NIFT Situation Test PYQ PDF (2025–2017) + Sample Models & Answers

The NIFT Situation Test is a 2-hour, hands-on model-making round for B.Des candidates shortlisted after the written exam (GAT + CAT).

You're given a fixed set of materials and a theme, and must build a 3D model plus a short concept note in English. It carries 20% weightage in the final B.Des merit (CAT 50%, GAT 30%). Models are judged on creativity, concept clarity, material handling, neatness and presentation - a clear idea, cleanly executed, scores higher than a complex but messy one.

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) conducts the NIFT entrance exam for admission into UG and PG programs. The NIFT exam has two stages:

• Written Exam: This includes the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Ability Test (GAT).
• NIFT Situation Test Pyq: A practical assessment conducted after clearing the written exam.

Candidates who clear both stages will be eligible for admission to various NIFT campuses across India.

What is NIFT Situation Test 2027?

The NIFT Exam includes a situation test for aspirants who wish to secure a seat in the B.Des programs at NIFT. It is designed to assess a candidate's conceptualization and creative skills before admitting them to the design programs. 

As part of the situation test NIFT, aspirants are given some materials, and they have to create a model and accompany it with a caption and a short write-up explaining the ideation, concept, and execution process of the 3D NIFT situation test models made by the students.

Only B.Des (and B.F.Tech applicants who also opt for B.Des) take the CAT and Situation Test. B.F.Tech-only admission is based on GAT followed by a Group Discussion/Interview.

NIFT Situation Test PYQ Important Points to Remember

• Candidates for the NIFT 2027 Situation Test must appear at the NIFT exam centre to which they have been assigned.
• To answer the NIFT Situation Test Questions, aspirants must provide a written explanation of the model's construction and their completed model.
• During the NIFT 2027 situation test, a candidate's material handling and creative abilities are assessed using a given set of materials in an assigned circumstance.
• Candidates must download the call letter for the NIFT scenario test after booking a time slot and providing the credentials to select a test centre location.
• No additional or outside materials will be allowed throughout the model-making process.
• Students must only use English when describing the model, and candidates may not use any other language to express the subject.
• Candidates will be disqualified if they explain their NIFT situation test models in a language other than English.
• The jurors will make their own decisions about the candidates.

How to Approach the Situation Test in the Exam Hall

With ~2 hours on the clock: spend the first 10-15 minutes planning (read the theme, sketch the idea, sort materials), about 80-90 minutes building, and the final 15 minutes on finishing and your concept note. Don't start cutting before you've decided what you're making.
