IBM, Indian Oil Corporation collaborate for digital services
• Tech giant IBM stated it has collaborated with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) to transform the latter’s customer experience using digital tools. Around 12,400 IOCL distributors covering about 130 million consumers can now use the IndianOil One mobile app and portal, developed by IBM Services. The IndianOil One mobile app and portal are part of Indian Oil’s Project ePIC, an integrated platform for Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Distribution Management System (DMS).
• This platform ensures real-time updates to inventory, orders, and invoices, thereby reducing the time to order fulfilment. Indian Oil can respond more quickly to customer service requests, including grievances using the platform. The platform also presents a unified customer experience across various access devices such as mobile phones, tablets, and desktops.
NATIONAL
India-Pak border to light up with 8000MW renewable park
• India’s border areas with Pakistan in Rajasthan would soon be illuminated with renewable energy. The state government will soon ink an MoU with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to establish Ultra Mega Renewal Energy Power Park.
• The park to be set up near borders areas will be of 8,000 megawatts (MW) capacity, which will comprise 4,310 MW of wind energy; 3,760 MW of solar energy and 120 MW of power from biomass. Currently, Rajasthan’s solar generation capacity is 4,883 MW.
• The Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL) would be signing a separate MoU with the NTPC and the SECI to materialise the GoI Mega Power Park project. Rajasthan has over 1000 kilometre-long international border which is currently supplied power through traditional methods. The Rajasthan government had also approved a proposal for setting up solar power parks to generate 10,000 MW green energy with an investment of Rs 50,000 crore. The state has given nod to the proposal of Adani Green Energy Limited to set up solar power parks at five locations and a solar panel manufacturing unit which will generate around 7,500 direct and indirect jobs.
India’s first ‘tyre park’ to come up in West Bengal
• In West Bengal, Kolkata will soon feature India’s first “Tyre Park”, where artworks made from scrap and defective parts will be on display. The West Bengal Transport Corporation will launch this Tyre Park.
• The Tyre Park, which will come up at the Esplanade area, would have a small cafe where people can sit, relax and enjoy the craftsmanship made from tyres. No scrap material can be labelled as waste, it can be reused and converted into an art form. Scrap tyres, lying as waste in various bus depots, have been reworked and converted to colourful shapes by the in-house team of WBTC.
Indian Railways launches ‘Meri Saheli’ initiative for security of women
• The Indian Railways has introduced a new initiative called “Meri Saheli” to provide safety and security to women passengers during their train journeys. The Meri Saheli initiative has been launched by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Indian Railways.
PM Modi inaugurates ‘Arogya Van’ in Gujarat’s Narmada district
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Arogya Van’ in the Narmada district of Gujarat. PM Modi was accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Governor Acharya Devvrat. PM also inaugurated Arogya Kutir, Ekta Mall, and Children Nutrition Park.

Indian boxers Amit Panghal wins gold at the Alexis Vastine International
• Indian boxers Amit Panghal, Sanjeet and Ashish Kumar have won gold medals at the recently concluded Alexis Valentine International Boxing Tournament held in Nantes, France. The tournament was the first international event that Indian boxers were a part of since the c -19.
• Amit Panghal, the silver medalist at the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships in the 52 kg-weight categories, overcame the challenge from American boxer Rene Abraham.
• Sanjeet was up against France’s Soheb Bouafia in the 91 kg final bout and produced a clinical performance to win the top honours.
• In the 75 kg weight category, Indian boxer Ashish Kumar won the gold medal after his opponent from the USA, Joseph Gerome Hiks, gave him a walkover due to injury.

India Successfully test fires BrahMos Missile from Sukhoi 30 MKI
• The Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully test-fired an air-launched version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from a Sukhoi fighter aircraft in the Bay of Bengal. The aircraft took off from an airbase in Punjab & reached the Bay of Bengal after mid-air refuelling.

