NIFT Eligibility Criteria 2022

The National Institute of Fashion Technology has set certain eligibility criteria that need to be fulfilled by all the aspirants applying for the NIFT 2022 Exam. This post takes you through the complete details regarding NIFT Eligibility Criteria 2022.

  • Through NIFT, B.Des and B.F Tech programs are offered under undergraduate programs and M.Des, MFM, M.F Tech programs are offered under postgraduate programs.
  • To apply for both UG and PG programs, your age should not exceed 24 years as of 01 August 2022 and you should have completed the 12th standard from any recognized board.

NIFT UG Eligibility Criteria 2022

Any candidate who will fulfill the prescribed age limit and educational qualification can apply for the NIFT UG Programs. B. Des and B. F Tech are the two courses that are offered through NIFT 2022. Nationality

  • Citizens of India (or)
  • Foreign Nationals (whether residing in India or abroad) (or)
  • Citizens of India holding an Indian passport and have temporarily immigrated to another country for six months or for work, residence or any other purpose can apply for the exam

Age Limit

Your age should be less than 24 years as of 01 August 2022. However, the upper age limit will be relaxed up to 5 years for SC, SC, and PwD categories.

Educational Qualification for B.Des Course

  • You must have passed the 12th standard from any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi  (or)
  • You should have a passing grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects (or)
  • If you have a 3 or 4 years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education, then you are eligible to apply for the exam  (or)
  • Aspirants who have taken the General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/ Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB) are eligible  (or)
  • If you have taken any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to the 12th standard are eligible.

NIFT PG Courses Eligibility 2022

NIFT Eligibility for M. Des

Age Limit

As per the notification, there are no upper age limit criteria to apply for the Master of Design Program. However, your minimum age should be 20 years to apply for this program.

Educational Qualification for M. Des

  • You can apply if you have an undergraduate degree in any discipline from any Institute / University recognized by law in India (or)
  • You must hold a minimum of three years undergraduate diploma certificate from NIFT/NID.

NIFT Eligibility for MFM

Here are the detailed eligibility criteria for the Master of Fashion Management program.

Age Limit

Your minimum age should be 20 years as of 01 August 2022 in order to be eligible for the Master of Fashion Management program.

Educational Qualification for MFM

  • You must hold a minimum of 3 years undergraduate diploma certificate from NIFT/NID if you are willing to apply for the Master of Fashion Management program (or)
  • If you have an undergraduate degree in any discipline from any Institute / University recognized by law in India, you can apply for the exam.

NIFT Eligibility for M. F Tech

There is an eligibility criterion that you need to fulfill to apply for the Master in Fashion Technology program. Go through the required age limit and educational qualification to apply for the M.F Tech program.

Age Limit

You must make a note that there is no upper age limit for the M.F Tech program. However, your minimum age should be 20 years to apply for the Master in Fashion Technology program.

Educational Qualification for M.F Tech

  • You should have completed B.FTech. from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) or 
  • B.E / B.Tech. from any Institute / University recognized by law in India to apply for the Master of Fashion Technology.

NIFT Eligibility for Foreign Nationals/NRI/OCI/SAARC

Foreign Nationals and Non-Resident Indians, who are citizens of India holding an Indian passport and have temporarily immigrated to another country for six months or more for work, residence, or any other purpose can also apply for NIFT 2022.

Age Limit

For UG Program: Your age should be less than 24 years of 01 August 2022. However, you will be provided with 5 years of age relaxation if you belong to the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/ Person with Disability (PWD) categories.

For PG Program: The minimum age should be 20 years and there is no upper age limit criteria to apply for PG programs.

Educational Qualification

  • If you have a degree certificate from a University/Board of any other country, then, you must have obtained an equivalent certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi prior to admission.
  • You have the flexibility to opt for as many SAT/GMAT/GRE tests before 30th April 2022. However, the highest score among these tests will be taken into consideration for allowing a seat.
  • Note that the GRE/GMAT/SAT scores should have been declared after 01 January 2019 and should be received by the Institute (NIFT) latest by 30th April 2022.

The program and campus will be allotted based on the merit list drawn as per the scores obtained by you in the following examinations.

NIFT Admission Eligibility for State Domicile

  • You should have a certificate from the concerned school/college of the particular state.
  • The address of the school attended by you regularly will determine your domicile status if you have obtained the degree certificate through distance learning mode.
  • State Domicile Preferential Seats will be offered to candidates who belong to the following 9 states.

NIFT Reservation of Seats

A certain percentage of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC (Non-Creamy)/GEN-EWS/ Person With Disability (PWD)/ Foreign Nationals /SAARC/ NRI/ OCI/ State Domicile, in each program.

SC/ST Category

You have to produce a Caste/Tribe certificate from the Competent Authority of the respective States/Union Territories/ National Commission of Tribes if you belong to SC/St category.

OBC (Non-Creamy) Category

You would have to substantiate the caste and non-creamy layer requirement if you belong to OBC (non-creamy) category.  Also, you have to produce a caste certificate from the Competent Authority certifying that they belong to the non-creamy layer. 

  • The OBC(Non-Creamy) certificate should clearly mention that you belong to the non-creamy layer.
  • The caste mentioned in the OBC (Non-Creamy) certificate should find mention in the Central list of OBCs available at http:// ncbc.nic.in/backward-classes/index.html
  • In the case of a married woman applying under the reserved category, you have to produce the caste certificate by your own name.
  • Note that the certificate in the name of husband/mother/ father is not acceptable.
  • You are not entitled to apply under the reserved category OBC(NC) if you belong to the Creamy Layer of OBC.

General (Economically Weaker Section)

The benefit of reservation will be given only to those General category candidates who satisfy the condition given in the OM No. 20013/01/2018-BC-II dated 17 January 2019 issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, Government of India.

  • The benefit of reservation will be given for only candidates who will produce an Income & Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority (or)
  • Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Presidency Magistrate (or)
  • District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/ Collector/ Deputy Commissioner/Additional Deputy Commissioner/ 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate/ Sub-Divisional Magistrate/ Taluka Magistrate/ Executive Magistrate/ Extra Assistant Commissioner (or)
  • Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate and/ or his family normally resides.

Persons with Disability (PWD)

You should have a certificate of Disability if you belong to PwD category and the certificate should be issued by a medical authority designated under sub-section (1) of section 57 of the act and rules 17 (a) and (b) of G.S.R. 591(E).

  • Note that you have to produce the original certificate of disability both at the time of counselling and at the time for admission to the Institute.
  • It is mandatory to attend the counselling for evaluation for the PwD candidates.
  • The course will be allotted to you only after assessing your capabilities.
