'Indian Police at Your Call' mobile app launched

An app launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday helps the citizen locate the nearest police stations wherever he or she is. 
●    Indian Police app provides the names of the police stations, the telephone numbers, the distance from the place where you are and how much time it will take to reach whichever police station one wants to go to. 
●    The features of the app, are citizen-friendly. 
●    The app provides the police station number, the control room number and also the SP office number. 
●    The app was developed by NIC.
●    Narendra Modi inaugurated the app during the conference of DGPs at the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Police Academy.
●    The Mobile App has been developed on Android and iOS platforms and is available for free download from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. 
●    Indian Police at Your Call App is a Digital India initiative aimed at the safety and security of the citizen anytime anywhere.

Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of MSME Technology Centre at Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh 

Shri Kalraj Mishra, Union Minister of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) laid the Foundation Stone for MSME Technology Centre at Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh today in the presence of Shri Ram Naik, Governor of Uttar Pradesh and Shri Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary, Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Shri Giriraj Singh, Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism & Culture and other dignitaries. A National Vendor Development Programme (NVDP) Exhibition was also organized during this event. 
●    Shri Giriraj Singh, Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, said that Technology Centre at Greater Noida will focus to cater to ESDM sector development, Innovation & design services, prototyping, testing & calibration, incubation and training in Electronic Repair & Maintenance and Computer Hardware & software would be the prominent activities to be undertaken by the Technology Centre. 
●    Shri Ram Naik, Governor, Uttar Pradesh, on the occasion said that timely completion of the Technology Centre is very important for the development of the State.

Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship sign MoU

The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG) and Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) here today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to scale up skill development initiatives in the Hydrocarbon and allied sectors among other areas of cooperation. The MoU was signed by Secretary MSDE Shri Rohit Nandan and Secretary, MoPNG Shri K. D. Tripathi in the presence of Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
 
●    Welcoming contribution from the hydrocarbon sector, Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, the hydrocarbon sector has tremendous potential for employment generation, and hence it is vital to develop a skilled workforce to meet both current and future needs. The setting up of the Hydrocarbons SSC is the first step in that direction. He said, with today’s partnership, both Ministries commit to develop globally benchmarked workforce for the sector so that lakhs of youth can aspire for better economic opportunities through skill development programs.
●    MoPNG has now formally joined hands with MSDE to:
●    Develop comprehensive skill development plans for existing and potential workforce in alignment with National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF)
●    Certify existing workforce in the hydrocarbon sector for Recognition of Prior Learning under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)
●    Promote and scale-up apprenticeship training under National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme
●    Facilitate the setting-up of Skill Development Institutes/Centres of Excellence for vocational training to meet sectoral needs

All ASI-protected monuments declared polythene free zones

All monuments and archaeological sites protected by the ASI have been declared as polythene free zones, Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma told Lok Sabha on Monday.
●    A total of 3,686 historical monuments and archaeological sites have been declared protected as that of national importance by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
●    Replying to questions, Mr. Sharma said ASI has declared all the monuments and archaeological sites protected by it as polythene free zones.
●    The Culture Ministry has written letters to all chief secretaries of states for their active cooperation in making centrally protected monuments as polythene-free zone.
●    To a query about Rakhi Garhi, a site located in Haryana, Mr. Sharma said the government has set up a committee to look into the issues related to Rakhi Garhi, which is considered as a historically important site of the civilisation.
●    Rakhi Garhi is believed to a settlement that came up before the Indus Valley civilisation.

Facebook tests "Express WiFi" in India

Facebook's Express Wifi is in the news again. Earlier this year, reports emerged that the Wi-Fi service was being tested at a number of rural locations in India.
●    Facebook's Express Wifi is the social networking company's second attempt to solve India's connectivity problem, the first being Internet.org. 
●    Express Wifi is a model for public Wi-Fi deployment. 
●    Express Wifi would enable people to connect their phones to the Internet without spending too much.
●    The focus of Facebook's Express Wifi is on rural areas, with 125 locations to begin with. 
●    Unlike Internet.org, Express Wifi by Facebook isn't free Internet. 
●    Facebook has not shared the exact locations where Express Wifi is being tested in India.
●    Facebook has not confirmed if Express Wifi will provide access to the full Internet or curated sites. 
●    Facebook has not shared the rates it is charging for Express Wifi, only saying it is a "sustainable model".

Injectible Contraceptives to be made available soon

The government will soon make injectable contraceptives available to the public through medical colleges and district hospitals, the Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel told Lok Sabha.
●    Last year, the health ministry had approved the proposal to introduce an injectable contraceptive for women under the national family planning programme following recommendations from the Drugs technical Advisory Committee.
●    The injectable drug - Deoxy Medroxy Progesterone Acetate - prevents pregnancy for three months. The drug is injected into the arm or buttock muscle. 
●    The drug has a female hormone, which helps prevent the egg from being released from the ovary.
●    Injectable contraceptive is the sixth contraceptive to be given free of cost under the government programme. 
●    New interventions have been made by the government in family planning. 
●    The packaging for condoms has now been improved and redesigned so as to influence the demand for these commodities.

