GSLV Successfully Launches South Asia Satellite
India's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F09) successfully launched the 2230 kg South |Asia Satellite (GSAT-9) into its planned Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) today (May 05, 2017).
● Today’s launch of GSLV was its eleventh and took place from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR (SDSC SHAR), Sriharikota, the spaceport of India.
● This is the fourth consecutive success achieved by GSLV carrying indigenously developed Cryogenic Upper Stage.
● In its oval shaped GTO, the South Asia Satellite is now orbiting the Earth with a perigee (nearest point to Earth) of 169 km and an apogee (farthest point to Earth) of 36,105 km with an orbital inclination of 20.65 deg with respect to the equator.
● Few seconds before the launch countdown reached zero, the four liquid propellant strap-on motors of GSLV-F09, each carrying 42 tons of liquid propellants, were ignited.
● At count zero and after confirming the normal performance of all the four strap-on motors, the 139 ton solid propellant first stage core motor was ignited and GSLV lifted off at 16:57 IST.
● The major phases of the flight occurred as scheduled. About seventeen minutes after lift-off, South Asia Satellite was successfully placed in GTO.
Facility of online registration of Child Care Institutions launched by Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi
The facility of online registration of Child Care Institutions across the country was launched by the Minister of Women & Child Development, Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi in New Delhi today.
● The Minister of State for Women & Child Development, Smt Krishna Raj, Secretary WCD, Ms. Leena Nair and senior officers of the Ministry, CARA and Childline among others were present on the occasion.
● Speaking on the occasion, Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi said that online registration of CCIs is a very important part of good governance.
● It will now make it easy for CCIs to register themselves, she added.
● The WCD Minister, Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi said that online registration will provide a centralized system where all the information will be readily available about the CCIs in the country.
● It will be possible to know on a real time basis as to how many children are available in each CCI, how many are available for adoption, which children need help and what type of assistance needs to be provided to them, she added.
MoUs Worth Rs 2 Lakh Crores Signed in the India Integrated Transport & Logistics Summit
Thirty-four MoUs amounting to about Rs 2 lakh crores were signed in the three day India Integrated Transport and Logistics Summit that was concluded in New Delhi today.
● These MoUs were in the areas of port connectivity, Integrated Check Posts (ICP) in the states of Bihar, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Manipur, access to land port in Tripura, Assam and Mizoram, development of Logistics Parks in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Mizoram, development and furthering of multi modal logistics parks in Mumbai and Bengaluru and Haryana, exploring investment opportunities in logistics sector, dredging of inland waterways, implementation of 79 port connectivity projects under Sagarmala, development of port roads to Chennai and Vishakhapatnam ports, and connectivity to airport in Navi Mumbai, among others.
● Some of these MoUs are between Government agencies while others are between Government to Business and Business to Business.
● The Summit was attended by around 3000 delegates from India and abroad, which included central and state government organizations , international organizations like World Bank and ADB, delegates, global transport and supply chain experts and representatives of private companies.
● The sessions focused on six major themes that included Multi Modal Logistics Parks, New developments in Urban Transportation, Freight Corridors for Economic Development, Supply Chain Transformation- Storage Innovations, GST and Role of Digitization for Decongestion and Standards and Skills for Logistics.
Fifty speakers from across the globe shared their views, expertise and experience about developing the logistics and integrated multi modal transport sector in India.
Cabinet approves Vijayawada Airport as International Airport
The Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 3 May 2017 approved the declaration of Vijayawada Airport as International Airport, as per the provisions of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
● The move will help enhance connectivity to the State capital.
● It will also expand the choice of services for the air travellers and that too at competitive costs.
● This will encourage more international passengers to visit the city thereby, boosting domestic and international tourism and the socio-economic development of Andhra Pradesh.
● An airport is declared as an International airport depending upon its traffic potential and demand from airline operators for the operation of international flights.

Union Cabinet approves issuing ordinance to resolve NPAs of banks
To eliminate the problem of bad loans, the Union Cabinet on 3 May 2017 approved an ordinance to amend the Banking Regulation Act for dealing with the non-performing assets (NPAs) in the banking system.
