Cyclone Fani expected to intensify into very severe cyclonic storm
• Cyclone Fani is expected to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm and will continue to move North West and change its path to North East.
• According to the MeT department, Cyclone Fani’s landfall over Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh is ruled out.
• However, the possibility of landfall in Odisha is under continuous watch.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed officials to take preventive measures to deal with Cyclone Fani.
• The National Disaster Response Force and Indian Coast Guard have been put on high and placed at the disposal of State Government Authorities.
Air India flights delayed due to software shutdown
• Around 135 flights of Air India were delayed on April 28, 2019 due to the ripple effect of the shutdown of its software.
• These flights were delayed by an average of 197 minutes.

3,000-kg garbage collected from Mt. Everest
• A total of 3,000 kg of solid waste has been collected from Mt. Everest since the launch of an ambitious clean-up campaign in Nepal on April 14, 2019.
• The campaign is aimed at bringing back tonnes of trash from the world’s highest peak Mt. Everest.
• The ‘Everest Cleaning Campaign’, led by Solukhumbu district’s Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality, aims to collect nearly 10000 kgs of garbage from Mt. Everest.
• Of the 3,000 kg garbage collected, 2000 kg was sent to Okhaldhunga while the remaining 1000 kg were brought to Kathmandu using Nepali Army helicopters for disposal.

2019 Global Food Policy report: Rural revitalisation key to eco growth
On 27th April 2019, according to the 2019 Global Food Policy Report (GFPR), rural areas continue to be in a state of crisis and threatening to slow the progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals, global climate targets, and improved food and nutrition security due to hunger, malnutrition, poverty, environmental degradation.
Key points:
i. The report was prepared by the Washington DC-based International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
ii. Rural transformation and revitalization have been pre-eminent goal of India’s development efforts since independence, according to the report.
iii. It also point out about the changing consumption patterns due to urbanization, increasing income, growing integration of food supply chains and food systems in India which offer new opportunities for entrepreneurship and employment in rural areas.
BANKING & FINANCE:
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has proposed strict rules on opening and running of current accounts of corporate borrowers in order to tackle fund diversion.
According to a report by The Economic Times, India’s Central Bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) would tighten rules on opening and operating current accounts of corporate borrowers to prevent the diversion of funds.
RBI had notified that the banks with collection accounts will have to transfer funds to the current account and the current accounts could be opened only with the lead bank of a lending association.
Key points:
i. The rules would be applicable to corporates who have borrowed and used credit facilities of more than Rs 50 crore from the banking system.
ii. Customers using credit facility of Rs 5 to Rs 50 crore can also open current accounts with any bank, even if it is not the consortium’s leading bank (which is not a consortium leader). But only collection accounts can be run with non-lending banks.
iii. The debits into accounts will be restricted to transfers to the current account with the lead bank.
iv. The Reserve Bank of India notified that the existing current accounts with banks not leading a consortium must be converted into collection accounts. In case they are not converted, the accounts are closed within a 3-month notice period.

Bajrang Punia became First Indian Wrestler to fight at New York’s Iconic Madison Square Garden
On 27th April 2019, 25 years old Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia became the first Indian wrestler to fight at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden.

i. He won the gold medal at the 65kg men’s freestyle wrestling at the recent Asian Championships.
ii. He is the first Indian wrestler to be invited by the American governing body and will take part in the “Grapple at the Garden — Beat the Streets” fight night, which will be held on 6th May 2019.

Former India footballer Kannan passes away
• Former India footballer P. Kannan passed away at a city hospital following prolonged illness. He was 80 and is survived by his wife and two daughters.
• Kannan, who was a forward and made 14 appearances for India, suffered a stroke earlier in the month.
• Born in Vandavasi in Tamil Nadu, Kannan played in Bengaluru, Kolkata and Chennai.
• He represented Universal RC for four years in the Chennai Football Association (CFA) senior division league.

