NATIONAL:

India to co-chair 2020 CG of Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery.

• India was unanimously chosen by member countries as next co-chair of Consultative Group (CG) of Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) for the fiscal year 2020. This decision was taken during Consultative Group meeting of GFDRR 2019 held from 13 May- 17 May in Geneva, Switzerland. This is the first time that India has been given the opportunity of co-chairing CG meeting of GFDRR.

• The Consultative Group meeting held in Geneva was the 6th Session of GPDRR 2019. The CG Meeting 2019 was co-chaired by the European Union (EU), Africa Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States, and World Bank.

GFDRR in cooperation with the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and EU also organized the 4th edition of World Reconstruction Conference (WRC) on May 13-14, 2019 in Geneva.

• The participants included experts, policymakers, leaders, and practitioners from various government, international organizations, academia, private sector and NGOs from both developing and developed countries.

• India and GFDRR:

In 2015, India became a member of Consultative Group (CG) of GFDRR. At the 5th session of GFDRR held in October 2018, Indiaexpressed its interest to co-chair the meet.

• India's candidature was backed by member countries because of India's consistent progress in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and also various initiatives it has undertaken to form a coalition on disaster resilient infrastructure.

Paytm Partners With Citibank To Launch 1st Credit Card- Paytm First Card.

• Digital payments company Paytm, in association with Citibank, launched its first credit card called Paytm First Card.

Paytm First Card comes with unlimited cash back and will be accepted in India as well globally.

The card is issued by Citibank and doesn’t involve any hidden fees or charges.

India had world's highest child mortality rate in 2015: Lancet study

• India had more deaths among children under five than any other country in 2015, with large disparities in the child mortality rate between richer and poorer states, a Lancet study has found. The researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in the US analysed state-level Indian data on the causes of death among children under five for the years 2000-2015. They found that India made great progress during the period, reducing annual mortality among children under five from 2.5 million in 2000 to 1.2 million in 2015 - which was still the highest in the world.

Yes Bank falls 9% after RBI appoints director in rare move.

• Shares of Yes Bank plunged up to 9% on Wednesday, falling to its lowest since November 2018. This came following the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) appointment of former Deputy Governor R Gandhi as an additional director on the private lender's board in a rare move. The appointment comes days after Yes Bank reported a fourth-quarter loss of ₹1,507 crore.

RBI appointed R.Gandhi as Additional director of Yes Bank.

• The Reserve Bank of India has appointed its former Deputy Governor R. Gandhi as an additional director on the board of private sector lender Yes Bank with immediate effect. The appointment is for two years, that is till May 13, 2021.

R. Gandhi’s appointment comes against the backdrop of Yes Bank reported a loss of ₹1,507 cr for March quarter. This appointment will significantly strengthen Yes Bank's Board Composition and the Bank will immensely benefit from R. Gandhi's experience and wisdom at the Yes Bank.

• Mr.R.Gandhi:

Gandhi was RBI Deputy Governor during April 2014 and April 2017. Gandhi was the driving force for the design and implementation of real-time gross settlement system or RTGS.

AIFF Appoints Igor Stimac As Indian Football Team Coach.

• The Indian football team has been without a coach since the departure of Stephen Constantine in January.

• Croatia's Igor Stimac has been appointed the head coach of the Indian football team for a two-year term, the All India Football Federation announced on Wednesday.

• The official announcement was made on the Indian Football Team.

• Igor stimac:

• he was part the of the Croatia team that finished third in the 1998 World Cup, and a member of the national squad which qualified for the quarterfinals of the UEFA European Championship 1996 (Euro) in England.

• Besides, he was also a part of the Yugoslavia U-19 national team which won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 1987.

• Stimac's major achievement was guiding Croatia to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. During his tenure as the national coach of Croatia, he handed debuts to the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Ante Rebic, Alen Halilovic, and Ivan Perisic, amongst others.

• His last assignment was with Al-Shahania Club in Qatar.

Maj Gen Dhingra appointed 1st chief of Armed Forces Special Ops.

• Sri Lanka Civil War veteran Major General AK Dhingra has been appointed as the first Chief of the Armed Forces Special Operations Division. The formation will have Special Forces commandos from the Army's Parachute Regiment, Navy's MARCOS and Air Force's Garud Commando Force. The forces will be trained together and will be tasked in dealing with specific operations.

ARMED FORCES SPECIAL OPS DIVISION:

• The Armed Forces Special Operations Division has been set up by the government to undertake joint operations by three services and will have elements from the Army's Parachute Regiments SF, Marine Commandos (MARCOS) of the Navy and the Garud Commandos of the Indian Air Force

Myntra-Jabong hires former YouTube exec as marketing head.

• E-commerce major Flipkart-owned fashion e-tailer Myntra-Jabong has appointed former YouTube executive Harish Narayanan as head of marketing. Narayanan will be taking over from Mithun Sundar, who currently heads revenue and marketing, and will report directly to Myntra-Jabong head Amar Nagaram. The IIM Lucknow alumnus headed B2B marketing for YouTube Asia-Pacific for over 2.5 years

International Day of Families is observed on 15 May.

• The International Day of Families (IDF) is observed on the 15th of May every year. The Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993. The day reflects the importance the international community attaches to families. It was first observed in 1996.

The International Day provides an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families and to increase knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting families. On this day, people across the world celebrate spending time with their families and reuniting with family members.

The theme for IDF 2019 is Families and Climate Action: Focus on SDG 13.

The SDG 13 targets include:

• Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction, and early warning

भारत आपदा न्यूनीकरण और रिकवरी के लिए वैश्विक सुविधा के कंसल्टेंट ग्रुप की सह-अध्यक्षता करेगा

• भारत को वित्तीय वर्ष 2020 के लिए आपदा न्यूनीकरण और रिकवरी के लिए वैश्विक सुविधा(GFDRR) के कंसल्टेंट ग्रुप (CG) के सह-अध्यक्ष के रूप में सर्वसम्मति से चुना गया है. यह निर्णय स्विटजरलैंड के जिनेवा में आयोजित GFDRR की CG बैठक के GPDRR 2019 के 6 वें सत्र के मार्जिन के दौरान लिया गया।

• सीजी मीटिंग की सह-अध्यक्षता अफ्रीका कैरेबियन और पैसिफिक (ACP) ग्रुप ऑफ स्टेट्स, यूरोपियन यूनियन (EU) और वर्ल्ड बैंक ने की. इसके अतिरिक्त, संयुक्त राष्ट्र कार्यालय के लिए आपदा जोखिम न्यूनीकरण (UNDRR) और यूरोपीय संघ के सहयोग से GFDRR ने विश्व पुनर्निर्माण सम्मेलन (WRC) के चौथे संस्करण का भी आयोजन किया था, यह पहली बार है जब किसी देश को GFDRR की CG बैठक की सह-अध्यक्षता का अवसर दिया गया है।

Paytm ने सिटी बैंक से मिलाया हाथ, जारी किया अपना क्रेडिट कार्ड

• पेमेंट कंपनी पेटीएम ने सिटी बैंक से हाथ मिलाकर क्रेडिट कार्ड लॉन्च किया है। ग्लोबल पेमेंट कंपनी Visa ने अपने नेटवर्क में Paytm Payments Bank को शामिल किया है। अब पेटीएम Visa लिखे हुए डेबिट कार्ड जारी करेगा। भारत में तकरीबन 30 करोड़ लोग पेटीएम का इस्तेमाल करते हैं। पेटीएम के साथ हाथ मिलाकर वीजा कंपनी इस ग्राहक वर्ग को अपने साथ जोड़ना चाहती है।

भारत में 2015 में दुनिया की सबसे अधिक बाल मृत्यु दर: लैंसेट अध्ययन

• ग्लोबल ब्रेस्ट फीडिंग स्कोरकार्ड के मुताबिक बच्चों को मां का दूध नहीं मिलने के कारण भारत की अर्थव्यवस्था को 9000 करोड़ रुपये का नुकसान होता है। बच्चों को स्तनपान नहीं मिलने से लगभग 1 लाख बच्चों की इससे जुड़े कारणों से मौत हो जाती है।

• इस रिपोर्ट में बताया गया है कि बोलीविया, मलावी, नेपाल, सोलोमन आइलैंड, बुरुन्डी, कम्बोडिया, जाम्बिया, किरिबाती, इरीट्रिया सरीखे 23 देशों ने छोटे बच्चों में केवल स्तनपान के 60 प्रतिशत के स्तर को पा लिया है, किन्तु इस सूची में भारत शामिल नहीं है।

• द लांसेट के अध्ययन के मुताबिक वर्ष 2015 में गर्भावस्था और प्रसव के दौरान 45000 महिलाओं की मृत्यु हुई।

बैंक और अर्थव्‍यवस्‍था:

यस बैंक के शेयरों मे 9% तक गिरावट दर्ज की गई-

• यस बैंक के शेयरों ने बुधवार को 9% तक की गिरावट दर्ज की, जो नवंबर 2018 के बाद से सबसे कम है। यह भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक (आरबीआई) द्वारा पूर्व डिप्टी गवर्नर आर गांधी की निजी ऋणदाता बोर्ड में अतिरिक्त निदेशक के रूप में नियुक्ति के बाद हुआ। यस बैंक की चौथी तिमाही में 1,507 करोड़ की नुकसान की रिपोर्ट के कुछ दिनों बाद यह नियुक्ति हुई।

• आरबीआई (RBI) ने पूर्व डिप्टी गवर्नर आर.एस. गांधी (R.S. Gandhi) को निजी क्षेत्र के चौथे सबसे बड़े बैंक यस बैंक (Yes Bank) का अतिरिक्तन निदेशक नियुक्त किया है।

• गांधी 14 मई से अगले दो साल तक यस बैंक में अतिरिक्त निदेशक रहेंगे। गांधी अप्रैल 2014 से अप्रैल 2017 तक अरबीआई के डिप्टी गर्वनर रहे थे।

• गांधी की यस बैंक में नियुक्ति ऐसे समय पर की गयी है, जब प्रोविजन में 9 गुना बढ़ोतरी के कारण बैंक को जनवरी-मार्च तिमाही में 1,507 करोड़ रुपये का शुद्ध घाटा हुआ है। साथ ही रेटिंग एजेंसियों आईसीआरए और इंडिया रेटिंग्स ने यस बैंक की लंबी अवधि की रेटिंग घटायी है।