● Details of the ordinance will be revealed after President Pranab Mukherjee gives his assent to an ordinance to amend the Banking Regulation Act to resolve the Non-Performing Assets crisis.
● The promulgation of the ordinance was given a green signal during the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
● Parliamentary Standing committee on Finance tabled report on NPAs of Public Sector Banks
● The set of measures includes the promulgation of an Ordinance to amend the Banking Regulation Act to give more powers to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and its committees to act on behalf of banks while deciding on NPAs.

Archaeologists uncover 4000-year-old model garden outside Egypt tomb
A group of archaeologists discovered the remains of a nearly 4000 year old model garden outside a tomb in the ancient Egyptian capital of Thebes, today known as Luxor.
● The discovery was announced by Egypt’s Antiquities Ministry said on 3 May 2017.
● The discovery was made by a Spanish team in the Draa Abul Nagaa necropolis across the Nile from the modern-day city of Luxor.
● The Draa Abul Naga necropolis lies near the Valley of the Kings, where many of the pharaohs, including Tutankhamun, were buried.
● The garden was discovered during excavations in an open courtyard outside a Middle Kingdom tomb.
● It is a small rectangular garden that has an area of three by two meters.
● It is divided into equal square plots, each about 30 centimetres across.

India placed at 100th spot in FIFA Rankings after 21 years
FIFA World Rankings The Indian football team made it into the top 100 of the FIFA World Rankings for the first time in 21 years.
● The team is placed at 100th alongside Nicaragua, Lithuania and Estonia. The FIFA rankings were released on 4 May 2017.
● India's rise in the rankings has been due to triumphs over Cambodia and Myanmar.
● It was in February 1996 that India was placed on the 94th spot, which is the country's best ever FIFA ranking.
● The FIFA World Ranking is a ranking system for men's national teams in association football.
● The teams of the member nations of FIFA are ranked based on their game results with the most successful teams being ranked highest.
● The rankings were introduced in December 1992.

जीएसएलवी ने दक्षिणी एशियाई उपग्रह का सफल प्रक्षेपण किया
भारत के भूसमकालिक उपग्रह प्रक्षेपण यान (जीएसएलवी-एफ09) ने 2230 किलोग्राम भार वाले दक्षिण एशियाई उपग्रह (जीसेट-9) का आज (05 मई, 2017) नियोजित भू-समकालिक हस्तांतरण कक्षा (जीटीओ) में सफल प्रक्षेपण किया।
● यह जीएसएलवी का 11वां प्रक्षेपण था। यह प्रक्षेपण सतीश धवन अंतरिक्ष केन्द्र एसएचएआर (एसडीएससी एसएचएआर) के दूसरे लॉच पैड से किया गया।
● यह स्वदेशी रूप से विकसित किए गए क्रायोजेनिक अपर स्टेज को वह्न करने की दिशा में जीएसएलवी द्वारा प्राप्त की गयी लगातार चौथी सफलता है।