The Asian Wrestling Championship 2019 was held in Xi’an, China from April 23 to April 28, 2019. India’s Nitendra Singh Rawat finishes 27th in Virgin Money London Marathon 2019
Nitendra-Singh-RawatOn 28th April 2019, Indian marathon runner, Nitendra Singh Rawat finished 27th in 2 hours 15 minutes and 59 seconds in the men’s Elite race of prestigious Virgin Money London Marathon 2019 at London,UK which was won by EliudKipchoge of Kenya for record fourth time.

चक्रवात ‘फोनी’: बहुत भयंकर चक्रवाती तूफान आने की आशंका, NDRF, तटरक्षक हाई अलर्ट पर; मछुआरों को समुद्र में न जाने का निर्देश
• गृह मंत्रालय ने सोमवार को कहा कि चक्रवात ‘फोनी’ के कारण सोमवार शाम तक बहुत भयंकर चक्रवाती तूफान आने की आशंका के मद्देनजर राष्ट्रीय आपदा मोचन बल (एनडीआरएफ) और भारतीय तटरक्षक बल को हाई अलर्ट पर रखा गया है तथा मछुआरों को समुद्र में न जाने के लिए कहा गया है। गुरुवार तक यह तूफान ‘बेहद खतरनाक चक्रवात’ का रूप ले सकता है। भारतीय मौसम विभाग (आईएमडी) के चक्रवात चेतावनी प्रभाग ने अपने दोपहर एक बजे के बुलेटिन में कहा कि चक्रवाती तूफान वर्तमान में त्रिंकोमाली (श्रीलंका) से 620 किलोमीटर पूर्व, चेन्नई (तमिलनाडु) से 880 किमी दक्षिण-पूर्व में और मछलीपट्टनम (आंध्र प्रदेश) से 1050 किमी दक्षिण-दक्षिणपूर्व में है।
• बुलेटिन में कहा गया, ‘‘अगले छह घंटों में इस चक्रवाती तूफान के और तेज होने की आशंका है तथा बाद के 24 घंटों में यह बहुत ही भयंकर चक्रवाती तूफान में तब्दील हो सकता है। इसके एक मई की शाम तक उत्तर-पश्चिम की ओर बढ़ने की संभावना है और इसके बाद धीरे-धीरे उत्तर-उत्तर-पूर्व की ओर फिर से बढ़ने की संभावना है।’’ मौसम विभाग ने कहा कि यह गुरुवार तक ‘‘बेहद गंभीर चक्रवात’’ में तब्दील हो सकता है।
एयर इंडिया सॉफ्टवेयर शटडाउन का असर, रविवार को 137 फ्लाइट्स लेट
• एयर इंडिया के चेक-इन सॉफ्टवेयर में शनिवार सुबह 5 घंटे तक आई दिक्कत का असर अब तक बना हुआ है। सरकारी एयरलाइन कंपनी ने कहा है कि आज भी 137 फ्लाइट्स लेट हो जाएंगी। रविवार को 137 फ्लाइट्स की औसत देरी 197 मिनट की होगी। एक दिन पहले भी एयर इंडिया के हजारों यात्रियों को मुश्किलों का सामना करना पड़ा।
• दुनियाभर में मौजूद एयर इंडिया के यात्री शनिवार सुबह (भारतीय समय के अनुसार) उस समय परेशान हो गए, जब उन्हें पता चला कि कंपनी के पैसेंजर सर्विस सिस्टम (PSS) सॉफ्टवेयर ने काम करना बंद कर दिया है और इसलिए उनकी फ्लाइट अभी उड़ नहीं पाएगी। चेक-इन, बैगेज और रिजर्वेशन सर्विस संभालने वाला सॉफ्टवेयर सुबह 3:30 से 8:45 तक डाउन रहा। कंपनी के प्रवक्ता ने बताया कि शनिवार को सॉफ्टवेयर शटडाउन की वजह से 149 फ्लाइट्स लेट हो गईं। औसत देरी 197 मिनट की थी।
माउंट एवरेस्ट से 3 हजार किलो कचरा साफ किया, पर्यावरण दिवस पर दिखाया जाएगा