PVG Menon appoints as CEO of Electronics Sector Skill Council of India
• The Electronics Sector Skill Council of India (ESSCI) announced the appointment of PVG Menon as its chief executive officer. Menon will be responsible for overseeing the operations of ESSCI and work closely with its governing Council on strategic issues related to the growth of the electronic systems design and manufacturing (ESDM) industry in India.
• ESSCI works with industry, the National Skill Development Corporation, and the Ministry of Electronics and IT to provide both skilling and re-skilling services to the industry.
Rajiv Jalota becomes new chairman of Mumbai Port Trust
• Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer, Rajiv Jalota has been appointed as the chairman of Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT). The appointment committee of the Union cabinet issued the order for the central deputation. The post of MbPT chairman was vacant after former chairman Sanjay Bhatia retired on July 31 and was appointed as Lokayukta of Maharashtra.
• Jalota, who is the first Goods and Services Tax (GST) commissioner of Maharashtra, is currently the additional chief secretary in the higher and technical education department of the state government. He first served as sales tax commissioner and then as GST commissioner from January 2015 to January 2020.

Malayalam writer Paul Zacharia selected for Ezhuthachan Puraskaram 2020
• Noted Malayalam writer, Paul Zacharia has been selected for this year’s Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, the Kerala government’s highest literary honour. Zacharia was chosen for his contribution to Malayalam literature during the past five decades.
• A five-member jury, headed by Kerala Sahitya Akademi President Vyshakhan, selected him for the award. ‘Salam America’, ‘Oridath, ‘Aarkkariyam’, ‘Bhaskara patelarum ente jeevithavum’ are among his various literary works. Zacharia also won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1979 and the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award in 2004.

RBI imposes monetary penalty on DCB Bank for rule violations
• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed monetary penalty on DCB Bank and Jio Payments Bank for various rule violations. The central bank has imposed a penalty of Rs 22 lakh on DCB Bank for non-compliance with certain provisions on marketing/distribution of mutual fund/insurance etc. The penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI under the provisions of Section 47A(1)(c) read with Section 46(4)(i) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
• In the case of Jio Payments Bank, the RBI imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore for non-compliance with RBI directions on timely submission of application in the case of reappointment of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer under Section 35B of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 (the Act).
ICICI Lombard, FreePaycard to offer health insurance solutions
• ICICI Lombard in partnership with Freepaycard, an online pre-paid card trading platform, has launched Group Safeguard Insurance. This strategic partnership will make the bite-sized health insurance solutions, designed specifically for Freepaycardmembers, available at its multi-category partner retail outlets. Freepaycard members can add these health solutions on the go while shopping for other essential goods or services.
• The plan will be offered to the members of Freepaycard, allowing them to receive an assured amount in case of any injury or hospitalization for treatment. The insurance offering is a customized hospitalization product that comes in three variants – Hospital Daily Cash Benefit, Death Benefit, and Special Vector-borne Disease-related Hospitalization Benefit.

8000 मेगावाट नवीकरणीय पार्क के साथ प्रकाशित होगी भारत-पाक सीमा
• राजस्थान में पाकिस्तान के साथ भारत के सीमावर्ती क्षेत्र जल्द ही अक्षय ऊर्जा से रोशन होंगे। राज्य सरकार जल्द ही अल्ट्रा मेगा नवीनीकरण ऊर्जा पावर पार्क स्थापित करने के लिए राष्ट्रीय ताप विद्युत निगम (NTPC) और भारत के सौर ऊर्जा निगम (SECI) के साथ एक समझौता ज्ञापन पर हस्ताक्षर करेगी।
• सीमा क्षेत्रों के पास स्थापित किया जाने वाला पार्क 8,000 मेगावाट (मेगावाट) क्षमता का होगा, जिसमें 4,310 मेगावाट पवन ऊर्जा शामिल होगी; सौर ऊर्जा के 3,760 मेगावाट और बायोमास से 120 मेगावाट बिजली मिलती है। वर्तमान में, राजस्थान की सौर उत्पादन क्षमता 4,883 मेगावाट है।