• दूसरी तरफ बीएसई में यस बैंक का शेयर 5 महीनों से ज्यादा की अवधि के निचले स्तर पर पहुँच गया है। बैंक का शेयर 156.15 रुपये के पिछले बंद स्तर के मुकाबले आज गिरावट के साथ 154.90 रुपये पर खुल कर अभी तक के सत्र में 148.30 रुपये के निचले स्तर तक गिरा है।

क्रोएशिया के इगोर स्टिमैक भारतीय फुटबॉल टीम के कोच नियुक्त

• अखिल भारतीय फुटबॉल महासंघ (एआईएफएफ) ने क्रोएशिया के इगोर स्टिमैक को भारतीय फुटबॉल टीम का मुख्य कोच नियुक्त कर कई सप्ताह से चली आ रही अटकलों पर विराम लगा दिया। स्टिमैक को दो साल के लिए अनुबंधित किया है।

• स्टिमैक को क्रोएशिया समेत दुनियाभर में 18 वर्षों तक टीम की कोचिंग और खिलाड़ियों को तैयार करने का अनुभव है। वे जब क्रोएशिया के कोच थे तब उन्होंने माटेव कोवासिच, एंटे रेबिक, एलेन हालिलोविच और इवान पैरिसिच जैसे महत्वपूर्ण खिलाड़ियों का डेब्यू करवाया था। उन्होंने डारियो सरना, डेनियल सुबासिच, इवान स्ट्रिनिक, कोवासिच, पैरिसिच जैसे खिलाड़ियों को तैयार किया। स्टिमैक का पिछला कार्यकाल कतर के अल-शहानिया क्लब के साथ था।

मेजर जनरल ए के ढींगरा को प्रथम विशेष परिचालन डिवीजन कमांडर के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया

• प्रमुख स्पेशल फोर्स ऑपरेटिव और श्रीलंका युद्ध के दिग्गज मेजर जनरल एके ढींगरा को तीनों सेवाओं से देश के पहले ट्राई सर्विस विशेष परिचालन प्रभाग कोम्प्रिसिंग कमांडो के पहले प्रमुख के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया है।

• सशस्त्र बल विशेष परिचालन प्रभाग को सरकार द्वारा तीन सेवाओं के संयुक्त संचालन के लिए स्थापित किया गया है और इसमें सेना के पैराशूट रेजिमेंट एसएफ, नौसेना के मरीन कमांडो (MARCOS) और भारतीय वायु सेना के गरुड़ कमांडो शामिल होंगे।

NATIONAL:

NABARD launched Nab Ventures- its maiden fund to give support to agriculture, food, rural startups.

• NABARD (The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development), Nab Ventures notified its first time funding termed ‘NAB VENTURES Fund I‘ which is a Rs 700-crore venture capital fund for equity investments to provide support for agriculture, food and rural startups (which would help improve rural livelihoods)

The fund has a proposed corpus of Rs 500 crore has a greenshoe option of Rs 200 crore and has received an anchor commitment from NABARD.

The a forementioned fund is registered with SEBI as a Category II Alternative Investment Fund and would raise the resources from domestic and global investors.

India's GS Lakshmi becomes first ever female ICC match referee.

• India's GS Lakshmi has become the first ever woman to be appointed to the ICC International Panel of Match Referees and will be eligible to referee international games with immediate effect. The 50-year-old first officiated as a match referee in domestic women's cricket in 2008/09. Lakshmi has overseen three women's ODI matches and three women's T20I matches.

NABARD subsidiary announces 700 cr fund for rural startups.

• Nabventures, a subsidiary of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has announced a 700-crore venture capital fund for investments in agriculture, food and rural-focused startups. The fund has a proposed corpus of 500 crore with an option to retain over-subscriptions of 200 crore. Till now, NABARD has contributed 273 crore to 16 alternate investment funds.

INTERNATIONAL:

GTA publisher Rockstar Games buys KBC game maker Dhruva.

• Grand Theft Auto publisher Rockstar Games has acquired Swedish developer Starbreeze AB's 91.82% stake in Bengaluru-headquartered video game studio Dhruva Interactive for over ₹55 crore. Founded in 1997 by Rajesh Rao, Dhruva Interactive is claimed to be India's first-ever game development studio. It is best known for its games Kaun Banega Crorepati, N64 Mission: Impossible and Forza Horizon.

AGREEMENTS AND MOUS:

Iran's Foreign Minister meets Swaraj in India amid US sanctions.

• Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif met his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj in Delhi on Tuesday during his two-day visit to the country. His visit comes amid increased tensions with the US in the wake of renewed sanctions. India has reportedly stopped imports of Iranian oil after the US withdrew waivers granted to nations on the imports.

BANKS AND ECONOMICS:

HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company launched Mosquito Disease Protection Policy which will cover people against common mosquito-borne diseases.

• India’s 3rd-largest non-life insurance provider in the private sector, HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company launched a scheme termed ‘Mosquito Disease Protection Policy’ which will cover a person against common mosquito-borne diseases, namely, Dengue Fever, Malaria, Chikungunya, Japanese Encephalitis, Kala-azar, Lymphatic Filariasis and Zika Virus.

• These mosquito-borne diseases lead to financial burden due to hospitalization or affect the No Claim Bonus of any conventional Health Insurance.

• The policy by HDFC ERGO will cover hospitalization expenses. The policyholder may opt for a huge amount to be paid as a policy benefit on offering the proof of hospitalization.

The policy will also pay the beneficiary the sum insured if in case of the policyholder dies due to the disease.

• This policy also provides international cover to people and also covers all the vector-borne diseases listed in the policy document.

• The policy cover will be available for people between the age of 91 days to 65 years.Along with these benefits, the policyholders will have access to different wellness

• services, namely, discounts and specialized programs like health tips, diet consultation and other programs offered on the health mobile application of HDFC (Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd.) ERGO.

Allahabad Bank reduced 0.05% points in benchmark lending rate.

• State-owned Allahabad Bank announced a reduction in benchmark lending rate by 0.05 percentage points across various tenors. The marginal cost of funds-based lending rate (MCLR) for a one-year loan has been reduced to 8.60% from 8.65%effective May 14.

Most of the loans including housing loans are benchmarked against MCLR for one year.

Revised MCLR:

• 1 month: 8.20%

• 3 months: 8.40%

• 6 months: 8.45%

Wholesale inflation eases to 3.07% in April.

• India's inflation measured by the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) eased to 3.07% in April from 3.18% in the previous month, driven by a fall in prices of fuel and manufactured items. However, inflation in food articles stood at 7.37%, up from 5.68% in March. This comes after India's retail inflation in April rose to a 6-month high of 2.92%.

• LIC Mutual Fund appointed Dinesh Pangtey as the company's Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

• He joined LIC as a direct recruit officer in 1984

He was Director and CEO at LIC Group's private equity division LIC HFL AMC. He also served as Regional Manager Marketing channel in Western Zone spanning the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa.

• He has more than 35 years of experience across private equity, life pension, group annuation scheme and insurance sector.

Jet Airways CEO Vinay Dube resigns with immediate effect.

• Jet Airways CEO Vinay Dube has resigned from the grounded airline with immediate effect due to "personal reasons". The development comes just a day after Deputy CEO and Chief Financial Officer of the company Amit Agarwal resigned, also citing personal reasons. Jet Airways, which suspended its operations indefinitely, has only received a bid from Etihad Airways for a minority stake.

• Debt-ridden carrier Jet Airways' Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Deputy Chief Executive Officer Amit Agarwal has resigned from his positions at the airline, the company said in a statement on Tuesday. "[He] has resigned from services of the company due to personal reasons, with effect from May 13," the airline said. Agarwal had joined the airline in December 2015.

नाबार्ड ने कृषि, ग्रामीण क्षेत्र की स्टार्टअप कंपनियों के लिए बनाया 700 करोड़ रुपये का कोष

• राष्ट्रीय कृषि और ग्रामीण विकास बैंक (नाबार्ड) ने कृषि एवं ग्रामीण क्षेत्र की स्टार्टअप कंपनियों में इक्विटी निवेश के लिए सोमवार को 700 करोड़ रुपये के उद्यम पूंजी कोष की घोषणा की। नाबार्ड अभी तक अन्य कोषों में योगदान करता है । यह पहली बार है कि जब उसने अपना कोष पेश किया है। एक आधिकारिक बयान में कहा गया कि नाबार्ड की अनुषंगी कंपनी नैबवेंचर्स ने यह कोष पेश किया है। इसके लिए 500 करोड़ रुपये की पूंजी का प्रस्ताव किया गया है। साथ ही ओवर - सब्सक्रिप्शन के लिए 200 करोड़ रुपये की अतिरिक्त पूंजी का भी विकल्प है। इसंमें कहा गया है कि नाबार्ड ने कोष के लिए एंकर प्रतिबद्धता जताई है। यह कोष कृषि , खाद्य और ग्रामीण विकास के क्षेत्र में काम करने वाली स्टार्टअप कंपनियों में निवेश करेगा। नाबार्ड के चेयरमैन हर्ष कुमार भनवाला ने कहा कि इस कोष से भारत में कृषि , खाद्य एवं ग्रामीण आजीविका जैसे क्षेत्रों में निवेश तंत्र को बड़ा फायदा मिलने की उम्मीद है। बयान में कहा गया है कि नाबार्ड ने अब तक 16 वैकल्पिक निवेश कोष में 273 करोड़ रुपये का योगदान किया है।

• भारत की जीएस लक्ष्मी अंतरराष्‍ट्रीय पैनल में चुने जाने वाली आईसीसी की पहली महिला मैच रेफरी बन गई हैं। लक्ष्मी से पहले इसी महीने क्लेयर पोलोसक पहली बार पुरुष वनडे मैचों का प्रतिनिधित्व करने वाली पहली महिला अंपायर बनी थीं और अब लक्ष्मी तत्काल प्रभाव से ही अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मैच रेफरी बन गई हैं।51 वर्षीय लक्ष्मी घरेलू महिला क्रिकेट में 2008-09 के दौरान मैच रेफरी के पद पर रह चुकी हैं और इसके अलावा वह तीन महिला वनडे मैचों और इतने ही महिला टी-20 मैचों में भी रेफरी की भूमिका निभा चुकी हैं।

