President of India lays foundation stone of super specialty hospital of BRS Health & Research Institute at Udupi
The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee laid the foundation stone of a Super Specialty Hospital of BRS Health & Research Institute at Udupi, Karnataka today (June 18, 2017).
● Speaking on the occasion, the President said that while advances in modern medicine and investment in health infrastructure have made many diseases such as cholera, small pox, plague, tuberculosis etc. curable and eradicated others, yet there remains a huge gap in our country in terms of access to medicine and health care.
● This brings us to the larger and more serious question of the skewed nature of health care in India – both in terms of infrastructure and personnel.
● Against the international norm of one doctor per thousand population, we have one doctor for 1700 people in our country. The ratio thus stands at 0.7:1000.
● The situation is all the more alarming in the vast hinterland of rural India.
Mahesh Sharma launches implementation of ‘National Mission on Cultural Mapping of India’ from Govardhan Block, Mathura
Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State (Independent charge) for Culture & Tourism launched the implementation of the ‘‘National Mission on Cultural Mapping of India’ at Goverdhan Block, Mathura District, Uttar Pradesh in a day long, Block level mega talent hunt programme (Sanskritik Pratibha Khoj Samaroh) yesterday.
● Shri Srikant Sharma, Energy Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Ministry’s Senior officials and various renowned artists including Padma, Sangeet Natak Akademi and State Awardees were present.
● This Mission is part of the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ umbrella. Ministry of Culture launched it in the year of commemoration of the birth centenary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, who hailed from Mathura.
● Artists in large number participated in this Block level event where they also registered themselves following which a registration certificate/slip/code was provided to all the artists who registered.
● A stage was provided to the registered artists for performance and displaying their talent. A panel of renowned artists were invited for judging the participants in different art forms.
● Registration was directly on the portal culturalmappingofindia.nic.in. For those artists who, for some reason, could not register themselves and their art forms, enumeration teams had been sent to all the 47 villages of Govardhan Block for geo mapping of artists and their art forms.
● Any person who claims to be an artist can register at the initial level.
Maneka Sanjay Gandhi kickstarts Yoga Day celebrations at anganwadi centres across the country
The Minister of Women and Child Development , Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi kickstarted the International Day of Yoga 2017 celebrations in Anganwadi Centres by taking part in a yoga session with Anganwadi children and the official Mascot Yogiraj of IDY 2017 at an Anganwadi Centre at Peeragarhi in New Delhi today morning.
● About 150 children participated in today’s Yoga awareness and celebration event at the Anganwadi centre .
● The officials of Ministry of Women and Child Development also participated in Yoga sessions enthusiastically .
● Anganwadi centres across the country will be participating in the International Day of Yoga celebrations.
● The Ministry of Women and Child Development has taken up the initiative of imparting awareness about the benefits of yoga to about 100 million beneficiaries through 13.52 lakhs anganwadi centres nationwide.
● Not only this, the children at the Anganwadi centres will also be instructed to practice yoga on a regular basis to ensure a healthier future.
● All the CCIs in the States/UTs have also been instructed to observe this international day for stress free and healthy life.
President of India dedicates the Metro Phase –I Project to the people of Karnataka & Bengaluru
The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee attended a function at Bengaluru for dedication of the Metro Phase –I project to the people of Karnataka and Bengaluru as Chief Guest today (June 17, 2017).
● Speaking on the occasion, the President said that originally known as the Garden City, Bengaluru has slowly transformed itself into the Silicon Valley of India.
● As per global rankings, it has been rated as the most dynamic city of the world ahead even of the Silicon Valley.
● He said that he was happy to dedicate the Metro Phase -I project to the people of the city and Karnataka State.
● The President said that in warming up to and finally adopting Metro as a viable mode of public transport, we in India were late by several decades.
● The first metropolitan railway started in London in the year 1863. By early 20th century, almost entire Europe, North America and countries in South America had metro rail networks in all their large cities.
