Argentine filmmaker Pablo Cesar to head 51st IFFI”s International Jury
• The International Jury for 51st edition of International Film Festival of India has been announced with eminent filmmakers from across the world. According to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, the Jury will comprise Pablo Cesar of Argentina as Chairman, Prasanna Vithanage of Sri Lanka, Abu Bakr Shawky of Austria, Priyadarshan of India and Rubaiyat Hossain of Bangladesh.
• Pablo Cesar is an Argentine filmmaker. He has contributed to the African cinema by making the critically acclaimed films, Equinox, the Garden of the Roses, Los dioses de agua and Aphrodite, the Garden of the Perfumes.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik inaugurates Ramalingeswara Park in Berhampur
• The Ramalingeswar Park was inaugurated in Berhampur of Ganjam district in Odisha on Monday by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through Video Conferencing. The park has added glitter to the Silk City.
• Beautification of the park is a 5T initiative by the Government of Odisha. This is said to be the New Year gift to the residents of the Silk City from the Chief Minister.
• Situated in the middle of Berhampur city the Ramalingeshwara Park has been beautified with a cost of Rs. 12 crore. Spread in 1500 sq. ft area the park has a huge statute of Lord Shiva in the centre of the pond. Besides, the water fountains have added beauty to the park.
Ramesh Pokhriyal launched Toycathon-2021 to promote manufacturing of toys
• The Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Union Minister WCD and Textiles Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani jointly launched Toycathon-2021 and the Toycathon Portal. Toycathon is being organized to develop India as the global Toy manufacturing hub. Toycathon will provide a platform to conceptualize innovative toys based on the Indian value system which will inculcate the positive behaviour and good value among the children.
The Toycathon will be based on nine themes:
1. Indian Culture, History, Knowledge of India and Ethos;
2. Learning, Education and Schooling;
3. Social and human values;
4. Occupations & specific fields;
5. Environment;
6. Divyang ;
7. Fitness and sport;
8. Out of the box, creative and logical thinking and
9. Rediscovering/redesigning traditional Indian toys.

GJC elects Ashish Pethe as New Chairman
• The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC), the national apex body of the gems and jewellery industry, has announced the appointment of Ashish Pethe as chairman and Saiyam Mehra as vice chairman for a period of two years. Pethe has been closely associated with GJC and was the Zonal Chairman West, which he will continue even after this new position.
• The entire e-Voting election process was conducted by an authorised independent person (Chief Election Authority), and the voting platform was created by a digital agency, both appointed by GJC.
• All India Gem And Jewellery Domestic Council is a national trade federation for the promotion and growth of trade in gems and jewellery across India. GJC represents over 6,00,000 players comprising manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, distributors, laboratories, gemologists, designers, and allied services to the domestic gems and jewellery industry.
Sanjay Kapoor elected All India Chess Federation president
• Sanjay Kapoor was elected president of the All India Chess Federation (AICF) while Bharat Singh Chauhan retained the secretary’s post. Kapoor, representing Uttar Pradesh Chess Association, defeated incumbent PR Venketrama Raja in a close contest. Kapoor received 33 votes as against 31 of Raja.
• Chauhan beat Ravindra Dongre 35-29. Apart from the president, secretary and treasurer, six vice-presidents and six joint secretaries were also elected.
OBITUARY
Former Maharashtra Minister Vilas Patil Undalkar passes away
• Former Maharashtra cabinet minister and seven-time Congress MLA Vilas Patil Undalkar has passed away. The veteran Congressman, Undalkar, who was popularly known as ‘kaka’, was elected seven times from Karad-South Assembly constituency for a record 35 consecutive years, from 1980 to 2014.
• Undalkar held the Cooperation and Law and Justice portfolios in the State Cabinets during the previous Congress-led state governments.

Trifed Signs MoU with Akhil Bhartiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram for Setting up of TRIFOOD Parks in Madhya Pradesh
• Continuing its mission to improve the livelihoods of the tribals(both forest dwellers and artisans) and work towards tribal empowerment, TRIFED under Ministry of Tribal Affairs has decided to explore a convergence and build a partnership with Akhil Bhartiya Vanvasi Kalyan Kendra, a pioneering organization that has been working for the welfare of tribals in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand since 1952.
• In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged between the two organisations on January 3, 2021 to work togetherfor setting up of TRIFOOD Parks in 5 districts in Madhya Pradesh.
