Ravichandran Ashwin wins Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Cricketer of the Year 2016
Ravichandran Ashwin on 22 December 2016 won the coveted Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy.
● Ashwin was chosen for the award after being adjudged the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test Cricketer of the Year. With this, he became the second Indian player after Rahul Dravid to bag the two prestigious prizes in the same year.
● Ace cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was awarded with the prestigious trophy in the year 2010. The other recipients of the Sir Garfield Trophy include Andrew Flintoff, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Mitchell Johnson among others.
● Ravichandran Ashwin is a right-handed batsman and right-arm off break bowler.
● He plays for the Rising Pune Supergiants in the IPL.
● Ashwin is the fastest Indian bowler to reach the 50-, 100-, 150- and 200-wicket mark in Test cricket.
● He is the only bowler of recent times apart from Ajantha Mendis of Sri Lanka to bowl the carrom ball.
भारतीय किक्रेटर व ऑफ स्पिनर रविचंद्रन अश्विन को आईसीसी ने वर्ष 2016 के आईसीसी क्रिकेटर ऑफ दि ईयर अवार्ड हेतु चयनित किया है. हाल ही में उन्हें आईसीसी टेस्ट बॉलर रैकिंग में शीर्ष रैंकिंग प्रदान की गयी.
● इस अवार्ड के तहत उन्हें सर गारफील्ड सोबर्स ट्रॉफी से प्रदान की जाएगी. यह ट्रॉफी जीतने वाले किक्रेटर आर अश्विन तीसरे भारतीय हो गए. यह घोषणा इंटरनेशनल क्रिकेट काउंसिल (आईसीसी) ने 22 दिसंबर 2016 को की.
● आईसीसी के वर्ष 2016 की टेस्ट क्रिकेट टीम में स्थान बनाने वाले 30 वर्षीय चेन्नई के रविचंद्रन अश्विन अकेले भारतीय क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी हैं. इससे पूर्व वर्ष 2004 में राहुल द्रविड़ और साल 2010 में सचिन तेंदुलकर को यह ट्रॉफी प्रदान की जा चुकी है.
● अश्विन ने इस वर्ष 2016 में आठ टेस्ट मैचों में 15.39 का जबर्दस्त औसत देते हुए कुल 48 विकेट हासिल किए.
● हाल में संपन्न भारत-इंग्लैंड टेस्ट सीरीज में अश्विन ने कुल 28 विकेट प्राप्त किए.
● इस सीरीज में भारत ने 4-0 से विजय प्राप्त की. आईसीसी टेस्ट की ऑलराउंडर्स की सूची में भी अश्विन शीर्ष पर स्थापित हैं.
● अंतर्राष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट में 442 विकेट प्राप्त करने वाले 30 वर्षीय अश्विन के नाम टेस्ट में 248 विकेट हैं.
