Actor Om Puri Passes Away after Heart Attack

Om Puri, the veteran actor of Bollywood, died on 5 January 2017 in Mumbai. He passed away after a massive heart attack. He was 66.
●   Born on 18 October 1950, Puri appeared in commercial Indian, British, American, and Pakistani films.
●   He also acted in art films and independent films.
●   He studied at the Film and Television Institute of India as well as the National School of Drama.
●   He made his film debut with the Marathi film Ghashiram Kotwal (1976).
●   Hailing from Ambala, Haryana, Om Puri, was a recipient of Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India as well as Order of the British Empire (OBE).
●   In 2009, he was conferred with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.
●   In 2015, he was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award International Film Festival of Prayag.

वरिष्ठ अभिनेता ओम पुरी का 6 जनवरी 2017 को हृदयघात के कारण मुंबई में निधन हो गया. वे 66 वर्ष के थे.
●   ओम पुरी का जन्म 18 अक्टूबर 1950 को हरियाणा के अंबाला में हुआ था.
●   उनका पूरा नाम ओम राजेश पुरी है.
●   उन्होंने अपनी प्रारंभिक शिक्षा पंजाब स्थित पटियाला से पूरी की.
●   ओम पुरी ने वर्ष 1976 में पुणे फिल्म अकादमी से प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त किया.
●   उन्होंने आरंभ में थियेटर में अभिनय किया तथा एक स्टूडियो में अभिनय की शिक्षा दी.
●   उन्होंने अपना एक निजी थियेटर मजमा भी स्थापित किया.
●   ओम पुरी ने वर्ष 1976 में मराठी फिल्म घासीराम कोतवाल से अपने अभिनय का सफर आरंभ किया था.
●   वर्ष 1980 में उनकी हिंदी फिल्म आक्रोश उस समय की सबसे बड़ी हिट साबित हुई थी.
●   उनकी बेहद प्रसिद्ध फिल्मों में अर्द्ध सत्य तथा मिर्च मसाला विशेष रूप से गिनी जाती हैं.
●   उनकी फिल्म अर्धसत्य के लिए उन्हें राष्ट्रीय फिल्म पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया
●   ओम पुरी को पदम श्री पुरस्कार से भी सम्मानित किया गया.

Earth-like snow, ice features found on Pluto

Scientists have found evidence of Earth-like snow and ice features on Pluto, using a model similar to what meteorologists use to forecast weather on our planet and a computer simulation of the physics of evaporating ices.
●   The groundbreaking research, done in collaboration with researchers at NASA and Johns Hopkins University, indicates that these icy features may exist on other planets where environmental conditions are similar.
●   The identification of the ridges of Tartarus Dorsa as Penitentes suggests that the presence of an atmosphere is necessary for the formation of penitentes, which would explain why they have not previously been seen on other airless icy satellites or dwarf planets.
●   Pluto’s ridges are much larger — 500 metres tall and separated by three to five kilometres — as compared to their meter-sized earthly counterparts.

प्लूटो पर पाया गया पृथ्वी की तरह बर्फ

अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा के वैज्ञानिकों ने न्यू हॉरिजंस अंतरिक्ष यान से मिली पहली रंगीन तस्वीरों के आधार पर यह दावा किया है.
●   वैज्ञानिकों का कहना है कि प्लूटो की धुंध के कण भूरे और लाल रंग के हो सकते हैं लेकिन वे नीला प्रकाश बिखेर रहे हैं.
●   वैज्ञानिकों का मानना है कि थोलिन कण उच्च तापमान में बनते हैं जहां पराबैंगनी किरणें टूटती हैं और आयनीकृत नाइट्रोजन तथा मीथेन कण एक दूसरे से क्रिया कर जटिल आवेशपूर्ण आयन बनाते हैं.
●   फिर ये आपस में जुड़कर बेहद जटिल कण बनाते हैं.
●   साथ ही प्लूटो पर बर्फ के कई छोटे-छोटे क्षेत्रों का पता चला है.
●   न्यू हॉरिजंस पर लगे राल्फ स्पेक्ट्रल कंपोजीशन मैपर से मिले आंकड़ों के आधार पर वैज्ञानिकों ने यह दावा किया है.
●   इस अनुसंधान, को नासा और जॉन्स हॉपकिंस विश्वविद्यालय के शोधकर्ताओं के सहयोग से किया गया, यह संकेत करता है कि इन बर्फीले ग्रह पर पर्यावरण की स्थिति समान हैं वहां ज़िन्दगी भी मौजूद हो सकता है।
●   प्लूटो की लकीरें ज्यादा बड़े होते हैं - 500 मीटर लंबा और तीन से पांच किलोमीटर की दूरी तक।

