Union Minister Jitendra Singh releases Coffee Table Book ‘Discovering the Heritage of Assam’, authored by Padampani Bora with foreword by Amitabh Bachchan
• The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr Jitendra Singh released a Coffee Table Book on “Discovering the Heritage of Assam”, written by Padampani Bora and having foreword by Amitabh Bachchan. The book has been published by Penguin.
• With beautiful pictures and photographs, the book depicts the heritage, faith, beliefs and traditions of different ethnic tribes and subtribes living in Assam, the largest State of the North Eastern Region.
• The author, Padampani Bora, is by profession an officer of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS-2009 batch), but has over the years established himself as an accomplished author, specializing in the subjects reflecting diverse nuances of the North Eastern Region of India.

Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2020 announced
• The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden on October 5, 2020, announced that the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine has been jointly awarded to Harvey J. Alter, Charles M. Rice, and Michael Houghton for the discovery of the Hepatitis C virus.
• The discovery of the virus is termed as a landmark achievement in a battle against the virus that is a big threat to human health. The three scientists have made a crucial contribution in a fight against blood-borne hepatitis that causes liver cancer and cirrhosis in people.
• The discovery of the Hepatitis C virus by the three scientists revealed the cause of the remaining cases of chronic hepatitis and made possible blood tests and new medicines that have saved millions of lives.
• The prestigious Nobel prize award comes with a gold medal and prize money of 10 million Swedish Kronor.
• As per the World Health Organisation, over 70 million cases, and 4,00,000 deaths due to Hepatitis are recorded every year.
Right Livelihood Award 2020 announced
• The Right Livelihood Award Foundation has announced the four winners of the 2020 Right Livelihood Award 2020 which is also known as the alternative Nobel Prize in Stockholm.
• The four activists Ales Bialiatski of Belarus, Nasrin Sotoudeh of Iran, Bryan Stevenson of the United States(US) and Lottie Cunningham Wren of Nicaragua shared the 2020 award for their contribution towards equality, democracy, justice and freedom.

DRDO successfully flight tests weapon system SMART- Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo
• India has successfully flight-tested SMART (Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo) from the Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha on October 5, 2020.
• The Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the successful flight test of SMART. He mentioned it to be a major technology breakthrough in anti-submarine warfare.
• A number of DRDO laboratories, including RCI Hyderabad, DRDL, NSTL Vishakhapatnam, ADRDE Agra have developed the technologies that were required for SMART.
Obituary
Justice AS Dave, former Judge and acting CJ of the Gujarat HC passes away
• Former Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court Justice Anantkumar Surendraray Dave passed away at the age of 62.
• Justice Dave was appointed as a Gujarat High Court Judge in 2004 and was made permanent in 2006.
• He was appointed as an Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court on November 14, 2018 and served until the present Chief Justice Vikram Nath took over the helm in September 2019.
Veteran Social activist Pushpa Bhave passes away
• Veteran social activist Prof Pushpa Bhave, also known as the Iron Lady of Mumbai, has passed away following a prolonged illness. She was 81.
• Bhave has been associated with the Rashtra Seva Dal and democratic movements since her student days.

Puducherry airport becomes AAI’s first 100% solar-powered airport
• The Puducherry airport has become the first airport of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) which is entirely solar-powered.
• The 500KWp ground-mounted solar power plant was commissioned on 2nd October 2020. The approx cost of the plant is Rs 2.8 crore.
• With becoming absolutely power-neutral, the Puducherry airport will be able to meet its entire power requirement through the solar power plant.

• World Space Week is celebrated on October 4-10, to commemorate the launch of earth’s first human-made satellite, Sputnik I, on October 4, 1957, and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty on October 10, 1967.
• 2020 World Space Week is dedicated to satellites and their broad benefits under the theme “Satellites improve life.”
World Habitat Day 2020
• World Habitat Day is observed every year on the first Monday of October throughout the world to reflect on the state of our towns and cities, and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter as well as remind people that they are responsible for the habitat of future generations.
• In 2020, the World Habitat Day is being celebrated on 5th October. The theme for 2020 World Habitat Day is Housing For All — A Better Urban Future.
• It was officially designated by the United Nations in 1985 and first celebrated in 1986.

• पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र विकास मंत्रालय के राज्यमंत्री (स्वतंत्र प्रभार), प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय, कार्मिक, लोक शिकायत, पेंशन, परमाणु ऊर्जा विभाग तथा अंतरिक्ष विभाग के राज्यमंत्री डॉ. जितेन्द्र सिंह ने आज अमिताभ बच्चन द्वारा प्रस्तावित और पेंगुइन द्वारा प्रकाशित 'असम की विरासत की खोज' शीर्षक से कॉफी टेबल बुक का विमोचन किया।
• ग्लेज़ पेपर पर चित्रों और तस्वीरों के साथ भारी-भरकम कॉफी टेबल बुक में पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र के सबसे बड़े राज्य की विभिन्न जातीय और जनजातियों की विरासत, विश्वास और परंपराओं का एक महत्वपूर्ण संकलन प्रस्तुत किया गया है। डॉ जितेंद्र सिंह ने पुस्तक का विमोचन करते हुए इसके लेखक पद्मपाणी बोरा को बधाई दी, जो पेशे से भारतीय राजस्व सेवा (आईआरएस -2009 बैच) के अधिकारी हैं, लेकिन कई वर्षों से खुद को एक कुशल लेखक के रूप में स्थापित कर रहे हैं और भारत के पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र की बारीकियों को विविध विषयों के माध्यम से दर्शाते हैं।

फिजियोलॉजी या मेडिसिन 2020 में नोबेल पुरस्कार की घोषणा
• फिजियोलॉजी या मेडिसिन 2020 में नोबेल पुरस्कार के लिए हार्वे जे. अल्टर (अमेरिका), चार्ल्स एम. राइस (अमेरिका) और माइकल ह्यूटन (ब्रिटेन) को संयुक्त रूप से उनकी हेपेटाइटिस C वायरस की खोज के लिए प्रदान किया गया। नोबेल समिति के प्रमुख, थॉमस पेरल्मन ने स्टॉकहोम में विजेताओं की घोषणा करते हुए बताया कि इस वर्ष का नोबेल पुरस्कार उन तीन वैज्ञानिकों को दिया गया है जिन्होंने रक्त-जनित हेपेटाइटिस के खिलाफ लड़ाई में निर्णायक योगदान दिया है, जो एक प्रमुख वैश्विक स्वास्थ्य समस्या है, जो दुनिया भर के लोगों में सिरोसिस और यकृत कैंसर का कारण बनती है।
• हार्वे जे. ऑल्टर, माइकल ह्यूटन और चार्ल्स एम. राइस ने सेमिनल डिस्कवरी की हैं, जिसके कारण एक नावेल वायरस, हेपेटाइटिस C वायरस की पहचान हुई। उनकी इस खोज से पहले, हेपेटाइटिस A और B वायरस की खोज महत्वपूर्ण कदम था, लेकिन रक्त-जनित हेपेटाइटिस के अधिकांश मामले कभी स्पष्ट नही हो सके थे। हेपेटाइटिस C वायरस की खोज ने क्रोनिक हेपेटाइटिस के शेष मामलों के कारण का पता लगाया और रक्त परीक्षण और नई दवाओं को संभव बनाया जिसने लाखों लोगों की जान बचाई है।
राइट लाइवलीहुड अवार्ड्स 2020 की हुई घोषणा
• Right Livelihood Award 2020: राइट लाइवलीहुड अवार्ड फाउंडेशन ने वर्ष 2020 के राइट लाइवलीहुड अवार्ड के चार विजेताओं की घोषणा की है जिसे स्टॉकहोम में वैकल्पिक नोबेल पुरस्कार के रूप में भी जाना जाता है।
• चार कार्यकर्ता बेलारूस के एलेस बालियात्स्की, ईरान के नसरीन सोतौडेह, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका (अमेरिका) के ब्रायन स्टीवेंसन और निकारागुआ के लोट्टी कनिंघम व्रेन ने समानता, लोकतंत्र, न्याय और स्वतंत्रता के लिए दिए अपने योगदान के लिए 2020 का पुरस्कार साझा किया।

