Oscar winning music composer AR Rahman was honoured with the Tamil Ratna Award by the New York based Tamil Sangam.
Noted music composer A.R. Rahman on 15 August 2016 was honoured with the Tamil Ratna Award.
• The award was presented by New York based Tamil Sangam.
• Rahman was bestowed with the honour after his concert at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) chamber.
• A.R. Rahman's works are noted for integrating Eastern classical music with electronic music, world music and traditional orchestral arrangements.
• His body of work for film and stage has earned him the nickname of the Mozart of Madras.
• In 2009, Time included him on its list of the world's most influential people.
• The UK-based world-music magazine Songlines named him one of Tomorrow's World Music Icons in August 2011.
• He has also won two Grammy Awards: Best Compilation Soundtrack Album and Best Song Written for Visual Media.
• His work in 127 Hours won him Golden Globe, BAFTA, and two Academy Award nominations (Best Original Music Score and Best Original Song) in 2011.

• रहमान को संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा (यूएनजीए ) के कक्ष में अपने संगीत कार्यक्रम के बाद सम्मानित किया गया था।
• ए.आर. रहमान इलेक्ट्रॉनिक संगीत , संगीत की दुनिया और पारंपरिक आर्केस्ट्रा की व्यवस्था के साथ पूर्वी शास्त्रीय संगीत को एकीकृत करने के लिए विख्यात हैं ।
• फिल्म और रंगमंच के लिए काम करने से उन्हें मद्रास के मोजार्ट के उपनाम से भी जाना जाता है।
• 2009 में वो दुनिया के सबसे प्रभावशाली लोगों की सूची में शामिल थे।
• ब्रिटेन स्थित विश्व संगीत पत्रिका सोंगलाइन्स ने 2011 में उन्हें कल के विश्व संगीत आइकॉन नामित किया था ।
• सर्वश्रेष्ठ संकलन ध्वनि एल्बम और दृश्य मीडिया के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ गीत के लिए वो दो ग्रैमी पुरस्कार भी जीत चुके है।
• 127 हौर्स में उनका काम उसे गोल्डन ग्लोब, बाफ्टा और दो अकादमी पुरस्कार नामांकन (सर्वश्रेष्ठ मूल संगीत स्कोर और सर्वश्रेष्ठ मूल गीत) 2011 में दिला चुका है।
