Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay started the online registration for counselling and seat allotment process for providing admission to B.Des programs. This post takes you through detailed information about UCEED Counselling 2021.

UCEED 2021 Counselling Dates

There will be a total of three-seat allotment rounds followed by two supplementary rounds. Check out the table below to know the important events related to the seat allotment.

UCEED Counselling Eligibility Criteria

To apply for admission to the BDes program of the participating institutes, you must fulfill the following criteria in terms of age and qualification. Also, you must have scored above the UCEED Cut Off 2021.

Age limit

  • If you belong to the OPEN/EWS/OBC-NCL category, then you should have been born on or after October 1, 1996, to apply for the counselling.
  • You must have born on or after 01 October 1991 if you belong to the SC, ST, or PwD category. 

Qualification

You are eligible for counselling only if you have obtained a rank in the UCEED 2021 exam.

Qualifying examination

You should have passed all subjects in the 10+2 qualifying examination in 2020 or 2021. If you have appeared for the first time in the qualifying examination in 2019 or earlier then you are NOT eligible for counselling.

  • You can apply to IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, and IIITDM Jabalpur if you are from the Science Stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths as subjects.
  • You are eligible to apply to IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad, and IIITDM Jabalpur if you belong to Science without Maths or Physics or Chemistry, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities stream.

If you are appearing for the qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent) in 2021, then you should ensure that 

(a) all parts of your final exams are completed by the date of application for admission, and 

(b) proof of having passed the qualifying examination with required eligibility is submitted by September 30, 2021, to the admitting institute. If a qualifying examination Board awards only letter grades without providing information on the passing grade on the grade sheet, you should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying the passing grade and upload it along with the grade sheet. 

Registration Process for UCEED 2021 Counselling and Seat Allotment

You can register yourself to participate in the counselling process for the BDes program after the declaration of the UCEED Result 2021. Admission will be based on the rank secured by you in the UCEED 2021 Merit List. You can follow the procedure mentioned below to register for UCEED Counselling 2021.

Step 1- Application Form

  • You can apply for admission to the BDes program at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, and IIITDM Jabalpur for the academic year 2021- 2022 only if you qualify in the UCEED 2021.
  • There will be a common application form for admissions to the respective BDes programs. The UCEED Office, IIT Bombay will process the common application form and carry out the joint seat allocation process.
  • The common application form will be available through the IIT Bombay Admissions Portal. The link for the same shall be available on the official website (www.uceed.iitb.ac.in). 
  • You will be able to fill in particulars and select institutes of your choice by indicating the order of preference.

Step 2 -Upload Supporting Documents

  • You have to upload scanned copies of your signature, UCEED mark sheet, photograph, other educational documents, caste certificates (SC/ST/OBC-NCL Certificate, PwD Certificate, and OCI/PIO Card), etc for processing your application.
  • After uploading of documents, click on the 'Submit button.

Step 3 - Paying Processing Fee 

  • Now, you will have to pay the registration fee of ₹2000 after completing all the details.
  • The registration fee for UCEED 2021 counselling can be paid through online mode i.e net banking, debit card, credit card.

Step 4 - Updating Information

  • Seat allocation will be based on the All India Rank (merit order), reservation category, and seat availability in each institute at the time of seat allocation. 
  • You will be able to edit your application form, including the order of preference of institutes, and resubmit it, till the closing date of the application period. 
  • However, after the closing date, all institute choices and information filled in the applications are treated as FINAL. Requests for ANY changes in the application will be strictly NOT entertained.

UCEED Counselling and Seat Allotment Rules

  • Conducting body will schedule three rounds of seat allocation. However, once the seats are filled, the seat allocation process will be closed. 
  • Seats will be provisionally allotted based on your UCEED rank, category, and choice of institutes. You will be sent provisional allotment letters via your registered email and will be directed to an online payment system to remit the seat acceptance fee if you get selected in the counselling.

The acceptance fee is as follows:

  • If you do not remit the seat acceptance fee before the given deadline or decline the admission, your application will stand cancelled. These vacant seats will be filled during the subsequent rounds of seat allotment. 
  • If you are allotted your FIRST choice of the institute, you can either ACCEPT (‘freeze’) the choice or DECLINE the offer. If you choose to DECLINE the offer, you will NOT be considered for subsequent rounds. 
  • If you are allotted your SECOND/THIRD/FOURTH choice of the institute, you can opt to either ACCEPT (‘freeze’) the choice or ACCEPT WITH THE OPTION TO BE CONSIDERED FOR UPWARD MOVEMENT (‘float’) the choice for the subsequent round(s), if any, of the joint seat allocation. 
  • If you choose the ‘freeze’ option, it means you have ACCEPTED the offer and does not wish to participate in further rounds of seat allocation. You will NOT be considered in subsequent rounds of admission. 
  • If you choose the ‘float’ option, it means you have ACCEPTED the offer and has indicated that, if admission to an institute of your higher preference is offered, you will accept it. Else, you will continue with the currently accepted institute. 
  • If you choose the ‘float’ option, allocation of a seat in an institute of your higher preference would automatically result in the forfeiture of the seat accepted by you in the earlier round. 
  • You have to remit the seat acceptance fee only once if you are offered a seat. Thus, those who are allotted another seat (because they chose the ‘float’ option) do not have to pay the seat acceptance fee again. 
  • If you have paid the seat acceptance fee and opts for withdrawal after the first round and one day before the announcement of the third round will get a refund after deducting seat cancellation and processing charges of ₹ 5000 (Rupees five thousand only). 
  • Refund requests after the announcement of the third round will not be entertained and no refund shall be given thereafter. 
  • You do not have an option to withdraw an accepted/allotted seat after the announcement of the last round of seat allocation. 
  • No refund is given post the 3rd round as there is no option of “float” of the seats after the 3rd round.

Reporting at the Allotted College after UCEED Counselling

After the completion of the UCEED counselling and seat allotment process, you will have to visit your allotted college to complete all the admission formalities. Their original documents will be verified in the college. If any discrepancy is found at the time of admission, then the admitting institute will reserve the right to cancel the admission.

UCEED Supplementary Round

If a vacancy remains after the third round of allotment, additional rounds of allotment may be held, depending on seat availability and the willingness of the participating institute. This choice is only open if you choose the “FLOAT” option. This supplementary round will be communicated to you via email and SMS.

What is “Freeze” and “Float” option in UCEED Counselling?

Candidates can choose float and freeze options to accept or float their allotted seat in UCEED Counselling 2020. Candidates that have got their first preference can freeze/Accept their seat and thereafter they will not be eligible for further rounds of counselling.

Candidates that are not satisfied with the seat allotted to them and wish to take part in further rounds of counseling can select the float option.

Note:-

For candidates who choose the ‘float’ option, allocation of a seat in an institute of his/her higher preference would automatically result in the forfeiture of the seat accepted by him/her in the earlier round.
