India signals peace on Indus Water issue
Signalling a step back from tensions in the past month over the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan, India said there was “no reason” the two countries could not sort out their differences as they have in the past.
● India had objected to the World Bank’s earlier decision as it said the acceptance of Pakistan’s appeal for an arbitration process under article IX was “illegal”, accusing the World Bank of “favouring Pakistan”.
● The strong language of the statement appeared to have weighed with the World Bank, and on December 12, the day its President Jim Yong Kim was due to announce the names chosen for the arbitration panel and as mediator.
● The World Bank plans to send an expert, Ian Solomon to New Delhi and Islamabad in the next few weeks to discuss the issues for both governments and help restart talks between them.
● Pakistan did not comment on the World Bank decision against its proposal to bypass the bilateral process.
भारत ने उम्मीद जताई है कि सिंधु जल संधि के तहत उसे मिले अधिकारों में पाकिस्तान को अड़चन नहीं डालना चाहिए।
● विदेश राज्य मंत्री वीके सिंह ने गुरुवार को राज्यसभा में लिखित जवाब में कहा कि भारत 56 साल पुरानी इस संधि का अक्षरश: पालन करता है।
● उन्होंने कहा कि हाल के दिनों में पाक विदेश मंत्रालय ने भारत द्वारा संधि के उल्लंघन के आरोप लगाए हैं।
● भारत ने की 110 भगोड़ों के प्रत्यर्पण की मांग
● विदेश राज्य मंत्री ने कहा कि भारत ने विभिन्न देशों से 110 भगोड़ों के प्रत्यर्पण की मांग की है और इस पर कार्रवाई विभिन्न चरणों में है।
● 2002 से आतंकी समेत 62 भगोड़े अपराधियों को वापस भारत लाने में सफलता मिली है।
● भारत ने अब तक 47 देशों के साथ प्रत्यर्पण संधि की है। इसके अलावा अन्य नौ देशों के साथ प्रत्यर्पण व्यवस्था भी की गई है।
● वीके सिंह ने कहा कि फ्रांस और रूस ने परमाणु आपूर्तिकर्ता समूह (एनएसजी) की सदस्यता के लिए भारत के दावे का समर्थन किया है। जबकि ब्राजील ने इसके लिए सहमति जताई है।
● उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार इस मामले में जल्द फैसले के लिए एनएसजी के सभी सदस्यों के साथ उपयुक्त स्तरों पर संपर्क बनाए हुए है।
