Vaishnav Hegde Wins Gold in South Asian Aquatic Meet

Vaishnav Hegde, an ace swimmer from Puttur Aquatic Club, bagged a gold for India in the 50m breastroke at the South Asian Aquatic Championship (SAAC) in Colombo.
●   This SAAC swim championship has top swimmers from SAARC nations.
●   Vaishnav clocked 29.31 to clinch the gold.
●   Jashandeep Singh of India who clocked 29.60, bagged second and third was Kiran Jayasinghe from Sri Lanka.
●   Vaishnav qualified for this event by winning the silver in the 70th Glenmark national swimming championship held at Ranchi last month.
●   Vaishnav is also the youngest among 10 swimmers from India who met the qualifying standards for the Asian Swimming Championship to be held in Tokyo.
●   Vaishnav is also the youngest swimmer with the 3rd highest FINA points in India with 766 points for his 50m breastroke.

●   वैष्णव ने 29.31 सेकंड के साथ स्वर्ण पदक जीता।
●   भारत के ही जैसनदीप सिंह ने 29.60 सेकंड के साथ रजत जबकि श्रीलंका के किरन जयसिंघे ने कांस्य पदक जीता।
●   वैष्णव ने पिछले महीने रांची में हुई 70 वीं ग्लेनमार्क नेशनल तैराकी चैंपियनशिप में रजत पदक जीतकर दक्षिण एशियाई एक्वैटिक चैंपियनशिप के लिए क्वालिफाई किया था।
●   इसके अलावा वैष्णव भारत के 10 युवा तैराकों में से एक हैं जिन्होंने नवंबर में टोक्यों में होने वाली एशियाई तैराकी चैंपियनशिप के लिए क्वालीफाई किया है।

●   She took that title alone this year with Barbora Strycova.
●   The 29-year-old completed a total of 80 weeks as the top-ranked player – the tenth-highest number of weeks as the WTA No. 1 doubles player.
●   The all-time record rests with American legend Martina Navratilova, who yesterday celebrated her 60th birthday.
●   Widely considered among the greatest players of all time, Navratilova won a staggering eighteen Grand Slams in the singles, 31 in the doubles.
●   Mirza, who initially started out in the singles and is considered one of India’s finest ever players, is the highest-ranked doubles player in Indian women’s history and was the first Indian woman to win a Grand Slam title.

India Signs up for Second Russian Akula Class Nuclear Attack Submarine

In a deal reportedly worth close to $2 billion, India is set to acquire a second Akula 2 nuclear-powered attack submarine from Russia.
●   The contract for this, which has been unannounced so far, was finalised in Goa along with a slew of other defence deals worth more than $5 billion which have been made public.
●   According to Alexei Nikolski, a columnist with the reputed Russian daily Vedomosti, "According to a source in the Russian defence industry, the long discussed lease to transfer a multipurpose Project 971 nuclear submarine to India from the Russian Navy was signed in Goa."
●   The Indian Navy already operates an Akula 2 class nuclear submarine, INS Chakra (formerly known as K-152 Nerpa), which was leased from Russia and commissioned on April 4, 2012 after India paid for its completion and sea-trials.

भारत को दूसरी परमाणु पनडुब्बी लीज पर देने को तैयार हुआ रूस

लंबी बातचीत के बाद रूस एक सौदे के तहत भारत को एक दूसरी पनडुब्बी लीज पर देने को तैयार हो गया है जिसकी कीमत लगभग दो अरब डालर होगी।
●   सौदा प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और रूसी राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन के बीच गत 15 अक्तूबर को गोवा में ब्रिक्स सम्मेलन के इतर हुई मुलाकात के दौरान हुआ था।
●   यद्यपि वह बातचीत के बाद की गई विभिन्न घोषणाओं का हिस्सा नहीं था।
●   रक्षा मंत्रालय और नौसेना ने इस विषय पर कोई सूचना मुहैया नहीं करायी क्योंकि यह प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय के प्रत्यक्ष दायरे में आने वाला एक रणनीतिक विषय था।
●   रूसी दैनिक ‘वेदुमोस्ती’ के स्तंभकार एलेक्सी निकोलस्की ने लिखा, ‘‘रूसी रक्षा उद्योग के एक सूत्र के अनुसार रूसी नौसेना द्वारा भारत को बहुउद्देश्यीय परियोजना 971 परमाणु पनडुब्बी देने के लीज पर गोवा में हस्ताक्षर हुआ जिस पर बातचीत लंबे समय से चल रही थी।’’
●   अकुला.दो श्रेणी की पनडुब्बी के वर्ष 2020..2021 में भारतीय जलक्षेत्र में आने की उम्मीद है।
●   वर्ष 2011 से भारत रूस की परमाणु शक्ति संपन्न अकुला-2 पनडुब्बी का प्रयोग कर रहा है. 10 साल की लीज पर आई इस पनडुब्बी का कार्यकाल समाप्ति की ओर जा रहा है ऐसे में भारत को दूसरी इस स्तर की पनडुब्बी की जरूरत थी

