Which private colleges accept UCEED scores? Apart from the IITs, IIT Bombay names a set of official result-sharing institutes - established private and deemed universities that admit B.Des students using UCEED scores.

For the current cycle these include BITS Design School, FLAME University, Mahindra University, CEPT University, the Institute of Design at Nirma University, ATLAS University, Avantika University, Bennett University, WUD, Parul University, Anant National University and Delhi Technological University, among others.

The one thing to remember- these private universities are not part of IIT Bombay's joint counselling. You apply to each one separately, on its own portal and deadline - and many add a portfolio review, studio test, or interview on top of your UCEED score.

A strong score opens the door; each door has its own key.

Key Highlights: Private Colleges Accepting UCEED Score 2027

  • Exam & conductor: UCEED entrance exam 2027, conducted by IIT Bombay
  • Who accepts it besides IITs: official result-sharing institutes (private & deemed universities)
  • Admission route: separate application to each college - no common UCEED counselling
  • Extra steps: many colleges require a portfolio or interview
  • Joint counselling (₹60,000 GEN / ₹15,000 SC-ST-PwD fee, five rounds): applies to IITs + IIITDM Jabalpur only, not private universities
  • Score validity: 1 year, for that year's admissions only
  • UCEED 2027 exam date: 17 January 2027 (to be confirmed by IIT Bombay)

Eligibility Criteria for Private Universities Accepting UCEED Scores 2024

What is a UCEED result-sharing institute?

A result-sharing institute is a college - usually a private or deemed university - that IIT Bombay officially permits to use UCEED results for its own B.Des admissions. It receives your UCEED result but runs its own selection and counselling. You apply to it directly, separately from the IIT process.

IIT Bombay publishes the official list of result-sharing institutes each year at uceed.iitb.ac.in.

IIT B.Des vs Private Universities via UCEED

  • Admission: IITs → single joint counselling by IIT Bombay (5 rounds). Private universities → separate application to each.
  • Selection: IITs → UCEED rank only. Private → UCEED score + often portfolio/interview.
  • Seats: IITs → ~245 B.Des seats total. Private → varies by college.
  • Fees (indicative): IITs → roughly ₹2–3 lakh/year. Private → often ₹3–6 lakh/year (confirm per college). (Verify all fee figures on each institute's official page before publishing as exact numbers.)

Do private universities need a portfolio if I have a UCEED score?

Often, yes. Many result-sharing institutes use UCEED to shortlist and then ask for a portfolio, studio test, or interview. A UCEED rank strengthens your application but rarely guarantees a seat on its own at private universities.

Admission Process for UCEED 2027 - IITs vs Private Institutes

IIT Bombay has released a notice stating that the above listed private universities accept UCEED scores for admissions into various design programs.

Private universities that accept UCEED scores are result-sharing institutes - they use your UCEED rank to shortlist, but they are not part of IIT Bombay's joint counselling. You must apply to each one separately, on its own portal, by its own deadline, and many add a portfolio review, studio test, or interview.

The centralized Joint Seat Allocation (with the ₹60,000 GEN / ₹15,000 SC-ST-PwD seat-acceptance fee and five allotment rounds) applies only to the IITs and IIITDM Jabalpur.

Factors Affecting Admission in Private Design Colleges Based on UCEED Scores:

UCEED seat allotment in private design colleges will be based on the following -

  • Merit Rank in UCEED 2027
  • Reservation Category
  • Available Seat During Seat Allocation
  • Preferred University of the Candidates

How Do Private Universities Admit Students Through UCEED?

Unlike the IITs, private (result-sharing) universities don't use a common counselling. Each one runs its own admission using your UCEED score. Here's the typical journey:

Step

Stage

What You Do

Key Points

1

Appear for UCEED

Take the UCEED exam conducted by IIT Bombay

A valid score is your entry ticket to result-sharing institutes

2

Get your scorecard

Download your UCEED score/rank once results are declared

Score is valid for 1 year only, for that year's admissions

3

Shortlist universities

Pick colleges from IIT Bombay's official result-sharing list

Match by specialization, fees, location and portfolio culture

4

Apply to each separately

Register on each university's own portal and fill its form

There is no common form - every college is a separate application

5

Pay each application fee

Pay the application fee for every university you apply to

Fees and deadlines differ college to college - track each one

6

Clear the extra round

Attend portfolio review / interview if required

Many private universities add this on top of your UCEED score

7

Check the merit list

The university releases its own merit list / offer

Selection = UCEED score + its internal evaluation

8

Accept the offer

Confirm your seat and pay the admission/seat-confirmation fee

Paid directly to the college, not to IIT Bombay

9

Verify & enroll

Submit documents and complete admission formalities

Carry Class XII marksheet, UCEED scorecard, ID and category proof

Fees Range: IITs vs Private Universities

This is where the IIT-vs-private decision often gets made, so here's the honest picture.

