IOC Strips 10 athletes of their Olympic Medals
The International Olympic Committee stripped ten athletes of their medals from 2008 Olympics. The move came after these athletes were tested positive for various banned steroids during the retest of their samples from the games.
● Among the ten athletes, nine belong to former Soviet Union countries.
● None of them were gold medalists.
● Three were silver medalists: Wrestlers Vitaly Rahimov and Khasan Baroev from Azerbaijan and Russia respectively and weightlifter Irina Nekrasova from Kazakhstan.
● Two were bronze medalists: Triple jumper Chrysopigi Devetzi from Greece and pole vaulter Denys Yurchenko from Ukraine.
● These results take the total of weightlifting medalists tested positive for banned substances in 2008 Olympics to 22.
● Apart from them, six athletes who did not win any medal during the 2008 games were also disqualified.
● One among the disqualified six is Russia’s Elena Slesarenko-women’s high jump gold medalist in 2004- who came fourth in 2008 games and Ukraine’s Vita Palamar, who came fifth.
अंतरराष्ट्रीय ओलंपिक समिति ने 2008 ओलंपिक पदकों के विजेता रहे दस एथलीटों से उनके पदक वापस ले लिए. यह कदम संबंधित एथलीटों के अलग– अलग प्रतिबंधित स्टेरोयॉड्स के सेवन का दोषी पाए जाने पर उठाया गया है.
● दस में से नौ एथलीट भूतपूर्व सोवियत संघ देशों के हैं.
● इनमें से कोई भी स्वर्ण पदक विजेता नहीं है.
● तीन रजत पदक विजेता हैः पहलवान विटाली रहिमोव और खासान बारोएव , क्रमशः अजरबैजान और रूस के, एवं कजाकिस्तान के भारोत्तोलक एरीना नेकरासोवा.
● दो कांस्य पदक विजेता हैं– ग्रीस की ट्रिपल जंपर क्रिसोपिगि देवेत्जी और यूक्रेन के पोल वॉल्टर डेनिस युरचेनकोव.
● इन नतीजों के बाद 2008 ओलंपिक में प्रतिबंधित दवाओं के सेवन का दोषी पाए जाने वाले कुल पदक विजेता भारोत्तोलकों की संख्या 22 हो गई है.
● इनके अलावा, 2008 ओलंपिक खेलों में कोई भी पदक नहीं जीत सके छह एथलीटों को भी अयोग्य घोषित कर दिया गया है.
● इन छह अयोग्यों में से एक हैं रूस की एलीना स्लेसारेन्को– 2004 में महिला उंची कूद प्रतियोगिता की स्वर्ण पदक विजेता– 2008 के ओलंपिक में वे चौथे स्थान पर थीं और यूक्रेन की वीटा पालमर, यह पांचवें स्थान पर रहीं थीं.