MakeMyTrip acquires Ibibo - creates largest travel group in the country

Online travel firm MakeMyTrip will acquire rival ibibo in an equity deal that will create one of the leading travel groups in India.
●   South Africa's Naspers and China's Tencent Holdings are selling ibibo Group to MakeMyTrip in exchange for an issuance of new shares by MakeMyTrip, the company said in a statement.
●   MakeMyTrip went public on NASDAQ in 2010.
●   Upon closing of the transaction, MakeMyTrip will own 100 percent of ibibo Group.
●   Naspers and Tencent will become the single largest shareholder in MakeMyTrip, owning a 40 percent stake and will contribute proportionate working capital upon closing.
●   Additionally, prior to closing, a $180 million, 5-year convertible notes issued by MakeMyTrip to Ctrip.com International Ltd in January 2016 will also be converted into common equity, resulting in Ctrip having an approximately 10 percent stake in the combined entity.
●   The transaction is expected to close by the end of December 2016 and is subject to approval by MakeMyTrip shareholders and regulatory approvals.

देश की ऑनलाइन ट्रैवल कंपनी मेक माय ट्रिप ने अपने प्रतिस्पर्धी आईबीबो ग्रुप को खरीदने का फैसला कर लिया है। इस अधिग्रहण के बाद मेक माय ट्रिप के ग्रुप सीईओ दीप कालरा अपने पद पर और आईबीबो के संस्थापक आशीष कश्यप सह-संस्थापक के तौर पर बने रहेंगे।
●   दक्षिण अफ्रीका के नसपेर और चीन के टेनसेंट होल्डिंग्स मेकमाईट्रिप द्वारा नए शेयर जारी करने के लिए एक के बदले में मेकमाईट्रिप को आईबीबो समूह बेच रहे हैं।
●   मेकमाईट्रिप 2010 में एनएएसडीएक्यू पर सार्वजनिक किया गया।
●   सौदे के समापन पर, मेकमाईट्रिप, आईबीबो समूह का 100 प्रतिशत हिस्सा लेगा।
●   अफ्रीका के नसपेर और चीन के टेनसेंट मेकमाईट्रिप में अकेली सबसे बड़ी शेयरधारक बन जाएंगे, ये 40 प्रतिशत हिस्सेदारी अपने पास रखेंगे ।
●   बंद होने से पहले एक 180 मिलियन डॉलर के 5 साल के कनवर्टिबल नोट मेक माय ट्रिप सीट्रिप डॉट कॉम इंटरनेशनल लिमिटेड के इक्विटी कॉमन इक्विटी में बदलेगा। इसके बाद सीट्रिप के पास संयुक्त इक्विटी में 10 फीसदी हिस्सा होगा।
●   लेनदेन दिसंबर 2016 के अंत तक पूरा होने की उम्मीद है और मेकमाईट्रिप शेयरधारकों और नियामक मंजूरी द्वारा अनुमोदन के अधीन है।

Centre Proposes 4 GST Slabs

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council on 18 October 2016 reached a consensus on the way the states would be compensated for any loss of revenue after implementation of the new indirect tax regime, GST from 1 April 2017.
●   During the meet, the GST Council also discussed the possible GST rates, including a four-slab structure of 6, 12, 18 and 26 with lower rates for essential items and highest band for luxury goods.
●   The three-day GST council meet was headed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and included representatives from all states.
●   Base year for calculating the revenue of a state would be 2015-16
●   Secular growth rate of 14 per cent would be taken for calculating the likely revenue of each state in the first five years of implementation of the GST.
●   States getting lower revenue would be compensated by the Centre.
●   They reached at a consensus on definition of revenue to compensate states for revenue loss due to GST implementation.