DRDO ने हथियार परीक्षण प्रणाली SMART- सुपरसोनिक मिसाइल असिस्टेड टॉरपीडो का सफलतापूर्वक उड़ान परीक्षण किया
• भारत ने 5 अक्टूबर, 2020 को ओडिशा के तट से व्हीलर द्वीप से SMART (सुपरसोनिक मिसाइल असिस्टेड रिलीज़ ऑफ टॉरपीडो) का सफलतापूर्वक परीक्षण किया है।
• केंद्रीय रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने SMART के सफल उड़ान परीक्षण के लिए रक्षा अनुसंधान और विकास संगठन (DRDO) को बधाई दी। उन्होंने इसे पनडुब्बी रोधी युद्ध में एक प्रमुख प्रौद्योगिकी सफलता बताया।
• RCI हैदराबाद, DRDL, NSTL विशाखापत्तनम, ADRDE आगरा सहित कई DRDO प्रयोगशालाओं ने SMART के लिए आवश्यक तकनीकों का विकास किया है।

जस्टिस एएस दवे, पूर्व न्यायाधीश और गुजरात HC के कार्यवाहक CJ का निधन
• गुजरात उच्च न्यायालय के पूर्व कार्यवाहक मुख्य न्यायाधीश न्यायमूर्ति अनंतकुमार सुरेंद्रराय दवे का 62 वर्ष की आयु में निधन हो गया।
• न्यायमूर्ति दवे को 2004 में गुजरात उच्च न्यायालय के न्यायाधीश के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया था और 2006 में स्थायी किया गया था।
• उन्हें 14 नवंबर, 2018 को गुजरात उच्च न्यायालय के कार्यवाहक मुख्य न्यायाधीश के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया था और सितंबर 2019 में वर्तमान मुख्य न्यायाधीश विक्रम नाथ के पद संभालने तक उनकी सेवा की थी।
वयोवृद्ध सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता पुष्पा भावे का निधन
• दिग्गज सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता प्रो पुष्पा भावे, जिन्हें मुंबई की आयरन लेडी के रूप में भी जाना जाता है, का लंबी बीमारी के बाद निधन हो गया है। वह 81 वर्ष की थीं।
• भावे अपने छात्र काल से ही राष्ट्र सेवा दल और लोकतांत्रिक आंदोलनों से जुड़ी रही हैं।

पुदुचेरी हवाई अड्डा एएआई का पहला 100% सौर ऊर्जा से संचालित हवाई अड्डा बना
• पुडुचेरी हवाई अड्डा भारतीय विमानपत्तन प्राधिकरण (एएआई) का पहला हवाई अड्डा बन गया है जो पूरी तरह से सौर ऊर्जा से संचालित है।
• 500KWp जमीन पर लगे सौर ऊर्जा संयंत्र को 2 अक्टूबर 2020 को चालू किया गया था। संयंत्र की अनुमानित लागत 2.8 करोड़ रुपये है।
• पूर्ण शक्ति-तटस्थ होने के साथ, पुडुचेरी हवाई अड्डा सौर ऊर्जा संयंत्र के माध्यम से अपनी संपूर्ण बिजली की आवश्यकता को पूरा करने में सक्षम होगा।

• प्रति वर्ष विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी का मानव स्थिति की बेहतरी में योगदान का जश्न मनाने के लिए 4 से 10 अक्टूबर तक विश्व अंतरिक्ष सप्ताह (WSW) मनाया जाता है, और है। 2020 की थीम "सैटलाइट्स इम्प्रूव लाइफ है।"
• संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा द्वारा 6 दिसंबर, 1999 को WSW को घोषित किया गया था। ये तारीखें पहली कृत्रिम उपग्रह, स्पुतनिक I के 4 अक्टूबर 1957 को लॉन्च होने और 10 अक्टूबर 1967 को चंद्रमा और अन्य आकाशीय वस्तुओं सहित बाहरी अंतरिक्ष की खोज और उपयोग पर राज्यों की गतिविधियों को नियंत्रित करने वाले सिद्धांतों पर संधि में प्रवेश की घोषणा की गई।
विश्व पर्यावास दिवस 2020
• विश्व निवास दिवस हर साल अक्टूबर के पहले सोमवार को दुनिया भर में मनाया जाता है ताकि हमारे कस्बों और शहरों की स्थिति और सभी को पर्याप्त आश्रय के मूल अधिकार के साथ-साथ लोगों को याद दिलाया जा सके कि वे निवास स्थान के लिए जिम्मेदार हैं।