● We started with the First Metro Network in Kolkata in 1984 and then once we started in Delhi in the year 2000, there was no looking back for Metro in India.
Final raising of Sardar Sarovar Dam cleared by Narmada Control Authority
Final raising of Sardar Sarovar Dam cleared by Narmada Control Authority (NCA) has cleared the final raising of Sardar Sarovar Dam (SSD) in Gujarat by lowering of gates and impounding of water in the reservoir up to its Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of EL 138.68 mts.
● The NCA which met here yesterday under the Chairmanship of Dr. Amarjit Singh, Secretary (WR, RD & GR) considered all aspects of environmental and Resettlement and Rehabilitation (R&R) issues.
● It may be recalled that the last time raising of SSD was cleared on June 12,2014, wherein permission for Phase-I construction of piers, overhead bridge and installation of gates in open or raised position was granted.
● At that time, the effective height of SSD remained at EL 121.92 mts. with backwater levels of EL 134.32 mts. at dam site. With lowering of gates of SSD, the live storage capacity would increase from 1565 to 5740 MCM i.e. by 4175 MCM (267%).
● The clean (hydro-power generation) would increase by present 1300 MW to 1450 MW with increase in annual generation by about 1100 Million Units (i.e. about Rs.400/- crore per annum). In addition, this additional storage would irrigate about 8 lakh hectares. Additionally, about one crore population would get assured drinking water.

The Presidential Election of India will be held on 17 July 2017, as per the announcement made by Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi on 7 June 2017.
● The term of President Pranab Mukherjee will come to an end on 24 July 2017.
● Mukherjee assumed the office of President in July 2012.
● The nominations for Presidential Election will begin from the 14 June 2017 and will end on 28 June 2017.
● This will be followed by the scrutiny of nomination papers that will take place on 29 June 2017.
● The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 1 July 2017.
● The counting of votes will take place on 20 July 2017, if required.

Yeshe Dorjee Thongshi chosen for Bhupen Hazarika Award 2017
Eminent litterateur Yeshe Dorje Thongchi was on 15 June 2017 chosen for the Bhupen Hazarika Award 2017.
● The award will be conferred on Thongchi at a function to be held in Jammu and Kashmir in September 2017 by Pune-based social organization Sarhad.
● Yeshe Dorjee Thongshi belongs to the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.
● He graduated from Cotton College, Guwahati and did his MA from Guwahati University.
● Although his dialect was Sherdukpen, however, he started writing in Assamese.
● His first poem called Jonbaai (The Moon) appeared in an Assamese children’s magazine by the same name in 1967.
● His well-known novels are Mauna Oonth Mukhar Hriday and Sav Kata Manuh.
● His novel Mauna Onth Mukhar Hriday won the Sahitya Akademi award in 2005.
● He joined the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service in 1977 and was elevated to the IAS in 1992.

Pakistan defeat India by 180 runs to lift Champions Trophy title
A fearsome burst of pace bowling from Mohammad Amir consigned India to a horror 180-run defeat at The Oval on Sunday as Pakistan won their maiden ICC Champions Trophy title with plenty to spare.
● Chasing Pakistan’s 338 for four, India went down without a fight as the defending champions lost three in-form batsmen in the first nine overs.
● Hasan ‘bomber’ Ali took three wickets for 19 to polish off the Indian tail. Pakistan won with 117 balls to spare.
● Hardik Pandya’s 43-ball 76 was the lone bright spot in India’s batting, but his run out gave Pakistan an easy passage to victory.
● Mohammad Amir, who reported fit just in time for the mouth-watering final, wiped out the top order with clever use of the seam and length as Pakistan attacked like a pack of hungry dogs.
● Pakistan's Fakhar Zaman scored 114 in the ICC Champions Trophy final against India.