जीएसटी के लिए केंद्र ने दिया चार स्लैब वाले टैक्स रेट का प्रस्ताव

केंद्र सरकार ने गुड्स एंड सर्विसेज टैक्स (जीएसटी) के लिए चार स्लैब वाले रेट का सुझाव दिया है, जिसमें 12 पर्सेंट और 18 पर्सेंट के दो स्टैंडर्ड रेट्स होंगे। सरकार नहीं चाहती कि जीएसटी लागू होने के बाद महंगाई बढ़े, लेकिन वह आमदनी से भी समझौता नहीं करना चाहती। इन बातों का ध्यान रखते हुए उसने यह प्रस्ताव रखा है। हालांकि, कुछ राज्य लग्जरी गुड्स पर अधिक टैक्स की मांग कर रहे हैं।
●   केंद्र ने जीएसटी काउंसिल को रेट्स के बारे में जो सुझाव दिया है, उसमें प्रीशियस मेटल्स पर 4 पर्सेंट (अधिकतम सीमा 6 पर्सेंट), 12 और 18 पर्सेंट के दो स्टैंडर्ड रेट्स और 26 पर्सेंट के अधिकतम रेट के साथ लग्जरी आइटम्स, पान मसाला और टोबैको प्रॉडक्ट्स पर सेस लगाने की बात शामिल है। प्रस्ताव में सर्विसेज पर 12 पर्सेंट और 18 पर्सेंट का टैक्स लगाने की बात कही गई है।
●   दिन भर चली मीटिंग के बाद फाइनेंस मिनिस्टर अरुण जेटली ने रिपोर्टर्स को बताया, 'काउंसिल के सामने रेट को लेकर 5 ऑप्शंस रखे गए। आपको रेट तय करने वक्त रेवेन्यू कलेक्शन को भी ध्यान में रखना होगा। जो भी प्रस्ताव दिए गए हैं, वह इस मामले में सिर्फ एक शुरुआत है।'
●   उन्होंने यह भी कहा, 'रेट इस तरह से तय किया जाएगा कि रिटेल महंगाई ना बढ़े और राज्यों और केंद्र के पास इतना पैसा आए कि वे उन्हें अपनी जिम्मेदारियां निभाने में दिक्कत ना हो। इस बात का भी ख्याल रखा जाएगा कि टैक्सपेयर्स पर कम से कम बोझ पड़े।' रेवेन्यू सेक्रेटरी हसमुख अधिया ने कहा कि प्रस्ताव तैयार करते वक्त मौजूदा टैक्स रेट पर भी विचार किया गया।
●   सरकार नहीं चाहती कि जिन चीजों पर अभी बिल्कुल टैक्स नहीं लगता या कम टैक्स लगता है, अचानक उन पर अधिक टैक्स लगने लगे। कंज्यूमर ड्यूरेबल्स पर अभी 31 पर्सेंट टैक्स लगता है। इसे 26 पर्सेंट के बजाय 18 पर्सेंट वाले स्लैब में डाला जा सकता है।

India Invites Pak to Disaster Mitigation Meet

India has invited Pakistan for a disaster risk reduction conference to be held in Delhi in November. But Pakistan is yet to confirm its participation.
●   In all, 61 countries have been invited, and 38 have so far confirmed their participation.
●   The Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction will be held from November 3 to 5.
●   A senior official said close to 4,000 delegates from across the country and 1,500 foreigners would take part in the conference.
●   Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the preparations.
●   An official said the conference was a step towards establishing India’s supremacy in the region in effectively handling disasters.

●   MoU for designing an academic and professional building programme for insurance industry of Myanmar.
●   The MoU was signed between Financial Regulatory Department of Myanmar and Insurance Institute of India.
●   MoU on Cooperation in the field of Power Sector: India has also offered to enhance power supply from Moreh in Manipur to Tamu in Myanmar.
●   MoU on Banking Supervision between RBI and Central Bank of Myanmar.

●   सू की ने इस मौके पर महात्मा गांधी और पंडित जवाहर लाल नेहरू को याद करते हुए कहा कि म्यांमार के लोग आर्थिक और राजनीतिक विकास की दिशा में कदम बढ़ाते हुए उससे लाभान्वित होने की उम्मीद कर रहे हैं।
●   दोनों नेताओं ने भारत और म्यांमार के सुरक्षा हितों पर जोर दिया।
●   मोदी ने क्षेत्र में शांति और स्थिरता की दिशा में काम करने के लिए दोनों देशों के बीच ज्यादा करीबी सहयोग का आह्वान किया।