• अमेरिका से बढ़ते तनाव के बीच ईरान के विदेश मंत्री मोहम्मद जवाद जरीफ आज भारत की विदेश मंत्री सुषमा स्वराज से मुलाकात करेंगे। तीन हफ्ते पहले अमेरिका ने ईरान के जरिये होने वाले अंतरराष्ट्रीय तेल कारोबार पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया था। इस मामले में उसने अब तक छूट पा रहे देशों को भी चेतावनी दी थी कि अब वे ईरान से तेल आयात करना बंद कर दें। इनमें भारत भी शामिल था। ऐसे में ईरान और भारत के विदेश मंत्रियों की होने वाली मुलाकात अहम मानी जा रही है।

HDFC ERGO जनरल इंश्योरेंस कंपनी ने मॉस्किटो डिजीज प्रोटेक्शन पॉलिसी लॉन्च की जो आम मच्छर जनित बीमारियों के खिलाफ लोगों को कवर करेगी।

इलाहाबाद बैंक ने ग्राहकों को दिया तोहफा, इतनी सस्ती हो गई होम-ऑटो लोन की EMI

• इलाहाबाद बैंक (Allahabad Bank) ने ग्राहकों को तोहफा देते हुए मार्जिनल कॉस्ट ऑफ लेंडिंग रेट (MCLR) घटाने का ऐलान किया है। इलाहाबाद बैंक ने अलग-अलग टेन्योर के लिए बेंचमार्क उधार दर में 0.05 फीसदी की कमी की घोषणा की। इसके बाद बैंक का होम लोन, ऑटो लोन और पर्सनल लोन सस्ता हो जाएगा। एमसीएलआर घटने से आम आदमी को सबसे बड़ा फायदा यह होता है कि उसका मौजूदा लोन सस्ता हो जाता है और उसे पहले की तुलना में कम EMI देनी पड़ती है। आपको बता दें कि पिछले महीने हुई आरबीआई की बैठक में रेपो रेट 0.25 फीसदी घटाने का फैसला हुआ था। इसके बाद कई सरकारी बैंक ब्याज दरें घटाने ऐलान कर चुके है। RBI की अगली बैठक जून महीने में होगी।

थोक महंगाई के मोर्चे पर सरकार को बड़ी राहत, अप्रैल में मुद्रास्फीति घटकर पहुंची 3.07% पर

• खाने-पीने की चीजों के महंगे होने के बावजूद विनिर्माण वस्तुओं और ईंधन की कीमतों मे नरमी से अप्रैल महीने में थोक मुद्रास्फीति गिरकर 3.07 फीसदी पर आ गई। मंगलवार को जारी सरकारी आंकड़ों में यह जानकारी दी गई। थोक मूल्य सूचकांक (WPI) आधारित मुद्रास्फीति मार्च 2019 में 3.18 फीसदी थी जबकि अप्रैल 2018 में यह 3.62 फीसदी पर थी। सब्जियों के दाम बढ़ने से अप्रैल में खाद्य पदार्थों की मुद्रास्फीति अधिक रही।

एलआईसी म्युचुअल फंड सीईओ के रूप में दिनेश पैंग्टेई को नियुक्त किया गया

• LIC म्यूचुअल फंड ने दिनेश पैंग्टेई को कंपनी का मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी (CEO) नियुक्त किया गया है। पैंग्टेई एलआईसी समूह के निजी इक्विटी डिवीजन एलआईसी एचएफएल एएमसी में निदेशक और सीईओ थे।

• वह 1984 में एलआईसी में एक सीधी भर्ती अधिकारी के रूप में शामिल हुए थे. उन्होंने महाराष्ट्र, गुजरात और गोवा राज्यों में पश्चिमी क्षेत्र में क्षेत्रीय प्रबंधक विपणन चैनल के रूप में भी काम किया है।

जेट एयरवेज के सीईओ विनय दुबे ने इस्तीफा दिया

• जेट एयरवेज के मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी (सीईओ) विनय दुबे ने व्यक्तिगत कारणों से अपने पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया है। एक दिन पहले ही एयरलाइन के डिप्टी सीईओ और मुख्य वित्त अधिकारी (सीएफओ) अमित अग्रवाल ने अपने पद से इस्तीफा दिया था। भारतीय-अमेरिकी मूल के दुबे अगस्त, 2016 में जेट एयरवेज से जुड़े थे। इससे पहले वह अमेरिका, यूरोप और एशिया में डेल्टा एयरलाइंस, साबरे इंक और अमेरिकन एयरलाइंस में विभिन्न पदों पर रह चुके थे। जेट एयरेवज ने शेयर बाजारों को भेजी सूचना में कहा, ‘‘हम यह सूचित करना चाहते हैं कि मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी विनय दुबे ने व्यक्तिगत कारणों से तत्काल प्रभाव से इस्तीफा दे दिया है।’’ दुबे के आने से 15 महीने पहले मुख्य कार्यकारी क्रैमर बॉल ने इस्तीफा दिया था। इस अवधि के दौरान अग्रवाल ने कार्यवाहक सीईओ की भूमिका निभाई थी। इससे पहले दिन में जेट एयरवेज ने शेयर बाजारों को सूचित किया कि अग्रवाल ने व्यक्तिगत कारणों से अपने पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया है।

जेट एयरवेज के CFO ने दिया इस्‍तीफा,

• आर्थिक संकट से जूझ रही एयरलाइन जेट एयरवेज को एक और झटका लगा है. दरअसल, जेट एयरवेज के मुख्य वित्तीय अधिकारी (सीएफओ) अमित अग्रवाल से अपने पद से इस्‍तीफा दे दिया है। कंपनी की ओर से दी गई जानकारी के मुताबिक अमित अग्रवाल ने निजी कारणों से इस्‍तीफा दिया है। अमित का इस्‍तीफा 13 मई से प्रभावी है।

• अमित अग्रवाल के इस्तीफे के बाद पिछले एक महीने में 4 लोग कंपनी छोड़कर जा चुके हैं। इससे पहले निदेश गौरंग शेट्टी के अलावा स्वतंत्र निदेशक राजश्री पाथी और गैर - कार्यकारी निदेशक नसीम जैदी ने इस्तीफा दिया था। नसीम जैदी मुख्‍य निर्वाचन आयुक्‍त रह चुके हैं।

• 'Kamali', a short film on Tamil Nadu's nine-year-old skateboarder girl Kamali Moorthy, has qualified for the 2020 Academy Awards shortlist.

• The 24-minute film directed by filmmaker Sasha Rainbow from New Zealand won the Best Documentary Short at Atlanta Film Festival in April.

• Born in a fishermen colony, Kamali has toured across India with professional skateboarding teams to promote the sport.

Reliance Industries moves registered offices of five subsidiaries to Gujarat.

• Reliance Industries (RIL) has moved registered offices of five of its subsidiaries — four telecom and one investment arm — to Ahmedabad, Gujarat, over the last one year.

• The telecom subsidiaries include — Reliance Jio Messaging Services Ltd, Reliance Jio Infratel Private Ltd, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, and Reliance Jio Digital Services Ltd. The registered office of the investment arm Reliance Industrial Investments and Holdings Ltd (RIIHL), which serves as a vehicle to invest in various business ventures of RIL, has also been moved to Gujarat. Prior to the shift, all these companies had their registered offices in Mumbai.

Chinese navy launches two new guided missile destroyers.

• China, which is developing its navy at a feverish pace, has commissioned two more guided missile destroyers taking the total of such warships to 20 with more in the pipeline, state-media reported on Monday.

• Two Type 052D guided missile destroyers were launched last Friday in Dalian, a coastal city, state-run Global Times reported.

• Their commissioning marked the 19th and 20th of launches of their kind, the report said and quoted Chinese analysts as saying that plans are afoot to build more guided missile destroyers.

Sanjiv Puri becomes CMD of ITC.

• ITC Managing Director Sanjiv Puri has been appointed as the chairman by the Board of Directors. His new designation will now be chairman and managing director, the company said in a stock exchange filing.

• Company chairman Yogesh Chander Deveshwar passed away on May 11.

• Mr. Puri (56) has been the Managing Director since 2018. He was appointed on the board in December 2015 and as the CEO in February 2017.

• अपनी नौसेना का त्वरित विस्तार कर रहे चीन ने दो और निर्देशित मिसाइल विध्वसंक पोतों को शामिल कर ऐसी क्षमता वाले अपने युद्धपोतों की संख्या बढ़ाकर 20 कर ली है जबकि आने वाले समय में इनकी संख्या में और बढ़ोत्तरी करने की उसकी योजना है। सरकारी मीडिया में सोमवार को यह जानकारी दी गई है। सरकारी ‘‘ग्लोबल टाइम्स’’ ने खबर दी है कि गत शुक्रवार को तटीय नगर डालियन में दो टाइप 052डी निर्देशित मिसाइल विध्वंसकों को शामिल किया गया।

• रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि अपनी तरह के ये 19वें एवं 20वें पोत हैं। इसमें चीनी विश्लेषकों के उस कथन का भी उल्लेख है जिसमें उन्होंने कहा है कि इसी प्रकार के अन्य निर्देशित मिसाइल विध्वसंकों को तैयार किया जा रहा है। रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि चीन के पास अब 20 टाइप 052डी या तो सेवा में हैं अन्यथा उन्हें सेवा में शीघ्र शामिल किया जायेगा।

ITC के चेयरमैन बने संजीव पुरी, कंपनी का Q4 में शुद्ध लाभ 18.72 फीसद बढ़ा

• विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में कारोबार करने वाले समूह आईटीसी लिमिटेड का एकल आधार पर शुद्ध लाभ 31 मार्च 2019 को समाप्त तिमाही में 18.72 प्रतिशत बढ़कर 3,481.9 करोड़ रुपये रहा। गत्ता, कागज, होटल तथा रोजमर्रा के उपयोग के सामान के कारोबार में अच्छी वृद्धि से कंपनी का लाभ बढ़ा है।

• इससे पिछले वित्त वर्ष 2017-18 की इसी तिमाही में कंपनी को 2,932.71 करोड़ रुपये का शुद्ध लाभ हुआ था। कोलकाता की कंपनी ने कहा कि आईटीसी की कुल आय आलोच्य तिमाही में 14.26 प्रतिशत बढ़कर 12,946.21 करोड़ रुपये रही जो इससे पूर्व वित्त वर्ष 2017-18 की इसी तिमाही में 11,329.74 करोड़ रुपये थी।

• कंपनी के अनुसार आलोच्य तिमाही में कृषि कारोबार में तिलहन, गेहूं और कॉफी में बेहतर कारोबार अवसर से आय में अच्छी वृद्धि हुई। इसके अलावा गत्ता तथा होटल क्षेत्र में अच्छी आय हुई। साथ ही रोजमर्रा के उपयोग के सामान के कारोबार में अच्छी वृद्धि से लभ पर सकारात्मक प्रभाव पड़ा।

Hinduja brothers named UK's wealthiest people for third time.