केन्द्रीय संस्कृति और पर्यटन राज्य मंत्री (स्वतंत्र प्रभार) डा महेश शर्मा ने कल उत्तर प्रदेश के मथुरा जिले में गोवर्द्धन ब्लाक में खंड स्तरीय विशाल प्रतिभा खोज कार्यक्रम के उद्घाटन के साथ ही 'भारत के सांस्कृतिक मानचित्रण अभियान' का शुभारंभ किया।
● उत्तर प्रदेश के ऊर्जा मंत्री श्रीयुत श्रीकांत शर्मा, मंत्रालय के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी और पद्म, संगीत नाटक अकादमी के कलाकारों सहित जाने-माने प्रसिद्ध कलाकार और राज्य के पुरस्कार विजेता, इस अवसर पर मौजूद थे। यह अभियान 'एक भारत श्रेष्ठ भारत' कार्यक्रम के बैनर तले शुरू किया गया है।
● संस्कृति मंत्रालय ने इसकी शुरूआत पंडित दीन दयाल उपाध्याय की जन्म सदी वर्ष मनाने के हिस्से के रूप में की थी, जो मथुरा से सम्बद्ध थे।
● खंड स्तरीय इस कार्यक्रम में बड़ी संख्या में कलाकारों ने हिस्सा लिया। उन्होंने अपने को पंजीकृत करते हुए पंजीकरण प्रमाणपत्र/स्लिप/कोड भी प्राप्त किया। पंजीकृत कलाकारों को एक मंच प्रदान किया गया ताकि वे अपनी प्रस्तुती देते हुए अपनी प्रतिभा प्रदर्शित कर सकें।
● विभिन्न कलारूपों में प्रतिभागियों के प्रदर्शन का मूल्यांकन करने के लिए जाने माने कलाकारों को निर्णायकों के पैनल के रूप में आमंत्रित किया गया था। पंजीकरण की सुविधा सीधे पोर्टल culturalmappingofindia.nic.in पर करने की सुविधा प्रदान की गयी।
● जो कलाकार किसी कारणवंश पोर्टल पर स्वयं का और अपनी कला का पंजीकरण नहीं कर पाए थे, उनकी खोज के लिए गोवर्धन ब्लॉक के सभी 47 गांवों में गणनाकारों की टीमें भेजी गयी थीं। कोई भी व्यक्ति जो कलाकार होने का दावा करता हो, वह प्रारंभिक स्तर पर अपना पंजीकरण कर सकता है।

● उन्होंने आज सुबह नई दिल्ली के पीरागढ़ी क्षेत्र में एक आंगनवाडी केन्द्र में बच्चों और अंतराष्ट्रीय योग दिवस-2017 के आकर्षक शुभंकर के साथ योग सत्रों में हिस्सा लिया।
● इस आंगनवाड़ी केन्द्र में योग जागरूकता और योग उत्सव में करीब 150 बच्चों ने हिस्सा लिया। महिला और बाल विकास मंत्रालय के अधिकारियों और कर्मचारियों ने भी योग सत्र में उत्साहपूर्वक हिस्सा लिया।
● देशभर के आंगनवाड़ी केन्द्र अंतर्राष्ट्रीय योग दिवस समारोहों में हिस्सा लेंगे। महिला और बाल विकास मंत्रालय ने देशभर में 13.52 लाख आंगनवाड़ी केन्द्रों के माध्यम से करीब 10 करोड़ लाभार्थियों को योग के फायदों से अवगत कराने का अभियान शुरू किया है।
● इतना ही नहीं आंगनवाड़ी के बच्चों को भी नियमित रूप से योगाभ्यास का महत्व समझाया जायेगा ताकि वे अपने जीवन में योग को अपना सकें।
● आज के कार्यक्रम की खास बात यह रही कि आदम कद शुभंकर, योगीराज ने महिला और बाल विकास मंत्री तथा बच्चों के साथ योगासन किए। योगीराज का डिजाइन आयुष मंत्रालय के अंतर्गत अनुसंधान और प्राकृतिक चिकित्सा परिषद ने तैयार किया है।