• दुनिया की सबसे ऊंची पर्वत श्रंखला माउंट एवरेस्ट से 3 हजार किलो कचरा साफ किया गया है। नेपाल सरकार ने 14 अप्रैल से 45 दिनों का एवरेस्ट क्लीनिंग कैंपेन शुरू कर रखा है। इसके तहत 10 हजार किलो कूड़ा इकट्ठा करने का लक्ष्य है। अभियान पर तकरीबन 1 करोड़ 43 लाख रुपये खर्च होने हैं। सूत्रों का कहना है कि जिस तरह से कूड़ा मिल रहा है, उससे साफ है कि पर्वत श्रंखला कूड़े के ढेर में तब्दील हो रही है। सारा कूड़ा काठमांडू लाकर वर्ल्ड एनवायरमेंट डे यानी 5 जून के दिन लोगों को दिखाया जाएगा और फिर इसका निस्तारण किया जाएगा।
पर्यटन विभाग के निदेशक डंडू राज घिमिरे का कहना है कि सफाई अभियान 29 मई को पूरा होगा। इसी दिन एडमंड हिलेरी और तेनजिंग नॉर्गे ने 1953 में पहली बार एवरेस्ट पर फतह पाई थी।
• पर्वतारोहियों के साथ कुलियों के जरिए पहुंच रहा कूड़ा
सूत्रों का कहना है कि एवरेस्ट में जो कूड़ा मिला है, उसे या तो पर्वतारोही वहां पहुंचा रहे हैं, या फिर ऊंचे क्षेत्रों में काम करने वाले कुली। समय-समय पर शेरपा भी एवरेस्ट का भ्रमण करते हैं, उनसे भी कूड़ा वहां पहुंच रहा है। जो कूड़ा एकत्र किया गया है, उसमें प्लास्टिक, बीयर की बोतलों, कास्मेटिक के कवर जैसी चीजें शामिल हैं।
अंतरराष्ट्रीय:
वैश्विक खाद्य नीति रिपोर्ट-2019 जारी
• अंतरराष्ट्रीय खाद्य नीति अनुसंधान संस्थान (आइएफपीआरआइ) ने हाल ही में वैश्विक खाद्य नीति रिपोर्ट-2019 जारी की। रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक वैश्विक आर्थिक विकास बीते साल तेजी से आगे बढ़ा लेकिन यह खाद्य संकट की समस्या को कम करने में मददगार साबित नहीं हुआ।
• रिपोर्ट के अनुसार भूख और कुपोषण, गरीबी, सीमित आर्थिक अवसर तथा पर्यावरण क्षरण के कारण विश्व के कई हिस्सों में ग्रामीण क्षेत्र संकट की स्थिति से गुज़र रहे हैं।
बैंकिंग और अर्थव्यवस्था:
भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक (RBI) ने फंड डायवर्जन से निपटने के लिए कॉर्पोरेट उधारकर्ताओं के चालू खातों को खोलने और चलाने पर सख्त नियम प्रस्तावित किए –
द इकोनॉमिक टाइम्स, इंडियाज़ सेंट्रल बैंक की एक रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक (RBI) निधियों के मोड़ को रोकने के लिए कॉरपोरेट उधारकर्ताओं के चालू खातों को खोलने और संचालन पर नियम कड़े करेगा।
आरबीआई ने अधिसूचित किया था कि संग्रह खातों वाले बैंकों को चालू खाते में धनराशि हस्तांतरित करनी होगी और चालू खाते केवल एक ऋण देने वाले बैंक के मुख्य बैंक के साथ खोले जा सकते हैं।
प्रमुख बिंदु:
i. यह नियम उन कंपनियों पर लागू होगा, जिन्होंने बैंकिंग प्रणाली से 50 करोड़ रुपये से अधिक की ऋण सुविधाओं का इस्तेमाल किया है।
ii. 5 से 50 करोड़ रुपये की क्रेडिट सुविधा का उपयोग करने वाले ग्राहक किसी भी बैंक के साथ चालू खाते खोल सकते हैं, भले ही वह कंसोर्टियम का अग्रणी बैंक (जो कंसोर्टियम लीडर नहीं है)। लेकिन केवल संग्रह खाते गैर-उधार बैंकों के साथ चलाए जा सकते हैं।
iii. खातों में डेबिट को लीड बैंक के साथ चालू खाते में स्थानांतरित करने के लिए प्रतिबंधित किया जाएगा।
iv. भारतीय रिज़र्व बैंक ने अधिसूचित किया है कि जिन बैंकों के पास वर्तमान संघ के पास कंसोर्टियम नहीं है, उन्हें संग्रह खातों में परिवर्तित किया जाना चाहिए। यदि वे परिवर्तित नहीं होते हैं, तो खाते 3 महीने की नोटिस अवधि के भीतर बंद हो जाते हैं।

