UCEED Eligibility Criteria 2025

To take the UCEED test, you must fulfil the UCEED 2025 eligibility requirements. All candidates, including foreign citizens, must meet the UCEED eligibility standards.

Age limit

  • You should have been born on or after October 1, 2000, if you are a candidate belonging to the OPEN/EWS/OBC-NCL category.
  • You should have been born on or after October 1, 1995, if you are a candidate belonging to the SC, ST, or PwD category. 
  • 5 years of relaxation is given to SC, ST, or PwD category students.

Number of attempts

  • You can attempt UCEED a maximum of two times. These attempts must be taken consecutively.
  • The UCEED score is valid for one year and only for admissions in the same academic year. Students in class 12 in the current academic year can also apply.

Qualifying examination and UCEED qualifying marks

  • You should have passed all subjects in the qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent) in 2024 OR you should be appearing for the qualifying examination for the first time in 2025 to be eligible for attempting UCEED 2025.
  • You will be eligible irrespective of your stream as students from ALL STREAMS (Science, Commerce, and Arts and Humanities) are eligible in 3 campuses taking UCEED scores.
  • Criteria for Foreign Nationals - Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and People of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, are regarded in the Open category and will not be given any special consideration. The above criteria apply "totally" to all candidates, including international citizens.

Institute-Specific UCEED Eligibility Criteria

In addition to the eligibility criteria mentioned above, the participating institutes have their own eligibility conditions as given below -

  • Science stream: Candidates from the scientific stream who have taken Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as subjects are eligible to apply to all five schools.
  • Non-Science stream: Candidates from other fields (arts, business, and science without mathematics, physics, or chemistry) may apply to IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Delhi.
  • IIT Guwahati, IIITDM takes only science students.

UCEED List of Qualifying Exams 2025

UCEED entrance exam eligibility requirements differ for Indian and Foreign nationals with respect to the qualifying examination being considered. A list for each has been given below:

For Indian Nationals

The qualifying exams that fit the UCEED eligibility criteria for Indian nationals has been listed below. 

  • The final examination of the 10+2 system is organized or recognized by the Central or State Board or by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • The Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
  • Senior Secondary School Examination organized by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of 5 subjects.
  • Intermediate or two-year Pre-university examination organized by a recognized Board or University by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • H.S.C. vocational examination.
  • A Diploma recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or a State Board of Technical Education of at least 3 years duration. (Please note that this particular qualifying exam may not meet the eligibility criteria of the institute you're applying to. Make sure you check the criteria in advance.)

For Foreign Nationals

Below is the UCEED List of qualifying tests for foreign nationals meeting the eligibility criteria of the UCEED 2025 exam.

  • Any public school, board, or university examination in India or a foreign country is recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge, or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) Level.
  • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

There are two important points to note in this regard:

  1. If you're a candidate who has completed their Class XII (or equivalent) exam outside India or from a Board not mentioned above, you need to produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities stating that the examination you have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination.

  2. If the Class XII exam is not a public examination, you should have already passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) exam before appearing for UCEED.
