The Union Railway Ministry has launched Nivaran portal

The Railways Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu on 30 June 2016 launched NIVARAN portal, an online system for redressal of service related grievance of serving current and former railway employees.
The Portal is developed by CRIS, the IT arm of Indian Railways, on the basis of process designed by Establishment directorate of Railway Board which deals with staff matters.
•    This new initiative is a portal for the internal Grievance Redressal of Railway Employees & Former Railway Employees. 
•    It facilitates the employees to lodge their grievances and also monitor their progress. 
•    The system would also provide facility for lodging appeal to the higher authority in case the decision is not found satisfactory. 
•    Highest controlling authorities shall also be able to monitor the progress of grievance redressal by field offices.

The Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has launched ‘Prashikshak’

The Union Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Zubin Irani on 30 June 2016 launched the Prashikshak, a teacher education portal, with a vision to strengthen District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) and bring quality teachers into the Indian school education system.
•    For now, Prashiskshak Portal works only for DIETs, however it will cover block level institutes in the future and identify gaps at the bottom of the pyramid. 
•    Prashikshak is a unique IT initiative, a first of its kind in the country, which will contain a comprehensive database of all DIETs in the country with all relevant performance indicators. 
•    It will help benchmark DIETs to enable aspiring teachers to make informed choices about their future. 
•    It will give the opportunity to Union and State Governments to do real time monitoring of the institutions. 
•    The major users of Prashikshak will be Pre-service teacher educators, DIET principals and faculty, Policy makers at District, State Government and National Level and the General public.
•    It was established through joint collaboration between UnionMinistry of Human Resource Development and Central Square Foundation.

The Union Ministry of Power has launched ‘URJA’- Urban Jyoti Abhiyaan Mobile application

Union Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy Shri Piyush Goyal today launched ‘URJA’- Urban Jyoti Abhiyaan Mobile app on the side-lines of ongoing two day Conference of Power Ministers at Cansaulim in South Goa. 
•    The app is developed by Power Finance Corporation on behalf of Ministry of Power for Urban Power Distribution Sector to enhance consumer connect with the Urban Power Distribution sector by providing information of IT enabled towns on important parameters which concern the consumers like outage information, timely release of connections, addressing complaints, power reliability etc. 
•    The app will work as manifestation of Prime Minister’s principle of good governance i.e. People focus, co-operative federalism. 
•    The Union Minister also launched the Pradhan Mantri UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LED for all) Yojana in Goa with a target of replacing approximately 15 lakh LED bulbs, impacting nearly 5 lakh households. 
•    Under the scheme, consumers are entitled to 3 LED bulbs of 9W each at a subsidized rate of Rs.25/, as against a market price of Rs.300-350. 
•    The Scheme launched in the distinguished presence of Goa Chief Minister Shri Laxmikant Parsekar will help save over 78 million kwh every year in the state and about Rs.850-1000 on annual electricity bills. 
•    Besides, the Union Minister also launched “Vidyut Pravah” App at the event. Speaking on the occasion the Minister said the scope of “DEEP” (Discovery of Efficient Electricity Price) e-Bidding and e-Reverse Auction Portal has been further expanded by covering banking mechanism and the medium term procurement of Power. 
•    The Union Minister said the Government will soon start 100 percent smart metering to curb the menace of power theft. He said currently there is a loss around 24 to 26 percent due to theft of Power.

Sikkim becomes India’s first State to launch open government data portal

Sikkim became the first state in India to have an open government data portal linked ‘sikkim.data.gov.in’. 
•    The portal was launched by Lok Sabha MP, P D Rai and also launched Open Government Data Platform (Sikkim). 
•    The portal has been developed by Government of Sikkim’s Information Technology Department and NIC team from Delhi. 
•    The open government data portal facilitates free use, reuse and redistribution of data produced or commissioned by the government or government controlled entities by anyone.
•    Sikkim is a landlocked state of India, the last to give up its monarchy and fully integrate into India, in 1975. 
•    Located in the Himalayan Mountains, the state is bordered by Nepal to the west, China's Tibet Autonomous Region to the north and east, and Bhutan to the east. 
•    The Indian state of West Bengal lies to the south.

Internet Saathi, Google and Tata’s joint-initiative, launched in West Bengal

Internet search engine Google and Tata Trusts’ joint initiative Internet Saathi was launched on 8 June 2016 in Kolkata, West Bengal.
•    The initiative aims at reducing the digital gender gap in rural areas of India such as Purulia, where girls have now been trained to use the Internet and teach others in turn.
•    Internet Saathi had been successfully launched in five states. In July 2015, it began in four more states including West Bengal.
•    About Internet Saathi - Internet Saathi aims at empowering women and their communities by providing basic training on the usage and benefits of the internet.
•    The programme is driving a meaningful impact in improving the lives of women and their communities in rural India.
•    It focuses on training women in rural India to explore the various uses of Internet, who then impart training to the larger rural community in their own and neighbouring villages.
•    Google helps in training the Saathi’s and provides data enabled devices along with the training material.
•    On ground training classes is conducted by involving self help group federations and local NGO members who are supported by Tata Trusts on-ground network.
•    In the last ten months, the initiative has been active in villages across five states in India, namely Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

