NATIONAL AFFAIRS

Manoj Pande appointed as Member Staff, Railway Board

-Shri Manoj Pande, Indian Railways Personnel Service (IRPS) has taken over as Member Staff, Railway Board and ex-officio Secretary on 2 November 2019.

-Manoj Pande is a Post Graduate in Economics from Delhi School of Economics, MBA, L.L.B. and holds a Diploma in Russian language from JNU. He has written several articles on Railway Heritage and History.  He was the winner of Rs.50 lakhs in the KBC 2007.

Shri Manoj Pande has held various positions with Central Railway and in Diesel Locomotive Works, Western Railway, West Central Railway, South Central Railway, and South Eastern Railway.  He served as the Principal Chief Personnel Officer for over 12 years in West Central Railway, South Central Railway and South Eastern Railway. In January 2017, he served as the Executive Director/Advisor (Training & MPP) in Railway Board.

IFFCO introduced Indias first Nanotechnology based fertilizers for on field trials

-The Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) introduced its Nano-technology based product range for on-field trials.

- It was launched at a function held in Kalol, Gujarat. The Nano-tech product includes Nano Nitrogen, Nano Zinc, Nano Copper.

The nano products were researched and developed at the IFFCO Nano Biotechnology Research Centre (NBRC) at Kalol Unit. It has been identified that these nanostructured formulations effectively deliver nutrients to the plants.

-The products aim to improve soil health, reduce emission greenhouse gases. It will also ensure up to a 15-30% increase in crop production and reduce the requirement of conventional chemical fertilizer by 50%. The move is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for doubling the farmer’s income by 2022.

SCO   joint exercise on urban earthquake is to be held from 4 to 7 November

The Union home minister Amit Shah is to inaugurate the four-day Shanghai Cooperation  Organisation (SCO) joint exercise on urban earthquake search and rescue on 4 November. The exercise is hosted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The exercise will be held from 4 November to 7 November 2019.

MV Maheshwari container cargo to sail on National Waterway 2, Brahmaputra

A container cargo consignment vessel MV Maheshwari is to sail on inland waterways from Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) to the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) terminal at Pandu in Guwahati on 4 November 2019. The move is to implement the Centre's focus on improving connectivity to the North Eastern Region (NER). It aims to enhance connectivity through the inland waterways across India. The container cargo vessel carrying a consignment of 53 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs).

Shripad Yesso Naik inaugurated National Research Institute of Unani Medicine for Skin Disorders

Ministry of AYUSH launched the National Research Institute of Unani Medicine for Skin Disorders (NRIUMSD), which was upgraded from the Central Research Institute of Unani Medicine (CRIUM) at Erragadda, Hyderabad. CRUIUM was inaugurated by the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH Shri Shripad Yesso Naik The CRIUM proved its success in the treatment of vitiligo and other chronic and stubborn diseases.

The Election Commission of India

The Election Commission of India (ECI) appointed Shri B Murali Kumar as Special Expenditure Observer for the Legislative Assembly election of Jharkhand.

 Vigyanika to showcase Science Book Fair at IISF

Vigyanika is to showcase science communication efforts and concepts through drama, poetry, panel discussions, and paper presentations at the 5th India International Science Festival (IISF).   Vigyanika: Vigyanika is an International Science Literature Festival that has been scheduled to be held from 5-7 November 2019.

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

- Indian to invite Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro

 The Central government is to invite Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro as the chief guest to the Republic Day celebrations 2020.  India aims to expand its outreach to South America. India and Brazil are aiming to finalize Bolsonaro's maiden trip to India as President. If finalized, Bolsonaro would be the third Brazilian President to be invited for Republic Day celebrations.

- Commonwealth Law Ministers’ Conference 2019

The biennial Commonwealth Law Ministers’ Conference is being held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 4-7 November 2019. India will be represented at the conference by Union Minister for Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad.

PM Modi meets Indonesian President and Thailand PM

• The leaders welcomed the 20% increase in the bilateral trade between the countries

• They agreed to explore opportunities for cooperation in defence industries sector

• PM Modi discussed ways to enhance connectivity between the two countries in the areas of digital connectivity and physical connectivity.

• India and Thailand are close maritime neighbors. India’s Act East Policy is complimented by the Thailand’s Look West Policy as that of Indonesia.

The meeting also gains its importance as India and Indonesia are celebrating their 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations. The countries are close maritime neighbors having historical and cultural linkages. Also India’s ‘Act East Policy’ is complimented by Indonesia’s ‘Look West’ policy.

Madhuri Vijay won the 2019 JCB Prize for Literature for her novel The Far Field. Sir Mark Tully announced the winner in a live broadcast on social media.

Ashleigh Barty claimed the 2019 WTA Finals in China

Australian tennis player and world number one Ashleigh Barty claimed the 2019 WTA Finals in China. She defeated Elina Svitolina of Ukraine and smashed the title. She has claimed the record-breaking prize money of $4.42 million. The prize money is considered as the biggest ever amount in men's or women's tennis. She secured 6-4, 6-3, to claim the prestigious 2019 WTA Finals title

Novak Djokovic won the Paris Masters 2019 title

Novak Djokovic won the Paris Masters 2019 title. He won the title for the fifth time. He sealed his 34th Master's title and fifth overall ATP victory of the year 2019. He defeated Canada's Denis Shapovalov. He secured 6-3 6-4 to win the title.

McDonald's ousts CEO over consensual relationship with employee

McDonald’s chief executive officer has been pushed out of the company after violating company policy by engaging in a consensual relationship with an employee.

Pakistan embassy in Kabul closes visa section amid tensions

Closure of the visa section will come as a huge blow for many Afghans, hundreds of whom apply daily for permits to travel to Pakistan where they seek medical treatment, goods and university educations.

Pakistan’s embassy in Kabul said Sunday it was indefinitely closing its consular office in the Afghan capital due to security reasons, amid mounting tensions between the neighbouring countries.

-In 1493, 4th November Christopher Columbus   discovered Guadeloupe during his second expedition.

Guadeloupe, a French overseas region, is an island group in the southern Caribbean Sea. Resembling a butterfly, its 2 largest islands are separated by the Salée River. Hilly Grande-Terre Island has long beaches and sugarcane fields.
