SP Vaid appointed as Director General of J&K police
The Jammu and Kashmir government on 28 December 2016 cleared the appointment of Dr Shesh Pal Vaid, Special DG, Coordination and Law and Order, as new Director General of Police. Vaid.
● His appointment was approved at a cabinet meet chaired by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
● He is the second officer from Jammu to have risen to the post of Director General of Police.
● He carries an immense experience in operations against the militants.
● He was promoted to the rank of DG and appointed as DGP (Prisons) on 3 March 2016.
● He was transferred and posted as Special DG (Coordination and Law & Order) on 8 September 2016.
● He survived a major explosion in September 1991, while serving as the Superintendent of Police, Jammu.
● On 21 March 1991, he was ambushed by militants. At that time, he was posted in the Baramulla-Kupwara range near Sopore as Deputy Inspector General of Police.
जम्मू कश्मीर में 28 दिसंबर 2016 को एस पी वैद्य को जम्मू कश्मीर पुलिस का नया महानिदेशक नियुक्त किया गया.
● वे महानिदेशक के पद पर के राजेन्द्र कुमार का स्थान लेंगे. कुमार का कार्यकाल 31 दिसंबर 2016 को समाप्त हो रहा है.
● सत्तावन वर्षीय वैद्य वर्तमान में जम्मू कश्मीर पुलिस के विशेष महानिदेशक (कानून व्यवस्था) पद पर कार्यरत हैं. नए पुलिस महानिदेशक के तौर पर उनका कार्यकाल अक्तूबर 2019 तक होगा.
● वैद्य का यह कार्यकाल इसलिए चुनौतीपूर्ण माना जा रहा है क्योंकि इस समय घाटी में स्थानीय युवा आतंकी विचारधारा की ओर आकर्षित हो रहे हैं.
● एस पी वैद्य वर्ष 1986 बैच के आईपीएस अधिकारी हैं. उन्होंने इस अवसर पर कहा कि उनका उद्देश्य पुलिस बल को लोगों के लिए अधिक से अधिक अनुकूल बनाना है.
● इससे पहले, एमएम खजुरिया ने 1985 में यह पद संभाला था. हालांकि वह जम्मू से डीजीपी बनने वाले पहले नियमित आईपीएस अधिकारी हैं, जबकि खजूरिया को राज्य कैडर से आईपीएस में लिया गया था.