• The Hinduja brothers have been named the UK's wealthiest people for the third time, according to Sunday Times Rich List. Sri and Gopi Hinduja saw their wealth increase by £1.35 billion from last year to £22 billion (around ₹2 lakh crore). The Hinduja Group was founded in Mumbai in 1914 and operates in fields including oil, banking, IT and property.

Elon Musk's brain tech startup Neuralink raises $39 million.

• Neuralink, an American neurotechnology startup co-founded by Elon Musk, has raised $39 million of a planned $51 million funding round, Bloomberg said quoting a filing with the SEC. As per its LinkedIn, Neuralink is developing ultra-high bandwidth brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and computers. Notably, billionaire Elon Musk is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX.

AGREEMENTS AND MOUS:

India to sign pact with Mongolia to built its first petrochemical refinery.

• India and Mongolia are expected to sign an agreement this week for the construction of Mongolia’s first petrochemical refinery that is expected to cut some of its dependence on Russian fuel. When signed, the project will be the largest being undertaken by the government of India under its Lines of Credit programme, two people familiar with the matter said on Sunday.

• The petrochemical refinery -- near Sainshand in southern Dornogovi province -- is to be built at an approximate cost of $1.25 billion utilising the $1 billion line of credit announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ulan Bator in 2015. It is expected to be completed by 2022.

RBI proposes app to help visually challenged identify notes.

• The RBI has proposed to introduce a mobile application to help visually challenged citizens identify Indian currency notes, and has invited bids from technology firms for the same. The application should be searchable via voice option in all app stores, it said. Currently, intaglio printing-based identification marks on banknotes of ₹100 and above help the visually challenged recognise currency.

Emirates Chief Commercial Officer resigns after profit falls.

• Emirates Chief Commercial Officer Thierry Antinori has resigned, a company spokesperson said on Sunday, days after the Gulf airline announced its weakest profit in a decade. Emirates posted a 69% fall in 2018-19 profit amid rising fuel costs and slow passenger growth. Antinori, who joined Emirates in 2011, was responsible for commercial operations, the frequent flyer program and cargo division.

Lewis Hamilton wins Spanish Grand Prix, Bottas finishes second.

• Mercedes' British driver Lewis Hamilton clinched the title at the Spanish Grand Prix, also winning the extra point for the fastest lap at the race on Sunday. The race saw Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas finish second in the race, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen finishing in the third spot. This was the fifth straight 1-2 finish for Mercedes.

तीसरी बार ब्रिटेन के सबसे अमीर बने Hinduja Brothers, 2 लाख करोड़ रुपए की संपत्ति के हैं मालिक

• भारतीय मूल के अरबपति व्यापारी हिंदुजा ब्रदर्स (Hinduja brothers) लगातार तीसरी बार ब्रिटेन के सबसे अमीर व्यक्ति बने हैं। Sunday Times Rich List के मुताबिक पिछले साल उनकी संपत्ति में 1.356 अरब पाउंड (12,269 करोड़ रुपए) की वृद्धि हुई, जिसके बाद उनकी कुल संपत्ति 22 अरब पाउंड (तकरीबन 2 लाख करोड़ रुपए) हो गई। इससे पहले 2014 और 2017 में भी दोनों भाई ब्रिटन के सबसे अमीर व्यक्ति घोषित हुए थे।

कई क्षेत्रों में फैला हिंदुजा बंधुओं का कारोबार

• हिंदुजा ग्रुप (Hinduja Group) का गठन 1914 में मुंबई में हुआ था। इस समूह का कारोबार रक्षा, बैंकिंग, वाहन तथा बिजली क्षेत्रों में फैला है। चार हिंदुजा बंधुओं में से श्रीचंद हिंदुजा (83 वर्ष) और गोपीचंद हिंदुजा (79 वर्ष) 1979 में लंदन जाकर बस गए और वहां से करोबार संभाल रहे हैं। उनके तीसरे भाई प्रकाश हिंदुजा जिनेवा, स्विट्जरलैंड में समूह के फाइनेंस मैनेज करते हैं और चौथे भाई अशोक हिंदुजा भारत में कारोबार संभालते हैं।

एलोन मस्क का ब्रेन टेक स्टार्टअप न्यूरलंक 39 मिलियन डॉलर का-

• ब्लूमबर्ग ने SEC के साथ एक फाइलिंग को उद्धृत करते हुए कहा कि न्यूरॉन, एक अमेरिकन न्यूरोटेक्नोलोजी स्टार्टअप है, जिसकी स्थापना एलोन मस्क ने की थी, जिसने $ 39 मिलियन के फंडिंग राउंड में 39 मिलियन डॉलर जुटाए। अपने लिंक्डइन के अनुसार, न्यूरालिंक मानव और कंप्यूटर को जोड़ने के लिए अल्ट्रा-हाई बैंडविड्थ ब्रेन-मशीन इंटरफेस विकसित कर रहा है। विशेष रूप से, अरबपति एलोन मस्क टेस्ला और स्पेसएक्स के सीईओ हैं।

भारत ने अपनी पहली पेट्रोकेमिकल रिफाइनरी के निर्माण के लिए मंगोलिया के साथ संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

• भारत और मंगोलिया को मंगोलिया की पहली पेट्रोकेमिकल रिफाइनरी के निर्माण के लिए इस सप्ताह एक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर करने की उम्मीद है, जो रूसी ईंधन पर अपनी कुछ निर्भरता में कटौती करने की उम्मीद है। यह परियोजना भारत सरकार द्वारा अपने क्रेडिट कार्यक्रम के तहत सबसे बड़ा उपक्रम होगा।

• पेट्रोकेमिकल रिफाइनरी - दक्षिणी डोर्नोगोवी प्रांत में सेनशंड के पास - प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की 2015 में उलान हाटोर की यात्रा के दौरान घोषित $ 1 बिलियन लाइन क्रेडिट का उपयोग करते हुए $ 1.25 बिलियन की अनुमानित लागत पर बनाया जाना है। इसके 2022 तक पूरा होने की उम्मीद है।

बैंक और अर्थव्‍यवस्‍था:

आरबीआई ने दृष्टिबाधितों को पहचाने जाने वाले नोटों की मदद के लिए ऐप का प्रस्ताव दिया

• रिजर्व बैंक ने नेत्रहीन लोगों को नोटों की पहचान में मदद करने के लिये एक मोबाइल एप लाने का प्रस्ताव तैयार किया है।अभी देश में 10 रुपये, 20 रुपये, 50 रुपये, 100 रुपये, 200 रुपये, 500 रुपये और 2000 रुपये के नोट प्रचलन में हैं। इनके अलावा भारत सरकार एक रुपये के नोट भी जारी करती है। नोटों की पहचान करने में नेत्रहीन लोगों की मदद के लिये ‘इंटाग्लियो प्रिंटिंग’ यानी उभरे रूप से छपाई में 100 रुपये और इससे बड़ी राशि के नोट ही उपलब्ध है।रिजर्व बैंक ने मोबाइल एप बनाने के लिये तकनीकी कंपनियों से बोलियां मंगायी है।

• अमीरात के मुख्य वाणिज्यिक अधिकारी थिएरी एंटिनोरी ने इस्तीफा दे दिया है, कंपनी के प्रवक्ता ने रविवार को कहा, खाड़ी एयरलाइन द्वारा एक दशक में अपने सबसे कमजोर लाभ की घोषणा करने के बाद, बढ़ती ईंधन लागत और धीमी यात्री वृद्धि के बीच अमीरात ने 2018-19 में 69% की गिरावट दर्ज की। एंटीनोरी, जो 2011 में अमीरात में शामिल हुए, वाणिज्यिक संचालन, कार्यक्रम और कार्गो डिवीजन के लिए जिम्मेदार थे।

• आधुनिक नर्सिंग की जननी ‘फ्लोरेंस नाइटिंगेल’ की याद में प्रति वर्ष 12 मई को अंतरराष्ट्रीय नर्स दिवस (International Nurses Day) मनाया जाता है। इन्होंने मरीजों और रोगियों की सेवा की। प्राइमिया युद्ध के दौरान लालटेन लेकर घायल सैनिकों की प्राणप्रण से सेवा करने के कारण ही उन्हें ‘लेडी बिथ द लैम्प’ कहा गया।

• ब्रिटि‍श परिवार ने 12 मई 1820 को जन्मी फ्लोरेंस नाइटिंगेल अपनी सेवा भावना के लिए याद की जाती हैं. उन्होंने 1860 में सेंट टॉमस अस्पताल और नर्सों के लिए नाइटिंगेल प्रशिक्षण स्कू‍ल की स्थापना की थी. उनका निधन 13 अगस्त 1910 में लंदन में हुआ था।

• अंतरराष्ट्रीय नर्स दिवस के अवसर पर राष्ट्रपति प्रणब मुखर्जी ने 35 नर्सों को ‘राष्ट्रीय फ्लोरेंस नाइटिंगेल पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित किया. नर्सों की उल्लेखनीय सेवा को मान्यता देने के लिये केंद्रीय स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय ने वर्ष 1973 में यह पुरस्कार शुरू किया था. इस पुरस्कार के तहत प्रत्येक विजेता को पचास हज़ार रुपये नकद राशि, प्रशस्ति पत्र और एक पदक प्रदान किया जाता है। इस पुरस्कार से वर्ष 2014 तक कुल 306 नर्सों को सम्मातनित किया जा चुका है।

• India's richest man has sealed another deal in his battle with Amazon and Walmart for India's online retail market, which a Morgan Stanley estimate sees at $200 billion by 2028.

• On Thursday, Reliance agreed to purchase the 259-year-old British toy store chain Hamleys from C.Banner International Holdings for $88.5 million in cash in a transaction that will “catapult Reliance Brands to be a dominant player in the global toy retail industry,” said a statement.

• The 62-year-old businessman is quietly piecing together a network of partners through stake purchases or outright acquisitions in his push for consumer business, which Ambani says will contribute nearly as much as to the conglomerate’s total earnings as its core energy business by the end of 2028.

Ex-Flipkart execs' unicorn Udaan gets ₹139 crore from parent.