राष्ट्रपति ने उडुपी में बीआरएस हेल्थ एंड रिसर्च इंस्टिट्यूट के सुपर स्पेशॅल्टी हॉस्पीटल की आधार शिला रखी
राष्ट्रपति श्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने आज (18 जून, 2017) उडुपी, कर्नाटक में बीआरएस हेल्थ एंड रिसर्च इंस्टिट्यूट के सुपर स्पेशॅल्टी हॉस्पीटल की आधार शिला रखी।
● इस अवसर पर राष्ट्रपति ने कहा कि आधुनिक चिकित्सा के क्षेत्र में प्रगति और स्वास्थ्य क्षेत्र में निवेश की बदौलत हम हैजा, चेचक, प्लेग, क्षयरोग आदि अनेक बीमारियों के उपचार और उन्मूलन में उल्लेखनीय उपलब्धियां हासिल की हैं, फिर भी देश में औषधियों और स्वास्थ्य देखभाल तक पहुंच के संदर्भ में भारी अंतराल है।
● श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि प्रति एक हजार आबादी पर एक डॉक्टर के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मानदंड की तुलना में भारत में प्रति 1700 लोगों पर एक डॉक्टर की व्यवस्था है।
● उन्होंने कहा कि भारत के भीतरी क्षेत्र के गांवों में स्वास्थ्य देखभाल सुविधाओं की स्थिति और भी चिंताजनक है।
● राष्ट्रपति ने इस अस्पताल की स्थापना में डा. बी. आर. शेट्टी और उनकी पत्नी के प्रयासों की सराहना की।
नर्मदा नियंत्रण प्राधिकरण ने सरदार सरोवर बांध की ऊंचाई बढ़ाने के अंतिम प्रस्ताव का अनुमोदन किया ।
नर्मदा नियंत्रण प्राधिकरण (एनसीए) ने गुजरात में सरदार सरोवर बांध (एसएसडी) की ऊंचाई बढ़ाने के प्रस्ताव का अनुमोदन कर दिया है, जिसके अनुसार बांध के प्रवेश द्वारों की ऊंचाई घटाते हुए और जलाशय में और पानी डाल कर इसे पूर्ण जलाशय स्तर यानी 138.68 मीटर ईएल तक ऊंचा उठाया जायेगा।
● डॉ अमरजीत सिंह, सचिव (जल संसाधन, नदी विकास एवं गंगा पुनरुथान मंत्रालय) की अध्यक्षता में कल यहां हुई एनसीए की बैठक में सभी पर्यावरण, पुनर्वास एवं पुनर्स्थापन संबंधी मुद्दों पर विचार किया गया। स्मरणीय है कि पिछली बार 12 जून 2014 एसएसडी की ऊंचाई बढ़ाने की मंजूरी दी गई थी, जिसमें प्रथम चरण के दौरान खंभों के निर्माण, ओवरहेड ब्रिज और प्रवेश द्वारों की संस्थापना की अनुमति दी गई थी।
● उस समय एसएसडी की प्रभावी ऊंचाई 121.92 मीटर ईएल रखी गई थी जिसमें बांध स्थल पर बैक वाटर लेवल 134.32 मीटर ईएल रखा गया था।
● एसएसडी के प्रवेश द्वारों को नीचा रखने से बांध की लाइव स्टोरेज क्षमता 1565 एमसीएम से बढ़कर 5740 एमसीएम हो जाएगी। यानी इसमें 4175 एमसीएम (267 प्रतिशत) बढ़ोतरी होगी। इससे स्वच्छ जल विद्युत उत्पादन वर्तमान 1300 मेगावाट से बढ़कर 1450 मेगावाट हो जाएगा, जिसमें हर वर्ष करीब 1100 मिलियन यूनिट (यानी करीब रुपये 400 /-करोड़ वार्षिक) की वृद्धि होगी।