16th meet of FSDC held

The 16th meeting of the Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC) was held in New Delhi.
●   It was chaired by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. It was attended by heads of all financial sector regulators as its members.
●   It reviewed the major issues and challenges facing the economy.
●   Besides, a brief report on the activities undertaken by the FSDC sub-committee chaired by RBI Governor Urjit Patel was placed before the FSDC meeting.
●   The Central Government had established Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC) in December 2010 with the Finance Minister as it Chairman.
●   The idea to create it was first mooted by the Raghuram Rajan Committee on Financial Sector Reforms in 2008.

एफएसडीसी की 16 वीं की बैठक आयोजित

केन्द्रीय वित्त मंत्री श्री अरुण जेटली ने कहा कि वैसे तो दुनिया की अर्थव्यवस्था काफी कमजोर है, लेकिन अपने वृहद आर्थिक बुनियादी तत्वों में बेहतरी के बल पर भारत की स्थिति आज अपेक्षाकृत काफी मजबूत नजर आती है।
●   वित्त मंत्री ने कहा कि सरकार द्वारा आभासी अर्थव्यवस्था एवं कर चोरी से निजात पाने के लिए उठाये गये कदमों का आगे चलकर जीडीपी और राजकोषीय मजबूती दोनों पर ही सकारात्मक असर पड़ने की आशा है।
●   वित्त मंत्री श्री अरुण जेटली ने आज नई दिल्ली में आयोजित की गई वित्तीय स्थिरता एवं विकास परिषद (एफएसडीसी) की 16वीं बैठक की अध्यक्षता करने के दौरान अपने शुरुआती संबोधन में ये बातें कहीं। एफएसडीसी की बैठक में सभी वित्तीय नियामकों और वित्त मंत्रालय एवं वित्तीय क्षेत्र के नियामकों के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों ने भाग लिया।
●   परिषद ने अर्थव्यवस्था से जुड़े प्रमुख मसलों एवं इसके समक्ष मौजूद चुनौतियों की समीक्षा की और इसके साथ ही यह बात नोट की कि अपने वृहद आर्थिक बुनियादी तत्वों में बेहतरी के बल पर भारत की स्थिति आज अपेक्षाकृत काफी मजबूत नजर आती है।
●   परिषद ने यह बात भी नोट की कि समानांतर अर्थव्यवस्था और काले धन की समस्या से निपटने के लिए सरकार द्वारा उठाए गये कदमों का आगे चलकर सकल घरेलू उत्पाद (जीडीपी) और राजकोषीय मजबूती दोनों पर ही सकारात्मक असर पड़ने की आशा है।

Japan to assist in making Chennai, Ahmedabad and Varanasi Smart Cities

Japan has decided to be associated with the development of Chennai, Ahmedabad and Varanasi as smart cities.
●   This was today conveyed by Japan’s Ambassador to India Mr.Kenji Hiramatsu during his meeting with Minister of Urban Development Shri M.Venkaiah Naidu.
●   Mr.Hiramatsu further said that Japan is quite interested in urban development initiatives of the Government of India and decided to be a partner.
●   High Commissioner of United Kingdom Mr.Dominic Asquith also met Shri Venkaiah Naidu and discussed converting into action the MoU signed between the two countries during the recent visit of British Prime Minister to India Ms.Teresa May, on cooperation in urban development sector.
●   So far, leading countries have come forward to be associated with development of 15 smart cities. These include: United States Trade Development Agency (USTDA) –Visakhapatnam, Ajmer and Allahabad, UK-Pune, Amaravati(Andhra Pradesh) and Indore, France-Chandigarh, Puducherry and Nagpur and Germany –Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore and Kochi.

