Parekh takes over as Infosys CEO

●    Infosys CEO Salil Parekh took charge of the company on 2nd January.
●    He was in the chairmanship race in 2014 as well.
●    Parekh has 30 years of experience in the Indian IT outsourcing industry.
●    He has handled clients in North America and Europe too.

New chair for IPAB

●    Justice Manmohan Singh has been given additional charge as the chairman of the Chennai-headquartered Intellectual Property Appellate Board (IPAB).
●    He’ll take charge from January 1, 2018.
●    Before him the IPAB was without a regular chairman for 19 months.

Rajendran appointed as REAT chairman

●    Former High Court judge B. Rajendran has been appointed as the chairperson of the Real Estate Appellate Tribunal (REAT) for Tamil Nadu and Andaman & Nicobar
●    Salary of the chairperson is ₹80,000 per month.

Avian flu scare in city

●    One confirmed case of a chicken infected with the H5N1 virus was reported in Bengaluru. 
●    Bird flu was last reported in Bangalore in October 2012.
●    All chicken stalls in the area were immediately shut down to prevent spread of the virus.

Taking Karnataka tourism to the world

●    Tourism Department of Karnataka is going to hold ‘Karnataka International Travel Expo’ (KITE) from February 28 to March 2. 
●    It is being said to be the “largest B2B travel event in India”.
●    It aims to provide platform for over 400 registered buyers and media representatives from more than 25 countries.

Trial of ‘panic button’ on mobiles to begin on Republic Day from U.P.

●    ‘panic button’ mobile phone feature will start from Uttar Pradesh on January 26.
●    Union Minister Maneka Gandhi announced it.
●    In April, 2016, the Department of Telecommunications made it mandatory for mobile companies to  give panic buttons in mobile phones by January 2017.

PM pays tribute to First Female Teacher of Country 

●    Savitribai Phule, was born on January 3, 1881. 
●    She is known as the country’s first woman teacher.
●    She was also a poet.
●    She is known for laying the foundation stone of education opportunities for women in India. 

Water Urbanism Project: IIT Kharagpur Joins Hand With US Universities

●    IIT Kharagpur joined hand with 3 universities of the United State for water urbanism project at Varanasi. 
●    Water urbanism is a geo-hydrological exploratory study of Varanasi.
●    The Water urbanism project is part of the multi-focal point of research under the Science and Heritage Initiative.

Cabinet approves MoU between India and Israel on Cooperation in the Oil and Gas Sector

●    The Union Cabinet approved the MoU between India and Israel on cooperation in the Oil and Gas Sector.
●    The MoU is expected to boost India - Israel ties in the energy sector. 
●    The cooperation under the agreement will facilitate promotion of investments in each other's countries, technology transfer, R&D, conducting joint studies, capacity building of human resources and collaboration in the area of Start-ups.

●    Australian scientists have developed the world’s first ‘speed breeding’ technique.
●    It can boost the production of the crop by up to three times. 
●    Earlier NASA experimented such thing using the continuous light on wheat.

China to become world's first country to launch a lunar probe on far side of moon

●    China's space program is going to land a probe on the darker side of the moon for the first time.
●    In December 2016, China announced its plans to launch a lunar probe in 2018.
●    With this single move, China will outdo the historical achievements of the US and the USSR.

N. Korea's Chilling New Weapon: Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Made Of Ice

●    Glimpse of the country's latest weapon ICBM in frozen form was seen in North Koreans ice sculpture festival.
●    Weapon seen in ice sculpture is a Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile, which North Korea tested it in November.
●    It is capable of attacking the US mainland.
