Earth-like snow, ice features found on Pluto
Scientists have found evidence of Earth-like snow and ice features on Pluto, using a model similar to what meteorologists use to forecast weather on our planet and a computer simulation of the physics of evaporating ices.
● The groundbreaking research, done in collaboration with researchers at NASA and Johns Hopkins University, indicates that these icy features may exist on other planets where environmental conditions are similar.
● The identification of the ridges of Tartarus Dorsa as Penitentes suggests that the presence of an atmosphere is necessary for the formation of penitentes, which would explain why they have not previously been seen on other airless icy satellites or dwarf planets.
● Pluto’s ridges are much larger — 500 metres tall and separated by three to five kilometres — as compared to their meter-sized earthly counterparts.
अमेरिकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा के वैज्ञानिकों ने न्यू हॉरिजंस अंतरिक्ष यान से मिली पहली रंगीन तस्वीरों के आधार पर यह दावा किया है.
● वैज्ञानिकों का कहना है कि प्लूटो की धुंध के कण भूरे और लाल रंग के हो सकते हैं लेकिन वे नीला प्रकाश बिखेर रहे हैं.
● वैज्ञानिकों का मानना है कि थोलिन कण उच्च तापमान में बनते हैं जहां पराबैंगनी किरणें टूटती हैं और आयनीकृत नाइट्रोजन तथा मीथेन कण एक दूसरे से क्रिया कर जटिल आवेशपूर्ण आयन बनाते हैं.
● फिर ये आपस में जुड़कर बेहद जटिल कण बनाते हैं.
● साथ ही प्लूटो पर बर्फ के कई छोटे-छोटे क्षेत्रों का पता चला है.
● न्यू हॉरिजंस पर लगे राल्फ स्पेक्ट्रल कंपोजीशन मैपर से मिले आंकड़ों के आधार पर वैज्ञानिकों ने यह दावा किया है.
● इस अनुसंधान, को नासा और जॉन्स हॉपकिंस विश्वविद्यालय के शोधकर्ताओं के सहयोग से किया गया, यह संकेत करता है कि इन बर्फीले ग्रह पर पर्यावरण की स्थिति समान हैं वहां ज़िन्दगी भी मौजूद हो सकता है।
● प्लूटो की लकीरें ज्यादा बड़े होते हैं - 500 मीटर लंबा और तीन से पांच किलोमीटर की दूरी तक।