चेन्नई, अहमदाबाद और वाराणसी को स्मार्ट सिटी बनाने में सहायता करेगा जापान

जापान ने स्मार्ट सिटी के रूप में चेन्नई, अहमदाबाद और वाराणसी के विकास कार्यों से जुड़ने का निर्णय लिया है। इस आशय की जानकारी भारत में जापान के राजदूत श्री केंजी हीरामत्सु ने शहरी विकास मंत्री श्री एम. वेंकैया नायडू के साथ अपनी बैठक के दौरान दी।
●   श्री हीरामत्सु ने यह भी कहा कि जापान भारत सरकार के शहरी विकास से जुड़े कदमों में काफी दिलचस्पी रखता है और उसने इसमें एक भागीदार बनने का फैसला किया है।
●   ब्रिटेन के उच्चायुक्त श्री डोमिनिक एसक्विथ ने भी श्री वेंकैया नायडू से मुलाकात की और उन्होंने ब्रिटेन की प्रधानमंत्री सुश्री थेरेसा मे की हालिया भारत यात्रा के दौरान शहरी विकास के क्षेत्र में सहयोग पर दोनों देशों के बीच हस्ताक्षरित सहमति-पत्र (एमओयू) को मूर्त रूप देने के मुद्दे पर विचार-विमर्श किया।
●   उन्होंने कहा कि स्मार्ट सिटी के विकास के लिए सरकारी स्तर पर सहयोग को संस्थागत रूप देने की व्यापक संभावनाएं हैं।
●   अब तक कई प्रमुख देश 15 स्मार्ट शहरों के विकास से जुड़ने के लिए आगे आ चुके हैं। इनमें ये शामिल हैं: अमेरिकी व्यापार विकास एजेंसी (यूएसटीडीए)- विशाखापत्तनम, अजमेर एवं इलाहाबाद, ब्रिटेन- पुणे, अमरावती (आंध्र प्रदेश) एवं इंदौर, फ्रांस- चंडीगढ़, पुडुचेरी एवं नागपुर और जर्मनी - भुवनेश्वर, कोयंबटूर एवं कोच्चि।

●   Self-employment opportunities also have been enhanced in these fields which require skilled youth.
●   In this workshop, the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, the representatives of agriculture science centers, ICAR, Ministry of Agriculture as well as trained youth entrepreneurs are participating.
●   Shri Radha Mohan Singh said that Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare is working with fast pace to give reality to the motto raised by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi, as Kaushal Bharat - Kushal Bharat.
●   The government realizes that the youth of the country are required to be linked with agriculture in the form of enterprise.

कृषि में हुए नवीनतम विकास की वजह से एग्री वेयरहाउसिंग, कोल्ड चेन, सप्लाई चेन, डेरी, पोल्ट्री, मीट, मच्छी, बागवानी, खेत मशीनीकरण, सूक्ष्म सिंचाई, में हुनरमंद नौजवानों के लिए रोजगार के मौके पैदा हुए हैं जिसका नौजवानों को लाभ उठाना चाहिए।
●   इन क्षेत्रों में स्व-रोजगार के भी अवसर बढ़े हैं जिसमें कुशल नौजवानों की मांग है। श्री सिंह ने कहा कि कृषि का ऐसा समग्र विकास अब से पहले कभी देखने को नहीं मिला।
●   प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी के ’कौशल भारत - कुशल भारत’ के सपने को साकार करने के लिए कृषि एवं किसान कल्याण मंत्रालय ने तेज़ी से कदम बढाए हैं। केंद्रीय कृषि मंत्री ने कहा कि माननीय प्रधानमंत्री ने ’उत्पादन केंद्रित कृषि’ से हटकर ’किसान केंद्रित कृषि’ का आवाह्न किया है।
●   कृषि मंत्रालय, युवाओं व किसानों के कौशल विकास की दिशा में रणनीति बनाकर काम कर रहा है और प्रधानमंत्री फसल बीमा योजना, ई-नाम, सॉयल हेल्थकार्ड, परम्परागत कृषि विकास योजना, प्रधानमंत्री कृषि सिंचाई योजना, कौशल विकास से कृषि विकास के इस प्रयास में बेहद महत्वपूर्ण साबित होंगी।
●   किसानों की आय बढ़ाने के लिए विभिन्न योजनाएं शुरू की गयी है जिनमें प्रमुख हैं: जैविक खेती के तहत और अधिक क्षेत्र लाने के लिए ’परम्परागत कृषि विकास योजना’; किसानों को लाभकारी मूल्य मुहैया कराने के लिए ’राष्ट्रीय कृषि मंडी (ई-नाम) आदि।

