NIFT Counselling 2022

National Institute of Fashion Technology will conduct the online registration and seat allotment process of NIFT counselling. To secure a place at universities accepting exam results, all applicants who passed the NIFT entrance 2021 procedure must participate in the NIFT counselling process.

The NIFT counselling and seat allotment process will be performed in two rounds. The registration for counselling for round 2 will begin on August 3rd and end on August 6th. Prior to that, the list of vacant NIFT seats will be displayed on the official website on August 2. 

NIFT counselling for round 1 admissions began on July 14th and ended on July 29th. 

Candidates can register for the NIFT 2021 counselling and seat allotment process by following the process mentioned in the article. Seat allocation will be done based on the Candidate's NIFT rank, category, and choice of the institute.

  • Only the candidates that have scored above the NIFT 2021 Cutoff will be eligible to apply for the Counselling process.

Qualified Candidates will be asked to fill out their preference of institutes among 3547 for both UG and PG programmes, which is tabulated below according to different NIFT Campuses.

  • Candidates will have to select the "Freeze" or "float" option to select their preferred choice of Institute. 
  • Candidates will be sent provisional admission confirmation to their registered email if they freeze the allotted seat at the time of counselling and seat allotment of NIFT 2021.

NIFT Counselling Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the counselling procedure of the BDes programme of the participating institutes, an applicant is required to fulfill the following criteria mentioned below:-. 

Age limit: 

  • If the candidate belongs into the OPEN/EWS/OBC-NCL category, he or she must have been born on or after October 1, 1996, and on or after October 1, 1991, if they belong into the SC, ST, or PwD category.

NIFT Qualification:

  • The candidate should have qualified, i.e., obtained a rank in NIFT 2021. 

Qualifying Examination: 

  • candidates should have passed all subjects in the 10+2 qualifying examination in 2020 or 2021. Those who took their qualifying test for the first time in 2019 or before are ineligible.
  • Candidates from the Science Stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths as subjects are eligible to apply for Bachelor of Fashion Technology and Bachelor of Design. 
  • Candidates from any other field (Science without Math, Physics, or Chemistry, Commerce, or Arts & Humanities) are able to apply for a Bachelor of Design.
  • Candidates taking their qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent) in 2021 should ensure that 

(a) all sections of their final examination are completed before the date of application for admission, and

(b) proof of having passed the qualifying examination with required eligibility is submitted to the admitting institute.If a qualifying examination Board only awards letter grades and does not include information on the passing grade on the grade sheet, the applicant should get a certificate from the Board indicating the passing grade and upload it with the grade sheet.

NIFT Reservation of Seats

The reservation of seats for NIFT falling under various categories is as follows:

  • For Candidates belonging to SC, 15% of seats are reserved.
  • For Candidates belonging to ST, 7.5% of seats are reserved.
  • For Candidates belonging to OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), 27% of seats are reserved.
  • For Candidates belonging to a Differently Abled Person, 5% of seats are reserved. Horizontal reservation for differently-abled people (40 per cent or more handicapped) across all categories, including SCs, STs, OBCs, Non-Creamy, and General. Campus and programs will be assigned on a rotating basis at the discretion of NIFT.
  • For Candidates belonging to Foreign Nationals/SAARC/NRI, 5 (supernumerary) seats each at NIFT Campuses Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Raebareli & Srinagar (J&K) and 3 (supernumerary) seats each at Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Patna, and Shillong are reserved. State Domicile, 7 seats will be available on each campus, of which 3 will be supernumerary. The 7 NIFT campuses are located at Patna, Kangra, Kannur, Bhopal, Shillong, Bhubaneswar, and Jodhpur. And 13 seats to be offered at NIFT Srinagar

NIFT 2021 Instructions for Counselling and Seat Allotment Registration

After the declaration of the NIFT 2021 Result, qualified candidates can register themselves to participate in the counselling process for the BDes programme admissions. Admission will be based on the rank secured by the candidate in the NIFT 2021 Merit List. Follow the procedure mentioned below to register for NIFT Counselling 2021.

Step 1- Registration

  • Candidates need to register themself on the official NIFT website 
  • Form no. and DOB need to be filled for registration, After that all the necessary credentials along with Domicile state and contact details need to be filled
  • Once the registration is completed confirmation mail will be sent on the registered email-id 
  • DOB, email- id and password filled at the time of registration will be used to login to complete the registration.

Step 2 -Uploading Supporting Documents

After registration candidates need to log in to their account and upload required documents.

  • For processing their application candidates will have to upload scanned copies of their signature, NIFT mark sheet, photograph, other educational documents, caste certificates (SC/ST/OBC-NCL Certificate, PwD Certificate, and OCI/PIO Card), etc.
  • After completing the uploading of documents, the next step is to click on the 'Submit' tab.