• Bengaluru-based B2B online marketplace Udaan has raised over ₹139 crore from Singapore-based parent firm Trustroot Internet. The parent entity has invested over ₹400 crore in Udaan in past five months. Founded in 2016 by former Flipkart executives Sujeet Kumar, Vaibhav Gupta and Amod Malviya, Udaan had achieved the 'unicorn' tag with a billion-dollar valuation within just 26 months of launch.

INTERNATIONAL:

Uber falls below $70bn value on 1st trading day, CEO blames trade war.

• Uber ended its first day of trading with a market cap of $69.7 billion, below its last private valuation of $76 billion. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said US-China trade tensions played a role in the stock's weak performance, adding, "You can't pick when you go public". Uber priced its IPO at $45 per share, valuing the company at $75.5 billion.

Japan tests world's fastest bullet train capable of 400 kmph speed.

• Japan has started testing world's fastest bullet train, the 'ALFA-X' version of the Shinkansen train, capable of reaching 400 kmph speed. It will be tested twice a week after midnight between Sendai and Aomori, which are around 280 kilometres apart. On entering operation, it will run at up to 360 kmph, outpacing China's Fuxing train, which runs 10 kmph slower.

RentoMojo raises ₹77 crore funding co-led by Accel, Chiratae.

• Bengaluru-based furniture and appliance rental startup RentoMojo has raised ₹77 crore in the first tranche of its Series C funding round, regulatory filings revealed. The funding was co-led by Chiratae Ventures and Accel Partners and also saw participation from existing investor Bain Capital. RentoMojo was founded in 2014 by IIT Madras graduates Geetansh Bamania and Ajay Nain.

• Shakti:

The first nuclear test Pokhran with a codenamed as ‘Smiling Buddha’ was carried out in May 1974. The second test conducted was Pokhran II which was a series of five tests of nuclear bomb explosions, administered by India at the Pokhran Test Range of Indian Army in May, 1998.

Pokhran II comprised of five detonations out of which the first one was a fusion bomb while the other four were fission bombs. These nuclear tests evolved various sanctions against India by many major states, including the United States and Japan.

• Why the day is celebrated?

On 11th of May, 1998, India victoriously test fired the nuclear missile, Shakti-I at the Pokhran Test Range of Indian Army in Rajasthan in an operation administered by late president and aerospace engineer Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. After two days, the country victoriously tested two additional nuclear weapons.

Following this, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced India as a nuclear state, making it sixth country in the world that has joined the nations “nuclear club” and the first country that was not party to the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty (NPT). NPT is a global treaty signed by the UK, Russia, China, France, and the US which has the objectives to prevent the increase of nuclear weapons and attain nuclear disarmament.

• Chennai Super Kings spinner Harbhajan Singh became the third Indian cricketer to claim 150 or more wickets in the history of Indian Premier League. Delhi Capitals' Amit Mishra with 157 wickets in 147 matches and Kolkata Knight Riders' Piyush Chawla, with 150 wickets in 157 matches, are the only two other Indians who have reached the mark.

World no. 3 Halep beats Bencic to reach 4th Madrid Open final.

• World number three Simona Halep defeated Belinda Bencic to reach her fourth Madrid Open final. Halep won the match with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-7(2-7), 6-0 in one hour and 57 minutes. The final will also be Halep's first of 2019. Bencic had defeated world number one Naomi Osaka in the quarter-finals.

Roger Federer beats Gael Monfils in Madrid to claim 1,200th win.

• Roger Federer on Thursday became the second player in Open Era (since April 1968) to record 1,200 match wins. The 20-time Grand Slam champion saved two match points against France's Gaël Monfils before clinching the match after a final-set tiebreak to reach quarterfinals of Madrid Open. Notably, the 37-year-old is playing in his first tournament on clay since May 2016.

• देश के सबसे बड़े कारोबारी और रिलायंस इंडस्ट्रीज के चेयरमैन मुकेश अंबानी अब खिलोनों के कारोबार में उतर गए हैं। अंबानी की कंपनी रिलायंस ब्रांड्स ने ब्रिटेन की 250 साल पुरानी खिलौने बेचने वाली कंपनी हैमलेज को खरीदने का करार किया है। ये सौदा 620 करोड़ रुपए (6.79 करोड़ पाउंड) में हुआ है।

• भारत में फिलहाल रिलायंस ही हैमलेज के 88 स्टोर चलाती है। ये देश के 29 शहरों में है। इसके साथ ही रिलायंस ने खिलौने के बाजार में पहली बार कदम रखा है। कंपनी के सीईओ दर्शन मेहता ने कहा कि हैमलेज को खरीद कर रिलायंस वैश्विक रिटेल खिलौना कारोबार की प्रमुख खिलाड़ी बन सकेगी।

दुनिया भर में अपनी तेज रफ्तार ट्रेनों के लिए सुर्खियों में रहने वाला जापान इन दिनों फिर चर्चा में है। जापान ने दुनिया की सबसे तेज शिन्कानसेन बुलेट ट्रेन का ट्रायल रन शुरू कर दिया है। यह ट्रेन 400 किलोमीटर प्रति घंटे की रफ्तार से दौड़ेगी। जापान ने अपनी इस नई ट्रेन को अल्फा- एक्स नाम दिया है। उम्मीद की जा रही है कि यह ट्रेन 2030 के आस-पास ऑपरेशन में आएगी। सीएनएन ने बताया कि इस शिन्कानसेन ट्रेन के अल्फा- एक्स वर्जन का ट्रायल रन 3 साल से ज्यादा समय तक चलेगा। जिसकी शुरुआत शुक्रवार से की गई है। इसके साथ ही यह ट्रेन चीन के बीजिंग और शांघाई को कनेक्ट करने वाली चर्चित ट्रेन फुक्सिंग होआ के मुकाबले 10 किमी तेज होगी।

IIT Bombay researchers developed first indigenous microprocessor AJIT.

• Engineers from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) have developed a microprocessor called AJIT which could reduce the country’s dependence on imports. It is the first to be conceptualised, designed, developed and manufactured in India.

• The project was funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and IIT Bombay. Powai Labs, a Mumbai-based company, has invested in the venture. It will own, market and support the product.

India’s electronics market is expected to reach $400 billion by 2020. Most of the electronic devices that are used are imported and only a quarter of the devices are produced in the country.

Noida-based edtech startup Classplus raises 11 crore.

• Noida-based edtech startup Classplus has raised around Rs.11 crore in pre-Series A funding led by Times Internet and GREE Ventures.

• Japanese VC firm Spiral Ventures and existing investor, Netherlands-based Rising Stars Fund also participated in the funding round.

• Classplus, launched as XPrep in 2015, was founded by Mukul Rustagi, Bhaswat Agarwal, Bikash Dash and Vatsal Rustagi.

India takes part in naval drill in S China Sea claimed by China.

• India, Japan, the US and the Philippines held naval drills in the South China Sea, nearly 90% of which is claimed by China.

• India deployed a destroyer, the INS Kolkata, and a tanker, the INS Shakti, in the nearly week-long multilateral drill, the US Navy said. Southeast Asian nations including Vietnam and Malaysia also lay claims over the sea.

BANKS AND ECONOMICS:

Reliance Industries loses 96,000 crore market value in four days.

• Shares of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries have fallen nearly 11% in the last four sessions, erasing about 96,000 crore in market value.

• With this fall in Reliance shares, Tata Consultancy Services has overtaken the company to become India's most valued firm with a market capitalisation of 8.14 lakh crore. Reliance's market cap stood at Rs.7.96 lakh crore.

ED probes Etihad investment in Jet Privilege.

• The ED is reportedly probing Etihad Airways' investment in Jet Airways' frequent-flyer programme, Jet Privilege.

• The agency is investigating whether Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) norms were violated when the Abu Dhabi-based carrier took a stake in the programme, reports said.

• Queries raised by the erstwhile FIPB to both the airlines immediately after the deal had gone unanswered, reports added.

Indias Jagjit Pavadia re-elected to the International Narcotics Control Board(INCB).

• Jagjit Pavadia, an Indian re-elected by the UN Economic and Social Council to a five year term on International Narcotics Control Board with the highest number of votes of 44 in the 54 member council.

• She will begin her term on March 2, next year.

• She was elected to the INCB for her first five year term in 2014. She has also served as the First Vice-President of the Board in 2016 and Chair of the Standing Committee on Estimates in 2015 and 2017.

World Thalassaemia Day was observed on 8th May.

• 8th May is observed as World Thalassaemia Day globally every year. The theme for 2019 was Universal access to quality thalassaemia healthcare services: Building bridges with and for the patient.

The day is observed to raise awareness about thalassaemia, its prevention, and measures to avoid its transmission among people throughout the world. It is observed in honour of all patients suffering and fighting from thalassaemia and also all scientists working hard to provide improved quality of life to people suffering with it.

• Thalassemia:

Thalassemias are inherited blood disorders characterized by abnormal hemoglobin production.

Since it is an inheritable disease so cannot be prevented completely however, it can be lessened through the prenatal tests which helps in the early detection and cure before the childbirth.

There are two main types:

1. Alpha thalassemia

2. Beta thalassemia

Symptoms depend on the type and can vary from none to severe.

• Often there is mild to severe anemia (low red blood cells).

• There may also be bone problems, an enlarged spleen, yellowish skin, and dark urine.

• Slow growth may occur in children.

Treatments include blood transfusions, iron chelation, and folic acid.

• भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान बॉम्बे (IIT बॉम्बे) के इंजीनियरों ने AJIT नामक एक माइक्रोप्रोसेसर विकसित किया है जो आयात पर देश की निर्भरता को कम कर सकता है। यह भारत में पहली बार वैचारिक रूप से डिजाइन, विकसित और निर्मित किया गया है।

• नोएडा स्थित एडटेक स्टार्टअप क्लासप्लस ने टाइम्स इंटरनेट और जीआरई वेंचर्स के नेतृत्व वाली प्री-सीरीज़ ए फंडिंग में लगभग 11 करोड़ रुपये जुटाए हैं।

• जापानी वीसी फर्म सर्पिल वेंचर्स और मौजूदा निवेशक, नीदरलैंड स्थित राइजिंग स्टार्स फंड ने भी फंडिंग राउंड में भाग लिया।

ED ने जेट प्रिविलेज – लाइवमिंट में एतिहाद एयरवेज के निवेश की जांच की

• वित्त मंत्रालय के प्रवर्तन निदेशालय (ईडी) ने जेट प्रिविलेज प्राइवेट लिमिटेड में एतिहाद एयरवेज पीजेएससी के निवेश की प्रारंभिक जांच शुरू कर दी है।

• ईडी के एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने नाम न छापने की शर्त पर कहा कि देश की शीर्ष आर्थिक खुफिया एजेंसी यह पता लगाने की कोशिश कर रही है कि क्या अबू धाबी स्थित वाहक ने जेपीपीएल में 2014 में हिस्सेदारी लेने के दौरान कुछ प्रत्यक्ष विदेशी निवेश (एफडीआई) मानदंडों का उल्लंघन किया था।

ISRO planning to send a probe to study sun early next year

• Indian Space Research Organizationis planning to send a probe to study the sun early next year.ISRO chairman Dr K Sivan currently scientists are exploring possibilities to study more about Sun and the probe named Aditya-L1 will be sent to observe the solar corona, the outer layers of the Sun.