NCC Celebrates 68th Anniversary 

National Cadet Corps (NCC), the largest uniformed youth organisation in the world, celebrated its 68th Raising Day on 27th November 2016. 
●    In the national capital the function was marked by paying homage to the martyrs at Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate. 
●    On this occasion the Defence Secretary Shri G. Mohan Kumar and Offg DG NCC Maj Gen JS Sandhu laid wreaths at Amar Jawan Jyoti.
●    The raising day was also celebrated all over India with cadets participating in marches, cultural activities and social development programmes.

Smriti Zubin Irani Inaugurated Apparel & Garment Making Centre at Imphal, Manipur 

Union Minister of Textiles Smt Smriti Zubin Irani inaugurated the Apparel and Garment Making Centre in Lamboikhongnangkhong, Imphal today. She also distributed “Pehchan” Identity Cards to some artisans. The Centre consists of one skilling block and two commercial blocks and 300 nos. of machines are installed in the centre.
●    Smt Smriti Irani said that the scheme for identifying weavers was launched on 7th October, 2014 and now more than 2000 weavers have been identified and issued identity cards. She said that the Prime Minister wants to give special attention to NE states for development, the project for installing the centre is Rs 18 crore and it will be beneficial for the state and it was completed within 9 months .MUDRA scheme is also launched for the direct connectivity of the weavers so that they can be easily identified for International Exhibition.
●    She further added that for textile promotion in the state, the central government has sanctioned Rs.200 crores. The state Awardee will be given Rs.30, 000/- per month to trained weavers, 12 clusters from three districts are selected for Design Workshop training and will be given Rs.300/- per day.
●    The function was also attended by Dr.Th. Meinya Singh, MP,Shri Govindas Konthoujam, Hon’ble Minister, Shri L. Lakher , Principal Secretary and ShriI John B.Tlangtin khumma, Director, Commerce and Industries, Govt. of Manipur and officers from the Central Government.

Two-day All India Conference of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) inaugurated 

Chief Justice of India, Shri Justice T. S. Thakur has said that a large number of pending vacancies in the High Courts and the various Tribunals leads to delay in disposal of cases. Inaugurating the All India Conference of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) here today, Shri Justice Thakur said there is a need to amend the rules for appointment of Chairpersons and Members of the various Tribunals so that the judges of the High Courts can also be eligible for the posts. He said the Conference coincides with the Constitution Day and the first pledge we, the people of India, have taken in the Preamble, commits us to provide Justice to all.
●    Presiding over the Inaugural Session the Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad said the CAT has been a unique experience even amongst the Tribunals since the Institution is a successful blend of judicial and administrative excellence. The CAT has rendered a yeoman’s role in the evolution of Service matters and framing of rules, he added. Stating that a rising number of appeals against CAT judgements before the High Courts and Supreme Court compounds to the problem of pending litigations, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad said the idea of inter-court appeal may be explored as an alternative.
●    Speaking on the occasion Supreme Court judge, Mr Justice J. Chelameswar said the CAT has completed 30 years and the occasion merits both celebration and introspection. Mr Justice Chelameswar said almost 35% of cases pending before the higher courts are Service related matters, he added. Lack of precision in the Law and judicial rulings favouring both the rival parties are the prime reasons for the mounting arrears in Service related litigations, he added.
●    Presenting a glimpse of the progress done by the various CATs, Chairman, Principal Bench, CAT, Mr Justice Permod Kohli said the various CAT benches have disposed off more than six lakh cases, which amounts to disposal of 94% cases brought before it. The fact that 77% of such judgements have been upheld by the High Courts is a pointer to the success of the CAT as an institution in Service matters. Mr Justice Kohli also urged for granting administrative and financial powers to the CAT so as to expedite its own infrastructure projects.
●    In his address Mr Justice Harun-ul-Rashid, Member Judicial, CAT, Bengaluru Bench, urged the Government to raise the age limit for Judicial Members so that vacancies can be filled up fast with deserving and experienced judges.

Shri Radha Mohan Singh launches e-pashuhaat portal 

The Union Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Minister, Shri Radha Mohan Singh launched e-pashuhaat portal (www.epashuhaat.gov.in) on the occasion of National Milk Day here today.
●    Shri Singh informed that for the first time in the world under the scheme National Mission on Bovine Productivity ‘e-pashuhaat’ portal has been developed for connecting breeders and farmers regarding availability of bovine germplasm. 
●    Through the portal breeders/farmers can sell and purchase breeding stock, information on all forms of germplasm including semen, embryos and live animals with all the agencies and stakeholders in the country has been uploaded on the portal.  
●    Through this portal, farmers will be aware about the availability of quality disease free bovine germplasm with different agencies in the country.  
●    The portal will lead to propagation of high genetic merit germplasm.
●    India has the largest bovine population in the world. 
●    At  199m cattle it has 14% of the world cattle population and with 105m buffaloes it has 53% of the world buffalo population of which 79% of the cattle are Indigenous and 21% are Exotic and Crossbred varieties.
●    80% of the Indigenous cattle are Nondescript and 20% belong to 37 breeds recognised by National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources.(NBAGR) with 13 breeds of Water buffaloes.