● इस अंडाकार जीटीओ, दक्षिण एशियाई उपग्रह ने अब पृथ्वी के चारों ओर चक्कर लगाना शुरू कर दिया है।
● सफल प्रक्षेपण के बाद माननीय प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने इसरो को बधाई देते हुए कहा कि आज का दिन दक्षिण एशिया के लिए ऐतिहासिक और बेमिसाल दिन है।
● प्रधानमंत्री ने याद दिलाया कि दो साल पहले भारत ने दक्षिण एशिया की जनता की प्रगति और समृद्धि के लिए उन्नत अंतरिक्ष प्रौद्योगिकी की पहुंच उन्हें सुलभ कराने का वादा किया था।
● उन्होंने कहा कि आशा है कि आज का प्रक्षेपण इस वादे को पूरा करने की दिशा में अहम कदम है।
मेनका संजय गांधी ने बाल सुविधा संस्थानों के लिए ऑनलाइन पंजीकरण सुविधा का शुभारंभ किया
महिला एवं बाल विकास मंत्री श्रीमती मेनका संजय गांधी ने आज यहां बाल सुविधा संस्थानों के लिए ऑनलाइन पंजीकरण सुविधा का शुभारंभ किया। इस अवसर पर महिला एवं बाल विकास राज्य मंत्री श्रीमती कृष्णा राज, महिला एवं बाल विकास सचिव सुश्री लीना नायर और मंत्रालय, सीएआरए तथा चाइल्ड लाइन के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी एवं प्रतिनिधि उपस्थित थे।
● श्रीमती मेनका संजय गांधी ने कहा कि बाल सुविधा संस्थान (सीसीआई) के लिए ऑनलाइन पंजीकरण सुशासन का एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण अंग है। उन्होंने कहा कि अब सीसीआई के लिए अपने पंजीकरण में सुविधा हो जाएगी।
● श्रीमती गांधी ने कहा कि ऑनलाइन पंजीकरण से एक केंद्रीय प्रणाली उपलब्ध होगी जहां देश में सीसीआई के बारे में सूचना प्राप्त हो सकेगी। इससे पता चलेगा कि प्रत्येक सीसीआई में कितने बच्चे हैं और कितने गोद लेने के लिए उपलब्ध हैं।
● महिला एवं बाल विकास राज्य मंत्री श्रीमती कृष्णा राज ने कहा कि नई ऑनलाइन पंजीकरण प्रक्रिया से प्रणाली में पारदर्शिता आएगी तथा बच्चों की सुरक्षा और देखभाल संभव होगी।
● महिला एवं बाल विकास सचिव सुश्री लीना नायर ने कहा कि नई सुविधा को इसलिए तैयार किया गया है ताकि सभी बाल सुविधा संस्थानों के लिए पंजीकरण संबंधी एकीकृत प्रणाली बनाई जा सके।
● वर्तमान में सीसीआई के लिए दस्ती पंजीकरण प्रणाली मौजूद है, जिसका सभी राज्य और केंद्रशासित प्रदेश पालन करते हैं।
● इसके कारण सीसीआई की संख्या के बारे में कोई राष्ट्रीय डाटा बेस मौजूद नहीं है, इसके अलावा पारदर्शिता का भी अभाव है तथा सीसीआई की गतिविधियों की निगरानी करना कठिन है। प्रस्तावित ऑनलाइन पंजीकरण प्रणाली से इस काम में आसानी हो जाएगी।
भारतीय एकीकृत परिवहन एवं लॉजिस्टिक्स शिखर सम्मेलन में 2 लाख करोड़ रुपये के एमओयू पर हस्ताक्षर किये
भारतीय एकीकृत परिवहन एवं लॉजिस्टिक्स शिखर सम्मेलन में लगभग 2 लाख करोड़ रुपये के 34 समझौता ज्ञापनों (एमओयू) पर हस्ताक्षर किये गये। नई दिल्ली में आज समाप्त इस तीन दिवसीय सम्मेलन में जिन एमओयू पर हस्ताक्षर किये गये वे अनेक क्षेत्रों से जुड़े हुए हैं।
● बिहार, उत्तराखंड, उत्तर प्रदेश, पश्चिम बंगाल एवं मणिपुर में बंदरगाह कनेक्टिविटी व एकीकृत चेक पोस्ट (आईसीपी), त्रिपुरा, असम एवं मिजोरम में भूमि बंदरगाह तक पहुंच, तेलंगाना, आंध्र प्रदेश, कर्नाटक, मध्य प्रदेश, असम, गुजरात एवं मिजोरम में लॉजिस्टिक्स पार्कों के विकास, मुम्बई, बेंगलुरू व हरियाणा में मल्टी मोडल लॉजिस्टिक्स पार्कों के विकास एवं विस्तारीकरण, लॉजिस्टिक्स क्षेत्र में निवेश अवसरों की तलाश करने, अंतर्देशीय जलमार्गों के तलकर्षण, सागरमाला के अंतर्गत 79 बंदरगाह कनेक्टिविटी परियोजनाओं के क्रियान्वयन, चेन्नई एवं विशाखापत्तनम पोर्ट तक जाने वाली बंदरगाह सड़कों के विकास और नवी मुम्बई में हवाई अड्डे तक कनेक्टिविटी इत्यादि के लिए इन एमओयू पर हस्ताक्षर किये गये।