IITs (via UCEED joint counselling)

Private / result-sharing universities

Typical B.Des fee

≈ ₹2–3 lakh per year (~₹8-12 L total)

≈ ₹3-6 lakh per year commonly; premium ones (e.g., FLAME) can reach ₹10-12 L per year

Seat-acceptance fee

₹60,000 (GEN/EWS/OBC-NCL) / ₹15,000 (SC/ST/PwD) - paid to IIT Bombay

Set by each college; paid directly to the UCEED college

Application

One joint counselling (5 rounds)

Separate application to each university

The takeaway: IITs are usually the most affordable and the most competitive. Private universities cost more but offer more seats, more specializations, and a second door if you miss an IIT. A higher fee isn't automatically "better" - weigh it against placements, faculty, and the specialization you actually want.

Cutoff & Rank Context: What Score Do You Actually Need?

A quick reality check so you can aim realistically.

IITs are the tough gate:

For IIT Bombay B.Des, the General-category closing rank sits around 13-15 - extremely competitive. Other IITs (Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Roorkee, Indore, IIITDM Jabalpur) close at somewhat higher (easier) ranks, but all IIT seats are limited to roughly 245 in total.

Private universities are far more flexible:

Most result-sharing institutes do not publish a fixed UCEED cut-off. They treat your UCEED score as one shortlisting signal alongside your portfolio and interview. FLAME University, for example, states plainly that no UCEED score "guarantees" admission, it's one parameter among several.

What this means for you:

If your rank is outside the top few hundred, the IITs may be out of reach - but a mid-range or even modest UCEED score can still open doors at strong private universities, especially if your portfolio is good.

For context: UCEED 2026 Part-A statistics were a mean of ~70.86 with a standard deviation of ~25.77. Part-A qualification simply gets your Part-B evaluated and puts you on the rank list - the admission cut-off (closing rank) is a separate, institute-level number.

Which University Should You Pick? (Mentor's Decision Guide)

Don't just chase brand names. Match the college to you. Here's how a design mentor would think it through:

1. Start with the specialization, not the college

UX, product, communication, interior, and transportation design lead to different design careers. Pick the field first, then find the universities strong in it.

2. Weigh fee against outcome, honestly

A ₹10-lakh-a-year program should show you clear placement and portfolio outcomes to justify it. A ₹3-lakh program with strong industry links can be the smarter ROI. Ask each college for recent placement data, not just a highest-package headline.

3. Judge the portfolio culture

The best design schools push you to build a strong portfolio - that portfolio, not the degree alone, gets you hired. Look at student work online before you decide.

4. Check faculty and studios

Practicing designers as faculty, live industry projects, and real studio/lab access matter more than glossy buildings.

5. Apply to a smart spread

Since every private university admits separately, apply to one or two "reach" names, two or three solid "match" colleges, and one "safe" option. Missing one deadline won't hurt the others.

The one mistake to avoid: treating private universities like an IIT counselling queue. There's no single call letter, you must track each college's form, fee, and deadline yourself. Start right after your UCEED result.

A quick way to shortlist:

If your priority is…

Lean towards…

Lowest fees

Government-aided options (DTU, FDDI) and Gujarat universities

Liberal-arts + design blend

FLAME University

Strong design-school brand

BITS Design School, CEPT, Nirma Institute of Design

UX / interaction focus

Mahindra, Bennett, VIT School of Design

Sustainability / social design

Salary & Placement Reality of Private Universities Accepting UCEED Score 2027

Design pays well when your skills and portfolio are strong. Typical starting salaries by role in India:

Role

Typical starting salary (India)

UI/UX Designer

₹8-15 LPA

Product Designer

₹10-18 LPA

Graphic / Communication Designer

₹5-10 LPA

NOTE: All salary figures are indicative industry ranges and vary by role, city, company and individual skill. Verify current placement data with each institute before publishing exact numbers.

The takeaway:

At the top end (IIT design schools), average packages generally range from about ₹8-23 LPA depending on the institute, with occasional standout offers much higher, and recruiters like Amazon, Adobe, Microsoft, Google, Flipkart and Samsung hiring for UX, product and interaction roles.

At private universities, outcomes vary widely by college and crucially by the individual's portfolio. A strong graduate from a good private design school competes for the same UX/product roles; a weak portfolio struggles regardless of the college name.

The honest bottom line:

In design, your portfolio and skills drive your salary more than your college's brand. Placements are one path, but many design graduates also freelance, start studios, or pursue an M.Des. Choose a university that will genuinely make you a better designer - that's what pays off.

While placements vary across universities, a strong UCEED score can improve your admission prospects- learn how to prepare effectively with our guide on how to prepare for UCEED.

Conclusion

The UCEED examination unlocks the key for many aspirants pursuing design courses from IITs. But these colleges that accept UCEED score offer education almost on the same grounds as IITs. So, considering them in your go-to list is not a bad decision.