• The satellite would be ed in a halo orbit around the L1 (Lagrangian point 1) of the Sun-Earth system so that it has the advantage of continuously viewing the Sun without any occultation or eclipses.

• The L1 is 1.5 million kms from t the mission to send Indian astronauts to space by 2022 is well on stream. The provided by ISRO, officials were able to forecast the landfall area and this helped in taking precautionary measures in advance.

NHA sets up unit to boost innovations

• The National Health Authority (NHA), the implementing body for the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (AB-PMJAY), has set up a unit to promote innovations that reduce dependence on imported technologies to make quality health care affordable.

• The NHA “innovation unit” comprises a four-member team that will sift through applications from start-ups, including organisations and individuals, offering technologies that lower cost. Ayushman Bharat is the Modi government’s flagship public health insurance scheme.

• “Lot of start-ups offer affordable health care by innovating on expensive technologies that exist. Many have approached us with proposals to develop cost-effective machines, gadgets, diagnostic kits, data privacy technology etc to bring down the cost significantly,” said Dinesh Arora, deputy CEO, Ayushman Bharat.

Odisha death toll in Cyclone Fani rises to 16; Puri without power, water

• A day after Cyclone Fani wreaked havoc at the pilgrim town of Puri with wind speed in excess of 220 km per hour, the district administration still grappling with the devastation which includes damage to parts of the Jagannath temple.

• So far 16 people across Odisha have been killed in the cyclone due to wall collapse, falling of trees and flying debris. But officials said the death toll may go up as rescuers are unable to reach several places of the coastal districts which are still inaccessible.

• “Till now we are unable to reach disconnected blocks like Krushnsprasad, Bramhagiri and Astaranga. Though we have managed to somehow clear the national highway connecting Bhubaneswar and the roads in the town, many interior roads are still inaccessible.

Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin discuss new nuclear accord possibly including China

• U.S. President Donald Trump said he and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed on Friday the possibility of a new accord limiting nuclear arms that could eventually include China in what would be a major deal between the globe’s top three atomic powers.

• Trump, speaking to reporters as he met in the Oval Office with Peter Pellegrini, prime minister of the Slovak Republic, also said he and Putin discussed efforts to persuade North Korea to give up nuclear weapons, the political discord in Venezuela, and Ukraine during a call that stretched over an hour.

• The 2011 New START treaty, the only U.S.-Russia arms control pact limiting deployed strategic nuclear weapons, expires in February 2021 but can be extended for five years if both sides agree. Without the agreement, it could be harder to gauge each other’s intentions, arms control advocates say.

Huawei overtook Apple to become Worlds 2nd largest smartphone maker

• The Chinese electronics giant Huawei has surpassed Apple to become the No. 2 smartphone vendor worldwide, according to statistics from the International Data Corp. (IDC).

• South Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung continues to top the list with 20.9% market share.

• Huawei was the only smartphone maker in the top three that saw an increase in shipments in the first quarter of 2019.The company saw year-over-year growth of 50.3% in the first quarter and claimed 19% of the worldwide market share.

Apple holds 11.7% of the worldwide market share as of the first quarter of 2019, while Huawei now claims 19%.

• Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi sits on the fourth position in the list.

The fifth position is captured by another Chinese smartphone maker - Oppo.

• The World Press Freedom Prize also known as UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize 2019 is formally conferred every year by Director-General of UNESCO, on occasion of World Press Freedom Day observed on 3 May.

• In 2019 award would be shared by two jailed Myanmar journalists Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo who reported on alleged human rights violations in the state of Rakhine, Myanmar. The Reuters reporters are serving a seven-year prison sentence in Myanmar. They are charged with breaking the country's secrets law for their journalistic investigation on the military's brutal crackdown and killings of Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine state.

• Recognised for:

The award recognises their exceptional courage in reporting on alleged human rights violations in the Myanmar's state of Rakhine. Both Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo's documentary on the taboo topic regarding crimes committed against Rohingyas landed them behind the bars. The award paid a tribute to their courage, resistance and commitment to freedom of expression.

ओडिशा में ‘फनि’ चक्रवात की चपेट में आने से 40 लोगों की मौत, बड़े पैमाने पर राहत कार्य जारी

• ओडिशा में चक्रवाती तूफान ‘फनि’ की चपेट में आकर मरने वालों की संख्या शनिवार को बढ़कर 40 पर पहुंच गई है। राज्य के लगभग 10,000 गांवों और 52 शहरी क्षेत्रों में युद्धस्तर पर राहत एवं पुनर्वास कार्य प्रारंभ कर दिए गए हैं और इस तूफान से करीब एक करोड़ लोग प्रभावित हुए हैं। यह चक्रवाती तूफान अत्यधिक शक्तिशाली माना जा रहा है और तटीय क्षेत्र पुरी में शुक्रवार को टकराया था। माना जा रहा है कि यह चक्रवात ग्रीष्म कालीन चक्रवातों में ‘दुर्लभ से दुर्लभतम’ श्रेणी का है और बीते 43 सालों में पहली बार ओडिशा पहुंचने वाला पहला और बीते 150 सालों में आए तीन सबसे ताकतवर तूफानों में से एक है।

• अधिकारियों ने बताया कि 240 किलोमीटर प्रति घंटे की रफ्तार से चल रहे इस भीषण चक्रवाती तूफान की वजह से शुक्रवार को पुरी में तेज बारिश और आंधी आई। तूफान के कमजोर पड़ने और पश्चिम बंगाल में प्रवेश करने से पहले इसकी चपेट में आए कस्बों और गांवों में बहुत से घरों की छतें उड़ गईं और कई मकान पूरी तरह से नष्ट हो गए। इससे पहले 1999 में सुपर साइक्लोन आया था जिसकी वजह से दस हजारों लोगों की मौत हो गई थी और एक बहुत बड़े क्षेत्र में विनाशलीला हुई थी।

• अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप ने कहा है कि वे और उनके रूसी समकक्ष व्लादिमीर पुतिन एक संभावित त्रिपक्षीय परमाणु समझौते पर चर्चा कर रहे हैं जिसमें चीन भी शामिल होगा। ट्रंप ने शुक्रवार को वेनेजुएला सहित विभिन्न मुद्दों पर पुतिन के साथ लगभग एक घंटे की चर्चा के बाद कहा कि बातचीत पहले अमेरिका और रूस के बीच शुरू होगी और चीन इसमें बाद में शामिल होगा।

• इंटरनेशनल डेटा कार्पोरेशन (IDC) के आंकड़ों के अनुसार, चीनी इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स दिग्गज हुआवेई ने दुनिया भर में नंबर 2 स्मार्टफोन विक्रेता बनने के साथ ही Apple को पीछे छोड़ दिया है।

• दक्षिण कोरियाई उपभोक्ता इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स दिग्गज सैमसंग 20.9% बाजार हिस्सेदारी के साथ सूची में शीर्ष पर बना हुआ है।

• Huawei शीर्ष तीन में एकमात्र स्मार्टफोन निर्माता था जिसने 2019 की पहली तिमाही में शिपमेंट में वृद्धि देखी। कंपनी ने पहली तिमाही में 50.3% की साल-दर-साल वृद्धि देखी और दुनिया भर में बाजार हिस्सेदारी का 19% का दावा किया।

• 2019 की पहली तिमाही में Apple की दुनिया भर में 11.7% हिस्सेदारी है, जबकि Huawei ने अब 19% का दावा किया है।

HealthKart to raise 173 cr from Belgium's Advent Management.

• Gurugram-based health and fitness products platform HealthKart is raising about ₹173 crore from Belgium-based Advent Management, Entrackr revealed. It has raised around ₹346 crore worth preference and equity capital since July last year.

Healthkart was founded by Prashant Tandon and Sameer Maheshwari in 2011 after raising $1 million from Kae Capital and Sequoia Capital.

Vodafone Idea signs multi-million dollar IT deal with IBM.

• India's largest telecom operator Vodafone Idea Ltd on Friday announced a five-year multi-million-dollar IT outsourcing deal with tech giant IBM.

• "This engagement will also contribute to Vodafone Idea's merger synergy objectives by reducing its IT related costs," the telecom firm said in a statement.

• The company did not divulge the size of the deal but some reports pegged it at about $700 million.

RBI imposed penalty on 5 pre paid payment instrument issuers and Yes Bank.

• The Reserve Bank of India imposed a monetary penalty on five pre-paid payment instrument issuersincluding Vodafone m-pesa and Phonepe, for violating regulatory guidelines. A penalty of Rs.3.05 crore has been imposed on Vodafone m-pesa and Rs. 1 crore each on Mobile Payments, PhonePe and G.I.

• Technology Private Ltd. Also, a penalty of Rs. 5 lakh has been imposed on Y-Cash Software Solutions.

• RBI said it had imposed a penalty of Rs. 29.67 lakh on Western Union Financial Services Inc., USA., and Rs. 10.12 lakh on MoneyGram Payment Systems Inc, USA, for non-compliance of regulatory guidelines.

• The penalties on Western Union and MoneyGram had been imposed by the central bank under the provisions of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, for compounding of the contravention.

Myntra appoints Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma as first brand ambassadors.

• Flipkart-owned fashion e-commerce platform Myntra n Friday announced that it had appointed celebrity couple Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma as its first brand ambassadors.

• The platform declined to reveal the brand deal size or period of association. According to celebrity management sector estimates, Myntra may be shelling out upwards of ₹10 crore for the couple as brand endorsement fee.