● इसके अलावा, इस अतिरिक्त जलभंडार से करीब 8 लाख हेक्टेयर जमीन में सिंचाई हो सकेगी। साथ ही करीब एक करोड़ आबादी को सुनिश्चित जलापूर्ति हो सकेगी। यह सर्वविदित है कि सरदार सरोवर परियोजना से गुजरात और राजस्थान वाले सूखे की आशंका वाले और रेगिस्तानी क्षेत्रों की पानी की आवश्यकता की मुख्य रूप से आपूर्ति होगी।
राष्ट्रपति ने मेट्रो चरण-1 परियोजना कर्नाटक और बेंगलूरू की जनता को समर्पित की।
राष्ट्रपति ने आज (17 जून, 2017) बेंगलूरू में आयोजित एक समारोह में मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में हिस्सा जिसमें मेट्रो चरण-1 परियोजना कर्नाटक के लोगों को समर्पित की गई।
● इस अवसर पर उन्होंने कहा कि मूल रूप में गार्डन सिटी के नाम से विख्यात, बेंगलूरू ने अपने को धीरे-धीरे भारत की सिलिकन घाटी में रूपांतरित कर लिया। वैश्विक रैंकिंग के अनुसार इसे दुनिया के सर्वाधिक गतिशील शहर, यहां तक कि सिलिकन वैली से भी अधिक गतिशील शहर का दर्जा मिला है।
● उन्होंने कहा कि मुझे कर्नाटक राज्य के लोगों को मट्रो चरण-1 परियोजना सौंपते हुए अत्यन्त हर्ष अनुभव हो रहा है।
● उन्होंने बताया कि पहली मेट्रोपोलिटन रेलवे सेवा 1863 में लंदन में शुरू हुई थी। इस दृष्टि से देखें तो भारत में मेट्रो सेवा को एक व्यवहार्य विकल्प के रूप में अपनाने में अनेक दशकों का विलम्ब हुआ है।
● 20वीं सदी के प्रारंभ में लगभग समूचे यूरोप, उत्तर अमरीका और दक्षिण अमरीका के सभी बड़े शहरों में मेट्रो का जाल फैल चुका था।
● हमारे यहां प्रथम मेट्रो नेटवर्क 1984 में कोलकाता प्रारंभ हुआ, लेकिन उसके बाद वर्ष 2000 में दिल्ली में मेट्रो सेवा प्रारंभ होने के बाद भारत ने पीछे मुड़कर नहीं देखा।
● राष्ट्रपति ने कहा कि 'नम्मा मेट्रो के पहले चरण में वर्ष 2008 में 42.3 कि.मी. लम्बी रेल परियोजना का निर्माण कार्य शुरू किया गया था और अतीत में विभिन्न चरणों में 31 कि.मी. लाइन पर मेट्रो सेवा प्रारंभ की गई।
● आज अंतिम चरण में 11.3 कि.मी. लाइन पर मेट्रो सेवा के खुल जाने के साथ ही यह परियोजना पूर्ण हो गयी है। इस परियोजना में मुख्य भागीदारी कर्नाटक सरकार, भारत सरकार, जापान इंटरनेशनल काऑपरेशन एजेंसी और फ्रांस की एजेंसे फ्रैंकाइसे द डिवेलप्मेंट की रही है।
● उन्होंने इस बात पर खुशी जाहिर की कि नम्मा मेट्रों के दूसरे चरण का निर्माण कार्य भी जारी है, जिससे इस नेटवर्क में 72 कि.मी. लाइन और जुड़ जायेगी।
चुनाव आयोग ने राष्ट्रपति चुनाव पद हेतु अधिसूचना जारी की
केंद्रीय चुनाव आयोग ने राष्ट्रपति चुनाव हेतु 14 जून 2017 को अधिसूचना जारी कर दी.
● अधिसूचना जारी होने के साथ ही राष्ट्रपति के निर्वाचन प्रक्रिया की औपचारिक शुरुआत हो गई.
