Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary observed as National Youth Day
National Youth Day was observed on 12 January 2017 to mark the 154th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The day is observed with an aim to recognise the ideals and teachings of Vivekananda and project him as a role model for the Indian youth.
● In 1984, the Union Government declared that 12 January, i.e. the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda will be observed as the National Youth Day. His birthday has been celebrated as the National Youth Day since 12 January 1985.
● On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his tweet said, “We offer salutations to the great Swami Vivekananda & remember his powerful thoughts & ideals that continue shaping the minds of generations’.
● Born on 12 January 1863 in an aristocratic family in West Bengal, Vivekananda was an Indian monk and a chief disciple of the 19th-century Indian spiritualist Ramakrishna. His original name was Narendra Nath Datta.
भारत में 12 जनवरी 2017 को स्वामी विवेकानंद जयंती को राष्ट्रीय युवा दिवस के रूप में मनाया गया. इस दिवस का उद्देश्य विवेकानंद की शिक्षाओं एवं आदर्शों को भारतीय युवाओं के लिए रोल मॉडल के रूप में पेश किया जाना है.
● इस वर्ष स्वामी विवेकानंद की 154वीं जयंती मनाई जा रही है. वर्ष 1984 से केंद्र सरकार ने प्रत्येक वर्ष 12 जनवरी को राष्ट्रीय युवा दिवस के रूप में मनाये जाने का फैसला सुनाया था. इस निर्णय के बाद पहली बार वर्ष 1985 में युवा दिवस मनाया जाने लगा.
● इस अवसर पर प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने एक ट्वीट करके कहा, “हम स्वामी विवेकानंद को उनके शक्तिशाली तथा प्रभावशाली विचारों द्वारा उनके बाद आने वाली कई पीढियों के मन को उचित आकार देने के लिए उनका हार्दिक धन्यवाद तथा उन्हें नमन करते हैं.”
● वे एक भारतीय संत थे तथा स्वामी रामाकृष्णा उनके गुरु थे.
● उन्हें भारत का अग्रणी सामाजिक सुधारक तथा दार्शनिक माना जाता है.