Indian Army inks pact with Goa Shipyard to get 12 fast patrol boats
• Indian Army has inked a contract with Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) to procure 12 Fast Patrol Boats for surveillance and patrolling of large water bodies, including those in high altitude areas like Pangong Tso lake in Ladakh. Pangong Tso’s 134-km length is divided into eight ‘fingers’, military parlance for mountain spurs jutting into the water body that is contested by both sides. The lake is frozen with the onset of winters, and the Army plans to deploy around two dozen such boats by next summer.
• The indigenously-built boats will be delivered by May 2021 by Defence sector Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), GSL.
• The GSL will also carry out maintenance of these boats for four years.
• The need for these new high-speed boats to patrol the Pangong Tso lake was felt in the wake of the military tussle between the Indian and the Chinese troops, leading to the tense situation on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
BANKING AND ECONOMY
World Bank approves $105 million loan to improve Waterways in West Bengal
• The World Bank has signed a $105 million project with the Government of India and the Government of West Bengal to improve the inland water transport infrastructure in Kolkata, West Bengal. The $105 million loans from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), has a maturity of 17 years, including a grace period of 7 years.
• The West Bengal Inland Water Transport, Logistics and Spatial Development Project will improve passenger and freight movement across the Hooghly river as well as improve accessibility in the Kolkata Metropolitan Area, enhance the quality of life of its residents and contribute to the growth of the state’s logistics sector. The project will cover the five most populous districts of southern West Bengal, including its urban agglomeration — the Kolkata Metropolitan Area (KMA) where around 30 million people or one-third of West Bengal’s population live.
• In the first phase, the project will enhance the capacity and improve the safety of the Inland Water Transport system; including rehabilitating existing jetties, buying new ferries with enhanced design; and installing electronic gates in 40 locations.
• In the second phase, it will support long-term investments for passenger movements, including in terminals and jetties; improve the design of the inland water transport vessels; ensure night navigation on the most hazardous and trafficked routes and crossing points, and encourage the private sector to invest in Ro-Ro vessels that will allow easier movement of trucks across the Hooghly river.
• In addition, the project will facilitate disabled-friendly amenities, ensure women’s safety and encourage women’s employment in the IWT Department as well as with the ferry operators.

• भारतीय अंतर्राष्ट्रीय फिल्म महोत्सव (International Film Festival of India) के 51वें संस्करण के लिए दुनिया के प्रतिष्ठित फिल्म निर्माताओं की भागीदारी वाली अंतर्राष्ट्रीय ज्यूरी की घोषणा कर दी गई है। सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्रालय के अनुसार, ज्यूरी में चेयरमैन के रूप में अर्जेंटीना के पाब्लो सेसर (Pablo Cesar), श्रीलंका के प्रसन्ना वीथानेज (Prasanna Vithanage), श्रीलंका के अबू ऑस्ट्रियाबकर शाकी (Abu Bakr Shawky), भारत के प्रियदर्शन (Priyadarshan) और बांग्लादेश की रुबैयत हुसैन (Rubaiyat Hossain) शामिल होंगे।

