India ranked 68th in the 2019 Global Competitiveness Index
• Singapore topped the 2019 Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) and pushed the US to the second place. India ranked 68th on the GCI. The list is compiled by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum (WEF).
• Top 5 countries of the list:

3) Hong Kong SAR
4) Netherlands

• Report highlights about India:
♦ India ranked 58th in the 2018 GCI report. It is among the worst-performing BRICS nations. The reports suggested that India should grow its skills base.
♦ India's product market efficiency has been undermined by a lack of trade openness.
♦ About Indian's labour market, WEF said that it is characterized by a lack of worker rights’ protections.
INTERNATIONAL:
India handed over 10,000 vials of antirabies vaccines to Myanmar
• India handed over 10,000 vials of anti-rabies vaccines to Myanmar. The move is to help Myanmar in its fight against the Rabies disease. The handing over ceremony was held in Yangon, Myanmar on 8 October. The vials of Anti-Rabies Vaccines were handed over by the Deputy Chief of Mission Sumit Seth to Myanmar's Director General of Department of Medical Research [DG(DMS)] Zaw Than Htun at the Indian Embassy in Myanmar.
• Aim:
The aim of the move of donating vials is to provide support to the Government of Myanmar for its fight against Rabies. This showcases the strength of India's pharmaceutical industry in manufacturing high-quality vaccines at a highly competitive price.
BUSINESS AND ECONOMY:
Google partners with the government for the Crafted in India project
• Google Arts & Culture’s new project Crafted in India was unveiled on 7 October. For this Google has partnered with the Ministry of Tourism, Dastkari Haat Samiti, and 20 other cultural institutions for the project.
Aim:
Crafted in India project aims to showcase the county's rich handicraft heritage. This will also make it accessible for the world to experience Indian crafts.
• Crafted in India:
♦ Crafted in India is the largest online exhibition on Indian Crafts.
♦ Over 50 of India's crafts will now be available in Crafted in India.
♦ Around 280+ exhibits and 11,000+ images & videos will give people an immersive tour of varied Indian craft forms including fabrics, embroidery, wall paintings to stonework, metal casting, wood carving, and more.
AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS:
IFS officer Ramesh Pandey to receive Asia Environmental Enforcement Award
• Senior Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Ramesh Pandey has been selected for the prestigious Asia Environmental Enforcement Award for the year 2019. He was selected by the UN Environment in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). He will receive the award at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok on 13 November 2019. The selection panel recognized Pandey for his excellent work to combat transboundary environmental crime.
Ramesh Pandey:
Ramesh Pandey is a 1996-batch IFS officer. He was posted as Chief Conservator Forests in Lucknow and Secretary, UP State Bio-diversity Board. He is popularly known for his investigation and intelligence gathering on poachers.
He was selected to be a part of the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau by the Indian government because of his work in Katarniaghat to curb poaching. He also served as Field Director of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve. He introduced the Monitoring System for Tigers Intensive Protection & Ecological Status (M-Strips), a new software-based patrolling in Dudhwa Tiger Reserve on the recommendation of the National Tiger Conservation Authority.
APPOINTMENTS AND RESIGNATIONS:
Gitesh Sarma appointed as Indias next High Commissioner to Australia
• Senior diplomat Anumula Gitesh Sarma is appointed as India's next High Commissioner to Australia. The announcement was made by the Ministry of External Affairs. He will be taking up the assignment soon. He replaces A.M Gondane as India's envoy in Australia.
• Anumula Gitesh Sarma:
Anumula Gitesh Sarma is a 1986 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer. Previously, Sarma was serving as Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). He has also served as the Indian envoy to Uzbekistan and Fiji.
SPORTS:
Simone Biles won the 21st World Gymnastics Championships medal
• Simone Biles, 22, set the record by clinching the World Gymnastics Championships 2019 in Stuttgart, Germany. This is Simone Biles' 21st medal at the championships. With this title, she became the most decorated women's gymnast in history. She defeated Russia's Svetlana Khorkina to win the title.
• The USA won the women's team won gold with a tally of 172.330 for the fifth time. Russians won the silver medal with a tally of 166.529 and Italy won bronze with a tally of 164.796.

