Ravi Reddy Appointed as International Society for Blood Transfusion Head
An Indian-origin South African Ravi Reddy was on 18 September 2016 appointed as the Head of International Society for Blood Transfusion (ISBT), headquartered in Amsterdam.
• With this, Reddy became the first person from the African continent to head ISBT.
• The ISBT, now with 100 member countries, was established in 1935 as a platform for exchanging knowledge and advancing the blood-transfusion practice.
• He is currently serving as the Chief Operations Officer of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS).
• He has served in various capacities for more than three decades after starting out as a volunteer at the age of 16 at SANBS.
• He subsequently qualified as a medical technologist with an MBA from the University of Natal in South Africa.
• He represented the African region on the board of the ISBT between 2006 and 2012, and is also a member of the Working Party on Transfusion and Transmissible Infections.
• He has presented and published a large number of scientific papers.
भारतीय मूल के दक्षिण अफ्रीकी नागरिक रवि रेड्डी को 18 सितंबर 2016 रक्ताधान सुरक्षा हेतु चिकित्सकों के वैश्विक संगठन (आईएसबीटी) का प्रमुख नियुक्त है. उनकी नियुक्ति एम्सटर्डम मुख्यालय पर की गयी है.
अफ्रीकी महाद्वीप से इस पद पर पहुंचने वाले रवि रेड्डी पहले व्यक्ति हैं. आईएसबीटी 1935 में स्थापित किया गया.
• इसके सदस्यों में 100 सदस्य देश है.इसका उद्देश्य रक्त आधान अभ्यास सम्बन्धी जानकारी का आदान प्रदान करना और प्रोत्साहित कर मंच के रूप में स्थापित करना है.
• वर्तमान में वह दक्षिण अफ्रीकी नेशनल ब्लड सेवा के मुख्य परिचालन अधिकारी (एसएएनबीएस) के रूप में सेवारत है.
• उन्होंने (एसएएनबीएस) के साथ 16 साल की उम्र में ही एक स्वयंसेवक के रूप अपनी सेवाएं देना आरम्भ की.
• वह तीन से अधिक दशकों तक विभिन्न पदों पर एसएएनबीएस में कार्यरत रहे.
• बाद में उन्होंने दक्षिण अफ्रीका में नटाल विश्वविद्यालय से एमबीए के साथ एक मेडिकल टेक्नोलॉजिस्ट के रूप में अर्हता प्राप्त की.
• उन्होंने 2006 और 2012 के बीच आईएसबीटी के बोर्ड पर अफ्रीकी क्षेत्र का प्रतिनिधित्व किया. वह आधान और संक्रामक संक्रमण पर कार्यरत टीम के सदस्य भी है.
• उन्होंने बड़ी संख्या में वैज्ञानिक शोध पत्र प्रस्तुत और प्रकाशित किए.
