Prabhakar Jog declared as the winner of Maharashtra Lata Mangeshkar Award for Lifetime Achievement 2015

Maharashtra State Government announced Indian Violinist and music composer Prabhakar Jog as the winner of Lata Mangeshkar Award for Lifetime Achievement (2015) for his contribution in the field of Music. The award carries a cash reward of 5 lakh rupees, a citation, a trophy and a shawl. Prabhakar Jog had worked as music composer, music coordinator and violinist with many renowned music directors of old time including Madanmohan, S.D. Burman, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Shankar-Jaikishan, O.P.Nayyar, Usha Khanna, Khayyam, Ravindra Jain, Jaidev.

About Prabhakar Jog

Prabhakar Jog was born in Haregaon, Maharashtra on December 25, 1932. He took lessons in classical vocal music from Pt. Gajananrao Joshi and Pt. Narayanrao Marulkar for 5-6 years. Prabhakar Jog got his first break as a violinist for a marathi film Shri Gurudevdatta.  He played an integral part in the creation of Geet Ramayana series with Mr. Sudhir Phadke. Geet Ramayana was written by Mr. G.D. Madgulkar and music was composed by Mr. Sudhir Phadke. It was a prestigious milestone of Akashwani Pune Kendra. He also composed music pieces for more than 40 songs in Geet Ramayana series.

Lata Mangeshkar Award--The Lata Mangeshkar Award is a national-level award instituted to honour works in the field of music. Various State Governments of India presents Lata Mangeshkar Award. The State Government of Madhya Pradesh started Lata Mangeshkar Award in 1984. The award consists of a certificate of merit and a cash prize. The Maharashtra Government started Lata Mangeshkar Award which is also officially known as “Lata Mangeshkar Award for Lifetime Achievement from 1992. This annual award is given generally on or around December 4, on Lata Mangeshkar’s birthday, in Indore.