भारत वैश्विक प्रतिस्पर्धिता सूचकांक में 68वें स्थान पर
• विश्व आर्थिक मंच (WEF) ने वैश्विक प्रतिस्पर्धिता सूचकांक (Global Competitive Index) रिपोर्ट जारी की है। देशों के प्रदर्शन का मूल्यांकन करने के लिए कुल मिलाकर 12 क्षेत्रों में 103 संकेतक वितरित किए गए थे। WEF की जारी रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, वैश्विक प्रतिस्पर्धा सूचकांक में भारत 10 स्थान फिसलकर 68वें स्थान पर आ गया है और सिंगापुर शीर्ष पर है।
इस साल ब्रिक्स देशों में ब्राज़ील भी 71वें स्थान पर भारत के साथ सबसे खराब प्रदर्शन करने वाली अर्थव्यवस्थाओं में एक है। WEF ने कहा कि वृहद आर्थिक स्थिरता और बाजार के आकार के मामले में भारत की रैंकिंग अच्छी है. वित्तीय क्षेत्र भी स्थिर है, लेकिन चूक की दर अधिक होने से बैंकिग प्रणाली प्रभावित हुई है।

भारत ने म्यांमार को एंटी रेबीज वैक्सीन की 10,000 शीशियां सौंपीं
•भारत ने म्यांमार को एंटी-रेबीज टीके की 10,000 शीशियां सौंपीं। यह कदम म्यांमार को रैबीज बीमारी से लड़ने में मदद करने के लिए है। 8 अक्टूबर को म्यांमार के यंगून में हैंडिंग ओवर समारोह आयोजित किया गया था। एंटी-रैबीज वैक्सीन की शीशियों को म्यांमार के भारतीय चिकित्सा दूतावास में Zaw Than Htun के डिप्टी चीफ ऑफ मिशन सुमित सेठ ने म्यांमार के डायरेक्टर जनरल ऑफ मेडिकल रिसर्च [DG (DMS)] को सौंपा।
• उद्देश्य:
शीशियों को दान करने का उद्देश्य म्यांमार सरकार को रैबीज के खिलाफ लड़ाई के लिए समर्थन प्रदान करना है। यह अत्यधिक प्रतिस्पर्धी मूल्य पर उच्च गुणवत्ता वाले टीकों के निर्माण में भारत के फार्मास्युटिकल उद्योग की ताकत को दर्शाता है।
व्यापार और अर्थव्यवस्था:
गूगल आर्ट्स एंड कल्चर की क्रॉफ्टेड इन इंडिया प्रदर्शनी का शुभारंभ
• भारत की हस्तशिल्प की समृद्घ धरोहर को प्रदर्शित करने तथा विश्व के लिए इसका अनुभव सुलभ बनाने गूगल आर्ट्स एंड कल्चर ने मंगलवार को अपनी नवीनतम प्रदर्शनी क्रॉफ्टेड इन इंडिया का शुभारंभ किया है। केंद्रीय पर्यटन मंत्रालय, दस्तकारी हाट समिति और 20 अन्य सांस्कृतिक संस्थानों के सहयोग से यह प्रोजेक्ट उपलब्ध है, यहां लोगों को विविध भारतीय शिल्प स्वरूपों-फैब्रिक्स से लेकर कढ़ाई, वॉल पेंटिग्स से लेकर स्टोन वर्क, धातु की ढलाई से लेकर लकड़ी पर नक्काशी तक को देखने और इसे रचने वाले कारीगरों के काम को सराहने का मौका तथा भारत में विरासत पर्यटन को बढ़ावा मिलेगा। केरल से कश्मीर तक, कच्छ से कोहिमा तक और सभी 29 भारतीय राज्यों से 50 भारतीय शिल्प अब क्रॉफ्टेड इन इंडिया पर प्रदर्शित होंगे, जो कि भारतीय शिल्प कलाओं पर सबसे बड़ी ऑनलाइन प्रदर्शनी है
मध्य प्रदेश की प्रसिद्ध बाग प्रिंट जो किलकड़ी के ठप्पों से की जाने वाली पेंटिंग का एक विशेष रूप है, इस प्रदर्शनी का प्रमुख आकर्षण है। दुनिया भर से लोग अब राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार विजेता उमर फारुक खत्री का बाग प्रिंट का कार्य देख सकते हैं और सदियों पुरानी उस कला प्रक्रिया की एक झलक पा सकते हैं। इसके साथ ही पारंपरिक रंग संयोजन (कलर पैलेर) तैयार करने तथा डिजाइन प्रिंट करने की कला को समझ सकते हैं। क्रॉफ्टेड इन इंडिया में मप्र की गोंड पेंटिंग कला परंपरा भी प्रदर्शित है। पद्श्री भज्जाू श्याम जैसे प्रसिद्घ गोंड चित्रकार को प्रदर्शित करने के साथ गोंड पेंटिंग प्रदर्शनी श्रृंखला में यह भी दिखाया गया है कि किस तरह से कलाकारों ने अपनी खास शैलियां विकसित कीं और कला में समकालीन तत्वों को शामिल करते हुए उन स्रोतों को समृद्घ बनाया, जिनसे उनकी कला का उद्भव हुआ।