Step 3 - Online Payment of Complete Admission Fee

  • After successful registration and uploaded documents are processed candidates need to pay the admission fees.
  • The Payment for admission fee for NIFT 2021 can be paid through online mode i.e net banking, debit card, credit card, wallet or UPI

Step 4 - Verification 

  • After successful payment application will be sent for verification to NIFT
  • Once the application is processed and verified, candidates will be provided with a slot for counselling with a respected date and further instructions.
  • Zoom meeting links will be sent to the verified candidates.

Step 5 - Seat Allotment Request

  • NIFT officials will show the verified candidates with seat matrix as per their choice, Once the candidate confirms officials about their final choice seat will be allotted for that candidate and sent further for approval
  • After approval seats will be finally allotted to the candidate
  • Candidates can download allotment letters from the registration portal.

NIFT Counselling 

  • Seats will be provisionally allotted based on the applicant’s NIFT rank, category, and choice of institutes. Selected candidates will receive provisional allocation letters via email and will be routed to an online payment mechanism to pay the Seat Acceptance Fee.
  • If the selected candidates do not remit the seat acceptance fee before the given deadline or decline the admission, their application will stand cancelled. These vacant seats will be filled during the subsequent rounds of seat allotment. 
  • If an applicant is allotted his/her FIRST choice of the institute, the candidate can either ACCEPT (‘freeze’) the choice or DECLINE the offer. If the candidate chooses to DECLINE the offer, he/she will NOT be considered for subsequent rounds. 
  • If the candidate chooses the ‘freeze’ option, it means he/she has ACCEPTED the offer and does not wish to participate in further rounds of seat allocation. Such candidates will NOT be considered in subsequent rounds of admission. 
  • If the candidate chooses the ‘float’ option, it means he/she has ACCEPTED the offer and has indicated that, if admission to an institute of his/her higher preference is offered, they will accept it. Else, they will continue with the currently accepted institute. Such candidates will be considered in subsequent rounds of admission. 
  • For candidates who choose the ‘float’ option, allocation of a seat in an institute of his/her higher preference would automatically result in the forfeiture of the seat accepted by him/her in the earlier round. 
  • Candidates offered seats have to remit the seat acceptance fee only once. Thus, candidates who are allotted another seat (because they chose the ‘float’ option) do not have to pay the seat acceptance fee again. 
  • For candidates who accept offered seats, the seat acceptance fee will be adjusted against the institute fees of the admitting institute at the time of joining. For candidates who decline the offered seat after remitting the seat acceptance fee, the refund of the seat acceptance fee will be governed by the policies of the 

NIFT Counselling Second round

Conducting body will schedule two rounds of seat allocation. However, once the seats are filled, the seat allocation process will be closed. All the candidates cannot apply for the second counselling round.

  • Candidates Who have taken Admission in 1st counselling round and wish to upgrade the allotted course and campus can sit for 2nd round.
  • Candidates who applied for 1st round but due to some reason did not attend the counselling.
  • Candidates who participated in the 1st round but were not interested in the college or course allotted during the 1st round.
  • Candidates who registered for 1st round but their counselling was cancelled due to non-availability of documents on a date.
  • Candidates who qualified for the 1st round but couldn't register themselves.
  •  Candidates who got admission in the 1st round and have withdrawn admission before 2nd august( display of vacant seats for round 2) 
  • For participating in the 2nd round of counselling candidates need to re-register and pay a non-refundable online payment of 5000.

  • Self‐Attested copy of 12th class mark sheet or Affidavit if result not declared by board Mandatory (provisional admission given in case of affidavit)

  • Self‐Attested copy of PWD certificate
  • Self‐Attested copy of OBC (NC) certificate in the prescribed format (Certificate Issued not earlier than 1st April 2020)

Reporting at the allotted College after NIFT Counselling 

After the completion of the NIFT counselling and seat allotment process, candidates will have to visit their allotted college to complete all the admission formalities.

Their original documents will be verified in the college. If any discrepancy is found at the time of admission, then the admitting institute will reserve the right to cancel the admission of that candidate.

What is the “Freeze” and “Float” option in NIFT Counselling?

Candidates can choose float and freeze options to accept or float their allotted seat in NIFT Counselling. Candidates that have got their first preference can freeze/Accept their seat and thereafter they will not be eligible for further rounds of counselling.

Candidates that are not satisfied with the seat allotted to them and wish to take part in further rounds of counseling can select the float option.

How to withdraw my name from the NIFT Counselling and withdraw my money back?

For withdrawal and refund candidate need to apply online only through portal 

  • If applied before commencement of 2nd round of counselling, full fee except registration fee will be reimbursed to those candidates.
  • There will be only two rounds of counselling; seats left by candidates in the first round would be available for admission in the second round. As a result, applicants who withdraw after the NIFT-determined deadlines will be reimbursed just the Security Deposit.
