ISRO’s proposed Venus Orbiter Mission

After the successful Mars Orbitor mission, ISRO proposed Venus Orbiter Mission. Under this mission, orbiter will study the atmosphere of venus.
Importance of the mission:
Till date, Russia, US and European Space Agency have successfully sent missions to Venus. Japan also got success in this mission with the insertion of 'Akatsuki' into the venus orbit. Thus,success in this technology will enshrine our caliber in the world.
About Venus:
- It is the second planet from the Sun.
- It is the second brightest object in the night sky after the Moon.
- Venus is the second largest terrestrial planet and is sometimes referred to as the Earth’s sister planet due the their similar size and mass.
- The surface of the planet is obscured by an opaque layer of clouds made up of sulfuric acid.
- A day on Venus lasts longer than a year of earth.
- It rotates counter-clockwise.
- Atmospheric pressure on Venus is 92 times greater than the Earth.
- It is the hottest planet in our solar system.