पुरस्कार और सम्मान :
एशिया पर्यावरण प्रवर्तन पुरस्कार से नवाजे जाएंगे आईएफएस अधिकारी रमेश पांडे
• भारतीय वन सेवा के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी रमेश पांडे को संयुक्त राष्ट्र पर्यावरण कार्यक्रम के प्रतिष्ठित‘एशिया पर्यावरण प्रवर्तन पुरस्कार’ के लिए चुना गया है। पांडे 1996 बैच के आईएफएस अधिकारी हैं। लखनऊ में मुख्य वन संरक्षक और उत्तर प्रदेश राज्य जैव विविधता बोर्ड के सचिव पांडे को शिकारियों के खिलाफ जांच एवं खुफिया जानकारी एकत्र करने के लिए जाना जाता है। पांडे को बैंकॉक में संयुक्त राष्ट्र सम्मेलन केंद्र में 13 नवंबर को पुरस्कृत किया जाएगा। पांडे को पुरस्कार दिए जाने की घोषणा करते हुए उनकी प्रशंसा में कहा गया, ‘‘चयन समिति ने पर्यावरण संबंधी सीमा पार अपराध से निपटने में आपके उत्कृष्ट कार्य को पहचाना है। एशिया पर्यावरण प्रवर्तन पुरस्कार का मकसद पर्यावरण संबंधी सीमा पार अपराध को रोकने में उल्लेखनीय योगदान देने वाले संगठनों और लोगों को सार्वजनिक तौर पर मान्यता देना है।’’कतर्नियाघाट में शिकार को रोकने में पांडे के काम से प्रभावित होकर केंद्र सरकार ने वन्यजीव अपराध नियंत्रण ब्यूरो के गठन के समय उसके अधिकारी के रूप में उनका चयन किया था। केंद्र में अपने कार्यकाल में पांडे ने बाघों का शिकार करने वाले कई गिरोहों का भंडाफोड़ किया था और वन्यजीव तस्करी पर रोक लगाने के लिए हवाईअड्डे पर कड़ी सतर्कता बरती थी। हाल में दुधवा बाघ अभयारण्य के फील्ड निदेशक के तौर पर पांडे कतर्नियाघाट के संरक्षित क्षेत्र में कथित शिकार के लिए जाने माने गोल्फर ज्योति रंधावा की गिरफ्तारी को लेकर सुर्खियों में थे।
नियुक्तिया एवं त्यागपत्र:
ऑस्ट्रेलिया में भारत के उचायुक्त के पद पर अनुमुला गीतेश शर्मा को किया नियुक्त
• राजनयिक अनुमुला गीतेश शर्मा को ऑस्ट्रेलिया में भारत के अगले उच्चायुक्त के तौर पर नामित किया गया है। भारतीय विदेश मंत्रालय ने सोमवार को यह जानकारी साझा की है। सरमा साल 1986 के भारतीय विदेश सेवा के अधिकारी है और वह जल्द ही ऑस्ट्रेलिया में अपना कार्यभार संभालेंगे।
इससे पूर्व शर्मा उज्बेकिस्तान और फिजी में भारत के उच्चायुक्त के पद पर नियुक्त थे और वह ऑस्ट्रेलिया में एएम गोंडाने की जगह लेंगे। मौजूदा समय में वह विदेश मंत्रालय में पश्चिमी सचिव के तौर पर कार्यरत है।

सिमोन बाइल्स ने 21 वीं विश्व जिमनास्टिक चैंपियनशिप पदक जीता
• सिमोन बाइल्स ने जर्मनी के स्टटगार्ट में 15 वीं विश्व जिमनास्टिक चैम्पियनशिप का खिताब जीतने का रिकॉर्ड बनाया है। जीत के साथ, वह इस कार्यक्रम में सबसे अधिक खिताब जीतने वाली महिला बन गई है। सिमोन बाइल्स ने विश्व जिमनास्टिक चैंपियनशिप में 21 वां पदक जीता क्योंकि संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका ने अपनी महिला टीम को खिताब के चारों ओर बनाए रखा।