ओडिशा के सीएम नवीन पटनायक ने बेरहामपुर में रामलिंगेश्वर पार्क का उद्घाटन किया
• ओडिशा के गंजम जिले के बेरहामपुर में सोमवार को ओडिशा के मुख्यमंत्री नवीन पटनायक द्वारा वीडियो कॉन्फ्रेंसिंग के माध्यम से रामलिंगेश्वर पार्क का उद्घाटन किया गया। पार्क ने सिल्क सिटी में चमक बढ़ा दी है।
• पार्क का सौंदर्यीकरण ओडिशा सरकार द्वारा एक 5T पहल है। यह मुख्यमंत्री की ओर से सिल्क सिटी के निवासियों को नए साल का तोहफा बताया गया है।
• बेरहमपुर शहर के मध्य में स्थित रामलिंगेश्वर पार्क को 12 करोड़ रु की लागत से सुशोभित किया गया है।1500 वर्ग फुट क्षेत्र में फैले इस पार्क में तालाब के केंद्र में भगवान शिव की एक विशाल प्रतिमा है। इसके अलावा, पानी के फव्वारे ने पार्क में सुंदरता बढ़ा दी है।
रमेश पोखरियाल ने खिलौनों के विनिर्माण को बढ़ावा देने के लिए लॉन्च किया टॉयकाथॉन -2021
• केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्री रमेश पोखरियाल 'निशंक' और केंद्रीय महिला एवं बाल विकास एवं कपड़ा मंत्री स्मृति ईरानी ने संयुक्त रूप से टॉयकाथॉन-2021 और टॉयकाथॉन पोर्टल का शुभारंभ किया। भारत को ग्लोबल टॉय मैन्युफैक्चरिंग हब के रूप में विकसित करने के लिए टॉयकाथॉन का आयोजन किया जा रहा है। टोयाकथन भारतीय मूल्य प्रणाली पर आधारित अभिनव खिलौनों की अवधारणा विकसित करने के लिए एक मंच प्रदान करेगा जो बच्चों के बीच सकारात्मक व्यवहार और अच्छे मूल्य को विकसित करेगा।

• संजय कपूर को अखिल भारतीय शतरंज संघ (All India Chess Federation) का नया अध्यक्ष चुना गया, जबकि भरत सिंह चौहान अपना सचिव पद बरकरार रखने में कायमाब रहे है। उत्तर प्रदेश शतरंज संघ का प्रतिनिधित्व करने वाले कपूर ने करीबी वोटिंग में पीआर वेंकेटराम राजा को हराया किया।
• कपूर को राजा के 31 वोट के मुकाबले 33 वोट मिले। वहीँ चौहान ने रवींद्र डोंगरे को 35-29 से हराया। अध्यक्ष, सचिव और कोषाध्यक्ष पद के अलावा, छह उपाध्यक्ष और छह संयुक्त सचिव भी चुने गए।

महाराष्ट्र के पूर्व मंत्री विलास पाटिल अंदलकर का निधन
• महाराष्ट्र के पूर्व कैबिनेट मंत्री और सात बार कांग्रेस से विधायक रहे विलास पाटिल अंदलकर का निधन। अनुभवी कांग्रेसी अंदलकर को 'काका' के नाम से जाना जाता था, वह कराड-दक्षिण विधानसभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से सात बार लगातार 35 साल तक, 1980 से 2014 के दौरान रिकॉर्ड विधायक रहे थे।
• अंदलकर, पिछली कांग्रेस नेतृत्व वाली राज्य सरकारों में कानून और न्याय विभागों में भी कार्य किया था
सम्मेलन एवं समझौते
मध्य प्रदेश में TRIFOOD पार्कों की स्थापना के लिए अखिल भारतीय वनवासी कल्याण आश्रम के साथ हस्ताक्षरित
• आदिवासियों (वनवासियों और कारीगरों दोनों) की आजीविका में सुधार लाने और आदिवासी सशक्तीकरण की दिशा में काम करने के लिए अपने मिशन को जारी रखते हुए, जनजातीय मामलों के मंत्रालय के तहत ट्राइफेड ने एक अग्रणी संगठन का पता लगाने और एक अग्रणी संगठन, अखिल भारतीय वनवासी कल्याण केंद्र के साथ साझेदारी बनाने का फैसला किया है। यह 1952 से मध्य प्रदेश, छत्तीसगढ़ और झारखंड में आदिवासियों के कल्याण के लिए काम कर रहा है।
• इस संबंध में, मध्य प्रदेश में 5 जिलों में TRIFOOD पार्क की स्थापना के लिए एक साथ काम करने के लिए 3 जनवरी, 2021 को दो संगठनों के बीच एक समझौता ज्ञापन (MoU) का आदान-प्रदान किया गया।
भारतीय सेना ने गोवा शिपयार्ड के साथ 12 फास्ट गश्ती नौकाओं के लिए किया समझौता
