People, non-governmental organizations and governments unite on World No Tobacco Day to draw attention to the health problems that tobacco use can cause. It is held on May 31 each year.

•    World No Tobacco Day is a day for people, non-governmental organizations and governments organize various activities to make people aware of the health problems that tobacco use can cause. These activities include:
•    Public marches and demonstrations, often with vivid banners.
•    Advertising campaigns and educational programs.
•    People going into public places to encourage people to stop smoking.
•    The introduction of bans on smoking in particular places or types of advertising.
•    Meetings for anti-tobacco campaigners.
•    Moreover, laws restricting smoking in particular areas may come into effect and wide reaching health campaigns may be launched.

The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers 2016 was observed on 29 May 2016 with the theme Honouring Our Heroes.
•    The day offers a chance to pay tribute to the Blue Helmets’ invaluable contribution to the work of the Organization and to honour more than 3400 peacekeepers who have lost their lives serving under the UN flag since 1948, including 128 in 2015.
•    On the other hand, the UN Postal Administration (UNPA) also issued a set of six new stamps for the occasion.
•    Honour the memory of the UN peacekeepers who have lost their lives in the cause of peace.
•    Pay tribute to all the men and women who have served and continue to serve in UN peacekeeping operations for their high level of professionalism, dedication and courage.
•    The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers was so designated by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 57/129, on 11 December 2002.
•    It was designated after an official request of the Ukrainian Peacekeepers Association and the Government of Ukraine to the UN General Assembly.
•    The day was first celebrated in 2003.
•    The date, May 29, marks the anniversary of the creation of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in 1948 to monitor the ceasefire after the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, which was the first ever UN peacekeeping mission.

Menstrual Hygiene means all of the ways that you manage your monthly cycle: from the products you use, to the way you clean them, to how it impacts your day-to-day life. •    It is rather a lack of knowledge and the ability to access sanitary products can have serious negative consequences for some menstruating people. 
•    Menstruation affects about half of the world’s population; yet in many parts of the world, the stigma and shame, as well as lack of sanitation and education around menstruation, negatively impacts the lives of millions of women and girls. 
•    Menstrual Hygiene Day is an effort to raise awareness of these barriers to menstruation.
•    Menstrual Hygiene Day, a day dedicated to building awareness about the importance of good menstrual hygiene and the taboos surrounding menstruation, is observed on May 28th.
•    Menstrual hygiene day is an annual awareness day, on 28 May, that aims to break taboos and raise awareness about the importance of good menstrual hygiene management for women and adolescent girls worldwide. 
•    It was initiated by the German-based NGO WASH United in 2014.

Anti-Terrorism Day observed Across India on 21 May 2016. The day is celebrated as Death Anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi. 
•    Every Year Union Home Ministry administers the Anti-Terror pledge to Government employees.
•    The staff of the Northeast Frontier Railway Construction Organisation observed Anti Terrorism Day by pledging to work for promoting peace.
•    The objective behind the observance of Anti-Terrorism Day is to wean away the people from terrorism and violence. 
•    The Day is observed to generate awareness in the country among all sections of people, about the danger of terrorism and violence and its effect on the people, society and the country as a whole.

1st May is International Labour Day, known as May Day. 
•    The theme of International Labour Day of 2016 is "Celebrating the international labour movement".
•    The whole world celebrates 1st May every year as International Labour Day to highlight the significance of hard work and the result we get through it. 
•    This is also known as International Worker's Day and May Day.
•    80 countries across the world have declared national holiday on this day.
•    The first demand for an eight hour working day and better working conditions gained momentum in early 19th century.
•    On the first of May in 1886, four striking workers of a harvesting plant at Haymarket in Chicago were killed in police firing.
•    It was protested all over and ever since, first of May is observed as workers day. 
•    Labour is one of the four key factors of production along with Land, Capital and organisation.

The World Intellectual Property Day 2016 was on 26 April 2016 observed across the world with the theme Digital Creativity: Culture Reimagined. 
•    On this day, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) works together with various government agencies, non-government organizations, community groups and individuals to hold different events and activities to promote World Intellectual Property Day.
•    The day is celebrated to spread awareness about the role that intellectual property rights (patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright) play in encouraging innovation and creativity.
•    This year theme explores the future of culture in the digital age: how we create it, how we access it, how we finance it. A balanced and flexible intellectual property system helps ensure that those working in the creative sector and artists themselves are properly paid for their work, so they can keep creating.
•    In October 1999, the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) approved the idea of declaring a particular day as a World Intellectual Property Day.
•    In 2000, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) designated 26 April as an annual World Intellectual Property (IP) Day to address the perceived gap between Intellectual Property as a business/legal concept and its relevance to people’s lives. 
•    April 26 was specifically chosen as the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization, first entered into force in 1970 on this date.

World Malaria Day (WMD) is being observed annually on 25 April across the world to recognize the global efforts to control preventable vector borne disease malaria. 
•    It also seeks to highlight the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment for elimination and control of malaria. 2016 Theme: “End Malaria For Good”. 
•    It reflects the vision of a malaria-free world set out in the Global technical strategy for malaria 2016-2030. The strategy was adopted by the World Health Assembly in May 2015. 
•    It aims to dramatically lower the global malaria burden over the next 15 years and is aligned with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. 
•    Goals of the strategy are: (i) Reduce rate of new malaria cases by at least 90% (ii) Reduce malaria death rates by at least 90% (iii) Eliminate malaria in at least 35 countries (iv) Prevent a resurgence of malaria in all countries that are malaria-free. 
•    The World Malaria Day was established by the 60th session of the World Health Assembly, a decision-making body of World Health Organization (WHO) in May 2007. 
•    It was established to provide understanding and education of malaria and also spread information on year-long intensified implementation of national malaria-control strategies. It is one of eight official global public health campaigns currently marked by the WHO.

Every year April 24 is being observed as National Panchayati Raj (PR) Diwas across India.

•    The Panchayati Raj in India generally refers to the system introduced by constitutional amendment in 1992, although it is based upon the traditional panchayat system of South Asia. 
•    The modern panchayati raj and its gram panchayats are not to be confused with the extra-constitutional khap panchayats (or caste panchayats) found in northern India. 
•    While the panchayati raj system was formalized in 1992, leading up to that change, a number of Indian committees studied various ways of implementing more decentralized administration.
