Junior Hockey World Cup: India claimed title
For the second time this year, Harjeet Singh's junior Indian men's hockey team beat Belgium on the way to lifting a trophy; this one, however, was the biggest prize of all.
● In its first such final in 15 years, India overwhelmed Belgium 2-1 to lift the 2016 Hockey Junior World Cup at Lucknow's Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium on Sunday and become the second team, after Gagan Ajit Singh's colts in 2001, to get their hands on the most coveted title.
● On the biggest day for Indian junior men's hockey since the class of 2001 claimed the Junior World Cup, Harjeet's dominating Indian team was put ahead within minutes when Gurjant Singh stunningly knocked one past Belgium goalkeeper Loic van Doren to give the colts a much-needed boost and an early lead.
● This win maintained India's 100% record in the tournament and underlined their status as rightful winners.
● Belgium, having stunned six-time champions and defending champions Germany 4-3 in a shoot-out in the semi-finals, were overawed in the initial passages of their first Junior World Cup final.
यूपी के ध्यानचंद स्टेडियम में खेले गए जूनियर हॉकी विश्व कप का खीताब भारत ने अपने नाम कर लिया है। इस मुकाबले में भारत ने बेल्जियम को 2-1 से हराकर 15 साल बाद दोबारा विश्व विजेता का खिताब हासिल किया।
● मैच के शुरुआत से ही भारत ने बेल्जियम पर दबाव बनाए रखा। अंतिम समय तक भारत के दो गोल के जवाब में बेल्जियम मात्र एक गोल ही दाग पाया।
● भारत की ओर से पहला गोल 8 मिनट में गुरजंत सिंह ने जबकि दूसरा गोल स्ट्राइकर सिमरनजीत सिंह ने 22 मिनट में दागा।
● भारतीय टीम पंद्रह बरस बाद जूनियर हॉकी विश्व कप का खिताब अपने नाम किया।
● इससे पहले 2001 में ऑस्ट्रेलिया के होबर्ट में भारतीय टीम ने अर्जेंटीना को 6-1 से हराकर एकमात्र जूनियर विश्व कप जीता था।
● भारत और बेल्जियम के बीच जूनियर विश्व कप हॉकी का फाइनल देखने के लिए कई अतिविशिष्ट अतिथि भी दर्शक दीर्घा में मौजूद थे जिनमें मुख्यमंत्री अखिलेश यादव और राज्यपाल राम नाईक शामिल थे।
● भारतीय टीम के ड्रैग फ्लिकर हरमनप्रीत सिंह को यहां भारत और बेल्जियम के बीच जूनियर हॉकी विश्व कप के फाइनल से पहले फैंस च्वाइस प्लेयर पुरस्कार से नवाजा गया जबकि न्यूजीलैंड टीम को फेयरप्ले पुरस्कार मिला।
● विश्व कप में भाग लेने वाली 16 टीमों में से न्यूजीलैंड को खेलभावना के उत्कृष्ट प्रदर्शन के लिये यह पुरस्कार मिला। दूसरी ओर हरमनप्रीत ने लीग चरण में बेहतरीन प्रदर्शन करके भारत की जीत में अहम भूमिका निभाई।