Mesentery, a new Human organ discovered

Researchers have recently discovered a new organ that was hidden in plain sight inside our digestive system this whole time.
●   The existence of the human body’s 79th organ, known as the ‘mesentery’, has been known for hundreds of years. However, until recently, it was thought to be a fragmented structure comprising separate parts.
●   It was Dr. J Calvin Coffey, Professor of Survey at the University of Limerick in Ireland, who discovered that it was one continuous organ.
●   Although the structure of the organ is known, its functions are not very well understood.
●   Studying the organ more closely could be the key to better treatment of various abdominal and digestive diseases.
●   The evidence of the organ’s new found status has been now published in the Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology journal.
●   The organ has been listed in the journal as one that had not been acknowledged up until now.
●   The anatomic description of the organ that had been laid down in research books in the past 100 years has been completely incorrect.

मानव शरीर में एक नए अंग 'मेसेंट्री' की खोज

वैज्ञानिकों ने मानव शरीर में एक नए अंग की खोज की है, जोकि इंसान के पाचन तंत्र में स्थित है।
●   अब तक इसे आंत और पेट को जोड़ने वाले अंश के तौर पर देखा जाता था। लेकिन आयरलैंड के शोधकर्ताओं की टीम ने पाया कि ये एक अलग अंग है। इस अंग का नाम है मेसेंट्री।
●   मेसेंट्री के बारे में और जानकारी और इससे जुड़ी वैज्ञानिक खोज से पेट से जुड़ी बीमारियों में सर्जरी की कम जरूरत, कम परेशानियां और कम खर्च में मरीज के ज्यादा ठीत होने की संभावनाएं बढ़ेंगी।
●   यूनिवर्सिटी हॉस्पिटल लेमेरिक के शोधकर्ता जे केल्पिन कॉफे के मुताबिक, 'हालांकि अभी इस अंग की शरीर में क्या भूमिका ये स्पष्ट नहीं हो पाया है लेकिन इस खोज ने विज्ञान के लिए एक नए युग की शुरुआत की है।'
●   यह खोज लासेंट मेडिकल जर्नल में प्रकाशित की गई है।
●   इस खोज के बाद अब मेडिकल छात्रों को मेसेंट्री को एक अलग अंग के तौर पर पढ़ाया जाएगा।

A record five Indian-Americans took oath as members of the US Congress.
●   52-year-old Kamala Harris was sworn in on Tuesday as the Senator from California by outgoing US Vice President Joe Biden.
●   Harris, decided against seeking re-election.
●   Four Indian Americans were sworn in as its members, including Congressman Ami Bera.
●   In the process he equalled the record of Dalip Singh Saundh, who exactly 60-years ago became the first Indian American to be elected as a member of the US Congress.
●   Joining Bera were young and dynamic Ro Khanna representing the Silicon Valley.
●   Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, who won the election from Illinois took the oath on Gita.
●   Ms Gabbard, the first ever Hindu to be elected to the US Congress took the oath for third consecutive term.
●   Pramila Jayapal is also the first Indian American woman in the US House of Representatives. Her 78-year-old mother, who especially came in from India, watched the proceedings from the gallery.

●   कमला हैरिस की मां भारत से तथा पिता जमैका से थे. उन्हें अमेरिका के उपराष्ट्रपति जॉए बिडेन ने शपथ दिलाई. वह ऐसी पहली भारतीय अमेरिकी हैं, जो सीनेट में अपनी सेवाएं देंगी.
●   वे शपथ लेने से पहले कैलिफोर्निया में अटॉर्नी जनरल पद पर थीं. वे सीनेटर बारबरा बॉक्सर की स्थान ली है. चार भारतीय अमेरिकियों ने हाउस चैंबर्स के सदस्यों के रूप में शपथ ली.
●   हालांकि इनमें कांग्रेस सदस्य एमी बेरा भी थे, जिन्हें लगातार तीसरे कार्यकाल के लिए चुना गया है. उनके अतिरिक्त शपथ लेने वाले भारतीय अमेरिकियों में सिलिकॉन वैली का प्रतिनिधित्व करने वाले युवा रो खन्ना भी हैं.
●   कांग्रेस सदस्य राजा कृष्णमूर्ति ने इलिनोइस से चुनाव जीतने के बाद गीता पर हाथ रखकर शपथ ली.
●   तुलसी गब्बार्ड के बाद राजा कृष्णमूर्ति ऐसे दूसरे अमेरिकी सांसद हैं, जिन्होंने गीता पर हाथ रखकर शपथ ली है.
●   अमेरिकी कांग्रेस के लिए चुनी गयीं पहली हिंदू तुलसी गब्बार्ड ने लगातार तीसरे कार्यकाल के लिए शपथ ली. प्रमिला जयपाल अपने लिए राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर एक अलग जगह बना चुकी हैं.
●   वे शपथ ग्रहण करने से पहले ही अमेरिकी प्रतिनिधि सभा में पहली भारतीय अमेरिकी महिला बन चुकी हैं.