● इनमें से कुछ एमओयू सरकारी एजेंसियों के बीच हस्ताक्षरित किये गये हैं, जबकि कई एमओयू सरकार एवं कंपनियों के बीच तथा अन्य एमओयू विभिन्न कंपनियों के बीच हुए हैं।
● इस शिखर सम्मेलन में देश-विदेश के लगभग 3000 प्रतिनिधियों ने भाग लिया जिनमें केन्द्र एवं राज्यों के सरकारी संगठनों और विश्व बैंक एवं एडीबी जैसे अंतर्राष्ट्रीय संगठनों के प्रतिनिधि, वैश्विक परिवहन तथा सप्लाई चेन विशेषज्ञ और निजी कंपनियों के प्रतिनिधि भी शामिल थे।
● इस सम्मेलन के समापन सत्र में सड़क परिवहन एवं राजमार्ग और शिपिंग मंत्री श्री नितिन गडकरी ने कहा कि यदि हम आर्थिक विकास दर को दहाई अंकों में ले जाने के साथ-साथ समाज के सबसे कमजोर तबकों का कल्याण भी सुनिश्चित करना चाहते हैं तो देश में लॉजिस्टिक्स लागत को घटाकर उसे वैश्विक दरों के बराबर करना अत्यंत जरूरी है।
● मंत्रालय ने इस अवसर पर सोलर टोल प्लाजा डिजाइन करने के लिए आयोजित प्रतियोगिता के विजेताओं को पुरस्कार भी प्रदान किये।
केन्द्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने विजयवाड़ा को अंतरराष्ट्रीय एयरपोर्ट का दर्जा प्रदान किया
प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की अध्यक्षता में 03 मई 2017 को हुई केन्द्रीय मंत्रिमंडल की बैठक में विजयवाड़ा एयरपोर्ट को अंतरराष्ट्रीय एयरपोर्ट का दर्जा प्रदान किया. इसे आंध्र प्रदेश पुनर्गठन अधिनियम, 2014 के तहत यह दर्जा प्रदान किया गया.
● इस निर्णय से राज्य का दूसरे राज्यों एवं दूसरे देशों के साथ संपर्क बढ़ जायेगा. इससे हवाई यात्रियों के लिए सेवाओं की पसंद का विस्तार भी होगा तथा प्रतिस्पर्धी लागतों पर भी असर होगा. अंतरराष्ट्रीय यात्री राज्य का दौरा कर सकेंगे तथा इससे घरेलू पर्यटन को बढ़ावा मिलेगा.
● एयरपोर्ट की ट्रैफिक तथा मांग के अनुसार ही किसी एयरपोर्ट को अंतरराष्ट्रीय एयरपोर्ट घोषित किया जाता है।
● इस निर्णय को प्रभावित करने वाले कारकों में ग्राउंड लाइट सुविधा, कस्टम सेवा, इमिग्रेशन, रनवे की पर्याप्त लम्बाई तथा बड़े एयरक्राफ्ट को उतारने की सुविधा आदि शामिल हैं.
● विजयवाड़ा एयरपोर्ट को अंतरराष्ट्रीय दर्जा आंध्र प्रदेश पुनर्गठन अधिनियम, 2014 के तहत दिया गया है.
● इस प्रस्ताव को आंध्र प्रदेश सरकार द्वारा यात्रियों को बढ़ती मांग को ध्यान में रखते हुए मंजूर किया गया.
राष्ट्रपति प्रणब मुखर्जी ने बैंकों के एनपीए को लेकर अध्यादेश की मंज़ूरी दी
राष्ट्रपति प्रणब मुखर्जी ने डूबे कर्ज की समस्या से निपटने के लिए भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक को अधिक अधिकार देने से संबंधित बैंकिंग अध्यादेश को मंजूरी दे दी है.
● इसके साथ ही बैंकिंग रेगुलेशन कानून में बदलाव को भी मंजूरी मिल गई है. माना जा रहा है कि सरकार नए गैर निष्पादित आस्तिया (एनपीए) अध्यादेश का ब्योरा जारी करेगी.
● बैंकिंग रेगुलेशन एक्ट के सेक्शन 35ए में दो नए प्रावधान जोड़े गए हैं.