Orbital ATK's Antares Rocket Launched for the first time after '14 Blast

Orbital ATK on Monday launched its Antares rocket en route to the International Space Station for the first time since a massive explosion after liftoff two years ago.
●   The new Antares 230 rocket propelled an unmanned cargo capsule, called Cygnus, toward the orbiting outpost carrying 5,100 pounds (2,300 kilograms) of supplies, food and science experiments.
●   The first and second stage portion of the rocket separated about five minutes after the launch as planned, and the Cygnus cargo ship reached orbit shortly after, according to a live broadcast of the launch on NASA television.
●   It is scheduled to berth at the space station early on Sunday, October 23.
●   After the Cygnus is unloaded, astronauts will repack it with trash from the space station.
●   The spaceship will unlatch from the ISS in a month and burn up on re-entry into Earth's atmosphere.
●   The previous Antares rocket exploded in a fireball on October 28, 2014 just seconds after liftoff, destroying the cargo capsule and damaging the launch pad.

●   नई एंटेरिस 230 रॉकेट एक मानवरहित मालवाहक कैप्सूल,है जो खाद्य आपूर्ति और विज्ञान के प्रयोगों के 5,100 पाउंड (2,300 किलोग्राम) के सामान ले जा रहा है।
●   अमरीकी एयरोस्पेस कंपनी ऑर्बिटल एटीके ने आइ.एस.एस. के लिए री-सप्लाई मिशन को सफलतापूर्वक लांच किया।
●   इसमें अंतरिक्ष में विकिरण का पता लगाने वाले उपकरण भी हैं। इसके साथ सैफ्फिरे-2 नामक उपकरण भी है।
●   इससे अंतरिक्ष में उठने वाली लपटों के बारे में अध्ययन किया जाएगा। इसके अलावा प्रकाश विकिरण में न्यूट्रॉन की मात्रा का पता लगाने के लिए न्यूट्रॉन स्पेक्ट्रोमीटर भी भेजा गया है।
●   अंतरिक्ष यान एक महीने में आईएसएस से पृथ्वी के वायुमंडल में पुन: प्रवेश करेगा।
●   पिछले एंटेरिस रॉकेट बस 28 अक्टूबर, 2014 को लिफ्टऑफ होने के कुछ सेकंड बाद ही ब्लास्ट होके आग के गोले में बदल गया।
●   इस ब्लास्ट में न सिर्फ रॉकेट तबाह हुआ बल्कि कार्गो कैप्सूल के साथ-साथ लांच पैड को नुकसान पहुंचा।

Second Joint tactical Exercise held by Indian and Chinese army in Ladakh

As part of the ongoing initiative to enhance interaction and cooperation between India and China, under the provisions of Border Defense Cooperation Agreement, 2013, the Indian and Chinese armies held Second Joint Exercise “Sino India Cooperation 2016” today, as a sequel to the first Joint Exercise held on 06 Feb 2016 in the area of Border Personnel Meeting Hut at Chushul Garrison of Eastern Ladakh, along with Chinese troops of Moldo Garrison.
●   During the day long exercise on Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) a fictitious situation of earthquake striking an Indian Border village was painted. Thereafter joint teams carried out rescue operations, evacuation and rendering of medical assistance.
●   The Indian Team for the exercise was led by Brigadier RS Raman and that of the Chinese was led by Sr Col Fan Jun.
●   The exercise was a great success and has not only refined the drills to provide succor to the border population in case of natural calamity but has also increased the level of trust and cooperation between the two border guarding forces along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh.
●   The joint exercise, compliments the Hand in Hand series of the India -China joint exercises and the effort of both the nations to enhance cooperation and maintain peace and tranquility along the border areas of India and China.

सीमा रक्षा सहयोग समझौता 2013 के तहत भारत और चीन के मध्य संपर्क और सहयोग बढ़ाने की पहल के एक हिस्से के रूप में भारत और चीन की सेनाओं ने आज दूसरे "संयुक्त अभ्यास “चीन - भारत सहयोग 2016” में भाग लिया।
●   यह मोल्डो गैरीसन के चीनी ट्रूप्स के साथ पूर्वी लद्दाख के चुशूल गैरीसन में सीमा कर्मियों की बैठक हट के क्षेत्र में 06 फरवरी, 2016 को आयोजित पहले संयुक्त अभ्यास का ही परिणाम है।
●   मानवीय सहायता और आपदा राहत (एचएडीआर) के बारे में दिन भर चले अभ्यास के दौरान एक भारतीय सीमावर्ती गांव में भूकंप आने की स्थिति की कल्पना की गई। इसके बाद संयुक्त टीमों ने बचाव कार्य, निकासी और चिकित्सा सहायता प्रदान करने के कार्य किए।
●   संयुक्त अभ्यास के लिए भारतीय टीम का नेतृत्व ब्रिगेडियर आर. एस. रमन ने किया और चीनी टीम का नेतृत्व सीनियर कर्नल फैन जुन ने किया।
●   यह अभ्यास बहुत सफल रहा। और इसने न केवल प्राकृतिक आपदा के मामले में सीमा पर रहने वाले लोगों को राहत पहुंचाने के लिए किए गए कार्य को परिष्कृत किया बल्कि पूर्वी लद्दाख में वास्तविक नियंत्रण रेखा के साथ दोनो देशों की सीमा की रखवाली करने वाले बलों के मध्य सहयोग और विश्वास के स्तर को भी बढ़ाया है।
●   भारत और चीन के मध्य संयुक्त अभ्यास की इस श्रृंखला का उद्देश्य भारत और चीन के सीमावर्ती क्षेत्रों में दोनों देशों द्वारा सहयोग बढ़ाने, शांति और सौहार्द बनाए रखने का प्रयास करना है।

