Meng Hongwei elected as Interpol President
Meng Hongwei, a top-level Chinese Security Minister was elected as the president of the International Crime fighting and police cooperation organization (Interpol). Meng will serve as President until 2020.
● With this appointment, Meng Hongwei becomes the first official from China to take the post. He has previously served as the head of Interpol China. At the time of this appointment, he was holding the position of China’s Vice Minister for public security.
● He was sworn into his new position on 10 November 2016 at the closing of the organisation’s 85th general assembly in Bali, Indonesia.
● The organization was founded in 1914 and is headquartered in Lyon, France.
● It is the second largest international organisation after the United Nations with 190 members.
● It plays an important role in deepening global police cooperation and tackling transnational criminal offenses.
● Election of Meng Hongwei, a Chinese national, to the world’s largest law enforcement agency turned up to be a reason for concern.
● His appointment is a concern for human right advocates because he belongs to the nation, where human right abuses are visible.
चीन के गृह और जनसुरक्षा उपमंत्री मेंग होंगवेई को अंतरराष्ट्रीय अपराध विरोधी पुलिस संगठन (इंटरपोल) का प्रमुख चुना गया है. जन सुरक्षा उप मंत्री मेंग होंगवेई इस प्रतिष्ठित पद पर पहुंचने वाले प्रथम चीनी हैं. उनकी नियुक्ति तत्काल प्रभाव से कर दी गई है.
● उपमंत्री मेंग होंगवेई ने बाली में इंटरपोल की 85वीं महासभा में अपने पूर्वाधिकारी फ्रांस के मिरेल बलेस्त्राजी से यह पदभार ग्रहण किया. मेंग इंटरपोल की कार्यकारी समिति के अध्यक्ष होंगे जो इस संगठन की दशा और दिशा तय करता है. इंटरपोल प्रमुख ने इसकी कार्यकारी समिति की अध्यक्षता की. वह महासभा द्वारा चार साल के लिए महासचिव चुने गए हैं.
● चीनी विदेश मंत्रालय के प्रवक्ता लु कां के अनुसार चीन और अधिक जिम्मेदारियां उठाना चाहता है और वह दुनिया में कानून लागू करने में सहयोग करेगा.
● ससे चीन में भ्रष्टाचार विरोधी अभियान को भी बढ़ावा मिलेगा.
● इससे बीजिंग को अपने भगोड़ों तथा विदेशों में रह रहे संदिग्धों को खोजने में मदद मिलेगी.
● चिनफिंग द्वारा शुरू किए गए इस अभियान के तहत अभी तक दस लाख से ज्यादा अधिकारियों को सजा दी गई है.
● चीनी पुलिस कम से कम 61 देशों से 400 से ज्यादा भगोड़ों को वापस लेकर आई है.
● इंटरपोल का गठन 1914 में हुआ था.
● इसका मुख्यालय लियान में है.
● 190 सदस्य देशों वाले संयुक्त राष्ट्र के बाद इंटरपोल दूसरा सबसे बड़ा अंतरराष्ट्रीय संगठन है.
● इससे चीन में देश की भ्रष्टाचार रोधी कार्रवाई को प्रोत्साहन मिलेगा, साथ ही वह देश के भगोड़ों को भी पकड़ सकेगा.
