Industry body F.I.I.C.I in association with Quality Council of India has started a programme to create awareness about 'Zero Defect, Zero Effect' products. This initiative is intended to give a major fillip to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to manufacture products with 'zero defect' in terms of quality and with 'zero effect' in terms of environmental impact under the 'Make in India' umbrella.

President Pranab Mukherjee presented the Punyabhushan Award 2015 to Pratap Pawar at a function in Pune. He has been awarded for his contribution to the Indian media through his Sakal Media group; to the industrial development of Pune and for his social activities. Last year President of India conferred ‘Padmashri’ on Pratap Pawar to recognize his contribution in various areas of public service. Through ‘Sakal’ he has played a major role in educating the masses.

Swedish telecom gear maker Ericsson has appointed Paolo Colella as the new head of its India operations, replacing Chris Houghton, who will assume the role of North East Asia region head. Colella, who will also become a member of Ericsson's global leadership team, will take charge from 1^st September. At present, Colella is responsible for Ericsson's consulting and systems integration business globally.

Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hassan has been ranked the best all-rounder in One-Day Internationals (O.D.I) once again. In the latest ICC rankings, Shakib has topped the list of all-rounders in all three formats of cricket -Test, O.D.I's and Twenty20 Internationals. In the rankings released after the Bangladesh-India series, (won by Bangladesh) Shakib now has 408 points followed by SriLanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan 404, Angelo Mathew with 308 points acquired third place in the list.

Former world champion Viswanathan Anand played out a quick draw with Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria to finish second in Norway chess tournament. The game ended in a draw vide repetition in just 18 moves. With 6.5 points, Topalov became Grand Chess tour's first season's winner. While Anand came at second position with 6 points. The next two tournaments of the tour will be held in San Luis, USA, in August and in London in December.

Eminent Hindi critic Dr. Vishwanath Tripathi has been chosen for the 28^th Moortidevi Award for the year 2014 for his path breaking creation 'Vyomkesh Darvesh'. Vyomkesh Darvesh is a fictional biography of noted Hindi critic Acharya Hazari Prasad Dwivedi.

India's legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar has been voted the 'Best Test player' of the 21st century in an online poll conducted by Cricket Australia's website. The former India skipper got the highest number of votes to emerge on top of the list of the 100 best Test players since 2000, in a poll conducted by cricket.com.au.Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara received the second highest votes, followed by Adam Gilchrist of Australia in the third position.

Russia's former prime minister Yevgeny Primakov passed away. He was 85. A veteran of Soviet and Russian politics, Primakov served as premier under president Boris Yeltsin in 1998-1999, as foreign minister between 1996 and 1998 and headed the country's external intelligence agency SVR between 1991 to 1996.