Commerce and Industry Minister launches the CIPAM Logo

The logo of the Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM) was launched today by the Commerce & Industry Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman.
●   On the occasion she said that this is an ambitious task as India’s intellectual property related activities need great traction.
●   The logo has been designed keeping in mind the slogan of the National IPR Policy: “Creative India, Innovative India”. While the logo stands for “Cell for IPR Promotion and Management”, the letters “I” and “P” have been stylized to represent “Intellectual Property” as well.
●   The letter “I” stands for Intellectual, and is represented by a pencil, denoting the expression of creativity, and in the tri-colours of the Indian flag. The curve of the letter “P” stands for Property, and is denoted by a gear which depicts Innovation and Industry.
●   Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM) has been created as a professional body under the aegis of DIPP to take forward the implementation of the National IPR Policy that was approved by the Government in May 2016, with the slogan – “Creative India; Innovative India”
●   CIPAM is working towards creating public awareness about IPRs in the country, promoting the filing of IPRs through facilitation, providing inventors with a platform to commercialize their IP assets and coordinating the implementation of the National IPR Policy in collaboration with Government Ministries/Departments and other stakeholders.

वाणिज्य एवं उद्योग मंत्री श्रीमती निर्मला सीतारमण ने आज आईपीआर संवर्धन और प्रबंधन सेल (सीआईपीएएम) के लोगो का लोकार्पण किया। इस अवसर पर उन्होंने कहा कि यह एक महत्वाकांक्षी कार्य है जिसके अंतर्गत भारत की बौद्धिक संपदा से संबंधित गतिविधियों को रास्ते पर लाने की जरूरत है।
●   इस लोगो की अवधारणा राष्ट्रीय आईपीआर नीति के नारे "रचनात्मक भारत, अभिनव भारत" को ध्यान में रखते हुए तैयार किया गया है। जबकि लोगो "आईपीआर संवर्धन और प्रबंधन सेल" के लिए है जिसमें "आई" और "पी" का इस्तेमाल "बौद्धिक संपदा" के अक्षरों को दर्शाने के लिए किया गया है।
●   अक्षर "आई" "बौद्धिक " को दर्शाता है जिसे एक पेंसिल से प्रस्तुत किया गया है जो रचनात्मकता की अभिव्यक्ति को दिखाता है और साथ ही में भारतीय तिरंगे जैसा है। अक्षर 'पी' को वक्र किया गया है जो संपदा को दर्शाता है तथा जिसे गियर द्वारा दिखाया गया है जो नई खोज और उद्योग को दर्शाता है।
●   आईपीआर संवर्धन और प्रबंधन सेल (सीआईपीएएम) डीआईपीपी के तहत आने वाला एक पेशेवर संगठन है जिसका गठन मई 2016 में सरकार द्वारा अनुमोदित राष्ट्रीय बौद्धिक संपदा अधिकार नीति को लागू करने के उद्देश्य से "रचनात्मक भारत, अभिनव भारत" के नारे के साथ किया गया है।
●   सीआईपीएए सरकार के मंत्रालयों / विभागों और अन्य हितधारकों के साथ सहयोग करते हुए देश में आईपीआर के बारे में जनता में जागरूकता पैदा करने, सरलीकरण के माध्यम से आईपीआर दाखिल करने को बढ़ावा देने, अन्वेषकों को अपने आईपी परिसंपत्तियों का व्यवसायीकरण करने और राष्ट्रीय आईपीआर नीति के कार्यान्वयन में समन्वय की दिशा में काम कर रहा है ।
