NIFT Exam Pattern 2023

The National Institute of Fashion Technology conducts the NIFT entrance examination every year for admissions to B.Des, BF.Tech, M.Des, MFM and MF.Tech programs.
The exam is designed to test an applicant's skills and basic knowledge of fashion.
The article takes you through exam patterns, weightage for each section, and different stages of the exam.
NIFT 2023 Exam Pattern
- NIFT offers admission for UG and PG courses that includes B.Design, B.Fashion Technology, M.Design, and M.Fashion Technology.
- NIFT entrance exam paper pattern and the syllabus varies for each course. Hence, calling you to go through the NIFT Syllabus
- Tests to attend for each course are as follows:
- For B.Des, you must appear for CAT, GAT, and Situation Test.
- For M.Des, you must appear for CAT, GAT, and GD/ PI.
- For B.F.Tech, you must for GAT.
- For M.F.Tech and M.F.M applicants, the selection process will be GAT and GD/ PI.
- You will be called in for the final admission round only after qualifying all the stages.
- Each stage of the NIFT exam will be offline. You will need to appear for a paper-based test at the respective exam center which will be provided on the admit card.
NIFT CAT Exam Pattern 2023
- The first stage of the selection process for B.Des and M.Des is the Creative Ability Test (CAT). The main aim of this test is to judge the intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development, and design ability of the applicant.
- Through the CAT exam, the creative and innovative use of color and illustration skills will be tested.
- The total time duration to complete CAT is 3 hours.
- There will be 3 drawing questions.
- The total marks for the creative ability test are 100.
Note: If anyone tries to disclose their identity by writing any personal details or placing any identification mark on the answer sheet shall be considered ‘DISQUALIFIED’ and their results shall not be declared.

NIFT GAT Exam Pattern 2023
After qualifying for the creative ability test, you will be shortlisted for General Ability Test. This is an offline mode of exam for which the detailed NIFT Exam Pattern is explained below course-wise:
NIFT B.Des Exam Pattern 2023
- NIFT B.Des entrance exam pattern includes a total of 100 multiple choice questions for 100 marks.
- It is an offline mode of exam conducted for 120 minutes.
- There is a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer.

NIFT Entrance Exam Pattern for Situation Test 2023
After the written test, you will be shortlisted for the Situation Test. This is a hands-on test to evaluate your skills for material handling and innovative ability in a given situation with a given set of materials.
- Make sure to use only the given materials. No additional materials will be provided or allowed.
- The model will be evaluated based on various parameters by the authorities.
- These parameters will be checked along with a write-up explaining the concept of the constructed model.
- As the mode of exam in NIFT is English, you need to prepare the write-up in English.
- No marks will be given for writeup in any other language.
- The use of outside/additional material in making the model/ design is not permitted.
- The evaluation of the test will be done by the Jury on the spot. The model will not be preserved for future reference.

NIFT Group Discussion & Personal Interview for PG programs
Qualifiers of written exams for Masters's Programs will be called for Group Discussion and interviews. The Group Discussion and Interview will be based on a case study.
Group Discussion
The GD would be for 15-20 minutes discussion around a case study assigned, on which a panel of experts will assess you on various parameters including:
- Conceptual clarity
- Knowledge of the topic assigned
- The contribution made to the topic
- Interpersonal skills
- Ability to generate new ideas
- Problem-solving approach
- Leadership qualities
- Effective communication
Personal Interview
In the interview, you will be accessed on various parameters by the panel of experts that includes
- Career orientation
- Aptness for the course
- Overall personal achievements in academics and co-curricular activities
- Communication
- General awareness and aptitude, creative and lateral thinking