• वोडाफोन-आइडिया ने आईबीएम से 5 साल की आईटी आउटसोर्सिंग डील की है। कंपनी ने इसकी वैल्यू नहीं बताई है लेकिन कुछ रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक करीब 70 करोड़ डॉलर (4830 करोड़ रुपए) में यह डील हुई है। वोडाफोन-आइडिया का कहना है कि इस डील से आईटी संबंधी खर्च घटाने में मदद मिलेगी।

• आईबीएम से डील के जरिए वोडाफोन-आइडिया को हाईब्रिड क्लाउड बेस्ड डिजिटल प्लेटफॉर्म मिलेगा। इससे बिजनेस को प्रभावी और आसान बनाने में मदद मिलेगी।

• वोडाफोन-आइडिया के 38.7 करोड़ सब्सक्राइबर हैं। कंपनी का कहना है कि नए डिजिटल प्लेटफॉर्म से डेटा की खपत बढ़ने का दबाव कम होगा। इससे ग्राहकों के लिए बेहतर सुविधाएं देना भी संभव हो पाएगा।

• बर्कशायर हैथवे के चेयरमैन और मशहूर निवेशक वॉरेन बफे (88) का कहना है कि उन्होंने अमेजन के फाउंडर जेफ बेजोस को कमतर आंका था। बफे ने गुरुवार को एक इंटरव्यू में बताया कि उनकी कंपनी ने अमेजन के शेयर खरीदे हैं। इसी महीने रेग्युलेटरी फाइलिंग में इसकी जानकारी दी जाएगी। साथ ही कहा कि वो अमेजन के फैन हो गए हैं। कंपनी के शेयर खरीदने में देरी करना उनकी गलती थी।

RBI रेगुलेटरी गाइडेंस उल्लंघन के मामले में 5 PPI दंडित

• इस सूची में एम-पेसा, फोनपे, मनीग्राम, वेस्टर्न यूनियन फिन सर्विस शामिल हैं।

• भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक ने विनियामक मानदंडों के उल्लंघन के लिए वोडाफोन एम-पेसा और फोनपे सहित पांच प्रीपेड पेमेंट इंस्ट्रूमेंट (PPI) जारीकर्ताओं पर जुर्माना लगाया है। दिशानिर्देशों का पालन न करने के सिलसिले में दो अमेरिकी फर्मों वेस्टर्न यूनियन फाइनेंशियल सर्विसेज इंक और मनीग्राम पेमेंट सिस्टम्स इंक, पर भी जुर्माना लगाया गया है। RBI ने निजी क्षेत्र के ऋणदाता यस बैंक पर 11.25 लाख का जुर्माना भी लगाया है जो कि PPI जारी करने और संचालन से संबंधित मानदंडों के उल्लंघन के लिए है।

• निपटान प्रणाली अधिनियम, 2007 की धारा – 30 के तहत आरबीआई की सजा:

केंद्रीय बैंक ने निपटान प्रणाली अधिनियम, 2007 के तहत नियामक मानदंडों के उल्लंघन के लिए 5 PPI को दंडित किया है। इस सूची में नियामक मानदंडों के गैर अनुपालन के लिए कुछ वित्तीय संस्थान भी शामिल हैं। वोडाफोन एम-पेसा पर 3.05 करोड़ का जुर्माना और मोबाइल पेमेंट फोनपे, प्राइवेट और जीआई टेक्नोलॉजी पर एक-एक करोड़ का जुर्माना लगाया गया है। साथ ही वाई-कैश सॉफ्टवेयर सॉल्यूशंस पर 5 लाख का जुर्माना लगाया गया है। RBI ने विनियामक दिशानिर्देशों का पालन न करने पर क्रमशः वेस्टर्न यूनियन फाइनेंशियल सर्विसेज इंक, USA, और मनीग्राम पेमेंट सिस्टम्स इंक, USA पर 29,66,959 और 10,11,653 का जुर्माना लगाया है। RBI द्वारा पेमेंट एंड सेटलमेंट सिस्टम्स एक्ट, 2007 के प्रावधानों के तहत, कॉन्ट्रिब्यूशन कंपाउंडिंग के लिए वेस्टर्न यूनियन और मनीग्राम पर जुर्माना लगाया गया है। RBI ने निजी क्षेत्र के ऋणदाता यस बैंक पर 11.25 लाख का जुर्माना भी लगाया है जो PPI जारी करने और संचालन से संबंधित मानदंडों के उल्लंघन के लिए है।

Japan got its new emperor Naruhito.

• The new emperor, Naruhito (59-year-old), on 1st May received the sacred imperial regalia that represents his rightful succession to the world’s oldest monarchy, Tokyo, Japan. Emperor Akihito of Japan formally stepped down on 30th April 2019 as his son Naruhito prepared to take the Chrysanthemum Throne and usher in a new imperial era.

Pakistan named its retaliatory action against India on February 27 as Operation Swift Retort.

• Pakistan Air Force announced that they will observe its retaliatory action against India against the Balakot strike of Indian Air Force as ‘Operation Swift Retort’.

The Indian air strikes at Balakot terror camp on February 26 was response of Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) attack by a suicide bomber in Pulwama that killed 40 CRPF jawans.

In response to Indian attack, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) retaliated and captured IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman who was released by Pakistan on March 1.

AGREEMENT AND MOU's:

Varuna 19.1, Indo French joint naval exercise, began in Goa.

• Varuna 19.1 is the first part of the Indo-French joint naval exercise. It is being held off the Goa coast from 1st to 10th May 2019.

The exercise will see the participation of the French Navy's aircraft carrier FNS Charles de Gaulle, two destroyers, FNS Forbin and FNS Provence, the frigate FNS Latouche-Treville, the tanker FNS Marne and a nuclear submarine. From the Indian side, the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, destroyer INS Mumbai, the Teg-class frigate, INS Tarkash, the Shishumar- class submarine, INS Shankul, and the Deepak- class fleet tanker, INS Deepak, are taking part in the exercise.

BANKS AND ECONOMICS:

Bandhan Bank to cut promoter holding to 40% through offer-for-sale route.

• Bandhan Bank will reduce its promoter holding to the mandated level of 40% through the offer-for-sale (OFS) route and is not looking at any more acquisitions at the moment, said managing director and CEO Chandra Shekhar Ghosh.

• Speaking to reporters after announcing the bank’s Q4 FY19 results, Ghosh said, “We cannot go for any further acquisition and the option is to have an offer for sale."

Viacom18 appoints Gourav Rakshit as Viacom18 Digital Ventures COO.

• Film, television and digital content conglomerate Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd on Wednesday announced the appointment of Gourav Rakshit as chief operating officer for its digital arm, Viacom18 Digital Ventures. Rakshit will join the organisation in May and report to Sudhanshu Vats, Group CEO and managing director, Viacom18.

• An alumnus of the University of Rochester and IIM Ahmadabad, Rakshit is currently serving as president and chief executive officer of People Group that owns and operates online wedding service Shaadi.com.

• पाकिस्तान वायु सेना ने घोषणा की कि वे 27 फरवरी को भारतीय वायु सेना की बालाकोट हमले के खिलाफ अपनी जवाबी कार्रवाई को ‘ऑपरेशन स्विफ्ट रिटॉर्ट’ के रूप में मानेंगे।

• 26 फरवरी को बालाकोट आतंकी शिविर में भारतीय हवाई हमला पुलवामा में आत्मघाती हमलावर द्वारा पाकिस्तान आधारित जैश-ए-मोहम्मद (जेएम) हमले के जवाब में किया गया था, जिसमें 40 सीआरपीएफ जवान मारे गए थे।

• भारतीय हमले के जवाब में, पाकिस्तान वायु सेना (पीएएफ) ने जवाबी कार्रवाई की और आईएएफ विंग कमांडर अभिनंदन वर्थमान को पकड़ लिया, जिन्हें 1 मार्च को पाकिस्तान ने रिहा कर दिया था।

• Reliance Jio is reportedly aiming to launch a ‘Super App’ that will provide over 100 services in one platform. The report said the app will let users order goods and services on it and pay bills using in-app payment services. Reports added that launching the app will put Reliance in a position to replicate China's WeChat in India.

OYO buys 51% stake in Europe's @Leisure for ₹1,400 crore.

• Indian hotel startup OYO has agreed to buy a 51% stake in European vacation rental group @Leisure from German media company Axel Springer for ₹1,400 crore. @Leisure manages holiday homes, holiday parks and holiday apartments across Europe and has a total inventory of more than 3 lakh rooms. OYO now has presence in more than 800 cities across 24 countries.

Flipkart in talks to buy grocery chain Namdhari's Fresh: Reports.

• Walmart-owned e-commerce giant Flipkart is in talks to buy Bengaluru-based grocery chain Namdhari's Fresh, as per reports. While Walmart is said to have held talks with Namdhari's, the acquisition will be made through Flipkart, reports said. Namdhari's operates over 30 stores in Bengaluru, and the acquisition will help Flipkart expand its food and grocery segment, reports added.

L&T buys Coffee Day & its Founder's stake in Mindtree for ₹3,210 cr.

• Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has purchased a 20% stake in Bengaluru-based IT services firm Mindtree from Coffee Day and its Founder VG Siddhartha for about ₹3,210 crore. The infrastructure major is aiming to acquire an up to 66% stake in Mindtree for ₹10,730 crore. L&T's hostile bid to acquire controlling stake in Mindtree is the first in India's IT industry.

Bengaluru logistics startup BlackBuck raises ₹1,043 crore.

Bengaluru-based logistics startup BlackBuck has raised about ₹1,043 crore in Series D funding round led by Goldman Sachs Investment Partners and Accel. Sequoia Capital, B Capital, among others also participated in the round which reportedly values the startup at just under $1 billion. BlackBuck was founded in 2015 by IIT-Kharagpur alumni Rajesh Yabaji, Chanakya Hridaya and Ramasubramanian B.

April GST collections at ₹1.13 lakh crore, highest since rollout.

• The Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in April touched ₹1.13 lakh crore, the highest since the nationwide levy was rolled out in July 2017. The revenue in April is 16% higher than the monthly average GST revenue of ₹98,114 crore in 2018-19. This is the fifth time the collections crossed ₹1 lakh crore since GST rollout.

INTERNATIONAL:

Pentagon to send 320 more troops to US-Mexico border.

• The US Defence Department announced that it would deploy around 320 additional troops to the southern border with Mexico to support immigration officials.

The troops, set to deploy until the end of September, will add to around 2,900 active duty military and 2,000 National Guard members currently posted to the border.

The Pentagon spokesman said, the troops would assist with transporting migrants, monitoring the welfare of migrants in custody and providing heating and meals.

Airtel Africa reports $83 million profit in March quarter.