पश्चिम बंगाल में खोला जाएगा भारत का पहला 'टायर पार्क'
• पश्चिम बंगाल के कोलकाता में जल्द ही भारत का पहला "टायर पार्क" स्थापित होने जा रहा है, जहाँ स्क्रैप और खराब हो चुके पुर्जो से बनी कलाकृतियाँ को प्रदर्शित की जाएगा। इस टायर पार्क का शुभारंभ पश्चिम बंगाल परिवहन निगम करेगा।
• टायर पार्क, जो एस्प्लेनेड क्षेत्र में स्थापित किया जाएगा, इसमें एक छोटा कैफे होगा जहां लोग बैठकर आराम कर सकेंगे और टायर से बने शिल्प कौशल का आनंद उठा सकेंगे। किसी भी स्क्रैप सामग्री को अपशिष्ट के रूप में लेबल नहीं किया जाएगा, बल्कि इसका पुन: उपयोग किया जाएगा और इसे कला के रूप में परिवर्तित किया जाएगा। विभिन्न बस डिपो में कचरे के रूप में पड़े स्क्रैप टायर, WBTC की इन-हाउस टीम द्वारा फिर से बनाए गए और रंगीन आकृतियों में परिवर्तित किए गए हैं।
भारतीय रेलवे ने महिलाओं की सुरक्षा के लिए "मेरी सहेली" पहल का किया शुभारंभ
• भारतीय रेलवे ने ट्रेन यात्रा के दौरान महिला यात्रियों को सुरक्षा प्रदान करने के लिए “मेरी सहेली” नामक एक नई पहल की शुरूआत की है। मेरी सहेली पहल की शुरुआत भारतीय रेलवे के रेलवे सुरक्षा बल (Railway Protection Force) द्वारा की गई है।
• इस नई पहल के तहत महिला अधिकारी और कर्मचारियों की एक टीम बनाई गई है, जो महिला यात्रियों सहित ट्रेन के सभी डिब्बों में महिला यात्रियों की पहचान करने के लिए पट्रोलिंग करेगी।

• भारतीय मुक्केबाज अमित पंघाल, संजीत और आशीष कुमार ने हाल ही में फ्रांस के नांतेस में आयोजित एलेक्सिस वेलेंटाइन इंटरनेशनल बॉक्सिंग टूर्नामेंट में स्वर्ण पदक जीता है। यह लॉकडाउन के बाद पहला अंतर्राष्ट्रीय टूर्नामेंट आयोजन था, जिसमें भारतीय मुक्केबाजों ने हिस्सा लिया।

भारत ने सुखोई 30 MKI से ब्रह्मोस मिसाइल का किया सफल परीक्षण
• भारतीय वायु सेना (IAF) ने बंगाल की खाड़ी में सुखोई लड़ाकू विमान से ब्रह्मोस सुपरसोनिक क्रूज़ मिसाइल के हवा से लॉन्च किए जाने वाले संस्करण का सफल परीक्षण किया। इस विमान ने पंजाब के एक एयरबेस से उड़ान भरी और हवा में ईंधन भरने के बाद बंगाल की खाड़ी में पहुंचा।

पीवीजी मेनन को इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स सेक्टर स्किल काउंसिल ऑफ इंडिया के सीईओ के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया
• इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स सेक्टर स्किल काउंसिल ऑफ इंडिया (ESSCI) ने PVG मेनन को अपना मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी नियुक्त करने की घोषणा की। मेनन भारत में इलेक्ट्रॉनिक प्रणालियों के डिजाइन और विनिर्माण (ईएसडीएम) उद्योग के विकास से संबंधित रणनीतिक मुद्दों पर ईएसएससीआई के संचालन की देखरेख और इसकी संचालन परिषद के साथ मिलकर काम करने के लिए जिम्मेदार होंगे।
• ESSCI उद्योग, राष्ट्रीय कौशल विकास निगम और इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स और आईटी मंत्रालय के साथ काम करता है ताकि उद्योग को दोनों कुशल और फिर से कौशल सेवाएं प्रदान की जा सकें।
राजीव जलोटा मुंबई पोर्ट ट्रस्ट के नए अध्यक्ष बने
• भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा (आईएएस) अधिकारी, राजीव जलोटा को मुंबई पोर्ट ट्रस्ट (एमबीपीटी) के अध्यक्ष के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया है। केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल की नियुक्ति समिति ने केंद्रीय प्रतिनियुक्ति के लिए आदेश जारी किया। पूर्व अध्यक्ष संजय भाटिया के 31 जुलाई को सेवानिवृत्त होने और महाराष्ट्र के लोकायुक्त के रूप में नियुक्त किए जाने के बाद एमबीपीटी अध्यक्ष का पद खाली था।
• जलोटा, जो महाराष्ट्र का पहला माल और सेवा कर (GST) आयुक्त है, वर्तमान में राज्य सरकार के उच्च और तकनीकी शिक्षा विभाग में अतिरिक्त मुख्य सचिव है।
• उन्होंने पहले जनवरी 2015 से जनवरी 2020 तक बिक्री कर आयुक्त और फिर जीएसटी आयुक्त के रूप में कार्य किया।