बजरंग पूनिया रचने वाले हैं इतिहास, अमेरिका से आया कुश्ती लड़ने का बुलावा
• भारत के बजरंग पूनिया को अमेरिका के न्यूयॉर्क में फाइट नाइट में खेलने के लिए बुलाया गया है। वह पहले भारतीय पहलवान हैं जिन्हें अमेरिका से फाइट करने का न्योता मिला है। यह मुकाबला 6 मई को न्यूयॉर्क के मेडिसन स्क्वेयर गार्डन में होने की संभावना है और इसका नाम 'ग्रेपल एट द गार्डन- बीट द स्ट्रीट्स' रखा गया है। यह टूर्नामेंट 9 साल से रेसलिंग में काफी बड़ा इवेंट बन चुका है. बजरंग इस समय 65 किलो भाग वर्ग में नंबर वन पुरुष पहलवान हैं। उन्होंने इसी सप्ताह की शुरुआत में एशियन रेसलिंग चैंपियनशिप में गोल्ड मेडल जीता था।
• फाइट नाइट में बजरंग पूनिया के सामने मुकाबले में दो बार के यूएस नेशनल चैंपियन यिआनी दियाकोमाहलिस होंगे। इस बारे में बजरंग ने बताया, 'अगर खिलाड़ी के नजरिए से देखा जाए तो यह मेडिसन स्क्वेयर गार्डन में कुश्ती करना काफी बड़ा अनुभव होगा। लेकिन खुशी भी है और डर भी। खुशी इसलिए कि मैं पहला भारतीय हूं जिसे वहां का बुलावा आया है डर है क्योंकि देश की इतनी उम्मीदें हैं।
भारत के स्टार गोल्फर गगनजीत भुल्लर को मिला आउटस्टैंडिंग अचिवमेंट पुरस्कार
• अर्जुन अवॉर्डी और भारत के स्टार गोल्फर गगनजीत भुल्लर को दिल्ली गोल्फ क्लब स्थित इंडिया गोल्फ इंडस्ट्री एसोसिएशन (जीआइए) के चौथे अवॉर्ड सत्र में एक खिलाड़ी के तौर पर आउटस्टैंडिंग अचिवमेंट पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया। जीआइए पुरस्कार का आयोजन दो दिवसीय इंडियन गोल्फ एंड टर्फ एक्सपो के आठवें संस्करण के साथ किया गया।
• भुल्लर ने 2018 में फिजी इंटरनेशनल यूरोपियन टूर खिताब जीता था। इसके अलावा वह एशियन टूर में नौ करियर खिताब जीतने वाले सबसे युवा गोल्फर हैं। भुल्लर ने इस पुरस्कार को ग्रहण करने के बाद कहा कि भारत में गोल्फ इंडस्ट्री का प्रतिनिधित्व करने वाले खास लोगों के बीच इस पुरस्कार को जीतना एक शानदार अहसास है। भारतीय गोल्फ और टर्फ एक्सपो जैसे कार्यक्रमों के माध्यम से पेशेवर गोल्फरों को एक मंच पर लाना एक बड़ा काम है।
• भुल्लर के अलावा विजय दिवेचा और नोनीता लाल कुरैशी को भी गोल्फ कोचिंग में उनके योगदान के लिए सम्मानित किया गया। दिवेचा ने अनिर्बान लाहिड़ी, चिकारंगप्पा और उदयन माने जैसे नामी गोल्फरों को कोचिंग दी है जबकि पूर्व अर्जुन अवॉर्डी कुरैशी को एक अंतरराष्ट्रीय खिलाड़ी के रूप में भारत में इस खेल में अपना अहम योगदान देने के लिए जाना जाता है।
विलय और अधिग्रहण:
भारत फाइनेंशियल (Bharat Financial) और इंडसइंड बैंक (Indusind Bank) के विलय को एनसीएलटी की मंजूरी
• खबरों के अनुसार भारत फाइनेंशियल (Bharat Financial) और इंडसइंड बैंक (Indusind Bank) के विलय को एनसीएलटी (NCLT) ने हरी झंडी दिखा दी है।
• विलय के बाद माइक्रोफाइनेंस कंपनी भारत फाइनेंशियल इंडसइंड बैंक की सहायक कंपनी बन जायेगी। खबर के मुताबिक दोनों कंपनियों का विलय 2-4 हफ्तों में पूरा हो सकता है।
गौरतलब है कि भारत फाइनेंशियल और इंडसइंड बैंक के विलय की घोषणा पिछले साल अक्टूबर में की गयी थी।
• इस खबर से भारत फाइनेंशियल और इंडसइंड बैंक दोनों के शेयरों में मजबूती देखने को मिल रही है। बीएसई में भारत फाइनेंशियल का शेयर 1,030.55 रुपये के पिछले बंद भाव की तुलना में सुबह मजबूती के साथ 1,047.75 रुपये पर खुला। करीब पौने 11 बजे यह 23.95 रुपये या 2.32% की बढ़ोतरी के साथ 1,054.50 रुपये पर चल रहा है। इस भाव पर भारत फाइनेंशियल की बाजार पूँजी 14,785.02 करोड़ रुपये है। वहीं पिछले 52 हफ्तों में कंपनी के शेयर का सर्वाधिक भाव 1,248.65 रुपये और निचला स्तर 824.30 रुपये रहा है।