● चुनाव आयोग द्वारा राष्ट्रपति एवं उपराष्ट्रपति निर्वाचन अधिनियम 1952 के तहत अधिसूचना जारी होने के तुरंत बाद अनूप मिश्रा को निर्वाचन अधिकारी नियुक्त किया है.
● निर्वाचन अधिकारी अनूप मिश्रा ने राष्ट्रपति चुनाव हेतु नामांकन प्रक्रिया शुरू करने का नोटिस भी जारी कर दिया.
● निर्वाचन अधिकारी अनूप मिश्रा की ओर से जारी नोटिस के अनुसार नामांकन प्रक्रिया का जिक्र करते हुए कहा गया है कि इच्छुक उम्मीदवार आज से 28 जून तक अपने विधिवत भरे हुए नामांकन पत्र जमा करा सकेंगे.
येशे दोरजी थोंग्शी को भुपेन हजारिका अवार्ड के लिए चयनित किया गया
प्रसिद्ध लेखक येशे दोरजी थोंग्शी को 15 जून 2017 को भुपेन हजारिका अवार्ड के लिए चयनित किया गया.
● उन्हें यह पुरस्कार सितंबर 2017 में पुणे आधारित सामाजिक संस्था सरहद द्वारा जम्मू-कश्मीर में एक समारोह के दौरान दिया जायेगा.
● थोंग्शी का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण उपन्यास मौना ओन्थ मुखर हरिदे (मौन होठ, बडबडाता दिल) है जिसे 2005 में साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार प्राप्त हुआ.
● वे अरुणाचल प्रदेश के कमेंग जिले के रहने वाले हैं
● उन्होंने गुवाहाटी के कॉटन कॉलेज से स्नातक की उपाधि प्राप्त की तथा गुवाहाटी यूनिवर्सिटी से ही एमए डिग्री प्राप्त की.

पाकिस्तान ने भारत को हराकर चैंपियंस ट्रॉफी जीती
चैंपियंस ट्रॉफी के फाइनल मुकाबले में पाकिस्तान ने भारत को 180 रन से मात देकर पहली बार चैंपियंस ट्रॉफी खिताब जीता.
● लंदन के ओवल ग्राउंड में 18 जून 2017 को आयोजित किये गये फाइनल मुकाबले में भारत की टीम 158 रन पर ऑल आउट हो गयी.
● भारत ने टॉस जीतकर पाकिस्तान को पहले बल्लेबाजी के लिए आमंत्रित किया. पहले गेंदबाजी करने उतरी टीम इंडिया ने पाकिस्तान को अधिक स्कोर करने से रोकने की भरपूर कोशिश की लेकिन पाकिस्तान ने 50 ओवर में 339 रनों का विशाल स्कोर खड़ा कर दिया.
● लक्ष्य का पीछा करने उतरी टीम इंडिया का आरंभिक बल्लेबाजी क्रम मोहम्मद आमिर की गेंदबाजी के सामने घुटने टेकता नज़र आया. यह पिछले कुछ वर्षों में भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम की सबसे बड़ी हार है. हार्दिक पांड्या ने पाकिस्तानी गेंदबाज़ी का सामना करने की कोशिश की लेकिन कोई भी अन्य भारतीय बल्लेबाज पाकिस्तानी गेंदबाजों के सामने टिक नहीं सका.
● पूरी भारतीय टीम 30.3 ओवर में महज 158 रन पर ढेर हो गई. भारतीय बल्लेबाज कोई साझेदारी नहीं कर सके. आरंभिक और मध्य क्रम के बल्लेबाजी के ढहने के बाद सातवें विकेट के लिए 80 रन की साझेदारी हुई. पांड्या ने 43 गेंद पर शानदार 76 रन की पारी खेली लेकिन वे जड़ेजा के साथ गलतफहमी के कारण रन आउट हो गए.
