admission.
5. If you choose the 'float' option, it means you have ACCEPTED the offer and have indicated that you will accept admission to an institute of your higher preference. Otherwise, you will continue with the currently accepted institute.
6. If you choose the 'float' option, allocating a seat in an institute of your higher preference would automatically result in the forfeiture of the seat accepted by you in the earlier round.
7. You must remit the seat acceptance fee only once if offered a seat. Thus, those allotted another seat (because they chose the 'float' option) do not have to pay the seat acceptance fee again.
8. Suppose you have paid the seat acceptance fee and opted for withdrawal after the first round and one day before the announcement of the third round. In that case, you will get a refund after deducting seat cancellation and processing charges of ₹ 5000.
9. Refund requests after the announcement of the third round will not be entertained, and no refund shall be given after that.
10. After the last round of seat allocation is announced, you do not have the option to withdraw an accepted/allotted seat.
11. No refund is given post the 3rd round as there is no option of "float" of the seats after the 3rd round.