पूर्व भारतीय फुटबॉलर पुंगम कन्नन का निधन
• भारत के पूर्व फुटबॉलर पुंगम कन्नन का 80 वर्ष की आयु में निधन हो गया है. कन्नन ने भारत के लिए 14 मैच खेले और वह पूर्व मोहन बागान और पूर्वी बंगाल फॉरवर्ड थे। उन्होंने लगातार दो बार (1971-73) में बंगाल के लिए संतोष ट्रॉफी जीती और शीर्ष स्कोरर रहे। उन्हें 'पेले ऑफ एशिया' के रूप में जाना जाता था।
एशियाई कुश्ती चैंपियनशिप: हरप्रीत को रजत, ज्ञानेंद्र को कांस्य, भारत के नाम 16 पदक
ग्रीको रोमन पहलवान हरप्रीत और ज्ञानेंद्र के क्रमश: रजत और कांस्य पदक के साथ भारत ने रविवार को एशियाई कुश्ती चैंपियनशिप में अपने अभियान को 16 पदकों के साथ समाप्त किया। प्रतियोगिता के आखिरी दिन हरप्रीत ने 82 किग्रा भारवर्ग में रजत जबकि ज्ञानेंद्र ने 60 किग्रा भारवर्ग में कांस्य पदक हासिल किया।

भारतीय मैराथन धावक, नितेन्द्र सिंह रावत ने 2 घंटे 15 मिनट और 59 सेकंड में 27 वें
• भारत के नितेंद्र सिंह रावत (2:15.59 सेकंड) प्रतिष्ठित लंदन मैराथन में 27वें स्थान पर रहे। रावत का यह मौजूदा सत्र में दूसरा सर्वश्रेष्ठ और कॅरिअर का चौथा सर्वश्रेष्ठ समय है। उन्होंने इस साल की शुरुआत में दो घंटे 15 मिनट और 52 सेकंड के समय के साथ मुंबई मैराथन जीतकर विश्व चैंपियनशिप (क्वालिफाइंग समय दो घंटे और 16 मिनट) के लिए क्वालिफाई किया था।
