Vijay Rupani named new Gujarat Chief Minister

Vijay Rupani will take over as the new chief minister of Gujarat. Nitin Patel will be the deputy chief minister of Gujarat. The oath taking ceremony will take place on Sunday, 7 August, 2016.
•    Rupani was picked by party MLAs at a meeting on Friday. 
•    The meeting saw the participation of BJP president Amit Shah and senior leader Nitin Gadkari as observers.
•    Vijay Rupani is the state president of the BJP and was the minister for transport, water supply, labor and employment in Anandiben's cabinet. 
•    He was elected an MLA for the first time in 2014, winning the Rajkot West seat vacated by Vajubhai Vala. 
•    Rupani was considered the most non-controversial prospect as her successor, and enjoys wide acceptance among party cadre.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal elected as 39th Prime Minister of Nepal

Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Chairperson (CPN-MC) Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' on 4 August 2016 was elected the 39th Prime Minister of Nepal.
•    Pushpa Kamal Dahal had served as the Prime Minister of the country from 2008 to 2009.
•    He led the CPN (M) as it launched a communist insurgency on 13 February 1996. In the ensuing civil war, more than 17000 Nepalese died.
•    He resigned as Prime Minister on 4 May 2009 after his attempt to sack the army chief, General Rookmangud Katawal, was opposed by President Ram Baran Yadav.
•    He is also widely known by his nom de guerre ‘Prachanda’, a name he went by during his guerrilla days.

Senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Rani Singh Nair on 1 August 2016 took over as the Chairperson of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).Nair’s predecessor Atulesh Jindal, who was appointed CBDT chief in February 2016, retired on 31 July 2016.
•    Nair is a 1979-batch IRS officer of the Income Tax cadre.
•    She worked as member (Legislation and Computerisation) at CBDT.
•    She has been instrumental in framing the procedures and protocols that led to the roll-out of the Income Declaration Scheme (IDS) on June 1 2016. The scheme aims at bringing undisclosed income and assets into the tax net.
•    The Central Board of Direct Taxes provides essential inputs for policy and planning of direct taxes in India.
•    It is the policy-making body of the Income Tax Department under the Union Finance Ministry.
•    It is a statutory authority functioning under the Central Board of Revenue Act, 1963.
•    The Chairperson of the CBDT is the senior-most IRS civil servant in the Government of India.
•    The Chairperson of Central Board of Direct Taxes is the ex officio Special Secretary to the Government of India and also cadre controlling authority of the Indian Revenue Service.

India's contestant Rohit Khandelwal won the coveted Mister World 2016 title on 19 July 2016. The grand finale of Mr World 2016 was held at the Southport Theatre & Convention Centre in Southport, U.K.

•    With this, Khandelwal has become the first Indian and Asian to win the Mr World title at the competition.
•    Mr World 2014 Nicklas Pedersen passed on the title to Khandelwal. He also won a cash prize of 50000 US dollar.