मलयालम लेखक पॉल ज़ाचेरिया को दिया जाएगा साल 2020 का एज़ुथच पुरस्कार
• प्रसिद्ध मलयालम लेखक पॉल ज़ाचेरिया (Paul Zacharia) को इस वर्ष केरल सरकार के सर्वोच्च साहित्यिक सम्मान एज़ुथचन पुरस्कार(Ezhuthachan Puraskaram) के लिए चुना गया है। ज़ाचेरिया को मलयालम साहित्य में पिछले पांच दशकों के दौरान दिए उनके योगदान के लिए चुना गया है।
• केरल साहित्य अकादमी के अध्यक्ष विशाखान की अध्यक्षता में पांच सदस्यीय जूरी ने उन्हें पुरस्कार के लिए चुना। 'सलाम अमेरिका', 'ओरीदथ,' अरकरीयम', भास्कर पतेलारुम एन्ट जीविथवुम' उनकी विभिन्न साहित्यिक रचनाओं में से हैं। इसके अलावा ज़ाचेरिया को 1979 में केरल साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार और 2004 में केंद्र साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार भी मिला हुआ है।

RBI ने DCB बैंक पर नियमों का उल्लंघन करने पर लगाया जुर्माना
• भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक (RBI) ने DCB बैंक और Jio पेमेंट्स बैंक पर विभिन्न नियमों के उल्लंघन के लिए मौद्रिक जुर्माना लगाया है। केंद्रीय बैंक ने म्यूचुअल फंड/ बीमा आदि के विपणन/वितरण पर कुछ प्रावधानों का पालन नहीं करने पर DCB बैंक पर 22 लाख रुपये का जुर्माना लगाया है। यह जुर्माना आरबीआई द्वारा धारा 47A (1) (सी) बैंकिंग विनियमन अधिनियम, 1949 की धारा 46 (4) (i) के प्रावधानों के तहत निहित शक्तियों का प्रयोग करके लगाया गया है।
• Jio पेमेंट्स बैंक के मामले में, RBI ने बैंकिंग विनियमन अधिनियम 1949 की धारा 35B के तहत प्रबंध निदेशक और मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी की पुनर्नियुक्ति के मामले में समय पर आवेदन प्रस्तुत करने पर RBI निर्देशों का पालन नही करने पर 1 करोड़ रुपये का जुर्माना लगाया।
ICICI लोम्बार्ड ने स्वास्थ्य बीमा समाधान प्रदान करने के लिए FreePaycard के साथ की साझेदारी
• आईसीआईसीआई लोम्बार्ड ने ऑनलाइन प्री-पेड कार्ड ट्रेडिंग प्लेटफॉर्म Freepaycard के साथ मिलकर ग्रुप सेफगार्ड इंश्योरेंस लॉन्च किया है। यह साझेदारी, विशेष रूप से Freepaycardmembers को बाईट-साइज़ स्वास्थ्य बीमा समाधान उपलब्ध कराने के लिए डिज़ाइन किया गया है, जो अपने बहु-श्रेणी के साझेदार खुदरा दुकानों पर उपलब्ध होंगे। अन्य आवश्यक वस्तुओं या सेवाओं की खरीदारी करते समय फ्रीपेकार्ड सदस्य इन स्वास्थ्य समाधानों को जोड़ सकते हैं।