USAID launched India’s first integrated web portal designed Net Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) in India.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ministry of Power today launched India’s first integrated web portal designed to promote and mainstream Net Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) in India. 
•    The portal (www.nzeb.in (link is external)) was launched by Mr. Pradeep Kumar Pujari, Secretary, Ministry of Power, and Ambassador Jonathan Addleton, USAID Mission Director to India.
•    A first of its kind, the portal provides complete information about Net Zero Energy Buildings – those that generate as much energy as they use – as well as how to achieve near-zero energy status through the use of efficient lighting and equipment, integration of renewable energy technologies, and best practice design strategies.
•    The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is the United States Government agency which is primarily responsible for administering civilian foreign aid.
•    President John F. Kennedy created USAID from its predecessor agencies in 1961 by Executive Order. USAID's programs are authorized by the Congress in the Foreign Assistance Act, which the Congress supplements through directions in annual funding appropriation acts and other legislation.
•    Although it is technically an independent agency, USAID operates subject to the foreign policy guidance of the President, Secretary of State, and the National Security Council.
•    USAID operates in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe.

•    30th May-Saamanjasya Diwas, 
•    31st May-Sanyojan Diwas and 
•    1st June-Sanchaar Diwas. 
•    Shri Mohd. Jamshed shall be the Nodal Member. 
•    CRB and Board Members may also be visiting and participating in these activities as per their programmes. 
•    Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu has directed that all the General Managers should personally supervise various activities.
•    This practice is being done after a long time of regular complaint regarding features and qualities of railway services.

India's first multilingual dictionary"Bharatvani" launched

The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) on Wednesday launched a multilingual knowledge portal www.bharatavani.in that has more than 130 dictionaries, glossaries and terminology books in text and PDF formats.
•    The content in print and other formats will be completely digitized and put onto the portal in the form of searchable text. 
•    The portal has been launched in 22 scheduled languages, which eventually   will be extended to 100 more languages,
•    The App has 35 multilingual Dictionaries and HRD aims to extend it to 250 dictionaries in a year’s time
•    Bharatavani aims to foster national integration by emphasizing on            multilingual and cross-lingual learning tools and technologies.
•    The Bharatavani Portal would publish the content in the following main      sections:
Paa Thyapustaka Kosha : Textbooks by various authorities
Jnana Kosha : Encyclopedic Knowledge base in all languages
Shabda Kosha: Dictionaries, Glossaries, Terminologies,
Bhasha Kosha: Language learning books
Suchanaa Praudyogikii Kosha : It tools ( right now linked to TDIL)
Bahumaadhyama Kosha: Multimedia content
•    More than 130 Dictionaries, Glossaries and Terminology books have been   posted on the web portal. These dictionaries are available in text and PDF   formats.

President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurates Intelligent Operations Centre and launches Mobile App Monitor

On 19th May President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated an Intelligent Operations Centre (IOC) in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
President Mukherjee also launched a Mobile App Monitor for transformation of President’s Estate into a smart township. The Smart President’s Estate will work around the 4H theme of a Humane, Hi-tech,Heritage and Happy Township.
•    The IOC is a software solution designed by IBM.
•    It helps collect and make sense of the rich data streaming in from several sources within the Estate to provide intelligent insights.
•    It offers integrated data visualization, near real-time collaboration and deep analytics that will help agencies prepare for problems, coordinate and manage response efforts and enhance efficiency of services.
•    The Monitor mobile application is a Residents collaboration tool of the Intelligent Operation Center.
•    The application will help residents and domain (Energy, Water, Horticulture, Waste and Security) supervisors to collaborate in a smarter way for their observations.
•    It will enable residents to report issues such as broken street lights, electricity failure, water wastage etc. and check resolution status using their mobile devices.
•    It will allow residents to report these issues using their mobile devices in the Estate on a real time basis.
•    These reported observations can be used to provide enough details such as location coordinates, address to concerned departments.
•    This will help the residents of the Estate become more socially responsible, aware and collaborative.

Portal for Contract Labour Payment Management System launched

On 4 May 2016 Piyush Goyal, launched ‘Contract Labour Payment Management System’
•    It is a new portal of Coal India Limited (CIL).
•    This will help the government to curb problems like corruption and exploitation of contractual workers by contractors.
•    It has been planned to make payment to the contractors only after submitting a system generated declaration of compliance.
•    It is an integrated system for all subsidiaries of CIL.
•    The in-house developed application will maintain a comprehensive database of all contract workers in CIL and all its subsidiaries.
•    The portal will be managed by the Central Mine Planning and Development Institute (CMPDI), Ranchi.
•    The system has in-built mechanism to validate minimum wages paid, generate wage slips and employment card.
•    It provides access to all contract workers, through a Workers Identification Number (WIN)
•    It will allow contract workers to register their grievance.
•    The Nodal Officer at different locations in the company will monitor the process.
•    This will enhance proper monitoring of legal compliances under Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act.