• भारतीय सेना ने विशाल जल क्षेत्रों की निगरानी और गश्त के लिए 12 फास्ट पैट्रोल नावों की खरीद के लिए गोवा शिपयार्ड लिमिटेड (GSL) के साथ एक अनुबंध किया है, जिसमें लद्दाख की पैंगोंग त्सो झील जैसे उच्च ऊंचाई वाले क्षेत्र शामिल हैं। पेंगोंग झील या पेंगोंग त्सो लद्दाख में भारत-चीन सीमा क्षेत्र में स्थित है। यह 4350 मीटर की ऊंचाई पर स्थित 134 किलोमीटर लंबी है और लद्दाख से तिब्बत तक फैली हुई है। इस झील का 45 किलोमीटर क्षेत्र भारत में स्थित है जबकि 90 किलोमीटर क्षेत्र चीन में पड़ता है। वास्तविक नियंत्रण रेखा इस झील के मध्य से गुजरती है। इस वक्त कड़ाके की सर्दियों की वजह से पैंगोंग झील अभी जमी हुई है और यहां पर 3-4 महीने ऐसी ही स्थिति रहेगी, सेना ने योजना तैयार कि है गर्मियों में जब झील पिघलेगी तो यहां लगभग दो दर्जन ऐसी नौकाओं को गश्ती के लिए तैनात कर दिया जाएगा।
• रक्षा क्षेत्र के सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र की उपक्रम (पीएसयू), GSL द्वारा मई 2021 तक स्वदेश निर्मित नौकाओं को सेना को सौंप दिया जाएगा।
• GSL चार साल तक इन नावों का रखरखाव भी करेगा।
• पैंगोंग त्सो झील की गश्त करने के लिए इन नई उच्च गति वाली नावों की आवश्यकता हाल ही में हुए भारतीय और चीनी सैनिकों के बीच सैन्य झगड़े के मद्देनजर महसूस किया गया, जिससे वास्तविक नियंत्रण रेखा (Line of Actual Control) पर तनावपूर्ण स्थिति पैदा हो गई थी।
बैंकिंग और आर्थिक
विश्व बैंक ने पश्चिम बंगाल में जल परिवहन में सुधार के लिए 105 मिलियन डॉलर के ऋण को दी मंजूरी
• विश्व बैंक ने पश्चिम बंगाल के कोलकाता में अंतर्देशीय जल परिवहन अवसंरचना में सुधार करने के लिए भारत सरकार और पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार के साथ 105 मिलियन डॉलर (करीब 10.5 करोड़ डॉलर) की परियोजना पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं। इंटरनेशन बैंक फॉर रिकंस्ट्रक्शन एंड डेवलपमेंट (IBRD) से 105 मिलियन डॉलर के ऋण की परिपक्वता अवधि 7 साल की छूट अवधि के साथ 17 साल है।
• पश्चिम बंगाल अंतर्देशीय जल परिवहन, रसद और स्थानिक विकास परियोजना हुगली नदी के पार यात्री और माल ढुलाई की सुविधा में सुधार के साथ-साथ कोलकाता महानगर क्षेत्र में पहुंच में सुधार करेगी, जिससे इसके नागरिकों के जीवन की गुणवत्ता में सुधार होगा और राज्य के लॉजिस्टिक क्षेत्र के विकास के प्रति योगदान होगा। इस परियोजना में कोलकाता महानगर क्षेत्र (Kolkata Metropolitan Area) सहित दक्षिणी पश्चिम बंगाल के पांच सबसे ज्यादा आबादी वाले जिलों को शामिल किया जाएगा, जहां लगभग 3 करोड़ अथवा पश्चिम बंगाल की एक तिहाई आबादी रहती है।
• पहले चरण में, इस परियोजना से अंतर्देशीय जल परिवहन प्रणाली की क्षमता बढ़ेगी और सुरक्षा में सुधार होगा, मौजूदा घाटों के पुनर्वास सहित उन्नत डिजाइन की नई फेरी खरीदी जाएंगी; और 40 स्थानों पर इलेक्ट्रॉनिक गेट लगाए जाएंगे।
• दूसरे चरण में, टर्मिनलों और घाटों सहित यात्री आवाजाही के लिए दीर्घकालिक निवेश को समर्थन दिया जाएगा; सबसे ज्यादा खतरनाक और व्यस्त रूटों व पारगमन बिंदुओं पर रात्रि परिवहन सुनिश्चित होगा; और रो-रो जहाजों में निजी क्षेत्र के निवेश को प्रोत्साहन मिलेगा जिससे हुगली नदी पर ट्रकों की आवाजाही आसान हो जाएगी।
• इसके अलावा, यह परियोजना दिव्यांगजनों के अनुकूल सुविधाओं की सुविधा प्रदान करेगी, महिलाओं की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करेगी और IWT विभाग के साथ-साथ नौका ऑपरेटरों के साथ महिलाओं के रोजगार को प्रोत्साहित करेगी।
आईडीबीआई बैंक ने बचत खाता खोलने के लिए वीडियो KYC सुविधा का किया शुभारंभ
• आईडीबीआई बैंक ने बचत बैंक खातों के लिए वीडियो KYC खाता खोलने (VAO) की सुविधा शुरू करने की घोषणा की है। इस सुविधा के माध्यम से, कोई भी ग्राहक अपने घर या कार्यालय में बैठे वीडियो KYC के जरिए बचत खाता खोल सकता है, क्योंकि इसके लिए अब उन्हें शाखा में जाकर कोई भी फॉर्म भरने की आवयश्कता नहीं होगी।
• वीडियो KYC घर पर रहकर आसानी से बचत खाता खोलने का एक त्वरित और आसान तरीका है। साथ ही यह सुनिश्चित करता है कि बचत खाता खोलने की ऑनलाइन प्रक्रिया पूरी तरह से सुरक्षित, सरल और तेजी से समाप्त हो जाए और केवाईसी के लिए शाखा जाने की आवश्यकता न पड़े।