Pride of Pakistan and the foremost Khayal vocalist Ustad Bade Fateh Ali Khan of Patiala Gharana passed away on Wednesday evening in Islamabad. He was 81 years old.
●   There is a galaxy of highly acclaimed singers in Patiala Gharana and the deceased was one of the most shining ones.
●   He was younger of the legendary singing duo Amanat Ali and Fateh Ali, who enjoyed a lot of popularity in Pakistan and India and had fan following and disciples in many other countries.
●   Ustad Fateh Ali was father of Rustam Fateh Ali and Sultan Ali Khan and uncle of Asad Amanat and Shafqat Amanat.
●   He was elder brother of Ustad Hamid Ali Khan.
●   Born in 1935 in Patiala, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, at the age of 12, and his elder brother Amanat Ali Khan, at the age of 14, became the Maharaja’s chosen singers at his ‘darbar’ or court.

उस्ताद बड़े फतेह अली खान का निधन

पाकिस्तान के जाने में शास्त्रीय गायक उस्ताद बड़े फतेह अली खान का कल निधन हो गया। वह 81 वर्ष के थे।
●   वह लंबे समय से फेफड़ों की बीमारी से जूझ रहे थे।
●   पारिवारिक सूत्रों के अनुसार फतेह अली खान को आज लाहौर में सुपूर्द-ए-खाक किया जायेगा।
●   ख्याल, ठुमरी और कव्वाली से गायकी के क्षेत्र में विशेष पहचान बनाने वाले उस्ताद बड़े फतेह अली खान के पाकिस्तान के अलावा भारत,अमेरिका, कनाडा, दक्षिण अफ्रीका और पश्चिम एशिया में भी बड़ी संख्या में भी प्रशांसक हैं।
●   पटियाला घराने से संबद्ध उस्ताद फतेह अली खान गायक अमानत अली खान और हामिद अली खान के छोटे भाई थे।
●   अमानत अली खान के साथ उनकी कमाल की जुगलबंदी बनी थी। वह अपने परिवार की छठी पीढ़ी के शास्त्रीय गायक थे।
●   वर्ष 1935 में पंजाब के पटियाला (भारत) में जन्में उस्ताद बड़े फतेह अली खान किशोर अवस्था में ही अपनी गायकी का लोहा मनावाया था।
●   1969 में उन्हें तत्कालीन राष्ट्रपति ने ‘प्राइड ऑफ पर्फोर्मेंस मेडल से नवाजा था।

On 4 January 2017 Mahendra Singh Dhoni stepped down as the Captain of the Indian One Day International (ODI) and T20I cricket teams.
●   He made his ODI debut in December 2004 against Bangladesh.
●   He played his first Test in 2005 against Sri Lanka.
●   In 2007, he took over the ODI captaincy from Rahul Dravid.
●   Under his captaincy, India won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the CB Series of 2007–2008, the 2010 Asia Cup, the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
●   In June 2013, he became the first captain to win all three ICC limited-overs trophies.
●   He took up the Test captaincy in 2008.
●   Under his captaincy, Indian team was ranked number one for the first time in the ICC Test rankings in 2009.
●   In 2011, Time magazine included him in its annual Time 100 list as one of the Most Influential People in the World.
●   In June 2015, he was ranked 23rd by Forbes in the list of highest paid athletes in the world.