● एक प्रावधान के तहत आर.बी.आई. को ये अधिकार दिया गया है कि वो बैंकों के डिफॉल्टर के खिलाफ इन्सॉल्वेन्सी एंड बैंकरप्सी कोड के तहत कार्रवाई करे.
● दूसरे प्रावधान के तहत आर.बी.आई. को अधिकार दिया गया है कि वो तय समय सीमा में एनपीए से निपटने के लिए बैंकों को जरूरी निर्देश जारी कर सके।
● हालांकि, आरबीआइ ने हाल के वर्षों में फंसे हुए ऋणों से निपटने के लिए कॉरपोरेट ऋण पुनर्गठन व्यवस्था (सीडीआर), ज्वाइंट लेंडर्स फोरम के गठन, फंसे ऋणों की वास्तविक तसवीर पेश करने के लिए बैंकों पर दबाव बनाने और डिफॉल्टरों पर नियंत्रण के लिए स्ट्रेटजिक डेट रीस्ट्रक्चरिंग (एसडीआर) स्कीम जैसे ठोस कदम उठाये हैं, लेकिन इनके अपेक्षा के अनुरूप परिणाम नहीं आ सके हैं.
पुरातत्वविदों ने मिस्र में 4000 वर्ष पुराना मॉडल गार्डन खोजा
पुरातत्वविदों के एक समूह ने मिस्र स्थित थीब्स में 4000 वर्ष पुराना एक मॉडल गार्डन खोज निकाला है. इस खोज के बारे में मिस्र द्वारा 3 मई 2017 को घोषणा की गयी.
● यह खोज एक स्पेनिश खोजकर्ता दल द्वारा नील की घाटी के नजदीक लक्ज़र सिटी में मौजूद द्रा अबुल नागा स्थान पर की गयी.
● द्रा अबुल नागा वैली ऑफ़ किंग्स के नजदीक मौजूद है यहां विभिन्न राजाओं को दफनाया गया था.
● इस गार्डन की खोज एक मध्यकालीन शासन की गुंबद के बरामदे की खुदाई के दौरान हुई.
● यह 3x2 मीटर आकार का एक आयताकार गार्डन है.
● यह 30 सेंटीमीटर के छोटे-छोटे चौकोर प्लॉट्स में बंटा हुआ है.
● इससे पता चलता है कि यह पौधों अथवा फूलों की खेती के लिए विकसित किया गया एक मॉडल था.
● माना जा रहा है कि इस मॉडल के आधार पर ही किसान खेती किया करते थे.
● गार्डन के बीचों-बीच दो उठे हुए स्थान भी पाए गये जो अनुमानतः पेड़ लगाने के लिए रखे गये हों.
फीफा रैंकिंग में भारत 100वें स्थान पर
फीफा द्वारा 04 मई 2017 को जारी विश्व रैंकिंग में भारत को 100वां स्थान प्राप्त हुआ है.
● भारतीय टीम को पिछले 21 वर्षों में पहली बार यह स्थान प्राप्त हुआ है.
● फीफा की रैकिंग में कोच स्टीफन कोंस्टैंटाइन वाली टीम ने यह स्थान हासिल किया.
● भारत इस स्थान पर निकारागुआ, लिथुआनिया और इस्टोनिया के साथ सुंयक्त रूप से काबिज है.
● इससे पहले भारत वर्ष 1996 में फीफा रैंकिंग में शीर्ष 100 में पहुंचा था. फरवरी 1996 में भारत को 94वां स्थान प्राप्त हुआ था.
● यह भारत की सर्वश्रेष्ठ फीफा रैंकिंग है. भारत को हाल ही में कंबोडिया, म्यांमार के खिलाफ घर से बाहर मिली जीत के बाद यह स्थान हासिल हुआ.
● यह पुरुषों की फुटबॉल स्पर्धा के लिए दिए जाने वाली रैंकिंग है.
● फीफा के प्रतिभागी देशों को उनके परिणाम के आधार पर चयनित किया जाता है.
● रैंकिंग की प्रक्रिया दिसंबर 1992 में आरंभ हुई थी.
● वर्तमान रैंकिंग प्रक्रिया में टीम द्वारा पिछले चार वर्षों में किये गये प्रदर्शन को आधार बनाया जाता है.