• Airtel Africa, a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, on Tuesday reported a profit of $83 million for the March quarter, as against a loss of $49 million a year earlier. The company's revenue grew 6% to $781 million. Qatar Investment Authority invested $200 million in the company during the quarter, taking funds raised as pre-IPO private placement to $1.45 billion.

Air Marshal RKS Bhadauria takes over as Vice Chief of Air Staff.

• Air Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria took over as Vice Chief of the Air Staff on Wednesday, succeeding Air Marshal Anil Khosla. Bhadauria has over 4,250 hours of experience on 26 types of fighters and transport aircraft. He was reportedly the Chairman of India's negotiating team for the Rafale deal with France.

• Eric Schmidt will not seek re-election to the board when his term expires in June, but will continue to advise on technical matters

• Schmidt's net worth is estimated to be around $14 billion by Forbes

• रिलायंस इंडस्ट्रीज (RIL) के चेयरमैन और मैनेजिंग डायरेक्टर मुकेश अंबानी दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा ऑनलाइन-टू-ऑफलाइन नया ई-कॉमर्स प्लैटफॉर्म अधिकारिक रूप से लॉन्च करने की तैयारी में हैं। यह ऐमजॉन और वॉलमार्ट-फ्लिपकार्ट को झटका देने वाला होगा। रिलायंस जियो एक 'सुपर ऐप' पर काम कर रही है। रिलायंस जियो का यह सुपर ऐप एक प्लैटफॉर्म पर 100 से ज्यादा सर्विसेज उपलब्ध कराएगा।

सुपर ऐप से बढ़ेगा रिलायंस का दबदबा

किराना चेन नामधारी की फ्रेश: रिपोर्ट खरीदने के लिए बातचीत में फ्लिपकार्ट।

• वॉलमार्ट के स्वामित्व वाली ई-कॉमर्स दिग्गज फ्लिपकार्ट की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, बेंगलुरु स्थित किराने की चेन नामधारी की फ्रेश खरीदने के लिए बातचीत चल रही है। हालांकि वॉलमार्ट ने कहा है कि नामधारी के साथ बातचीत हुई है, अधिग्रहण फ्लिपकार्ट के माध्यम से किया जाएगा। रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि नामधारी बेंगलुरु में 30 से अधिक दुकानों का संचालन करता है और अधिग्रहण से फ्लिपकार्ट को अपने भोजन और किराना क्षेत्र का विस्तार करने में मदद मिलेगी।

विकीलीक्स के संस्थापक जूलियन असांज को 50 सप्ताह की सजा, जमानत की शर्तों के उल्लंघन का मामला

• ब्रिटेन की एक अदालत ने जमानत शर्तों का उल्लंघन करने के मामले में विकीलीक्स के सह-संस्थापक जूलियन असांज को बुधवार को 50 सप्ताह की सजा सुनाई। पिछले महीने लंदन की वेस्टमिन्स्टर मजिस्ट्रेट अदालत ने 47 वर्षीय ऑस्ट्रेलियाई नागरिक असांज को ब्रिटेन की जमानत अधिनियम का उल्लंघन करने का दोषी पाया था। स्वीडन में यौन उत्पीड़न के एक मामले में मिली जमानत के बाद उन्होंने इक्वेडोर के दूतावास में 2012 से शरण ले रखी थी। पिछले महीने इक्वेडोर ने और अधिक समय तक शरण देने से इनकार कर दिया था।

बेंगलुरु लॉजिस्टिक्स स्टार्टअप ब्लैकबक ने ₹ 1,043 करोड़ जुटाए

• बेंगलुरु स्थित लॉजिस्टिक्स स्टार्टअप ब्लैकबक ने गोल्डमैन सैक्स इन्वेस्टमेंट पार्टनर्स और एक्सेल के नेतृत्व में सीरीज डी फंडिंग राउंड में लगभग 1,043 करोड़ जुटाए। सिकोइया कैपिटल, बी कैपिटल, अन्य लोगों ने भी उस दौर में भाग लिया जो कथित तौर पर स्टार्टअप को महज $ 1 बिलियन से कम का मानती है। ब्लैकबक की स्थापना 2015 में आईआईटी-खड़गपुर के पूर्व छात्र राजेश याबजी, चाणक्य हृदय और रामासुब्रमण्यम बी द्वारा की गई थी।

अप्रैल में जीएसटी से सरकार को 1.13 लाख करोड़ रु. मिले, लगातार दूसरे महीने रिकॉर्ड कलेक्शन

• अप्रैल में सरकार को गुड्स एंड सर्विसेज टैक्स (जीएसटी) से 1.13 लाख करोड़ रुपए मिले हैं। यह अब तक का सबसे ज्यादा कलेक्शन है। पिछला रिकॉर्ड इसी साल मार्च महीने का है। तब जीएसटी से 1.06 लाख करोड़ रुपए मिले थे। जुलाई 2017 में जीएसटी लागू हुआ था।

अंतरराष्ट्रीय:

पेंटागन ने यूएस-मैक्सिको सीमा पर 320 और सैनिकों को भेजा।

• अमेरिकी रक्षा विभाग ने घोषणा की कि वह आव्रजन अधिकारियों का समर्थन करने के लिए मैक्सिको के साथ दक्षिणी सीमा पर लगभग 320 अतिरिक्त सैनिकों को तैनात करेगा।

सैनिकों, सितंबर के अंत तक तैनात करने के लिए सेट, वर्तमान में सीमा पर तैनात लगभग 2,900 सक्रिय ड्यूटी सैन्य और 2,000 नेशनल गार्ड के सदस्यों को जोड़ देगा।

• पेंटागन के प्रवक्ता ने कहा, सैनिक प्रवासियों के परिवहन में मदद करेंगे, हिरासत में प्रवासियों के कल्याण की निगरानी करेंगे और हीटिंग और भोजन प्रदान करेंगे।

एयरटेल अफ्रीका ने कमाया 580 करोड़ का मुनाफा

• भारती एयरटेल को अफ्रीकी बिजनेस से मार्च तिमाही में 8.3 करोड़ डॉलर यानी 580 करोड़ रुपये का मुनाफा हुआ है। साल भर पहले की इसी तिमाही में अफ्रीकी बिजनेस से कंपनी को 4.9 करोड़ डॉलर का घाटा हुआ था। मार्च तिमाही में एयरटेल अफ्रीका के मुनाफे में डेटा सर्विसेज की खपत और एयरटेल मनी प्लेटफॉर्म पर लेनदेन बढ़ने का बड़ा योगदान है।

आतंक के आका मसूद अजहर के बुरे दिन शुरू, बैन के बाद अब होगा ये असर

• पिछले काफी समय से भारत की मांग रही है कि जैश-ए-मोहम्मद प्रमुख मसूद अजहर को ग्लोबल आतंकवादी घोषित किया जाए लेकिन अभी तक चीन इस राह में रोड़ा अटका रहा था लेकिन आखिरकार भारत को इस मामले में बड़ी सफलता हासिल हो ही गई। चीन की सहमति के बाद संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने मसूद अजहर को ग्लोबल टेररिस्ट घोषित कर दिया है। पिछले एक दशक में, यह पांचवीं बार है जब संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद की प्रतिबंध समिति ने पाकिस्तान स्थित जैश-ए-मोहम्मद प्रमुख मसूद अजहर को ग्लोबल आतंकवादी के रूप में नामित करने पर विचार किया और आखिरकार इस प्रस्ताव पर मुहर लग ही गई।

• एयर मार्शल आरकेएस भदौरिया 1 मई, 2019 से भारतीय वायुसेना (IAF) के उप-प्रमुख (Vice Chief) का पदभार संभाल लेंगे। 15 जून 1980 को आईएएफ की फाइटर स्ट्रीम में कमीशंड भदौरिया फिलहाल बैंगलोर में भारतीय वायुसेना के प्रशिक्षण कमांड के मुखिया हैं। उन्हें 4,250 घंटे उड़ान का अनुभव है। उन्हें सॉर्ड ऑफ ऑनर से सम्मानित किया जा चुका है।

एरिक श्मिट 18 साल बाद बोर्ड मेंबर का पद छोड़ेंगे, कहा- नए टैलेंट को मौका देना चाहता हूं

• गूगल के पूर्व सीईओ एरिक श्मिट (64) इस साल जून में कंपनी के बोर्ड मेंबर का पद भी छोड़ देंगे। वो मार्च 2001 से बोर्ड में हैं। श्मिट 2001 से 2011 तक गूगल के सीईओ रहे थे।उनका कहना है कि वो नए टैलेंट को मौका देना चाहते हैं। पिछले साल की शुरुआत में उन्होंने गूगल की पेरेंट कंपनी अल्फाबेट के चेयरमैन पद से इस्तीफा दिया था। फिलहाल वो टेक्निकल एडवाइजर की भूमिका में हैं और बोर्ड की सदस्यता छोड़ने के बाद भी सलाहकार बने रहेंगे।

• अंतर्राष्ट्रीय श्रम दिवस को मई दिवस के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। यह 1 मई को दुनिया भर में अंतरराष्ट्रीय श्रम संघों को बढ़ावा देने और प्रोत्साहित करने के लिए मनाया जाता है। इस वर्ष अंतर्राष्ट्रीय श्रमिक दिवस 2018 का विषय है – सबसे लिए स्थायी पेंशन : सामाजिक पार्टनर्स की भूमिका (Sustainable Pension for All : The Role of Social Partners) है।

अंतर्राष्ट्रीय श्रम दिवस

सबसे पहले 4 मई 1886 को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय श्रम दिवस विश्व स्तर पर मनाया गया था। वर्ष 1886 में शिकागो (अमरीका) में श्रमिक आठ घंटे की कार्य दिवस के लिए आम हड़ताल पर थे और पुलिस आम जनता की भीड़ को फैलाने का काम कर रही थी। अचानक भीड़ पर तभी एक अज्ञात व्यक्ति ने एक बम फेंक दिया. यह देख कर पुलिस ने मजदूरों पर गोलीबारी शुरू कर दी। कुछ प्रदर्शनकारियों की गोलीबारी से मौत हो गई। इस घटना के बाद मजदूरों को 8 घण्‍टे से ज्‍यादा काम करने पर मनाही की गयी थी। शिकागो में शहीद हुए मजदूरों की कुर्बानियों को याद करते हुए इस दिन पुष्प अर्पित करके श्रद्धांजलि दी जाती है। अमरीका में शहीदों ने अपने संघर्ष से 8 घंटे ड्यूटी का अधिकार दिलाया था।