●   एम एस धोनी का जन्म 7 जुलाई 1981 को झारखंड के रांची में हुआ.
●   धोनी ने दिसंबर 2004 में बांग्लादेश के खिलाफ खेलते हुए एकदिवसीय अंतरराष्ट्रीय मैचों में पदार्पण किया.
●   उन्होंने दिसंबर 2005 में श्रीलंका के खिलाफ खेलते हुए अंतरराष्ट्रीय टेस्ट मैच में पदार्पण किया.
●   धोनी ने 283 वन-डे मैच खेले जिनमें उनका औसत 50.89 रहा तथा उन्होंने 9110 रन बनाए. इसमें 9 शतक और 61 अर्धशतक शामिल थे.
●   उनकी कप्तानी में भारत ने 28 वर्ष बाद वर्ष 2007 में आईसीसी ट्वेंटी-20 विश्व कप जीता.
●   इसके अतिरिक्त उनकी कप्तानी के दौरान भारत ने 2007-08 कॉमनवेल्थ बैंक सीरीज, 2007-2008 में सीबी सीरीज़ और बॉर्डर-गावस्कर ट्रॉफी जैसे विभिन्न मुकाबले भी जीते.
●   उन्हें वर्ष 2009 में देश के चौथे सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान पदम् श्री से सम्मानित किया गया.
●   वर्ष 2008 में उन्हें देश का सर्वोच्च खेल पुरस्कार राजीव गांधी खेल रत्न पुरस्कार दिया गया.

World Bank envoy to meet India, Pakistan officials over Indus dispute

A senior World Bank official met a team of Indian officials to break a deadlock between India and Pakistan over two hydropower projects coming up in the border state of Jammu and Kashmir.
●   Ian H Solomon, senior adviser to the World Bank president, would meet officials of ministries of external affairs and water resources to hear the Indian side.
●   India side will be led by Gopal Baglay, a joint secretary in MEA.
●   After Delhi, Solomon will head to Pakistan.
●   Pakistan has objected to the projects, saying they flout the Indus treaty under which waters of Indus, Beas, Ravi, Sutlej, Chenab and Jhelum rivers are to be shared between the two countries.
●   Waters of eastern rivers – Beas, Ravi and Sutlej—are allocated to India, bulk of the water from the three western rivers is for Pakistan.
●   The treaty, survived three wars and tense ties between the neighbours, came under strain after last year’s attack on an army camp in Kashmir’s Uri.
●   Nineteen soldiers were killed in the audacious strike carried out by suspected Pakistani militants.

सिंधु जल संधि विवाद सुलझाने के लिए विश्व बैंक भारत ,पाकिस्तान के अधिकारियों से मिलेगा

भारत-पाक के बीच मौजूदा जल विवाद को सुलझाने के लिए अमेरिका ने अपनी ओर से पहल शुरू की है। हालांकि इसके लिए अमेरिकी प्रशासन से किसी तरह की मदद नहीं मांगी गई थी।
●   मौजूदा जल विवाद दो हाइड्रोइलेक्ट्रिक पावर प्लांट – किशनगंगा व रातले से संबंधित है, जो भारत की ओर से सिंधु नदी पर बनाया जा रहा है। पाकिस्तान का मानना है कि ये दोनों प्रोजेक्ट सिंधु जल समझौते का उल्लंघन करते हैंं क्योंकि यह समझौता ऐसी परियोजनाओं के लिए विशेष मानदंड उपलब्ध कराता है।
●   इस हफ्ते के आरंभ में अमेरिकी सचिव जॉन केरी ने वित्त मंत्री इशाक डार को बुलाया और इस विवाद के सौहार्दपूर्ण समाधान के लिए विभिन्न विकल्पों पर बात की। इसके बाद पाकिस्तान में अमेरिकी राजदूत डेविड हैले ने भी इस्लामाबाद स्थित वित्त मंत्रालय में डार से मुलाकात की।
●   क्रिसमस की छुट्टियों में अमेरिकी अधिकारियों की ओर से किया जा रहा इस तरह का काम असामान्य है और विशेषतौर पर तब जब ओबामा प्रशासन का कार्यकाल 20 जनवरी को पूरा हो रहा है।
●   लेकिन इस विवाद की गंभीरता को देखते हुए इस वक्त केरी को यह पहल करना पड़ा।
●   19 सितंबर 1960 में कराची में विश्व बैंक की मध्यस्थता में भारत और पाकिस्तान ने सिंधु जल संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किए थे। इसके अनुसार भारत का जहां व्यास, रवि और सतलुज नदियों पर नियंत्रण है।
